Please be careful with this weight loss company. I had ONE single consultation and they tried to charge me $1,200 for a program that I never even started. I paid most of it to get them to stop harassing me but was advised it was a scam and reached out to them personally to get them to remove the remaining balance off of my account considering I have only had one appointment and it was supposed to be a free consultation? Now they are threatening to send me to collections for almost $400. I just reached out to an attorney and they are assisting me with this, but I think others should be aware that this company is a complete scam. read more

Dr Emma Patterson is the one of the best. She's easy to work with. I had the LapBand surgery! It's the easiest surgery to lose weight ever. I had my surgery in 2008. I weighed 247lbs when I started. I'm 3 months post operative for gastric sleeve and I'm just thrilled with my results and my experience with Dr. Patterson and her practice. Dr. Patterson is very thorough. She is a straight shooter and doesn't mence words or sugar coat the process of pre and post operative. She provides every tool possible to help her patients. I had a wonderful experience at the surgical center and felt like I got the best care. Dr. Patterson is a wonderful doctor and has given me exceptional care. I had to pay out of pocket for the entire procedure and I think it's the best decision I've ever made. I had the absolute best possible recovery and I attribute that to Dr. Patterson's level of skill in this procedure. When I contacted OWLS, I was asked to complete an online survey to collect information. When I visited it, it was not functional. Upon follow up, I was told "it's under maintenance" and to provide answer to series of questions. Not sure why we couldn't have started that way, as I worked with the same person both times within 24 hrs. When I submitted the information, I was told to be patient, as it takes 2 to 6 weeks to review my information. Like a good patient, I waited. After no response going into the 5th week, I checked to see if I should expect an answer soon. Within 30 minutes I was notified that they are not taking any patients for follow up care (I had my original surgery 16 years ago) or for revisions. Did it really take 5+ weeks and then an email from me to learn this? I'm sure the doctors and many of the staff are great, but the intake and review process leaves much to be desired. read more

Wow. Just wow. Is what I have to say about my experience with Emma Patterson, she is every bit as nutty as the other bad reviews describe. Here's the short of it: My husband and I came in for a consultation for a revision of a damaging lap band to sleeve. I did very well with the band, I went from 230 lbs to 145 lbs and maintained my goal weight for about 10 years, but then I had complications that are very common with having the band for so long and it had to be removed. Before the visit began, I explained that I have a documented speech disability with some dyslexia, so my communication is sometimes difficult to understand, and that my husband was there to translate or explain any questions I couldn't explain myself. I asked Emma if I could tell her a quick summary of events of success and band removal, but she said no, she wanted to ask me questions. Her questions were all over the place, asking specific dates and times with medical history questions mixed in. I answered the best I could, and said that I could look up the dates she wanted in my folder I had with me because I'm bad at memorizing dates. She wouldn't let me. She apparently got frustrated, and I took the gap in her speech to quickly tell her the short summary I offered to tell at the very beginning of the conversation. Emma said, well that's the kind of straight forward information that I've been trying to get from you! I replied that I had asked to do so from the start but that she wouldn't let me. She then stood up and started shouting at me, saying that she wouldn't operate on me because she didn't like the way I communicated. I asked, just to be sure, it's my method of communication? She said yes. I clarified, so, basically you're saying that you won't operate on me because of my previously disclosed communication disability that I told you about before we started talking? Oh. My. Gosh. I have never seen a healthcare "professional" have a full blown childish tantrum before. It was rather impressive. She threw down her pen, and literally screamed in my face, saying how dare I say that to her. She also said that there was nothing wrong with my x-ray (misdiagnosis, because 3 other docs had verified the problem), and stomped out of the room. I was shocked and started crying, and called out after her, "Hey, what about do no harm? You are so mean!" She stopped and yelled, "Get over it. I won't even charge you for this visit" and stomped away. My husband and I just stood there staring at each other, saying, Um, did that just happen? Strangest Dr. visit ever. She charged us for the visit anyway. I did not sign a HIPAA Information Release letter for that visit, but she violated the privacy law by putting a medical record on the public electronic health information saying that I was a difficult patient and not fit for surgery. Nice. So I think that showdown breaks 3 laws in less than 15 minutes: discrimination based on disability, HIPAA violation, and falsification of medical records, not to mention the misdiagnosis. I had the lap band, that I have had nothing but trouble with, I have asked several times for her to start the process of having it removed and have been completely forgotten after each of the visits I drove 300 miles one way for plus a large co/pay because it's out of area. She has made snide remarks during visits on more then one occasion. I'm not happy with the service I have received and am in the process of finding another doctor to remove my lap band.. read more

One of the nicest doctors I have ever met. I found Dr Patterson caring, thorough and very easy to work with. I was frightened before my appointment, due to one reviewer, but my fears were quickly calmed. She is extremely knowledgeable and kind and I chose her over all of the other bariatric surgeons in the area. The only issue I had was that some of her office staff aren't as personable as they could be, but nothing that would prevent me from recommending Dr Patterson to anyone. Based on my experience, my sister is now going to see her, too. She also did a good friend of mines surgery and has nothing but good things to say about Dr Patterson. I received a reply from Oregon Weight Loss on my review of Dr. Patterson. I stand by all of my review. It was stated that Dr. Patterson didn't think yogurt was "stupid", she eats it all the time. What I originally said was basically, we got there early and I was hungry. I chose the lesser of all evils at the cafeteria and had a yogurt parfait. This is what I told Dr. Patterson. That because of my gastro paresis, yogurt sometimes gives me an upset stomach. She said, "well that was stupid". I do realize that many procedures must be done. But on both endoscopies, Dr. Patterson, never ONCE acknowledged me, the patient in the procedure room. NOT ONCE!! She spoke ONLY TO HER STAFF!!!!!!!!!!!! I felt like a piece of meat on a guerny! In my opinion, I did EVERYTHING right, and more! I paid almost $3000.00 for Positive Changes pre-surgery so I could be prepared for a new way of eating. I completely stopped going thru drive thrus. I completely stopped all soda. I drank NOTHING but water or protein drinks. I paid lots of money on a gym membership and personal trainer so I could prepare myself for a new way of exercising. I lost all the weight she wante and stuck to her diet. But in January, she had the unmitigated gall to sit there and call me a binger. She started to say that her exercise doctor whom I only met once on the FIRST VISIT, said something, then quickly changed to "oh, you're going to the gym". Clearly, she and her staff had no idea what they were talking about! I did disclose up front that not only did I have gastro paresis, but I had bipolar disorder, anxiety disorder and borderline personality disorder. Now if Dr. Patterson thought that too great a challenge, the time to tell me she would not do my surgery would have been the first visit. I am a very sensitive and intuitive person, and I did not act on my intuition the first visit, nor did my husband because we had already paid her $500.00 just for the first visit. We should have left, and gone to the doctor next door. My last visit with her, was the most unprofessional visit with a doctor in my life!!!! Not only did she accuse me of something that was completely wrong, and try to tell me that on my first visit her physical fitness doctor..."oh you're going to the gym", then proceeded to tell me in a rather snotty tone, "I'm not doing your surgery". I asked why, got no response other than, she closed my file as I sat there, mouth agape, stood up and walked out without a word. No one from her office can ever convince me that Dr. Patterson is nothing but an arrogant, self centered bitch who cares nothing for her patients, only that she gets her face on magazine covers, and makes lots of money. My advice is and always will be, go the weight loss center next door, or somewhere else, unless of course, you like being treated like crap. read more

I work in the healthcare field myself, so when searching out a surgeon I look for the best person for the job at hand. And I'm convinced that Dr. Patterson is that person. I was not looking for someone to hold my hand, and "be nice to me" and tell me what I want to hear...because that is NOT her job or responsibility. Today was my 3 week post VSG procedure visit. I really cant say enough great things about the whole process and this Provider with her amazing office and clinical support staff. Its been a really tough 3 weeks , but that was due to my own body and how I responded to the surgery. Every day gets a little easier. I will note that a week ago I was having some eating & digestive issues and called the office. They got a message to Dr. Patterson who was in surgery at the time. She made time to personally call me between procedures so I didn't have to wait for a response to go over the issues and help to calm my worries. Then today's visit was nothing less then I would have expected. I met with several of the clinical support staff then with Dr. Patterson again herself. Again 100% satisfied with her ! I feel like I got the best care available in the PNW and most likely the US. I have met with several other bariatric Dr's previously in other states and I feel DR. Patterson and her team were the ONES! I have already referred several people over to the office. The decision to use Dr. Patterson for my surgery was one of my best life changing decisions ever.
