The food took a bit to come out but I know that's because they make the pizzas from scratch so I didn't mind. The mozzarella sticks came out first and were unfortunately disappointing. They tasted frozen, and I suspect they are because when I went here for the first time I tried to order them and the guy taking my order said they "haven't gotten any in in a while" which told me they don't make them in-house. They had a weird aftertaste and the breading was too dry. I had the garlic knots last time and they were great, so I think I would stick with those in the future. The pizzas were fantastic! They were piping hot and we had to let them cool before we could eat. The sauce to toppings to cheese to dough ratio was spot on and the pizzas were cooked well. The dough wasn't chewy or crunchy, it was perfect. The pizzas alone are five stars! One thing to note: you do grab your own plates and napkins, and you bus your dishes when you're done. An older couple left their dishes on the table and walked past the bussing station and tbh I'm holding a grudge against those two strangers because of it. Just clean up after yourself, it's not that hard! The only thing that I really didn't like was the excessive use of AI art. The advertisements and menu both had AI art using the typical AI style, not even trying to hide it. In an age where marketing materials can be created by even the most inexperienced people easily and for free on Canva, Adobe Express, and other similar sites, there is simply no excuse for using environment-destroying AI slop in a business setting. It was incredibly disappointing to see such an otherwise nice small business use AI when there are so many artists in the area who would jump at a chance to create art for them. I know I'll get a reply from the owner on this, and I just want to reiterate for those who actually read this: there is *no* excuse for using AI art. These people clearly know pizza. They make a great pie and have a lot of unique flavor combinations! Kyle offered me a glass of water while I waited and then told me about their happy hour which goes from 2 to 5 and four of the pizzas are discounted and the beer on top is also reduced in price. Briefly stepped out into the parking lot for a minute and a stranger stopped and offered me a beautiful single rose. It was a lovely surprise and made my crazy morning easier. This is superbly done classic Chicago style - biscuit/cracker crust, perfect proportions of cheese to crust to sauce. Crust has an after-bake brush of butter I haven't seen in the Chicago or WI (my area) area before but it really worked - added a lot of flavor to the crust. Got the sausage/pepperoni, added onions and the flavors were spot-on. Tomato sauce was strong but perfectly balanced (perhaps could have used just a bit more sweetness to be what I've had previously with the classics). This is a welcome gem to the bloated tired west-coast pizza scene in Eugene!! Weekends and evenings are hectic, the place is packed and our wait was around 35 minutes. On weekday midday we were seated and served right away. Servers are very accomodating and attentive. Our food came out relatively fast both times, within 15-20 mins of ordering for multiple dishes. The basic marinara pizza is surpsingly very good and is our favorite so far. The thin crust is cooked perfectly with a satisfying bite, and the marinara with garlic/oregano/olio verde/pecorino was simple yet delicious. All pizzas come with chili flakes and parmesean to add to your liking. The pepperoni and Il Tuffo were great too. The menu has a variety of pizzas with yummy sounding topping combos that keep you wanting to come back and try them all. The location is clean and lively, with a lot of varied seating indoor and out. And, it's tradition to grab icecream next door, which is a good use of time during longer waits. For the price and the quality, the pizzas are definitely worth coming for.

I've spent months/years as a waiter so I understand the frustration of working hard to please a table only to get a 10% tip. As a now-former waiter, I try to tip generously. What I don't understand or expect is an automatic gratuity for small group, especially when I am a solo diner. Just me. Party of one. With minimal indication on the bill as to the added tip. After my last time at H-N-I-P I got the check, added on my own tip and paid. Then I pondered on the total. It seems funky -- why is it more than just the pizza and salad I ate... there's no tax in Oregon... Whuh? I look more closely at the bill and see that they already added on a tip...? I guess they just got a nearly 50% tip from me. Which might be the last tip because it's seriously irritating. In time I'll probably have a pizza craving that only they can fill, and go back.
