I just love this place. Awesome beer selection and the food is top notch. They have the best Sammie's and salads and they have icecream from Calder dairy if you need a sweet treat for the littles. OG Brewing Company is becoming a staple in our diet, so I think it's time for THE Review... OG has some solid taps, but for me, the food menu is the draw. While they offer a few snacks and salads, they have a robust menu of pressed sandwiches which come with a pickle and chips. Pay the extra and order the chip dip (You can thank me later). If not sitting at the bar, you place your order at the register. Your beers are served and you are given a number for your food to be delivered to your table. There is a long (often full) bar, lots of indoor tables, and a large patio area that occasionally features a band. Overall, OG is a great sandwich shop that also happens to be a brewery. The ambiance is casual and fun, and we don't mind bringing our kid which earns bonus points in my book! read more

Came with friends on a brewery crawl. It made the list because not everyone in our group likes beer and they have cider options. The beer and cider were very good. We also had the Italian sandwich (which was good) and pizza dippers (okay). The line moved somewhat quickly but got long a few times. A bare-bones brewpub. A mostly open space with a slightly industrial feel. Lots of breweries used to be like this, and it's a setting that doesn't bother me a bit. When breweries get fancy, they lose a bit of their charm, it seems to me. Had some good beers here over the years. Their Primordial Porter (which I had on our latest trip) may be my favorite. Southpaw IPA is also good, and saison my wife tried Saturday was very satisfying. We'd never eaten there before, but when we went there Saturday, we got the turkey reuben sandwiches. Their menu mainly consists of sandwiches warmed on a grill press. The reubens were good--plenty of turkey, just the right amount of coleslaw and swiss. Not being truly grilled, they were cool on the inside but I've had "proper" reubens I enjoyed less. We'd like to try a few of the other sandys on offer at OG. After we finished lunch we tried the belgian quad. A bit on the sweet side, but still pleasant to sip and linger with on a cold winter afternoon. read more

Original Gravity is located in Milan. The brewery is quite large and has a huge patio area with heat lamps for people who choose to take their beverage outside. They have a great set up for watching sports. We ended up splitting a brown ale and had a sample. The beers were very good. They also serve food at this brewery. read more

Somewhat surprised i haven't left a review here yet.... Milan's own microbrewery, it is nice to have a place where you can get a solid porter and watch some sports with friends. Since the place has opened there has been a patio add on and events have become more and more attractive to attend. Trivia is always a fun night. The panini-sandwiches available are pretty decent. I wish the food menu was expanded just a bit. But i love the selection of drinks and the ice cream floats are a fun touch. read more

We really enjoy craft beer brewpubs. And Original Gravity is worth a visit. We came up from Toledo. Met with a friend from the area for Sunday lunch. Nice atmosphere. There was a decent Sunday crowd. For better or worse we drink a lot of beer in this family. So what a delight to find excellent beer, yummy food and cozy, fun ambience on our way north to visit family. My husband had the Mystique Ale with locally grown hops. Delicious!! I first had the 10 speed Saison, which was a little light for my taste, but my second glass, Funk Sound Saison hit the mark 100%! This alone was worth a stop, but wait there's more... A perfect grilled cheese ( do not skip the pickle!) and wonderful og garden salad -with potentially addictive honey mustard dressing- busts Gravity Brewery out of the traditionally limited pub offerings. When here on date night to observe a local brewery - didn't have to drive that far and the cozy setting looked intriguing. Little disappointed in the fact that there were no waitresses, but the very clean bathroom soon made up for it :-) try the sampler. Lots of beer types available and some cool nonalcoholic beverages as well. Still disappointed and not having a waitress. Menu is okay - haven't gotten the food yet. Chips are to your right - they're good, but low class compared to when I would've liked to of expected half of the cool joint. LOL, Eric thought the self-serve water was actually an ATM machine :-) The chips and salsa are okay - salsa is kind of hot. Bread and hummus is good you get a bunch of it but no silverware, LOL. We did the sampler and paid the two bucks for the extra beer. Why were they out of beer bread? Isn't that a big hit? Apparently they have it on Wednesday I'm going to runs out it runs out... I make it in the middle of if I were you :-) We're at the point of dinner... Sandwiches finally came and the pastrami was cold - or maybe a bit warm but overall okay and had a red sauce kind a like French dressing? Eric's grilled cheese was pretty good - but would've been better with beer bread! Nestled between multiple correction facilities (and former home of beloved mayor Kwame Kilpatrick), Original Gravity is a welcomed find in the fields of middle Michigan. Recently I've stopped in for a sandwich and brew. The turkey Rueben was smaller than expected for $8.50. However, it was damn tasty. There is a nice variety of craft brews. I tried the wit and English bitter. They were a little weak for my taste in beer, but had good flavor. I recommend this place if you are in the area. read more

The beer here is absolutely five star brew!!! I have never been disappointed with an OG beer. Even the 440 Pepper, though I wouldn't drink much of it, is still a quality beer with very unique flavor. On this visit, we tried every beer they had on tap. My top picks of the day: -The Southpaw IPA. Fan-freaking-tastic! This is the most balanced IPA I've had. And that's sayin' somethin' cuz I'm a big IPA drinker. -The Witbier. Also delicious. My 3rd favorite of the day. Great flavor! -The Root Down (ginger beer). Sooooo gingery. I'm imagining it with a shot of bourbon and a lime. Or not. It's too good. You've gotta try it. The sandwiches they have to offer are perfect paired with any of the beers. Though they are not any highfalutin' gourmet stuff, that's not what you would expect at a micro-brewery, eh? They serve them on local bread, with boar's head meats. You wont be disappointed. I never would have thought to go to Original Gravity on my own because I've never been a beer expert and now I have to be gluten free. My brother's blues band was playing there, so that was the big draw. Hubby and I arrived early, in order to have dinner before the band began to play. The place was still relatively quiet at 6:00 pm on a Friday night, but I though I'd enjoy the corn chips and salsa appetizer. Good thing I had picked that, because I was starving and it took a while for the rest of our dinner to show up. The chips are made at the restaurant. Nicely thick and crunchy. Not too salty. The tomato salsa was very simple, with a little heat and also low in salt. I had ordered the Chef Salad with turkey, cheese and salami, leaving off the croutons and ranch dressing. (I bring my own oil & vinegar.) I decided to take a chance by getting everything else that the salad comes with, and I didn't have an MSG reaction. The ingredients were fresh, interesting and filling. I could barely finish all of it. Hubby had the BBQ Chicken Sandwich on sourdough bread and a dark beer (porter) that smelled nice. He said he had trouble finishing all of it. I didn't offer to help, gluten or not. Bands play out on the patio, which is also called the beer tent with a cash bar outdoors. There is a lot of shade and it's very pleasant, with lots of seating at picnic tables. There was a birthday party going on, couple danced to the band, and a little boy in a Star Wars t-shirt stole my heart. He wasn't dancing, per se, but racing around and frolicking. He ran circles around his mother. Original Gravity is a very kid friendly place. There were lots of children with their parents. One table was playing Jenga. I clearly gotta get out more. I'd go back to Original Gravity in a heartbeat, especially when there's a band playing. read more

We love this spot! The location has indoor and outdoor seating. The majority of the outdoor seating is heated. It is spaced out very well during covid times. They have great selection of beer, good food, good prices and service is quick. Typically they have arcade games, but those are not being used at this time. Every year my husband and I visit Michigan, we make a beeline toward Original Gravity. The beer is excellent. Great flavor on all that I've tried. The food is pretty good. You look at the menu and think, eh, sandwiches, but they really make them tasty. My go-to is the turkey and avocado. The setting is pretty low-key, kind of divey. Not too noisy. The OG, nestled in the little town of Milan, is a family-friendly brewpub. Proof positive: on a recent snowy Saturday afternoon, my boyfriend and I got our beers, ordered sandwiches, and grabbed a board game from the ample supply. By the time our sandwiches arrived, a 10-year-old boy hanging out with his father at the bar wandered over and started giving my boyfriend Scrabble pointers. In between mouthfuls of grilled cheese with apples and dijon, and sips of the Belgian Training Wheels (tastes exactly as the name implies- an easy-drinking Belgian), we discussed the merits of snow days and snow forts with this self-possessed young kid. Clearly, OG is a neighborhood hangout as well as a destination for Ann Arborites. The atmosphere of the pub is cozy, and I really appreciate breweries like OG that put a little effort into the food side of things. The bartender was willing to take complicated substitution requests in food orders. Once, we made it down too late and were relieved to find that they offer pretzels with a dizzying variety of dips, including horseradish or Nutella, even after the kitchen is closed. As other reviewers pointed out, OG is only a short drive from AA or Ypsi, and it's definitely worth the trip. Just don't take any Scrabble pointers: despite the outside assistance, my boyfriend still lost the game to me. read more

Nine miles south of Ypsi, but worlds away from anything you can find in a bottle. Prior to last night I wasn't even sure where Milan was, but as I was told a few times, it's only nine miles south of Ypsi. If you fancy yourself a beer connoisseur or even just a semi-pro glutton, you need to make the trek out to Milan for Original Gravity Brewing Co. I started with the Mason Brewer, a wonderfully crafted beer in the style of English Bitters. This style isn't seen very often at local brewers and it was a nice treat. This beer alone would have been justification for at least 4 stars, but the next beer tipped the scales decidedly into OG's favor. After the Mason Brewer I moved on to the Pastrami-on-Rye Amber Ale. This is the 5 star beer, the brass ring, the bar that everything else I had that night was measured against. This is a rich smokey beer that was overflowing with flavor. The Pastrami ale is quite possibly one of the 10 best beers I have ever had. I cannot recommend this spot enough. read more

In my humble *cough* *cough* opinion, OG is hands down better than ABC in A2, Corner in Ypsi and Wolverine in A2. Granted each of those places has its own worthy esthetic (and people do not even dare be thinking in your head 'Oh, she forgot to mention Grizzly Peak' because I so did NOT- they are not even on the radar of anyone who likes real beer, hello! Yes, I don't care if they originated in Traverse City, so what). STRAIGHT UP BEEEEER For summer beers, OG is the best and they have a lot of other respectable beers geared more toward people like me who are Stout and Porter snobs, but like all the rest, I wish they would get away from the coffee trend in dark beers, but alas, it seems that everyone is guilty, not just them. Can Michigan end the 'breakfast stout' trend? I am so over it- even before it began. I don't like coffee flavors mixed with my beer, thanks. ***They microbrew a lot of small batches like so many in the area, but these are actually worth having. FOOD Anyway, food- they still leave a lot to be desired. I mean I would not say anything was bad per se, but food is ok. However, I did not go there for the food and was just hungry so had a sandwich. Personally, I always like my sandwiches to be on buttered, grilled bread so it has a nice crunch and buttery flavor enhancing the sandwich, but many places do not grill the bread. Might be a thought OG- step it up a notch on the sandwich bread and you'll get a revised review of 5 stars. BEER GARDEN It's a low-key place with a small beer garden. It's a cement beer garden, not a nice garden like Corner in Ypsi has, but still, there is a beer garden to be had and it's not bad. Take a trip further south in Michigan and be delighted that you did by stopping into Original Gravity. You might find that you learn that OG actually stands for "Oh Gawd, this beer is so good!" read more

The OG is awesome in both beer and atmosphere. Brad (brewer/owner) simply will not serve a bad beer and it shows. My personal favorite is the IPA, which is virtually always on tap. They have a standard line up (alt, Belgian, the IPA, amber) and often have special releases. My husband still talks a lot about the pastrami beer that Brad had last year. The place is extremely welcoming and friendly. It's small enough to be cozy but you don't feel like you are stuffed in there. Not sure abotu the person who said they didn't feel welcome...I have never felt unwelcomed there, even when it's super busy and the bartenders are hopping all over the place. I've been coming here since 2008, so I thought I would update my last review. This is a cool brewery in the small town of Milan. The beer and food is good and the bar itself has a cool vibe to it. They also have a nice outdoor beer garden to relax with friends over a beer. My favorite beer is the southpaw IPA. I also like the County Street Amber, Ez duz it IPA, If you like porters, then the Porter is also tasty. The food is also pretty good. They serve delicious sandwiches made with gourmet meats and cheeses. For a place that only serves sandwiches and snacks, a lot of thought went into the menu. They also have live music on Fridays b. Overall, I highly recommend OG. I go there whenever I get the chance. read more

On a recent Saturday, we decided to take a mini-road trip and try out Original Gravity in Milan, Michigan. I had sampled their beer at a couple of beer festivals, (and always found my way back to their tent), so we decided to visit them at the source. I've really enjoyed their beer at the past few Michigan Brewers Guild Fests and have been wanting to make the trip out here since they opened. They ended up needing a band for the Milan Dragway party tonight. I had sent emails out last weekend for Unwelcome Guests from Buffalo who were desperate for a place to play. Needless to say, the most awkward show ever happened tonight. The staff at OG is amazing. They had over 100 people in the place and I never had to wait more that a minute or two for a beer and they were really friendly. Beers are $4-5 for a 20oz pour. The Amber and Porter are really great. The IPA and Alt(seasonal) are good as well. Food is limited to paninis, I didn't have one, but they looked tasty. Growlers are $13/15 for new ones or $8/10 for refills. They will fill growlers from other breweries too. read more

Yesterday was my second trip to OG. I had a Saison and the Cream Ale. My wife had the Porter. All three were exceptional. We ordered an Italian sandwich, which came with pickle (a nice garlicky dill) and a bag of chips. Chips were ok, nothing to write home about. Sandwich was on the spicy side, which I liked. I would order it again in a heartbeat. My only complaint is the place had a weird smell, which I am assuming came from the brewing process? It wasn't bad (or good), just noticeable. New brewery opened a few weeks ago in Milan. The owner took a building that used to be a warehouse for auto parts and completely remodeled it. Now there's a bar with big shiny tanks behind it. If you like beer, you should check it out. All my connections in the beer brewing world (i.e. my buddy Stephen) tell me it's a good place for people who are serious about beer. If you want, you can order a sampler platter with about a half dozen glasses of beer and you can swirl them around in your mouth, one at a time and use all the beer-tasting faces that you practice in the mirror. On our way back to my relative's house in Dundee, we stopped by Original Gravity Brewing Company in Milan and were impressed by their beer offerings. My husband is a beer connaisseur and we have been to breweries all across the country, including our favorites-- Dog Fish Head in VA/MD/DE and Russian River in Santa Rosa CA. Original Gravity actually had a nice variety of beers and I loved their pumpkin gingerbread ale. Super yummy. My husband had some IPA, my aunt a pilsner (i think), and my uncle something else after he complained that I had the last bit of the pumpkin keg. =) My only complaint about the place is the brewery itself. The place is pretty dark and kinda dirty looking. An "L" shape, it reminds me of the sketchy bars I frequented in college and am grossed out by now. Investing some money in the appearance of the brewery would make a HUGE difference and would entice more patrons (especially fickle-females like myself). A few well-placed hanging lights over the long picnicky-tables, the bar, and small 4-top table area would make a HUGE difference. It would even be neat to illuminate the metal brewing tanks just to add to the appeal of the brewery (and as so many brew pubs do). Will go back with purell in my pocket. read more
