Came here with the Fam Jam for a birthday celebration during the Oilers NHL Playoffs. It's wasn't terribly busy, but wasn't empty either. Service here is almost always top notch. Servers are trained to always ask if you'd like to elevate your meal, whether it's making it a double, adding extra protein or that side of gravy that your fries crave. Consistency across the board. Bonus points that they tend to know that menu cover to cover! The food is what you'd typically get from a corporate kitchen. Again, consistency. It's great if you're a creature of habit, not so much if you like trying new things. I'm the former... So I usually get one of 2 things when I'm there. Bowing my head in shame here. They never disappoint! Where Brown's fell short this visit was not having the volume on the game!!! Made me want to finish my meal and get outta there. Maybe it changes the ambiance and they are hoping to not attract a certain crowd (this is Oil Country, I get it), but it was disappointing and certainly didn't make me want to stay. We just recently visited this location for the first time last weekend! We had such wonderful service, I wish I remembered our waitress's name, but she was lovely! I ordered the fried egg & bacon sandwich with the home fries, it was so dang good!! We don't normally order dessert as we always too full, but my son who is 5 wanted dessert! We ended up sharing the Oreo jar, omgggg! That was the best thing I've ever tasted & next time I won't be sharing LOL! I can't wait for nicer weather to sit on their patio with a few drinks & some appetizers!! I should also mention, the most beautiful bathroom I've been in!! read more

West Henday Browns supports a large demographic pop who have totally adopted this joint's acceptability in terms of whoever, & whatever. I've come to love this Brown's locale and the amazing people who serve, clean, and converse with the patrons like myself. I love this joint for all the friends I've met, for all the friends I haven't yet met, and for the simple kindness and compassion elicited from staff, chefs, and whoever may walk through the door.... I came with a group of girlfriends to celebrate a birthday. It was great when I called a few days before to find out they take reservations which seems to be rare at most restaurants for a Friday night. I made a reservation for 5:30 and was told they don't get busy until 6ish. We arrived a little after 5:30 and found most of the tables were occupied so I'm glad we made a reservation. The seating was comfortable as it was a half booth, and half chairs and I sat on a chair facing the window and there was a TV above me with the hockey game on. They opened the blinds while we were there so that lightened the place up a little. Our server came to take our drink orders and my friend asked about a happy hour they have for $4 for the Social Soda which she saw on their website. The server did that d'uh uh, no we don't have that, even though I checked it on the website and it's says Monday-Friday from 3-6PM. Always great with the staff don't know the specials and give you a look that they think you're making it up. After ordering our meals, we had a chance to catch up. It gets noisy in here but not as bad as shout in each others' ears noisy. It didn't seem to take long before the food arrived at our table. I ordered the blackened fish burger for $18 and it came with fries as all their burgers do (you can change to a salad, yam fries, or poutine for extra). The halibut was seasoned well and was a great combo with the coleslaw. My friends also seemed to enjoy their burgers, fish and chips, steak sandwich, and rice bowl. This new location just opened up in Lewis Estates by the Shopper's Drug Mart. I was expecting it to be packed due to all the cars in the parking lot. We walked in and I was surprised to see the "outside" eating area so nice. There were about ten tables with a few customers seated there but also had a beautiful couch and pillows so customers waiting would be very comfortable. The only thing about this "outside" area is that it's not really outside. People must walk through this area to reach the inside of the restaurant to ask for a table. We were lucky that there were a few empty tables so we got seated right away. The menu offers a wide variety so there's something for everyone. I love the burger and fries but this time I had the chicken tacos. For $11.00 they gave me two large warm soft tacos with salsa. I didn't go for the taco combo which would have come with black beans and rice. My friend had the dragon rice bowl with chicken, she loved the coconut rice it came with. We shared the brownie with ice cream for dessert and asked for it on two plates. It was huge and very delicious. I think this may be my new favourite restaurant! Our server was great, refilled our water as she walked by even though the jug was on the table. I will definitely be back to this location. read more

Disappointing. We took my mother out for Mother's Day and even though not all the tables were filled, the service was very slow. I did notice A LOT of food being prepared for take out or delivery so that may be the reason for the slow service. The food was not consistent at all. My mother and I both ordered the same spicy, crunchy chicken sandwich. While hers was a fair sized portion, mine was almost half the size of the bun. My fries looked like they dumped in the burnt ends at first, then just put some fresh ones on top. My sister ordered Ahi Tuna Poke - it was a nice dish, but certainly not worth $19. I did tip our waitress fully as the food is out of her control as is the decision to put Skip the Dishes as a priority over eat in customers. I also explained my concerns to the manager on duty. I can't stop thinking about brunch! I love love a good brunch. I haven't been here for after brunch food, yet. I will. Promise. But for the brunch it was a good selection and mad tasty. I ordered the avocado toast with poached eggs. The eggs were done to perfection. Served with a little baby salad that was so good. A perfect pair! (I mean, that is why they put it on the menu as such). It was a good size portion. Coupled with a mimosa and finished with an alkie coffee (I can't remember what it was called) made for a perfect, mellow brunch. Our server was super nice and attentive. We have spent thousands of dollars at Brown's West Henday over the years and had great relationships with many mangers and staff. But then, a couple of months ago, my wife and I were at Brown's West Henday and I complained to Brady (the restaurant manager) because he was sending free shots of liquor to his already-drunk, foul-mouthed, loud, employee sitting at the bar (who was apparently either off-shift or on his day off). Then, when we went back this weekend, we were KICKED OUT of the restaurant! Apparently, my wife and I are now BANNED from the establishment because I had previously complained to the manger about the gong show at the bar. Unbelievable! The place has really gone downhill - Brown's needs to hire new staff that are more mature - and don't have drinking problems! Good riddance. read more

I've been here a couple of times now and it has been a very welcoming place. I have been to the other Browns in Windermere, in Grande Prairie, and even in Yorkton. It is always pleasant to go there to see the friendly staff and enjoy a pint of a Granville beer. For their food they have a great menu - their Dynamite Rolls are, well, dynamite! The main thing I have come here for is a beer after work with a friend. Since this location is along Henday it is quite convenient when I live in the south west and some friends live in the north west - nice middle point. The beers are always cold, the atmosphere is always friendly, and we can relax after the day and chat. Cheers! read more

Terrible service. My husband and sons pop was flat. We ask that we have fresh ones and our waitress said " well we tasted the pop it's fine so...fine" I had the seared tuna salad it tasted like a old bag of cole slaw with over cooked tuna. The boys had the chicken Caesar salad and the lettuce was wilted the chicken was burnt. The waitress didn't come back until we had to flag her down to pay the bill. We will never be back. read more

Browns has a great menu. I know this from eating at a couple Browns already. So we thought we would try this one for brunch. I was torn between a steak for brunch or the Chilli Lime Fish Sandwich. I decided nothing beats a steak and Ceaser for brunch. Then they tell me they are out of steak. Wtf! Out of steak! But the fish sandwich was decent. It wasn't amazballs but it was good. Met an old friend here before we went to a concert at the river Cree. Beer was good, but they could do with a better selection. I had a potato crusted halibut bowl. Fish was good, coconut almond rice was excellent. And the salad it came with was surprising and new. . Had beans and edamame peas in it. Other had fish tacos and pad Thai. . I like it here. The first time I was here I had serious sticker shock over the prices, they are definitely more than what you'd pay at a comparable fine casual type chain (Moxie's, Milestone's, etc) and I was seriously put off. With that being said, the food is really really good and if you order what's on special you are definitely getting your money's worth. The space definitely isn't very large inside so sometimes you have to wait a while for a table but that's par for the course in Edmonton (nobody cooks at home anymore! Everyone eats out all of the time!). Good aesthetic and fantastic bathrooms, I love them. Service has been great every time I've been, the servers are really pleasant and chatty and knowledgeable. I really like their sangria (pink is my favourite!) and social soda to drink and for food, you can't beat any of the flat breads. I'm really pleased to see more establishments going in on my end of town... I don't mind driving, but it's nice not to have to. If you want something different from OJ's be sure to come here. Plus if you have children I'm pretty sure that they allow minors, so that's a plus for you. read more

You lose two stars for a few reasons, I ate with my wife, and right behind me on the patio were a couple mouse traps....my wife hates mice, and I'm sure a lot of people do, maybe hide them a little better. Lose another star for the mediocre dinner menu, and I also watched an old lady use one of the cushions from the couch, to sit on because I imagine her hemroids were bothering her. Breakfast was great tho, if I could give them 5 stars it would be for their breakfast alone. Anyways they do have some good beers, and some great appys. Browns is a bit of a lunch time favourite for the people around my office (we're way out in the west), so I decided to check it out. The venue has a nice patio area - noted for the summer! It has a cool fire pit in the centre (gas powered). The restaurant area features your usual pub mix of booths, low and high tables. Decor is kind of a mix of brick work and leather - lush. In terms of menu it's sort of along the lines of the "other" gastropubs in town. Pizzas, salads, sandwiches, some Asian dishes. I went with a beef dip au jus, tasty! Great little neighborhood restaurant! The atmosphere is inviting, they have a patio with fireplaces, booths and high tables with stools. The staff is very attentive, they greet you as soon as you walk in the door. The food was great! I had the Beef Dip and my hubby had a Steak. Both were very tasty. My friend and I were running some errands today and happened to be on the west end so I suggested coming here for lunch - the reviews keep popping up on my Yelp feed and I've been curious to try it (why are all the locations on the outskirts of the city?). I really like the atmosphere - the beer garden is inviting, the interior is well decorated and sophisticated without being too fancy, and there are some tv's to keep score when sports are on, but they don't overwhelm the space. The menu was amazing - there were almost too many things to choose from. I really enjoyed the $5 social Lager - the beer was crisp and refreshing. My chicken sandwich was good, though spicier than anticipated (mostly because it wasn't indicated as being spicy at all...), though a giant mess. The fries were perfect, slightly crispy on the edges but kind of soft on the inside. My friend ordered the roast beef sandwich and it was perfect - honestly one of the best I've ever tried. They put the horseradish aioli ON the sandwich instead of as an extra dip - genius. What really turned me off was the service. Our server was friendly enough... when we saw him. I noticed our food come up on the counter a solid 5 minutes before it was ever brought to us (eventually by the bartender). The only napkins were the ones the cutlery was on - and given that we both had messy sandwiches I really could have used some more. I eventually had to steal some from the next table since our server never returned. They give you ketchup in portioned containers, which is fine, but I ran out and had to wait for a few minutes until I could ask for more (even though I foresaw the shortage at the beginning of the meal and would have asked immediately if anybody had come by to check on us). It was another 5 minute wait to pay when the bill arrived. Overall, while this might be somewhere I'd frequent if I lived in the area, between the crappy service and the steeper prices this isn't somewhere I'm going to go out of the way for. read more

My friend and I come here on a fairly regular basis and share an appie and some wine. The appie's were never anything to write about, the wine selections nice and the service was always friendly so I had nothing to critique or celebrate here so they would have gotten a mediocre three star review. Until... We actually went this week and had a meal. Holy crap, I love this place! This is going to sound crazy but this is about the best roast beef french dip I have ever had! My friend had the dynamite sushi rolls with cowboy salad and loved it too. I am so sad I could only finish half my meal and left my leftovers BEHIND! This is something I do on a regular basis (forget to take my leftovers), but in this case I was really disappointed! The service is always great and servers are super friendly, great staff! I deducted a star because I saw something really strange while I was at this "Socialhouse"... Minors!? I really don't want to hear that while I am at the bar/ pub/ socialhouse, and it ruined my experience a little. read more

We sat on the patio, music was a good volume, we could talk just fine. Waitress was great We ordered the calamari for a starter after seeing it mentioned in a few reviews. Unfortunately it was a sad disappointment. Ours was very very bland. The fish tacos were good. Big battered fish portions in each, good of that's what you like, thank goodness we shared! Being so close to home, this is one of our frequent haunts. The service and food are consistent and good. I do like that it's a "nicer" menu than a typical bar and has a variety of items to choose from. I can have wings and dry ribs, or I can have a poke bowl...it's a nice range of choices. I do have some favourites: try the gravy. I don't eat a lot of fries typically, but I will for this gravy. It's as though they took the gravy from NY Fries and KFC and mixed them together for this unique, addictive taste. Trust me. Also, the oreo cheesecake jar. It's super light and fluffy mousse-like deliciousness with cookie crumbs and a whole oreo to top it. So freaking good. I won't lie - I've gone for dinner and ordered just fries/gravy and dessert. Don't judge. Cheap house beers and wine ($5) and it's a good night. I also love their covered patio with huge heaters overhead so you can sit "outside" basically year round. read more

Had a really good experience at this Browns when my family went out for mother's day. The restaurant is very nice on the inside, it's similar to an Earls, Moxie's, Central etc. There's a lot of seating as well - everything from large tables that can seat a whole group of people to single seating at the bar. There were four of us and we were seated right away - it wasn't busy at all which meant the noise level was pretty good. Our waiter was attentative and nice, regardless of our mains taking a little long to arrive. We started with the calamari and chicken bites - both were great! I wouldn't say that there was anything spectacular or special about the calamari, it was exactly what you would expect. The chicken was very tasty and had a delicious sauce/chip topping but it was a little bit on the dry side. For me this wasn't a big deal because I'm whiter than white and can still enjoy a dry chicken, and frankly the crust and topping was so good it didn't really matter that much to me. Like I said our mains took a little longer than it should have to come out, but I enjoyed mine regardless! I ordered the chicken sandwhich with yam fries. Of course, the yam fries were super addictive, they were salty and cooked well. The chicken sandwich had a great flavor... But if you're looking for a big juicy piece of chicken you would be disappointed. The chicken was quite thin, about a fourth of an inch in width and again it was on the dry side. The flavor I think made up for it and honestly I was okay with my belt staying intact for once, considering it wasn't too too filling. I had the whole meal and felt full but not dead which is great for someone like myself who has no sense of control when Saturday hits. The bun I have to say as well was really good - I believe they use a 'potato bun' (don't come for me if I'm wrong, I might be making stuff up) because the bread was really soft and chewy which made the sandwhich way better. Overall I would probably come back here with a group of friends - it seems like a good place to bring a lot of people. I really wanted to like Browns...I was so excited to have a spot in my neighborhood within walking distance from my house, but I've been there now about 10 different times in the past couple of years and it's just way too inconsistent. The service has been great, terrible, and everything in-between. I've had knowledgeable staff who could answer my questions about the menu, and staff who had no idea what was going on. The food is ok, but I have yet to find something on the menu that's my "go-to". The Nachos are good for sharing, and the wings are tasty. My husband really likes the Dragon Bowl, and the potato crusted cod is quite good too. I wouldn't suggest the fish tacos, I found that they tasted very fishy. As for their brunch, don't even get me started on the brunch...I had the eggs benedict and my husband got the waffles, both were incredibly underwhelming and not a great value considering the cost vs. quality of food you are being served. The waffle came out cold and rock hard, and the hollandaise sauce on my benedict tasted like mayonnaise. Fortunately for Browns, there isn't much competition in the area. I've visited Browns Socialhouse a few times. The food is okay, a little over priced for what you get and overall taste is okay. Anyways yesterday I went with a couple friends and was VERY disappointed with our service and our food. To begin with our server had a bit of an attitude to begin with. She seemed bothered by having to serve us and overall had a bad attitude. She never once came to ask us how we were enjoying our food. Anyways I had ordered a full order of nachos to share with my boyfriend. I was thinking a full order should be pretty big and we should be able to split it no problem. It was the saddest full order of nachos I have ever ordered. I had to ask the server if the plate that she had given me was really a full order.. It was. The plate was not that big and there was minimal cheese on the nachos. Big fail on the nachos. Won't be ordering that ever again. Our friends just wanted to order dessert and ended up ordering the Oreo Cheescake Jar (I can't quite remember the name) It looked delicious and our friend said that it was great! Our other friend had ordered a key lime pie and was very disappointed when he received a tiny (I'm not exaggerating) slice of pie. He finished it in about 3 bites. He said it was good but way too small for $7. Overall our experience was meh. For what you're paying you might as well go somewhere else. The portions are too small, the food is ok. If I was able to rate 0 stars, I would. I have been a regular visitor to this establishment. However given the disrespect, and total negligence tonight, I will never return. Was initially advised a 15-20 minute wait; entirely understandable given a Friday night, and a popular sports game on. What was not understandable was waiting 20 minutes to even get a drink order in while waiting for our table. When I touched base with the hostess for an update, was advised they called my name multiple times. Which was nothing but a bold faced lie. Having worked in the service industry, I believe I have a profound understanding for what servers must deal with on a day to day basis, however lying to a customer, and providing no viable solutions does nothing but consolidates poor business practice. Thanks for NOTHING. I will be advising any and all friends and acquaintances to avoid this establishment if at all possible. That being said; I work a sales position and often take respective clients for lunches and dinners here. Never again. read more

Our first visit with a party of four. Very slow service and dirty glasses of water to begin our lunch. Our orders were simple.. 2 salads, one chicken sandwich and one pizza. We waited approximately 30 minutes for our food. Once it arrived the portions were very small for the price of the item ( $16.95 for the salad) The salads had very few mixed greens and mostly contained the prepackaged iceberg lettuce and grated carrot. The taste reflected the poor quality. The chicken sandwich and fries were so over salted they were not finished. However my friend did enjoy her pizza. We even spoke to the manager offering our suggestions to the newly opened restaurant. We quickly stated our concerns and we were quickly dismissed as well. We stated we did intend to pay for our lunch but only wanted to comment on the service and the quality of the food. How disappointing we went unheard. Came with a friend for a mom night out. Sat on the patio. Nice area lots of space outside and inside. Came around 8 pm. Normal selection of pub food and price same as everywhere else. My friend and liked it as we actually got to speak to each other without screaming over music. The waitress was great kept toping off our drinks. The location was great for both of us to get too. Plenty of parking. If you do plan to sit outside please put mostquito repellant on. I had plenty of bites when I left. read more
