For many it may be hard to believe there's any good restaurants in Mendota. It's a rinky dink town with not much going on. China House is among the okay places to eat. Has a buffet, but that food is most crappy compare to the menu items. There's some pretty okay choices, if you look for these. At lunch the restaurant had a light crowd. It's hard imagining there would be too many people in here. The town is pretty small, meaning there's not a whole lot of people to come show up. Even so, there were quite a few in here. The menu has pretty much Chinese American basic stuff. It's about $8 for an entree. We got the Ma Po Tofu. We got them to make it vegetarian. Seriously there's a lack of these choices. The tofu was the soft kind, but there were peppers and tons of spice. Good place for its location. It may not look like much, and it sure isn't much. The food has pretty good prices and the portions are pretty big, so this is a pretty good value. read more

This may be a smaller buffet than some are used to. The great thing is the food in the buffet moves very fast thereby keeping it fresh and they replenish quickly. The restaurant is clean and the staff polite. The price is very fair and the food is delicious. Mendota is very lucky to have such a nice place to enjoy such good food. Sooo.... It's pretty much average Chinese fare. It's small with just 3 rows of food one of them being sub-par deserts. That being said the peanut chicken was good, crab Rangoons were good and so were the egg rolls. There just wasn't a lot of choice. I can't really say that's unusual since it's a small place in a small town. The price was decent however drink refills are NOT free. I found that kind of unusual and disconcerting at the same time. I'm sorry, I don't know what is wrong with these people leaving 4 & 5 star reviews. It's cafeteria food. Everything is steamed cooked. Beef is Grey and rubbery. The only good food place here in Mendota is Del Rey. Literally every other restaurant in Mendota is your basic cafeteria food. We've tried them all multiple times as well as China House. Rather drive to Downers grove for Chinese Food than try this crap again. read more

I absolutely love china house, it's nostalgic flavors remind me of when I was a kid. There's absolutely nothing bad on their menu, I quite literally get everything! The service is incredible, the staff is always super kind and always working hard. They gave my boyfriend extra food for free when they were closing up and we really appreciated it:) They have a private area to eat in as well if you don't like big crowds but normally it's not so busy. We were very disappointed in the food this time around. No veggies in our food at all and no sauce or flavor. There wasn't even a green onion, celery or water chestnut to be found and I hate water chestnuts, but sure would have ate one this time. Will not be going back. This was a take out order. read more

Well about 6 months ago I decided to take out buffet, lady told me not to take to much shrimp, at check out she changed me $1 more for taking too much shrimp, today I didn't feel like cooking, so I decided to go get some take out buffet again! Well as I asked for a large egg drop soup, the girl told me a small one comes with the dinner I thought to my self SCORE! Got my food which includes two pieces of the dried u rib eye, shrimp, salmon and a egg roll, I go to pay and now my bill went up almost $3 so I asked the lady are you charging for the soup, she quickly answer NO, dismissive and hands me my card so I asked her why she charging me soo much, she angrily answered me you take to much meet! Too much shrimp! Box is opened so we charge you more, I was not happy! So I said to her why don't you have this posted she ignored me, (rude) so I asked what her name she said I don't know I just work here your soup take two minutes! I was waiting for that darn soup after all I was charged a lot !!! So everyone that walked in here I told them make sure your box is not open they will charge you more, and the soup is free, she went to the kitchen and said something in the native language, and a guy brought me my soup, I will not be eating this soup, I don't know what they did to it for about 2 minutes. Not happy NOT IMPRESSED!!! But if you don't mind being gouged for more money enjoy. read more

Chinese restaurant with a standard buffet. I felt they did a decent job of refreshing the food in the trays, but the selection of option was less than other Chinese buffets I've visited. Enjoyed the soft serve ice cream for dessert. Didn't have much interaction with the staff, but the efficiently cleared dirty dishes from the table. read more

Food was hot and for the most part fresh. They definitely refresh the buffet more then the 2 larger chinese buffets 20 minutes south of mendota. I will definitely drive farther for better food. Also they have soft serve ice cream. No ice cream scoops soaking in dirty water. No tubs of ice cream with a mixture of flavors from the less than clean ice cream scoops. Definitely my new chinese buffet. They do not have sushi. They DO NOT have signs telling you to "take all you want, eat all you take" and the food at that chinese place is not hot nor is it fresh. If you have not tried this place you are missing out. They do not have a huge selection. What they offer is fresh and hot even at 214 pm on a Sunday. There were 2 tables when we came in and still they check and refresh the buffet. Definitely not the norm at the 2 biggest Chinese buffets in Peru. read more

When I am in the Mendota area for lunch, I always look forward to eating here. The restaurant is fairly small, and does not offer the variety of some larger Chinese Buffets, but for my taste, this is some of the best Chinese food I've found in Northern Illinois (I avoid Chicagoland when I can).
