Had some better than expected Chinese food. It certainly is among the best options in Princeton. Oriental Garden is pretty basic and typical. Looks about similar to many of these such restaurants and the food does too to be honest. The prices are pretty good for the big quantity. Coming in here the first time we were surprised it wasn't one of those Chinese restaurants with the big pictures of the food over the counter. It's actually a little nicer. The food still is pretty similar to many others. About what to expect on the menu. The typical Americanized type of stuff. It's about $11 for an entree. We got some of the tofu ones including the Bean Curd With Garlic Sauce. It had not much of a variety of vegetables but it had a spicy flavor. There's also plenty of options if wanting meaty things like beef, chicken, or seafood. Great thing is there's not much competition. It's closed Mondays. This was a random find for our return from Des Moines. They have tables for dine-in but everybody is urged to order at the kiosk. It is your standard Americanized Chinese food and most of the items on the menu are pretty typical except I don't recall seeing egg foo young. A lot of the entrees came with complimentary soup. The choices were wonton, hot and sour, and egg drop soup. We tried fried wonton, Mongolian beef, vegetarian lo mein, tofu in spicy garlic sauce, and sesame chicken combo with fried rice and egg roll. It was plenty of food for the six of us and we had leftovers. Proper Mongolian beef is hard to come by these days . It isn't supposed to be overly saucy and should just have enough sauce for a slight coating. The beef should be served with crispy white noodles and scallions. Oriental Garden's version is different and resembles the standard soy-sauce based sauteed beef with lots of mushrooms and onions. It was tasty but it wasn't Mongolian beef. And oddly enough, the fried wonton has meat when it usually doesn't. We weren't opposed to it though. read more

Man this place has some excellent food!! I am in from out of town and this is my second time back. The dining area is 100% self serve. Order meals on a tablet, pay the counter, make your own drink and soup. And then bus your own table. Parking is limited which is really annoying but not their fault. The dining area is brightly lit with music playing. Overall, so worth the drive. Would highly recommend! read more

This time I dined in. I loved that you could order on a pad for quicker service . The young worker even helped us. We then served our soup and they brought us our food. The staff here, even the young girls, hustle. I'm assuming it's a family business since everyone hustles like that . read more

Hadn't been there in several years and was very disappointed. They have remodeled and it now resembles an operating room with tables. I ordered a favorite spicy and it was very bland. What used to be a thick, flavorful sauce was soupy and tasteless. However, the server was very pleasant and attentive. I love the tofu dishes, and the lo mein is tasty. The hot and sour soup is my favorite.

The best Asian restaurants are the hole-in-the-wall. This is no exception. The coconut shrimp were a little too wet, but delicious. The self service center is nice, though slightly confusing. Luckily my friends had been before and showed me how to navigate it with ease. The reliefs on the wall were beautiful and helped me pass the time while I waited for the food - the wait was reasonable - less than 15 min. The restaurant was clean and the staff was friendly. Although this place seems a bit run-down on the inside, the food was great. Food was then delivered to the table. The sign on the door indicates that they are a self-service dine-in experience. We had never been, but we ordered at the counter and paid in advance. There was another large party in the dining area and they didn't pay in advance, so we might not have done that completely correct, but nonetheless, that was fine and didn't bother me in the slightest. For dine-in, they have all you can eat soup (3 choices). Serving sizes were above average. Lunch specials (priced $9-$10) included fried rice, soup, and choice of crab rangoon (2) or egg roll. Went to pick it up and the lady seemed inconvenienced by me being there. We all tried a little and the rest went in the trash. A lot of money wasted. Mmmhh. Ate here on 9:00 on Saturday night, and it was delicious as per usual. Oriental Garden is the perfect example of what I would think of as American Chinese food. Everyone always seems to love the Wonton soup, but I'm partial to the hot and sour soup. I've had the Veggie Lo Mein, and also some spicy tofu dishes, and everything has been delicious. The food totally meets expectations here, but what moves this place from 3 stars to 4 is the excellent customer service. Every time we come in here, the staff is so friendly and accommodating. They come to the table the right amount of times, and keep water glasses full. It's really the small stuff that adds up to a great experience. read more

We love this place. We usually go there for lunch about once a week. Food is cheap at the same time generous quantity and excellent quality. They have one of the best hot and sour soups I have had in the States. It is fresh and home made. Decor is OK, and service is fine for the type of restaurant. Their hot tea is free! This is a very good and reasonably priced Chinese restaurant. We had three dishes (House Special Noodles, Singapore Noodles, and Mapo Tofu) and they were all very good. The Hot and Sour Soup was flavorful and spicy. The Won Ton were obviously made on-site. The atmosphere is nice and the staff friendly. A sign said there was parking in back. The seem to be closed on Wednesday (so call if on hump day). read more

I drive from Iowa to Chicago every week and need a go to Chinese take out place on the road. I am also a fan of Singapore noodles so imagine my disappointment when the yellow curry/spices they put on their noodles didn't taste very good. I am a big fan of curry too, good Indian, Thai and Japanese curry are some of my favorite dishes. Not sure if Chinese curry is different but this really had an off taste. We ate here on 9-15-18. I had Gai Poo which came with my choice of soup. I had won ton soup and it was delicious. My friend opted for Moon and 7 Stars and he chose the hot and sour soup which he said was great! We also had an order of fried won ton which were perfect. Our meals were hot, fresh and tasted wonderful. The food here is better than any Chinese restaurant in Peoria. Well worth the drive!! read more

Best Chinese food we've had since Lin Garden in Ottawa changed ownership (& we quit going)! We JUST heard about Oriental Garden and were tickled to find it! I got the Chicken with vegetables lunch combo. It was excellent! The wonton soup was soooo good! Hubby got the Hawaiian Chicken House Specialty, which was pretty much the Chicken with vegetables with added pineapple (Wish I'd gotten that. That little extra sweetness from the pineapple made an awesome dish even better!) Next time though I'm gett something with more "zing". Started to but figured I'd try a basic dish the 1st time in. And the Rangoons are as every bit as good as the other reviewers said! The spring rolls we got were crispy on the outside & had GREAT flavor but, for me, the filling was a little bit mushy. I like my filling a little more crunchy, not cooked quite so done. And the staff was VERY friendly & accommodating. We live in Spring Valley & its well worth the drive to Princeton to Oriental Garden for fresh, delicious, PIPING HOT, Chinese food! We'll definitely be back! read more

how to review a basic chinese food restaurant in a one horse town? At least they had one in the dying downtown. fried shrimp was real basic. the ma-po tofu was ok, lots of sauce, little flavor. no alcohol served. the nice waitress did bring me some hot chili pepper sauce tho. food was cheap. just kind of a bummer, looking out the window at all the closed and shuttered buildings across the street. i wanted to ask-what the hell do people do in this town? but later i found out from someone with whom im working with in the area. This is Chinese food that I compare all other Chinese food to. Always hot and fresh. The waitress is extremely nice and great with making sure you have refills when needed and always checks up on you to make sure everything is okay. Vegetables are always fresh.
