Filet Bordelaise with a side of pasta
Gary H.

I can't say enough good about this restaurant. They have done it all right from the decor to the cocktails to the food. I was in town for a brief period for work and chose them more or less at random to treat myself to a steak. I started with the Orange Whip martini made by the owner/proprietor himself. Not to be confused with a Creamsicle, this concoction is a it stronger and ever so tasty...had to have two to be sure. Dinner was the Filet Bordelaise with a side of pasta, and it was exquisite. Perfectly tender and a beautiful sauce on a cut of meat I rarely eat with a sauce. It was an absolutely perfect dining experience. I would seriously consider driving out of my way to Peru, Illinois from my home in Pennsylvania just to eat this again.

Beautiful sunset at the nearby canal (just a 3-5 minute drive from the restaurant, recommended by the servers)

The food was great and the servers were very down to earth and friendly. I had the ribeye which was expensive but worth it, very buttery, perfectly cooked to my request, and a quality well chosen cut of meat. My wife had the Alfredo pasta and use was also very good, buttery and the cheese had a unique tanginess that was distinctive and delicious. Cocktails were great too. A lovely experience. Highly recommended.

I was super impressed with The Study Supper Club on both Friday and Saturday. My husband Paul and I came to this area for a weekend getaway to hike at Starved Rock State Park, and were hoping to find a nice place for dinner and drinks in the evening. Well, we found it! We already had dinner on Friday, so stopped in here for a tasty Manhattan with cherries. We were greeted by Riley, one of the owners, and he was extremely welcoming and gave us a bunch of recommendations for the park. We enjoyed our time here so much on Friday, that we came back for dinner on Saturday. I mean, why chance striking out somewhere else, when you already found a gem?!?!!! We came on Saturday and I had a Dirty Martini with homemade blue cheese stuffed olives (my favorite) and a Shrimp Cocktail for an appetizer. We enjoyed a conversation with the owners Riley and Dani at the bar, before heading to our table for dinner. Our waitress was very prompt, kind and knowledgeable of all the food items. We started with the bacon wrapped scallops, which were so yummy! For my main course, I ordered the King Cut Prime Rib, and it was amazing. I typically don't order prime rib because I get worried about too much fat, but this cut was perfect, not too fatty at all. For my sides, I had a cup of the Corn Chowder soup and a side salad, both were great. I also ordered a side of the waffle cut fries to go with the prime rib. Yum! After dinner, we went back to the bar for an awesome ice cream drink called the Brandy Alexander! We shared this one since it was so big! I know this is a lot of food, but we hiked 11 miles, so were totally down for treating ourselves to whatever we wanted. Ha! The ambience is very lovely, relaxing and romantic. The service was fantastic and the food was delicious! We can't wait to visit again! Thank you for a great experience.

This place... oh my goodness, this place. The GEM of the Illinois Valley. I could sing praises to…read moreMongolian Grill from the rooftops, and I would if I had access to a roof. Let me state that I have been eating here since they opened, around 2013-2014 perhaps. Everything has stayed consistent, including the pricing, and that's been impressive. When you walk in, you have the option of ordering from the menu or doing the buffet and let me tell you- get the buffet. If you can cook at all, you will enjoy yourself here. You'll get your soft drink, then it's off you go to build your masterpiece. Five separate buffets with two side stations, there's a lot to process. There's two small stations, one for fried rice and one for ice cream. There's a cold bar in the back which features some salad items and desserts, and one buffet table full of ready to eat apps and foods with some soups offered. I did giggle that the one says "eggg dorp soup". It's what you'd expect at any Chinese buffet. Then we get to the good stuff- the hibachi stuff. You have three bars for hibachi: your noodles and veggies, your meats, and your sauce ingredients. You get a bowl and load it up with your choice of noodles and veggies, there are so many options. Tofu, egg, zucchini, baby corns, broccoli, water chestnuts, sprouts... I can't get enough color! Then you move over to the meat buffet, where you select your raw cuts and place the pieces in your bowl. I typically do the beef and shrimp, always good quality. You'll bring your bowl to the hibachi grill and set it on the counter so they can start cooking it. You'll go make your sauce at this point, which is where it could get overwhelming if you don't know flavors well. There are probably 20 sauces to mix and about 25 seasonings and the likes to add flavor, so there's a lot of room for creation with your sauce! You'll bring it up to the hibachi again when you're done, and they'll plate your order and bring it to you if needed. For $10.99 a person, what a stellar deal. So much fresh produce and variety from a family owned business, it's a staple in the Illinois Valley. Although I've moved to another state at this point, this is the one restaurant I haven't seen done this well and one I miss whole heartedly. I visited the IV from Florida recently and ensured I ate there several times because I just can't get enough of the great service and incredible food. If you haven't eaten here yet, you're missing out. Stop by today and build yourself the meal you deserve.

Was there late afternoon, so not all food tray were stocked. But still had a good variety to select…read morefrom.. The hibachi/Mongolian BBQ, very good!

He was super nice and "Johnny on the spot" in all our service requests. The food and drinks were great. Still the same quantity, quality AND value. Plenty of large popcorn shrimp rounded out the platter. Comes with the salad bar, which is fresh and tasty. Good selection of salad toppings. The Seafood Platter is also a wonderful plate of a tasty variety of fish. The broiled cod is to die for. Pollack was crispy and the popcorn shrimp plentiful. Such a great dining experience. Gets most of its customers from around. They have some pretty typical bar food if you like fried things. Bar and grill, with most of the focus being on the beers and cocktails. It's just best to not take chances and play it safe. The bar looks pretty divy from the outside, and rest assured it's like that on the inside too. Amazing that it's in the middle of a residential neighborhood. There must be noise complaints one can imagine about the crazy patrons. It's about $3 for the cheapest drinks. There's often specials including on beers and wells. Food menu has greasy favorites. It's about $8 for a burger or a sandwich. Loads of toppings. Big menu but most of it is meaty. There's a few things made with avocado and sprouts, but usually in combination with bacon or something. For sure it has a lot of choices if you're looking for typical bar food. It's located on the street it's named for obviously. They're even open for breakfast, so you can get your drinking on early, while getting eggs and whatever.

It's good to see places like this that have survived the pandemic. The bar is covered with stickers of bands that have played there, another plus that they support area music!
