And he was super awesome enough to tell me about all the flavors and when I specifically asked for the new blackberry lime, he said they actually finished canning it yesterday, which is what I came here for! I had also planned to pick up some stuff for my niece since she lives quite a bit of ways from your location. This was the last stop on my whirlwind tour of most of the distilleries on Distillery Row (minus…read morethe 2 off to the west, and the 2 off to the south). Their normal price is $8 to taste 5 things (fully comped with the passport), so the passport is a particularly good deal here. However, it was another of the annoying ones where I really wanted to taste more than 5 things, as they had a decent selection that all looked interesting. I started off with two of their aquavits - the aged version of their traditional one, which I thought was good but not amazing, and a more uniquely Portland-y one, "ole bjorkevoll", which was absolutely the best aquavit I've had, just ridiculously smooth and ridiculously flavorful (really wish I could've tried the aged version of that second one, but they were temporarily out, unfortunately). I then tried two of their pepper vodkas - a habanero vodka that only had the slightest hint of pepper, more sweet than anything (I got hints of honey and vanilla), and a hotter one that did mostly taste like vodka and hot pepper, but wasn't overpoweringly hot. I thought both of these were, likewise, good but not amazing. Finally, I tried their coffee vodka, which was absolutely fantastic - really tasted properly like drinking 80-proof coffee. Gorgeously smooth, without the sweetness - just this and a cream liqueur with an ice cube, would make a simple but fantastic "cocktail". One of the best coffee spirits I've had, and I've had some pretty good ones. I also had to try one of the mini-cocktails here, because I couldn't possibly imagine aquavit and ginger beer being that great together, but they promised it was, and their aquavit was so good. Turns out yeah, it's pretty fantastic. The place was pretty small, so if you came at a busier time, it'd probably be unpleasantly cramped. It's a bit hidden, though, so I don't know how frequently it gets that busy - I was there on a Saturday late afternoon, and it was fairly quiet, kinda relaxing, really. Got to chat with the owner a bit, too, so that was neat. Note to self: if I'm ever back in Portland, this is one of the ones I have to come back to, so I can try the rest of the stuff I couldn't try this time.

As opposed to other tasting rooms we have visited where the bartenders describe the spirits, we felt that portion was missing from our visit to Rolling River. There were 2 other parties there while we were there so it's possible that it was difficult for 1 bartender to manage and engage 3 different tastings. Overall, good spirits and worth stopping in! It can be a little difficult to find, but look for the signs to follow the hallway to the tasting room.

TBH, I'm more interested in tasting their offerings than in seeing big metal vats so not a huge deal, LOL Their spirits are all well-made. The star of the show for me was the maple whisky. I wasn't expecting over 100 proof. Very palatable and the maple compliments the whisky instead of overpowering it. Definitely make a stop here if you're a whisky fan - it's well worth your time!

I tasted The Unipiper batch from bottle 111, a Straight Rye Whiskey that had been aged 7 years. I love all of the information this distillery shares with customers as it makes the buying experience feel all the more special. I really appreciated the time and energy the sales folks put into explaining the complexities and flavor profiles of this batch, and also throwing one heck of a launch party as well. This is the first time i've heard of them, and what drew me in was that they run a cafe while patrons shop for syrup. Matcha ube latte is definitely available at this store. They got all types of syrups here for cocktails, mocktails, lattes, and so much more. This is a step above Torani. Although they are available on Amazon, I'd rather support the shop directly, and thankfully I was in the area. I grabbed a couple of flavors and my boyfriend bought himself a soda using the syrups that were available. I sampled a few flavors as well with just seltzer water. Coffee was offered too, so the possibilities are endless. The store clerk that day was friendly! It was a fruitful purchase and perhaps I will come by again for more fun flavors!

Y'know, there is so much that made us all chip in. It includes the following..., but the real reason is that JJ really put's himself out there. He wants to know you and let you know him. He has built a huge community of us who love coffee for sure, but also who love JJ! Those other reasons include: -The best espresso from Spella - Drinks like his spin on the shakeratto that are as much performance art as drink - Free, free, free! Biscuits for all the good doggos and hot cocoa for the kiddos (with shaved chocolate, marshmallows, and handmade whipped cream on top!) - hand made gelato of his own making including flavors like maple, scorpion pepper, and so much more! - awesome smoothies and granita - the best chai in Portland (or anywhere that isn't India - such wonderful fellow customers, an international and eclectic lot, from car mechanics to software engineers. So we waited in line and noticed he has several regulars. He knew their names , orders, etc. and he held genuine conversations with each of them. When it was our turn, he was the most nicest barista- he gave us undivided attention, gave my dog 2 treats, acknowledged my son and took the time to explain to me what a Shakerato was (all of this with a smile! ) The drink was amazing and he even let us try our drinks before we walked away. I've been to numerous coffee places in my life and this was the best experience by far! One warning- you will have to wait in line for a bit. ( it's worth the wait though! )So if you're in a hurry, then maybe this wouldn't be your vibe. But for a relaxed weekend, this was great! We can't wait to return again on our next trip!
