We also brought our service dog on this trip and the staff were great about it. We didn't have any issues. The service was excellent from start to finish, and our room was incredibly comfortable. One thing we appreciated this time was being able to use the outdoor grills. Since we weren't staying in a villa, we called the front desk and asked if they could send us plates and silverware, and they were happy to accommodate us. A couple of helpful things to know: there are no microwaves in the guest rooms, but there is a communal microwave located in the laundry room. The hotel also provides complimentary laundry detergent, and there are two washers and two dryers available for guests, which was a nice convenience. The pool and hot tubs were clean, relaxing, and a great place to unwind after a day of exploring. We also had breakfast at the restaurant every morning, and the highlight was seeing Roxane again. She remembered us from our previous stay and greeted us with a warm smile each morning. Her kindness and genuine hospitality made us feel so welcome and was the perfect way to start each day. Overall, another fantastic stay with exceptional service. We look forward to coming back again!

Towels are never restocked unless you're first in the morning to the towel machines. I payed for two rooms and my second room wasn't even ready until 11pm at night even though I was told it would be ready by 4pm. We were compensated towel charges, which would be nice if we could even get our hands on some towels. One last thing, my first room had multiple bugs throughout the room, on towels, and in the bathtub. The staff have been very kind and helpful in solving these issues although these issues should've never occurred for the price of this hotel.

We stayed in the palace Tower again this year and noticed quite an improvement in the rooms since last year. They were remodeled and were definitely much nicer. We really enjoy the pools, especially the one closest to the Palace tower. The only disappointing thing this year was that the bigger slide wasn't open the entire week. We were only there Sunday through Wednesday and found out the slide wasn't open Monday through Wednesday. Last year it was open every day. My nephew was definitely disappointed as the slides in the pools are the reason that he likes this resort and why we come. We also prefer the smaler pool. There are several restaurants on the property but as is usual for resorts the prices are exorbitant, especially for what you get. Most every meal we ate off the property. Drinks were very expensive at the pools too. Food and drinks being more reasonable and the slide at the smaller pool being open the entire week would have brought this rating very close to five stars. It's definitely a nice resort but some changes would make it even better. I think next year we're going to try somewhere else.

While the pre-trip communication was a bit challenging due to time zone differences and delays (or lack) in responses, everything ran smoothly from the moment we arrived through the end of the trip. As the event planner for our President's Club trips, I stayed in a staff room and had no complaints! My room was in a prime location next to the pool, close to Ulu, a washer/dryer, the front desk, the beach garden and the amphitheater. While the staff on-site mentioned everything is within a 10-minute walk, I would challenge that as it really depends on your walking pace and tolerance for heat/humidity. Though there are plenty of [pricey] dining options to choose from on-site, it was frustrating fighting for breakfast, as there is only one designated breakfast spot-- Ulu. It didn't matter that I was a party of one or could be a party of 10, the wait times were horrendous no matter the size of your party. BE WARNED: service operates on island time, so either ask for the check upon getting your food or be patient and enjoy the waves and where you're at in the world. Note: There is a trading co in the front of the resort that is a full coffee bar and offers pastries, grab-and-go options, souvenirs, and various knick-knacks you may need. AMENITIES: There are 8 outdoor pools, one being a kids only pool (Keiki Pool) and one being a pond (King's Pond) where you can snorkel for free. If you don't have time to snorkel off-site, this a fun sample of what the Big Island has to offer. There's also a complimentary washer and dryer, complete with detergent and dryer sheets-- perfect for an extended stay and the many pool/beach days. If you ever need anything, your room may already have it. Check the drawer near the coffee machine. I forgot my phone charger at home and found an all-in-one charger in the drawer (at a cost-- $25). Planning these events can be stressful, especially when you're responsible for EVERYTHING. The events team and the front desk staff went above and beyond -- they even extended my check-out time to 8 PM, which was a huge help for me to finish packing my company's marketing materials and shipping them off.

Being that we stay at least 2-3 days out of every month in some sort of hotel, resort, or airBnB, why is Marriott having such a hard time and none of the other places? Last, I see why we are moving toward automated front desks. Either their policies make the desk the way they are, or there is nobody on the island that can do their jobs. Folks parking in one tandem spot. In essence taking up two spaces. Distance wise - it's a1/2 hour drive from and return to KOA. In previous trips we stayed in Kailua-Kona. Carla at the front desk brings fantastic European warmth, fun and personality. She makes returning guests feel genuinely recognized and welcomed, which means a great deal after more than 20 visits. Last but certainly not least, Guest Service Manager David Dumyahn is the person every hotel should pray to have. He makes sure guests feel completely taken care of and treats exceptional service as a must, not a favor. I have always loved this location and visited over 20 times , especially the calm and protected beach, which is perfect for families with small children. Most concerning was a basic hygiene failure we witnessed directly: a housekeeper handled the trash bin and then, without changing gloves or washing hands, proceeded to handle and place our fresh towels. That is not a lapse in polish -- it is cross-contamination, and at a property of this caliber it points to a gap in training and supervision that guest-facing warmth cannot paper over. We've shared the details with hotel management and trust the Fairmont brand team will want to look into this. One expects a Fairmont to get the fundamentals right. This one did not.

Their açaí bowl with house made granola is to die for. Most memorable was making friends with Viola, Hawaii's most valuable Tutu (grandma) at Halani. I recommend this place if you're planning to stay here and not leave and drive around. The long walk gets old. And the little tram they have is intermittently running and very slow. You have to check in at the ocean tower, very far from the parking lot. They do not allow you to use their trollies for your bags, you must have a bellhop. They deliver the stuff to your room which can take a few hours. They also are a cashless facility so if you are trying to break a $20 and tip someone, it's hard to find change. It makes things really inconvenient. There's a few veggie options at the restaurants on site. Views are beautiful. Lots of different pools and places for kids to play. They have wildlife that swims in and around the resort. The room itself was medium. Nothing fancy. It includes shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. They clean the room every day or every other day. The pool towels are distributed at a vending machine and it's a pain in the butt swapping them out all the time. Sometimes the vending machines are empty and you have to hike it to another building to get towels. Overall, the resort is stunning. So much to see and do. So if you don't want to leave the resort , this place isn't bad. Just know there is a TON of walking. And if you lose your key, you'll wait 45 minutes in line to get another one. Oh and parking was about $50/night.

She didn't inform me if breakfast was included, and I had assumed it wasn't since i couldn't find that detail on my reservation. Normally, they tell us what is and isn't included with our stay. I should've asked, but it slipped my mind, and the days got busy. She was well-versed with how much the resort fees and parking were though. There could be more signs directing us to certain parts of the resort. To get to one of the pools, one of the staff told us to go to the end of the hall, go downstairs to the laundry room (first floor) and exit the door. Like why is there a secret passage way to the pools lol. Also some paths took us to dead ends. A "do not enter" sign would've been helpful. The lagoon is the place to be, and they don't make it easy to get there from anywhere on the resort. They do give a resort map. If you can find your bearings, the map helps. Ice machines are not easy to find. We called the front desk, and they didn't know. Ended up getting info from Housekeeping. Turns out, the ice machine was far from our room. There are no microwaves in the rooms, but apparently there is a microwave somewhere in the tower. Didn't bother looking for it. You can wait up to 30 minutes for the tram at the Ocean Tower. Good stuff: The room we had was on the 6th floor and wonderful. It was a huge room with a sofa and a king bed. We had a view of the ocean that was just spectacular! There were a little bistro table and 2 lawn chairs on the balcony. It was a perfect setting to watch the sunset and watch the coconut trees sway with the wind. The lagoon is so fun! You can rent water equipment like stand-up paddle boards, water bikes, amongst others. If you have goggles, you will see turtles, manta rays, and fish from the ocean. It's so awesome! We saw a dolphin pool on the way to the lagoon. I think you can do a dolphin swim, which is kinda cool to have at a resort. I just hope they're treating the dolphins well. There's beautiful scenery everywhere you go and well-paved paths for walking. Food and drinks on the resort are better than your average hotel restaurants. There's also happy hour at the grill near the lagoon. Coffee bar is good too and has some food offerings. I wish they stayed open longer, like until dinner time. With the resort being so big, we definitely got our steps in. Most of the time, we skipped waiting for the tram. The walk to the main lobby really isn't that bad, and I'm not an active person. Tips: Drop off your luggage at the main lobby before parking (if you have a car). Saves you from lugging your baggage from the parking lot to the the tower or the tram stop. Likewise, call ahead for a bellhop to pickup your luggage when you check out for the same reason. If you have a car, at checkout, keep a room key so you can exit the parking lot one last time. They have a key box to drop your key in at the parking lot exit. If you want cheaper food options near the resort, there's Lava Lava and the Queens Marketplace. Lots of different options there including the market, where you can buy groceries as well as hot food. Spend as much time at the resort and ditch renting a car. If you want to join tours, you can book the ones that pick you up at the hotel. You can get discounts booking them with the hotel concierge too. They have a shuttle (not free, but cheap) that takes you to the Queens Marketplace and Lava Lava.

BAD COCKROACH INFESTATION!!…read more We stayed here for 5 nights in Aug 2025 and unfortunately our experience was ruined by a persistent roach infestation inside our unit. On the very first night, we killed six live roaches indoors. Over the next two days, we encountered several more inside--including one crawling near my foot while we were eating at the kitchen table--which terrified my children. We also saw many on the patio, along with ants along the wall near the sliding doors. We were unable to use the patio or keep the doors open for fresh air. Management sent pest control to spray, but the cockroach sightings continued. They offered less than 10% partial compensation, but it didn't make up for losing the ability to relax or feel comfortable in the unit for the majority of our stay. We understand Hawaii has tropical insects, but this went far beyond the occasional sighting. This was a recurring and disruptive issue that affected our enjoyment of the vacation. Management said it's "normal" for Hawaii. Well, I've been coming to Hawaii for decades and I can confidently say this is a bad infestation because I have never before experienced anything like this. Especially at resort (supposedly) of this caliber and price point. And management's response was slow and unsatisfactory. I do NOT recommend this resort. Proceed with caution--especially if considering a ground-level unit.

They also provided banana bread, Nutella, and shortbread cookies on the table of the hotel room. The view was AMAZING and the ocean is perfect to swim in at any time of day. Many free activities offered daily. There are some nice restaurants on site- serves breakfast and dinner (at the Manta). I hope to get to come back someday.

He is kept alone in a small cage tucked under a staircase, away from where guests walk, open to the ocean breeze. There was a bare perch and nothing else in the cage. No toys, no companion bird, nothing to do. The cage looked too small for him to fly or fully spread his wings. He did not move the entire time I stood there and did not react when I came up to him. I understand a sanctuary on this island has offered to take him and that a public petition has been circulating since 2024. A resort of this caliber can do better, and I hope it will.
