My reflexology this morning was a 3, but I decided on a 2 star based on the interaction when I arrived: I had searched Yelp for reflexology and decided to give a call because it is just a few miles away, and the "early bird" special Mon-Thursday 10-2 looked like a good thing for my first time in. I wasn't sure if I needed an appointment so I called at 10am this morning (Thursday) and asked if I could get a one hour foot massage right away? Nice woman who answered the phone said yes and to come on in...I was pretty happy. I arrived less than 15 minutes later and said that I had just called and what I would like. The man at the desk asked if I was going to use cash or credit, I said cash and asked about the early bird discount; he said there was no discount. It's not about the $4.50 off, but since it is prominently advertised on the website - moving banner ad on top AND the "specials" tab - is it really just a way of getting people in early? I said "OK, but it is on your website"... he said NO. Alrighty then, but 2 photos attached to show that it is! Massage itself was nice, but I would have loved a hand towel to cover the pillow I was leaning against. I realized that I had just showered and washed my hair, and who knows how old that pillow was? I tipped him 20%, barely got a thank you and out I went. If I really needed it I would return with lower expectations AND my own towel to lie on! read more

I had walked by and wanted to try this place for foot reflexology and massage, and it did not disappoint! I did a 90 minute in a solo room, and this was one of the best massages I have had in a long time, and I have been to massage envy's and boutique massage spas in the greater boston area. The massage tech had a great balance of pressure points and medium pressure massage and my body feels more relaxed and open than it has in a long time. As a bonus, he was one of the few massage therapists that really did my legs and calves the right way to get to some of the stuck spots. I will absolutely be back! Note: from other reviews and some research, this massage style tends to be more medium to hard pressure and can be painful if you aren't used to trigger point or deep tissue. Its what I like to get full muscle release but might not be for someone looking for a lighter relaxation massage! read more

Let me start by saying I've been to another foot reflexology place in the area. In fact, I've been to a few in the past few years. This place is different. Yes, there is still the language barrier you get in many of them located nearby, but everybody was nice and very pleasant. I really liked the fact they wore a uniform of sorts, green scrubs. I don't know, it made me feel more like I was a little bit in a spa atmosphere rather than a place to have a foot massage. I got the Groupon that was for the Beijing spa experience. It was pretty cool. For the first 15 minutes my arms upper shoulders neck. And head were massaged. I was lying down on a Chaise lounge type of chair, with my feet in warm water that had rose petals in it. After that was done, the gentleman begin to work on my legs and my feet. A gentle acupressure in some spots and rubbing in beating my feet and my lower legs and others. It felt really nice. And very relaxing. I am usually extremely sensitive to touch on my inner lower legs, and here did not disappoint. The touch was firm, a little too firm for me, but would be fine for almost anybody else. It definitely loosened me up and made my feet and legs feel wonderful After that half hour was done, I was asked to lay on my stomach with my head in the spot for a massage. I can only describe it is very different than what I am used to. I was fully clothed. Also, it was very deep pressure. I can't really describe it as anything else. I have fibromyalgia, I feel wonderful tonight. Usually after a massage I have pain. This time? Just complete relaxation. Deep pressure in the areas of my lower back and mid back that I have problems with so much. The only downsides I found? The room I was in had about eight beds in it, separated every to buy a curtain. The gentleman who came in about 5 to 10 minutes after me was talkative.To talkative. I wish I was in a room on my own. It would've helped with the sound situation. And the only other? The gentleman who did my service, obviously was a smoker. I could smell it on his hands, and on his breath. I just wish that was master little by maybe some gum or a meant. I love this place. I have been going since they opened. I frequently purchase the 10 pack of Beijing Spa Treatment at a discounted rate. For the past few months I have been going once a week. Occasionally the massage therapist is too gentle or the pressure is too deep, but a word to them changes the pressure. I always come out feeling so much better than when I went in. read more

I've been a client at Oriental for a number of years, first in Watertown and now in Waltham. I find consistency among the practitioners, and yet each has their own special touch. Everyone there is professional and kind, and I always leave relaxed and happier than when I arrived. I've had both the Beijing Treatment and Tui Na. I prefer Beijing Treatment because it includes a nice hot foot soak and foot massage along with leg, arm, and back massage, although that's just personal preference. There may be a bit of a language barrier, but they ALL understand individuals' preferences and they usually check in to see if the pressure is good. Don't expect this business to be the model of an American massage treatment salon. The culture is Asian and quite different. The result? I went back there again and now I have mixed feelings. Basically don't try to walk in on the weekends because they are most likely booked and may take you in and rush it. I called right when they opened asking for same day appt on a Friday for a 11:15am appt but they were booked. I hesitated and said okay let me call you back when I figure out another time. Right away they said they could take me at 11 am. Fine. I go in there and the person at the front desk answering phones and making appointments was actually the person working on me. They took me to the big room with 8 beds since all the smaller rooms were booked. It was alright but the one thing that irked me was she was on the phone handling customer calls while giving me a "relaxing" head rub as well as ...I am assuming ...calling a masseuse to come in right away to handle me. When she was giving me the foot reflexology, I felt it was more of a lotion foot rub that my husband gives me instead of the reflexology that I've had before. When the masseuse finally came 30 mins into it I was like thank you Jesus! It turned out so much better. The rooms aren't sound proof so you can hear what's going on in the lobby. A lady comes in and said she's there with a party of 7. Oops sorry room occupied. So yea I felt that they were rushing me due to the fact that I'm by myself in a room of 8 beds and there's a party of 7 at noon. Maybe invest in movable curtains so you can have more separate parties in the big room. It does look ghetto but that's an option. Before I get into my review of this business, let me start off by saying welcome to my Ted Talk and AVOID THIS PLACE! I had a first time appointment here on Friday. I went in and the first thing said to me was "what's your number?". I gave my number and the receptionist said "okay go into room 1, take your shoes off and lay face down". There was an appointment book with only phone numbers on it which was really odd to me. She never asked for my name, medical history, and didn't even have me sign consent forms for them to treat me. I have never been to a massage place that didn't require some sort of form for them to treat you or ask for your medical history. I go into room 1 and notice there was a paper towel covering the part where you're supposed to lay your head down so I threw it in the trash. The therapist comes in the room and only says "Hi" and just starts working on me without asking anything. I'm constantly in a lot of pain and have issues with my pelvis, lower back, and hip due to my endometriosis so it was important for him to know this. He was very rough. I would wince, say ow, and 'lighter' until he noticed so he could lighten up the pressure but eventually his pressure would go back to how it was before. He dug his elbows so hard into my body that I still have bruises from it. After he was done "massaging" my back and legs, he literally karate chopped my whole body from my neck down to my ankles and then smacked my butt 5 times!! HOW IS THAT OKAY?! Now, you're probably wondering why I haven't left yet. Well I thought, 'How much weirder can this get?' and boy let me tell you, it got weirder. This guy now says "flip", for me to turn over to the front side. He then proceeds to pinch my cheeks/all around my face and then sticks his fingers in my ears for a good 5-10 seconds and wiggles them around. I've never had reflexology done so I don't know if all of this should have actually happened. After he literally finger banged my ears, he then proceeds to block my nose TWICE so it couldn't breathe!!! After that he goes to work on my feet, but before he does that he places a paper towel over my face and all I could think was 'I hope this isn't the paper towel I threw in the trash', because I never heard a new paper towel being ripped from a roll. He starts to work on my feet and I notice that he kept repositing my feet so that it was either touching his penis or near it but I kept moving my feet away because that was defintely not right. When the session was over he said "done", and when I put my shoes back on I noticed that he did in fact use the SAME PAPER TOWEL THAT I THREW IN THE TRASH at the beginning of the session!!! In total, this therapist said 3 words to me. I left in worse shape than when I went in, woke up with bruises, felt completely violated and am still traumatized from this horrible experience. I went in for a 1 hour foot reflexology. As the man was massaging my legs he was being incredibly rough. I asks a few times for him to use lighter pressure, but I'm not sure he understood. A few hours later my legs hurt so much I can't even touch them without feeling horrible pain. I also have a number of broken blood vessels on my shins. Avoid this place. They are not trained massage therapists. I feel like I received serious damage. I'm hoping everything heals up ok, and nothing too serious has been done. read more

The way a company treats its customer after having a bad experience reflects its values. This is my second time to this place. First time, great experience. However, this time, rug burn and rug burn throughout the entire massage. There were two towels provided, and after getting undressed and laying down, I put one of the towels over me which ended up being overly harsh and rugged, leaving rug burn with every Tui Na thrust. It was painful. My boyfriend put the same towel on his back. The only difference, I later found out that his massage therapist switched it out and gave him the soft plush one. Also, they didn't speak English so I couldn't be more vocal, and I thought in my head that maybe this was normal and a towel was needed for sanitary reasons. Day later, I call. Goal being: get an apology and have them tell me that they will train their employees better. Front desk guy, who turned out to be the owner, didn't speak English, and after explaining to him the situation he said "so, you want an appointment today at 6pm?". Luckily, he was Chinese and mom spoke mandarin so I had her translate. His response, not my problem, she didn't need to take off her clothes, it's not a massage - it is Tui Na. His tone and demeanor was nothing I've ever experienced! And why didn't he take responsibility over his massage therapists not informing me or switching the towels?! Moral of story: make sure they use the white towel on you. Massage therapist was nice and smiley after my massage. Owner, not so much. Not sure where he learned customer service and issue resolution from. All in all, I went from having sore skin and being upset to a frustrated customer who will never return based on how this owner handed the situation. My recommendation: Chinatown Pain Relief in Chinatown, they have a groupon and don't use towels! :) read more

My husband and I came here tonight on a Friday(6pm) because we do not like crowds just to ensure that we get our relax on before our weekend started. Aliyah (Front desk Professional) was awesome and answered all our questions. My husband and I were confused as to what a Beijing massage was, it basically was a massage of the calves, foot, back, hands and head- it was pure bliss! Their techniques are perfect because it got the kinks out of my calves, feet and back- yes in a matter of seconds!!!! Personally, I actually think it was better than a Deep Tissue Massage! Since my life is so hectic, I like my massage hours to be very quiet- so no talk while I am getting massaged. But I found myself having to just stop conversations while getting massaged in the past from other places.... But when you are here, you have no problem because that is the point, and also, Susan and Jack are not only fabulous masseurs, they only speak Mandarin only anyway :.) Tried this place initially with a Groupon for the 60 minutes Beijing Spa Treatment. My boyfriend and I were placed in a private room with 2 massage beds. The massage starts with head and arms, then move on to feet, and then they ask you to turn around to massage your back. The place is clean and service is professional! I feel a lot lighter and very relaxed after the session. We ended up purchasing a 6-pack Beijing Spa sessions for a promotional price of $175! It is totally worth the price (it ends up to be only $29 per session). We have already returned for a 2nd time and can wait to go back! Note that this is not your fancy Spa place that lights candles in the room (you keep your clothes on during the session), but definitely try it out if you want a solid Chinese feet and body massage for a more than reasonable price! read more

All the coffee shops close at 6 around Waltham and I needed something to do while I waited for my guy. I had been wishing for a massage for a few weeks and happened to I notice this place. I was impressed that at 6:30 on a Wednesday I could just walk in and have an hour long treatment. The facility is new, comfortable and nice. Tom, who gave the bodywork, seemed in tune with where I was holding stress. I enjoyed the medium hard pressure, even if it made me clench a bit in some moments. I could tell he was aware of the pressure and my body's response, which is super important. My only suggestion is to stock and use holistic oils and lotions instead of Vaseline brand lotion, which I wouldn't personally apply to my body. I'm big into natural body care and only use plant based simple stuff like shea or almond oil. But hey, if that's my only complaint...I used to pay a really good holistic lady who had to talk to me while she worked on me because she was hurting me so bad. Tonight I needed the quiet and a firm touch to ease my mind and body and that's exactly what I received. Make sure you bring cash for a tip if you're paying by card. My first experience with Tui Na - and it was a great one! The hour of Beijing bodywork was quite similar to acupuncture massages I've had in the past. I had not specified a male or female, and was a bit taken aback to discover that I was booked with a masseur... but I went with it, and I'm glad I did. He asked me how much pressure to use, and I said go for it! I am all for getting the kinks worked right out, but then I'm fairly experienced (although it's been a long time) in using deep breathing to relax through the pain. He knew exactly where all the tightest areas were, and many times checked that he wasn't being too hard, backing off to jiggle the tightest areas before applying direct pressure. I think my hamstrings went from piano wire to vermicelli, and I left feeling ten years younger. I booked an appointment for next week, this may just become a habit! read more

The guy was older although not too old but he did not follow the same technique for Tui NA as the other masseuses in the Watertown. He hurt me by pressing right on the spine. Also the manager was the same as in Watertown I was under impression he remembered the pressure I normally liked, but I guess not and no one asked me. On the contrary my husband like his lady masseuse ok, as we had a couples massage at the same time. I can not say I did not like it completely but most of it I did not get the feeling that he was a good masseuse. Its also weird that they do the whole body but not the feet inc. in Tui na treatment. I really like this place! Super clean and well-appointed. I was able to make a same day appointment for bodywork and foot reflexology. I was able to park on the street, about 20 steps from the door. I prefer it to Happy Feet Reflexology on Moody Street. The masseuse asked me if I wanted light or medium pressure - I choose medium and I think it was too much - my feet felt great at the time but were very sore the next day, so just keep that in mind. I asked for the Beijing spa treatment. I was placed in a room with multiple other people (this has happened before but it was not a problem - I have, in the past, been granted a private room). Literally 10 minutes into my massage, my massage was interrupted by talking from management to my massage therapist interrupting my massage. The talking was going on for at least 5 minutes (in Chinese) as I was trying to relax. I asked "WHAT was the problem?" The management informed me another client had requested my therapist. I asked, "Will the talking STOP?" The talking between staff DID stop at that point, and I was given a new (male) therapist. However, the other client in the room (an elderly lady) was talking to her daughter? (who was in the room as well)? The "talking" between the daughter and elderly client continued. I am baffled as to how this can be allowed to happen at a "place" that people come for relaxation? That is unacceptable..... This is not the first time that this has happened with the elderly lady and her daughter. She has been there in the past and has been very loud and no one has quieted her. As I had to pay for this service before this nonsense began, I didn't have an option to complain and ask to be compensated. I have been there 4 times and would like to continue to be a client, but this was unacceptable. read more

Um... the rose water was scalding. They had to put cold water in the tub because it was actually painful and I couldnt keep my feet in. I read reviews of another location that had a guy who was sick and smelled like nicotine. I also go this person. He was breathing on me and it was if he still had a cigarette in his mouth. He was sneezing for probably 10 minutes of the session. The foot massage was fine, and the back/shoulder stuff was ok, but when I got up, I could feel something in my throat like I might be getting sick. Drank lots of water, etc, vitamin c, emergenc, and woke up the next day with a slight scratch in my throat. A week later I still have a bad cold. I will never go back. I was shocked and in disbelief when I proceeded to tip the lady after my reflexology session, she looked at the amount and started shaking her head with unhappiness. I have come to this Waltham location for over seven years getting random people each time. I have bought multiple packages throughout the years, never once did I have to make an appointment!!!! every single time I've walked in I've been taken within 20 minutes no problem. I just called to let them know I will be coming in to which they told me I must make appointments and 5 is all they have open. It's 2 now I asked the gentleman if this is a new rule set because in the last seven years as recent as 2 months ago I did not have to make an appointment I could just walk in, the man proceeded to tell me that this was the rule that was always set and that walking in I was just lucky to have been taken, wow if my luck is that good that 15 times a year I can just walk in on a busy days and be taken. I am somebody that cannot make appointments and cannot wait hours for a massage if that was the case I would just go to massage envy where it's a lot more professional . This company is losing money by taking away the walk in service that they built their business on. After talking to the rude man at the front desk I asked for the owners work business email so that I could write a complaint against the individual he then acted like he could not understand and speak English even though he spoke perfect English for the five minutes before that moment and then proceeded to hang up on my face. When a consumer ask for public knowledge information you give it to them you don't disrespect them and then pretend not to speak English. I booked the Beijing Spa Treatment Package and got a little shoulder and head massage before the foot massage. It was AWESOME. In the beginning they asked how much pressure you want and I chose medium-hard. It was perfect. The back massage at the end was great too. Painful at times but good painful. I would always come back if I didn't move back to Germany. Everyone was super nice. Nice atmosphere, but with the door open I heard some other people talking. Super strange experience. When I entered, I saw a dark room, lights off, door open, with a man quietly sitting on a bed inside. They lost my appointment. It wasn't a huge issue for me - things happen, I asked to reschedule and come back another time but then they insisted on taking me. They had me talk on the phone to someone they said was the manager, who asked me for my phone number and no other information. A little weird, but ok. The man came out of the dark room - he was the reflexologist. More weird! He took me to a room, washed my feet, gave me a sort of massage on my feet, legs, back, arms and face. The massage was pretty bad. It was clear he didn't know how to do it. It wasn't just mediocre - it was bad. He did my face right after my feet, with his hands still wet from the water he used to wash my feet. That is gross. read more

I got pulled over for speeding and they wouldn't let me move the appointment, from the side of the road with a cop in my face. I have been going to this place since its inception and used to love it but as the customer service started going down I stopped 2 or so years ago. Today evening since I was in the area and thought let's give it a try maybe they have improved back to being good, but NOOOO. It's terrible customer service and worst of all the lady who massaged me was so bad! The massage was very less pressure and she had long nails and was jabbing, pushing part of the Beijing Spa treatment. She kept talking all the time to the other men employees next to her and her hand kept wavering as she was talking with her hands in the middle too. I've had many massages some great some good and some ok, this was the worst ever!! To top it all, I gave her 20% tip she stopped me and said "what this is tip, give more"!!!! My cousin and I decided to try the 1 hour foot reflexology for $35. I was really impressed with the service and the price. They put us in a big room which was section off so it gave us a little privacy and the masseuse worked on our scalp, neck and arms for 10-15 mins before starting on my legs and feet.
