My wife's and I loved our visit to Origins. From the moment you walk into this (semi) outdoor eatery, you're surrounded by plants. To my wife's delight, we were seated next to a fountain. It was a beautiful and relaxing atmosphere. The meals were equally as pleasing. The menu features local ingredients. Lots of alternatives for vegetarians and meat eaters. We tried the burrito bowl. It was awesome, flavorful and presented beautifully. The hummus is fresh and made daily. (We were told it differs a bit every day based on what they have in the kitchen.) My soup was clearly made from scratch. You could taste a variety of flavors. This is probably not the place to go for a quick bite. I usually don't write reviews anymore as most places have plenty, but in this instance I felt compelled to rave about just how wonderful our experience was. To keep it short: whatever you do in the area, do not miss this place. Firstly, this is the most gorgeous location I have ever had lunch at period. We sat outside in the garden surrounded by beautiful flowers, butterflies, and birds. It was just picturesque. The inside looks like something out of a Disney movie. The love that goes into the grounds is just stunning. Our server was extremely pleasant, knowledgeable, and top notch. The food... woah. I seriously did not expect such a flavorful spread and such reasonable prices. The homemade hummus plate is killer and has a wonderful selection of veggies. The bread? Awesome. Weirdos welcome and yes I am that weirdo. If you ever watched Grandmas Boy when they went to that vegan restaurant, this is the same. Food amazing and worth any wait you endure. While I was on line waiting, I asked the person behind me for recommendations as they were talking and mentioned they come here alot. They said get the Quiche and the chicken salad. My go-to place in the summer and early fall, Origins serves dishes with ingredients grown by local farmers, all in a beautifully decorated atmosphere. The service is warm and friendly. It can get a little busy at times, so be patient. This used to be Cooperstown's best kept secret, but it has grown over the years and we knew people would eventually catch wind of this place. Their mushroom soup, mushroom ragout, vegetable tacos, enchiladas, and French toast have all been to die for. Origins is a food truck parked at a greenhouse, the meeting of the natural world before it appears on a plate, and afterwards. The vibe is ethereal and zen, with a true forest of plants surrounding you, spiritual indian music playing over the speakers, while dining on fresh and local foods. I had the sweet potato black bean chili with a iced chai tea and was very pleased. A side of vegan gluten free bread was the icing on top. I'm glad I've been on a quest to find vegan food, because this place is amazing! I'm convinced this cafe is built within a greenhouse, there are plants and beautiful gardens galore- I felt at home, for sure. Upon entering the building, we were greeted by signs of the Equinox Festival with what would be happening and a "Please Wait to be Seated" sign. Our wait time was less than two minutes, even though the place was bustling! My partner and I were pleased to see there were different options for me, although limited. The weekly menu informs there are vegan options/substitutes available for some of the drinks and food upon request. My partner had the breakfast burrito and I had the sesame soba noodles- neither of us regret our decision. I, also, appreciate our cheery waitress helping me make my decision! I'm eager to try the lemon dill hummus sometime soon, but today's adventure gave me inspiration in my own kitchen!! My partner said he'd definitely trying it again, too!! We were only in town for 2 days and I researched the best place in Cooperstown to eat and this place came up on several lists - they only serve dinner two nights a week and we were so lucky to get a reservation (necessary) for a Friday night - they have live music and their menu options were extraordinary! You feel like you are in a magical wonderland, surrounded by fairy lights and gorgeous plants - plus it felt very airy with several openings to the outside so it was definitely covid safe but covered - which helped since it rained for a bit while we were there. I cannot recommend it enough - our teens were awed, everyone ate all their food, from apps to dessert...breathtaking! read more

This is by far the best place in Cooperstown, at least for lunch. It's a greenhouse that becomes a cafe in the summer. It was started about 11 years ago by the 2 daughters of the founders of the greenhouse business, and has obviously grown tremendously since its start in a little trailer that sits in front. One of the owners was the hostess the day we were there. Great food, exotic atmosphere, friendly staff. Wish we had discovered it on an earlier visit tothe area. Cooperstown is otherwise dominated by pizza and burgers, so this is a welcome alternative. read more

First...the surroundings: Bohemia meets Marrakesh, meets lush greenhouse. We gypsies felt immediately at home in this colorful paradise. Second, the food: so many brilliant choices: we settled for beet soup, braised ribs on polenta, and sesame upon noodles with root veggies. All were as light as air, except for the juicy, rich ribs. Our server was as fresh and sweet as the edible flowers on our plates. Unfortunately, we had to cut and run to a local play and skipped dessert. I loved this place! Colorful tables are tucked into lush foliage - flowers, fruit trees, succulents. It's such a beautiful and relaxed space! I started with a specialty mimosa - this one had orange, grapefruit, sage and vanilla - delicious! For lunch I had the chicken salad on organic greens - this was a generous portion vibrant with color and garnished with edible flowers. Little details like that - a single sage leaf topping the mimosa, the tiny bonsai on the table - convey the care and pride they take in their menu and ingredients. So, the service was subpar and I'm pretty sure they forgot about our order because people that came in after us are and left before we even saw food. However, the raspberry lemonade was refreshing. The gazpacho was the best I have ever had (and I've had a lot). The goat cheese panini was outstanding. And our second panini was not the one we ordered (realized after) but it was delicious too. They both had apples so we didn't put it together until after! I've been waiting a year to try their food and it didn't disappoint. I could do with better service. Went in for lunch on a rainy day, so the place was pretty empty. The interior of the greenhouse really does make you feel like you're in a garden. Light music in the background, and the place is not overly loud, such makes it a great place to actually have a conversation with a friend. I had a panini and it was delicious... We had a spectacular evening at Origins. It is kind of a magical place. Part garden/plant-seller/horticultural center, part organic cafe and restaurant with all locally-sourced ingredients, part musical performance center, and more recently, part education provider for area young people. (Middle schoolers were apparently in on making our amazing and delicious pizzas.) It's a family-run place that has a strong sense of purpose and that conveys itself in a lot of ways -- from the care going into the food (and its presentation), to the design of the open-air cafe and the garden seating outside, to the really personal service given by the family and other staffers. We had a wonderful time. The menu is limited but everything was delicious. We were there on one of their music nights and the atmosphere inside (and the music) was fantastic. Lots of space, lots of plants, lots of airiness. The beer list is impressive. They have clearly thought long and hard about how they do things. Highly recommended. read more

My sister and I hosted my daughter's bridal shower here yesterday. What a beautiful setting! Being surrounded by beautiful flowers made the day that much more special. We had our own section of the greenhouse that gave a very intimate party amidst a very busy Mother's Day weekend. We opted for the brunch and the food was amazing. 11/10. What a little Cooperstown gem!!! My mom and I have been traveling quite often to Cooperstown to visit family for years, and we just discovered this place. I so wish we found it sooner! I got the portobello panini and goat cheese salad to split with my mom. It was phenomenal. So fresh and flavorful. Got the raw key lime pie for dessert and was so surprised by how much I loved it. It has avocados and cashews but tasted just like the real deal.
