Summary: Forgettable but acceptable Chinese food. I wondered what I would put down here for my review because outside of the attentive customer service, my visit Oriental Express was entirely forgettable. There was nothing that stood out about the food that would elevate it to a "must visit" kind of restaurant for me. It's not that it was bad at all...it was just...there. It's basically what you would call passable Chinese food and something that if you picked it up you'd have a decent meal but you wouldn't be calling it the best you've ever eaten. I had the General chicken and it wasn't that spicy and the flavor was a little bit bland. They did provide more than ample amounts of rice to go with the meat. Bottom Line: It's highly OK food, probably the definition of 3 star Chinese food. You don't need to avoid it by any means, but it's not really the place to go for something that you remember the next day. read more

MY FAVORITE PLACE TO GET FRIED RICE! I literally eat this place once a week. Prices are super low and it is great, quality food. I always get their chicken fried rice & add in vegetables (bc I'm a veggie girl) and I haven't found a place locally any better! There are good and bad things about this place. Had quite a few items. Service was great. Everyone was nice and the food came out very quickly. I ordered their honey chicken? It was decent. Had a nice crisp to it. Too much sauce made it goopy. Nothing mind blowing. Their steamed rice is decent. I didn't try enough of their Chinese food to get a good idea. But this was overall just ok. I also had their fried dumplings. The meat in the dumplings wasn't flavorful. It tasted like frozen Korean dumplings(mandoo) Their katsudon wasn't a don at all, which wasn't really a problem. It was tonkatsu with rice on the side and some fried vegetable tenpura. The breading was.... different. Doesn't have the snap and crisp of tonkatsu that I'm used to. But it was all in all ok. The tenpura was actually pretty good. Wife got pad thai. She has had it a lot in Thailand. Of the pad thais she's had in America so far, she says it's the best. All in all, she said the flavor was just ok though. Now the biggest point... that would be the easiest to fix. I ordered their tuna and salmon nigiri. There were really good and really bad things about this. First, the good. This is the freshest fish you'll have in Jonesboro. Maybe all of Arkansas... I'm not sure. If you like sashimi, then I'd highly recommend that. The tuna was a little on the thin side, and it wasn't fatty tuna. However, being that it's nigiri, most of the flavor normally comes from the rice. This rice was completely flavorless. It definitely needs vinegar...maybe a little more sugar too. Just to give you an idea, I've had sushi at Tsukiji Fish Market in Japan. While the fish impressed me, the rice was so lackluster that I felt I wasted my money getting sushi here. If they just added flavor to the rice, this would definitely become my go to place for sushi. Some small adjustments to the food would really take this restaurant up a few notches. A little less sauce on the Chinese food. Maybe gyoza instead of flavorless mandoo. Different breading on the tonkatsu. And more flavor in the rice of their nigiri. If these changes were made, I'd probably give this restaurant 4 or 5 stars instead. read more

This place is good. It feeds my Chinese and Japanese food fix but I don't love it. It's never had a stand out dish and is often a fall back when other things are closed. If this is the type of food you want, you can't go wrong here, it's just not as amazing as I'd hoped. read more

Everything was good about this place except the food. Not to say that the food wasnt good, it was just average- your average Chinese drive in because it was close and down the road. They had facy decor, as Amber stated, and the box made it look fancier than what kind of food was actually in the box. Prices are decent I thought, they matched the quality. Very rude when I asked question the guy act as if I was bothering him. Didn't ask if I'd like a drink or nothing. Coming form out of town I don't expect people to care about that. Been here twice and both times, really enjoyed it. Food is fresh and good. Only complaint is the first visit, the food was a little on the oily side. I want to try the sushi so bad! Oriental Express is a wonderful little sit down restaurant with a huge variety of dishes to choose from. The staff is courteous overall and the food is consistent when dining in. We haven't had good experiences with take out, however. The food quality isn't as good, is a bit slow, and we have had encountered some rude folks at the drive through pickup for take out. I definitely recommend eating inside the restaurant and enjoying the "full experience" rather than dealing with take out. Their curries are very good, as are all of their side dishes and appetizers. read more

The food here is amazing! It's a completely different taste than the other restaurants in Jonesboro, more like P.F Changs than quickie takeout. However, you should definitely go inside and eat, the quantity and quality of the takeout is less than that of dining in. Of course, the staff is still new so the quality of service fluctuates from stellar to lackadaisical. The entrees always come out warm but the egg rolls and other premade appetizers are notorious already for being unpredictable on temperature. Overall, the pricing is reasonable and mostly delicious! Me and my son love this place. If it was a buffet I would probably eat there everyday! We get several different plates to make our own buffet with different items. Noodles, beef broccoli, chicken Lo mein, won Tongs so it adds up to a pretty big ticket. But it's worth it! And we come once a month. this place is a rip off! just spent $31.64 for 2 dinners...s&s chicken and shrimp, beef fried rice, and crab rangoon, 2 egg rolls. the egg rolls had little to nothing in it! the crab rangoon was nasty. called the owner to complain about the portion size, nasty taste ..was told by the owner...if not enough for your size lady you need to order more food! will not refund you money unless you bring back food! this is policy...she is the owner and can make any policy she wants... telling me i am the only person that has ever complain about food and portion size!!! in seven years she has been open! what a lie!!! I was told by a friend that lives about 2 blocks away that they have great food and fast delivery. I wanted to try it out since they spoke so highly of it, but I will never eat there and I'll tell everyone I can not to because when I called they said they wouldn't deliver to my house. I live inside Jonesboro city limits, two blocks away from someone they do deliver to, yet they won't deliver to us. That's horrible service, don't open a restaurant if you can't serve everyone in the town you want to do business in! read more

Tried twice. First time was sushi and nothing to brag about, did not even want to finish it. Second time tried sesame chicken and red curry chicken. Sad to say half of sesame chicken went into the garbage and the thai chicken was okay. Again nothing to brag about. $40 for take home should be good. Will not try number 3. read more
