This is a polish restaurant and it was actually delicious food. We came in on Super Bowl Sunday and it was kind of dead but they had a huge projector playing the game. The vibe was fun and relaxed and the service was really good too. I definitely recommend trying this place out for a weekend dinner or just a quick meal to pick up and take home. They actually charged me for "water" and "ice" our waters which was just tap water from the fountain and ice from the bin was $3 and $1.50.... We really enjoyed our family dinner at Orion. The Polish food including stuffed cabbage, pork cutlets and pierogis was freshly prepared and promptly served by these hard working ladies. Orion's provides a classic Polish experience, starting with old men drinking brandy at 2 pm in the front bar room, fresh roses on the tables in the back dining room complete with cloth table clothes, and club music throughout. Lots of dumplings and cutlets! Excellent presentation of the food, and remember to ask for tap or still water if you don't want sparkling! Located across from a plasma blood center, Orion is unassuming from the exterior. But inside, it is delightful! The Pierogi (stuffed pasta) was moist, tender, and explosive with flavor--in my case, potato and cabbage-mushroom. The Zbojinicki (Pork Cutlet) is as worthy as an Iowa pork fritter! Crispy and bursting with tenderloin flavor. The sides of red cabbage and cucumber were as fresh as could be with excellent texture. Truly refreshing and complimentary to the pork. I ran to this place on Tuesday night. At first it seemed like a dive bar. As I made my way past the bar I was surprised to see a real nice environment. My server she happen to be polish very nice, Service oriented and eager to help. She recommended a Hungarian dish (beef cake). Kind of like potato pancakes layered with beef stew. Best thing ive ever had. The stew was tasty and the beef was very tender. For the side she recommended the beets that was just perfect. As a life-long resident of Garfield Ridge, I can't believe it took me so long to realize this wasn't just a bar. This is the BEST Polish food I've ever eaten in my life! Everything we ordered was beyond delicious. We had the Colossal Pork Cutlet (as big as a catcher's mitt!), Golabki, Placek Po Wegiersku (tender, beef stew sandwiched between 2 scrumptious potato cakes) and a mix of cheese/potato and meat pierogi. Don't forget the super-fresh sides: finely shredded carrots, beets, sauerkraut and coleslaw. The beets are the best, but all of them are delectable. The staff is friendly and helpful as are the bar patrons, who I chatted with while picking up my to-go order. Orion is a neighborhood gem that I'll be visiting on a regular basis. For my entree I ordered the Hungarian Beef Cake, which is a beef stew sandwiched between two crispy potato pancakes. Delicious!! I would recommend this entree served with sour cream. No desert selections, however the Blintzes would be fantastic served with a fruit topping(if it was available). Maybe next time. I thought Id take my mother in law here after searching for Polish food on a sad night for our family while we waited on news of my father in law passing away after a long illness. When we arrived we were greeted by serval men drinking and our waitress whom barely spoke English told us about the specials and waited on us promptly. I really wanted a drink and didn't know if any other place was still open so 'the dude abides'. Thought that wasn't right though. Second, the bartender didn't understand "where's your bathroom?" had to repeat a few times. She also didn't understand "jack and coke', had to also repeat a few times. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal at Orion. Great service, reasonable prices, and most importantly, delicious food. Everything made from scratch. I was there with three friends, and we all loved it. I had beet soup with Polish egg rolls for appetizer, and bigos as the main course. We shared blueberry pierogies, too. Our waitress was very attentive to us as well. The native language there is Polish and that is what they will speak to you in until you tell them English. Great food! The food was good. My problem is when we got the bill we were charged $12 for 4 waters of which 2 were refills. I questioned it and was told that they charge for water and that it is in the menu. My sister then asked to see the menu again. It says they charge $3 for seltzer or tonic water but we didn't order either, we got plain tap water with ice. I pointed that out to her and she said they charge for that too. I told her that's not what the menu said. She started to tell us that her earlier years were spent in Poland and they charge for any kind of water there. I pointed out to her that we were not in Poland and that again that the menu and nowhere in the restaurant does it say that they charge for tap water. So I asked to speak to her manager. After spending a month in Garfiled Ridge. I can give some reviews on a few places. Orion is a large facility and you wouldn't think so from the outside. A group of friends and I arrived on a Friday night, A cover charge??? Who does that? The decor is very dim, looks more like a rave in a basement, drinks are clearly watered down, cheap tasting. Apparently they only take credit cards from "regulars"., never heard of such a thing. Music was supremely loud and overwhelming. Majority of people were men, wasn't sure if it was a gay bar or men's night only, plus the odor in this club is herendous, if it is going to remain majority of men perhaps they should wear some deodarant, that being the reason there were hardly any women. We arrived *hungry* at Midway airport after a long day of holiday traveling, lost luggage and delays. Not wanting to pay $12 for a sad little airport Caesar salad, we did a quick search for restaurants nearby and found Orion Bar and Grill. The reviews were good, and we noticed they had some Polish food on the menu too, so we decided to give it a try. My husband is Polish and has pretty high standards when it comes to Polish food, so I wasn't sure this gamble was going to pay off. So glad we stopped by! Our waitress Kasha could not have been nicer. She told us all about the specials and helped us customize our order so we got exactly what we wanted. We had the barley and potato soup which was delicious! When Kasha described it as a creamy soup, I was concerned it would be heavy and thick like chowder but it was just right, and so flavorful! We also had some excellent pierogi, several kinds but the sauerkraut was hands down the best (I know, but really it was delicious). Washed it all down with some Zywiec and then finished off with a dash of cytronouwka. We left with full bellies and renewed spirit. Will definitely go back!
