We hosted our rehearsal dinner for our son's wedding at the Ugly Dog. Rob and his staff were amazing to work with and they really went the extra mile to make sure that our evening went well. We rented the upstairs area as well as the back of the distillery for a sit down dinner. The space was really perfect! They made signs for our guests for 'bride and groom drinks' as well as a decorated sign directing the guests upstairs. We had so many compliments from our guests. The bartenders were super helpful. I tried our local distillery for the first time. I drive by every day and it is only a mile from where I live. They were doing a bingo event tonight so it was busy but the staff kept up. Super friendly bar tenders I tried a bourbon flight. Good with strong flavors. The old fashioned with maple syrup was outstanding. It was my first time here and welcomed in like you were walking into a friends house. Sat at the bar and Heather was personable and knowledgeable about the bourbons plus the vodka's and gin. She even was nice enough to be creative with my suggestions of a drink with the Michigan Cherry bourbon which turned out really good. I was able to taste the cherry yet it wasn't overpowering. Perfect ! Ambiance was so easy and down to earth I I told my husband we should get Smokehouse 52 to go and eat there because the other people having cocktails were friendly as well. A great local distillery in downtown Chelsea. Rob, the owner, was so welcoming. He came over to greet us and fill us in on the backstory of the distillery-very cool. Lindsay Dahl, a local Chelsea artist, did all the awesome paintings in the bar, and they are also for sale. I had a chocolate martini made with their peanut butter bourbon. It came with a mini Reese's peanut butter cup as garnish. OMG! I will be dreaming of that cocktail. It was sooooo good. read more

Loads of growth, and finding their stride makes UD a proper hangout. The drinks are updated periodically and the staff is really great! Surprisingly chill for a Friday night. The music is the right volume to still chat with friends. The drinks are excellent. I had the Uptown Bite that was added to the menu today. This drink will bring me in, in the future. I ask them to make it hot and less sweet. It's perfect. Food trucks visit and outside food is welcome. We ordered from Cleary's. It's a short walk to a slew of restaurants. The live music is hit or miss. Really like the contemporary vibe with and jazz trio tonight. Craft cocktails will cost you but they are good. Support local. read more

Yes, Yes, Yes! To everything about the new tasting room. My husband and I ventured in there last night after a long day and were met by the Manager, Rob who immediately grabbed us a table. Rob shared the menu which showcased multiple specialty cocktails including the Bloody Mary (made with their own Bacon Vodka) my husband ordered and a Tiramisutini (limited cocktail for the cities weekend event) that I ordered. Both priced under $10. Drinks were brought over to us by Sierra who not only explained what the heck these beautiful concoctions were but also inquired on our interest in a tour of the Distillery. We were blown away not only by the well crafted and delicious cocktails but by how awesome and spot-on this team appears to be. Needless to say, we'll be back very, VERY soon. Fun place! Rob does a great job thinking up new ideas. To-go adult beverages got a lot of people thru COVID and now that Chelsea has a "social district" you can still get your drink-of-choice to go and walk Main Street. We had our tried and true Moscow Mule and also tried the Mango Tango : tasty and ... strong ;) They need to order more swag ... but if that's any indication of popularity, I'd say things are going well. read more

We've been to this location a handful of times since they moved to this building in Chelsea, and every time we leave unimpressed. The drinks are expensive. The cheapest drink is $8, and anything specialty is $10 and up. I am not a drink snob so I may not be the target audience, but I have found that some of the concoctions are absolutely awful. On several occasions, multiple members of our party have left drinks untouched because they were so bad. Also, most of the drinks have an egregious amount of ice in a small glass- so for $10 you're getting only a few ounces of liquid. The ambiance and service also leaves something to be desired. On our last visit, one of the bartenders was taking a rowdy group into the back for impromptu tours which, 1. Made us feel like we were trespassing on a private party, and 2. Left one bartender to manage the busy bar. It took over 20 minutes for the poor guy to get to us, and he was clearly flustered. The seats at the bar also meant we were faced with gnats flying all around, which is understandable for the amount of sweet stuff that was open, but still gross. This place has an awesome building and location, but seems to be geared toward a snooty AA crowd, rather than Chelsea locals. read more

Trendy place - drinks are expensive, but made with that local mixology magic. The setting is super cool - in the old town movie theater converted to a distillery. For the local COVID19 pandemic they actually converted everything to making hand sanatizer and are providing it to local people, and first-responders free of charge! Super cool. read more

The library hosted a fantastic event featuring a Mardi Gras band which was SO FUN! The space had plenty of seating, we sat near the front door so the music wasn't too loud. Hurricanes were appropriately served and were perfectly tart and tasty. There is no kitchen but a partnership with local Jets allows for easy food and drink ordering. We were interested in sampling the gin, which was a high proof (if you're lookign for that). Very pleased with the service, manager came to our table a few times and invited us to another event on Saturday. Hospitality is high priority here. read more

This is a cool place. I am not a Vodka drinker so my one star rating is not for their product - all the friends and family that we give Ugly Dog vodka to say it is one of the best they have had. We are leaving town shortly to visit family - and have an order for several bottles of bacon flavored Vodka - they love it. My one star rating is for two things - a website that doesn't list hours they are open - and a phone that isn't answered when you call to find out what their hours are - not even an answering machine that says - "Sorry we couldn't take your call - our business hours are XX to XX - please leave a message and we will call you back". When family was last here we told them about the place and they wanted to stop and shop. But, they live West of us - Ugly Dog is east of us. We called multiple times and all the phone did was ring. With no idea of when they were open, they went out of their way and found the place open. They wondered why no one answered the phone when called but didn't ask. This wasn't the first time this happened - and it happened again today. So while I understand the Vodka is first rate, to again not answer the phone or have hours on their website - or on Yelp - is a simple thing that should have been taken care of long ago. read more

Wow! What a find! This is the real deal- American made vodka by a real person and it actually tastes great! Just enough bite to know you're drinking something, but there's no burn and no crappy liquor hangover- not without effort mind you. The gentleman who was behind the counter was a real doll and clearly obsessed with his product. I'm looking forward to having a real conversation with him next time I stop in. I'm a former employee, who was fired because they suspected I had Corona Virus. I was sent home, I tested and had the results within 72 hours. After I texted the manager Rob Mida, that I was negative, I was told via email not text, that I would receive the new schedule in a few days. This was commonplace, usually we didn't know what, if any hours we were working until the shift ended the day before. After 2 weeks I emailed him again asking when I would be put on the schedule. No response. Still no response. David Salmon, the main owner and CEO, treated the employees like garbage. He wouldn't even acknowledge us, at all. Another owner stalked me on FB and complained about my address. Rob Mida the manager told me first during my interview that I was overqualified and they were looking for a front of the house manager, then they needed new bartenders, then help handing out hand sanitizer, none of it panned out. They used us very hardworking people to bottle their booze and sanitizer. Which they claimed was free to the community, but made thousands of $$$ in daily donations, and were shipping it all over for $$$. They were making a huge profit. Also, bottling booze when the governor shut us down, I'm pretty sure that was illegal. If any of this bothers you, don't waste your time! They get annoyed when the phone rings, and refuse to answer calls and their hours change daily. read more

FUN adventure! Dewey was kind enough to give a tour to our family to celebrate a 93rd birthday! Thoroughly enjoyed the stories and tour, and bought plenty of vodka and gin to take home for ourselves and gifts. Since then we have discovered that our local specialty store carries only the Ugly Dog Vodka and Bacon Vodka. If you want the other flavors, you'd better stock up at the distillery.
