We tried to get a table only to be told there were 6 groups ahead of us. The bartender who was handling the hostess position also didn't even try to get our names or the people before us. My wife and I went here for the first time last night and the inside is very inviting, low light, and cozy. The waitress was very nice, maybe not dressed up enough with an old ratty tshirt, but still nice. Drinks were good, appetizer was good, but the entries were not. Half their menu doesn't have pricing and refers to "market value", but I ordered the $52 Ribeye anyway. I ordered medium, but it came absolutely charred. There was burnt char falling off the entire outside. The American fries were swimming in grease as well. My wife got the breaded chicken breast, and it too was swimming in grease, which was pooled underneath. The bartender was in the background and talking very loud and honestly was a bit strange. Had drinks and ordered an appetizer, main entree, I had the salmon was very tasty just the right portion for me, my son ordered the 12oz prime rib, looked more like 8oz ribeye steak, he has eaten a lot of prime rib said had better, his wife had chicken parm very large portion, pasta not that great. I can't say enough good about this restaurant. They have done it all right from the decor to the cocktails to the food. I was in town for a brief period for work and chose them more or less at random to treat myself to a steak. I started with the Orange Whip martini made by the owner/proprietor himself. Not to be confused with a Creamsicle, this concoction is a it stronger and ever so tasty...had to have two to be sure. Dinner was the Filet Bordelaise with a side of pasta, and it was exquisite. Perfectly tender and a beautiful sauce on a cut of meat I rarely eat with a sauce. It was an absolutely perfect dining experience. I had the ribeye which was expensive but worth it, very buttery, perfectly cooked to my request, and a quality well chosen cut of meat. I was super impressed with The Study Supper Club on both Friday and Saturday. My husband Paul and I came to this area for a weekend getaway to hike at Starved Rock State Park, and were hoping to find a nice place for dinner and drinks in the evening. Well, we found it! We already had dinner on Friday, so stopped in here for a tasty Manhattan with cherries. We were greeted by Riley, one of the owners, and he was extremely welcoming and gave us a bunch of recommendations for the park. We enjoyed our time here so much on Friday, that we came back for dinner on Saturday. I mean, why chance striking out somewhere else, when you already found a gem?!?!!! We came on Saturday and I had a Dirty Martini with homemade blue cheese stuffed olives (my favorite) and a Shrimp Cocktail for an appetizer. We enjoyed a conversation with the owners Riley and Dani at the bar, before heading to our table for dinner. Our waitress was very prompt, kind and knowledgeable of all the food items. We started with the bacon wrapped scallops, which were so yummy! For my main course, I ordered the King Cut Prime Rib, and it was amazing. I typically don't order prime rib because I get worried about too much fat, but this cut was perfect, not too fatty at all. For my sides, I had a cup of the Corn Chowder soup and a side salad, both were great. I also ordered a side of the waffle cut fries to go with the prime rib. Yum! After dinner, we went back to the bar for an awesome ice cream drink called the Brandy Alexander! We shared this one since it was so big! I know this is a lot of food, but we hiked 11 miles, so were totally down for treating ourselves to whatever we wanted. Ha! The ambience is very lovely, relaxing and romantic. The food here is good although I stick to limited items so I'm not sure about steaks etc.... But the owner/bartender guy is extremely rude and the last time we visited, we decided not to go back simply for that reason. Snide is a good descrption of his personality. Rude bar tender we just left he didn't want to serve three beautiful women. Right when my wife and daughters walked in he shouted at them ask what do you want. Blown away! This restaurant is fantastic. It starts with the positive energy radiating from the owners. They are truly vested in their business. They are personable, accommodating and fun. Had dinner here the other night. Definitely a winner. Food and drinks were wonderful, atmosphere was unique and fun. Service was a little slow, but they were crowded and it was understandable. Menu was interesting; there needs to be more Supper Clubs in the world. No dessert menu to speak of - although they have a great assortment of ice-cream drinks. Our server was nice enough to bring me a dish of ice cream upon my request - and even added chocolate syrup. Not sure if that is something they do for everyone, but I'm happy I was accommodated. It looks like a good place, ambience is nice. I had the NY Strip that was not very flavorful. I had to add lots of salt which I hate doing and it still didn't improve the flavor. My wife had the seared Tuna, rare. She got all the salt. She thought she was going to have a heart attack. I tried it and I agree, way too much salt. It wasn't tender at all considering it was seared, rare. Tate's like tuna out of a can. Service was slow too. I had to flag down the waitress to get a glass of wine to go with my steak. She then started to walk away with out asking my wife if she needed another drink. The check came and the waitress didn't show back up. I ended up going to the bar to pay it. Our first and most likely last visit. My steak was really fatty. When a server asks whether or not I want A1 I know im in trouble. Service was okay, but we were never asked about desert at the end (my family hot the impression we were not regulars so treated as such). The whole experience was absolutely wonderful. The owners are a really nice, sweet couple that pay attention to detail. My husband was drinking manhattans and from across the room the owner noticed he wasn't eating the cherries, so he brought over blue cheese stuffed olives which was a big hit. The ambiance is perfect. Our server Lauren was great, we actually met her earlier in the day while shopping local at a men's boutique (That Guy's Secret - owner Jeremy recommended the Study to us). Food was good. Nice ambiance. It's pricey which is not necessarily a deterant. For some this is going to seem small but here goes. When I go out I want something that I cannot necessarily get at home. Small, petty, whatever I do not have margrine at home I have butter. I am willing to pay close to 30.00 for scallops I expect butter for my baked potatoe or bread or whatever. This is a pet peeve of mine. I don't expect liquid coffee creamer for my coffee and I don't expect margrine when it should be butter. read more
