    Pierogi, chicken schnitzel
    Eva A.

Visited Chicago from Boston, which doesn't have many (if any) Eastern European restaurants so I was very excited to come for dinner and I was not disappointed. The food is delicious and reminds me of home... probably some of the best food I had on my trip! You can split the pierogi half/half, but savory+savory or sweet+sweet, not savory+sweet. We got the potato and cheese (which were filled with more of a ricotta than potato) and mushroom. We also got the chicken schnitzel (3 giant pieces of chicken over heavenly mashed potatoes) don't underestimate the portion sizes here! However, the beet soup with dumplings disappointed me a little, it was just a beet broth with dough-heavy dumplings. I thought it would be more of a borscht. Also, the interior is cozy, the place doesn't try too hard to be extra aesthetic which I love. Would recommend and would return!

Absolutely five stars! We stopped by here for a quick lunch after getting some groceries from the Polish supermarket. The food was incredibly authentic and comforting from start to finish. We had the cheese and potato pierogis, Żurek, pickle soup, and the goulash with potato pancakes, and every single dish was packed full of rich, homemade flavor. The goulash and potato pancakes were so good that we honestly wished they gave more than two. Our waitress was amazing as well, super friendly, attentive, and genuinely helpful. The portions were generous, everything arrived hot and fresh, and you can tell a lot of care goes into every recipe. It felt like a true home cooked meal in the best way. We left full, happy, and we're already planning our next visit. Also side note - We've also ordered their food through DoorDash, and it was just as delicious. Some places lose quality when delivered, but not this one, everything still tasted fresh, authentic, and full of flavor.

My goal is to try 50 new Chicago restaurants in 2025! Restaurant: 24/50 Month tried: April Favorite dish: zucchini pancakes, pierogis The food here is fantastic. My dietary restrictions don't mix well with Polish food because I don't eat pork or beef, but I had the vegetarian platter and could not have been happier. The zucchini pancakes were delightful. We came on Easter Sunday and not sure if that's the reason why, but service was absurdly slow. It took like 45 minutes to get a cup of soup, and another 30 after that for our meals. So I would come back, if I have the time and am not too hungry to wait!

Food: borsch, beef stroganoff with potato dumplings, and meat stuffed cabbage. The borsch was savory with some texture provided by the cabbage and bits of soft potato. The beef stroganoff had generous servings of beef with pillowy-slightly chewy potato dumplings (reminiscent of gnocchi). The meat stuffer cabbage stole the show. Deliciously seasoned sauce/broth atop perfectly tender meat stuffed cabbages. Service was pretty quick and accurate. Ambiance was pretty and cozy. Definitely try it out! I will be returning!

Thank you to Staropolska for accommodating our large 20 person group last night! They graciously set us up in the private room (absolutely gorgeous) and brought in high chairs for the kids in the group. Our waitress was absolutely fantastic and attentive with our group. I highly appreciate you letting me practice my polish with you as well! She suggested that we order the family dinner for those who could in order to ensure timely meals. The family dinner was amazing and at $31/person it's a steal for the amount of food and a good variety of different Polish dishes. We have a few people who are vegetarian and they loved their veg dishes. Some of the children had dairy allergies and our waitress helped with suggesting what would be safe for them to eat. We continue to have large friend gatherings at staropolska throughout the years and it does not disappoint. Thank you for your incredible hospitality.

Great polish spot. We had potato pancakes, zucchini pancakes, kielbasa and pierogi. Everything was delicious and we can't wait to come back.

Best polish restaurant in Chicago which is saying something. The staff is 100% polish and would rather not speak English but can speak it perfectly. Food is home style, nothing to flashy but healthy, filling, and delicious. The interior is a rustic old world European feel with huge VIP tables for big gatherings and there's a nice bar. Stuffed cabbage is highly recommended as well as the Borscht

Delicious traditional Polish food. My favorite item is the sauerkraut and mushroom pierogis. Cute interior and great service too.

Ok have to let out a breath because I am so stuffed! So I brought a good friend (from Poland- Rzeszów) here to enjoy some polish cuisine. The pierogi were very tasty and packed with meat. The pork tenderloin with the mushroom sauce was amazing and I could actually cut with my fork. My friend said this is just like it is in Poland and she enjoyed all the dishes. So as she said it's polish approved. The amount of food for the price is a good value. This is a very traditional restaurant, so warm and inviting.

Man this place is so homey I love it. I'm born and raised on the south side so I've been eating polish food practically my entire life. The food is absolutely delicious and so authentic. The Hunters Stew was so warming and rich, and the meal for 2 was the perfect amount of food. The server was as attentive as they could be. My recommendation is that if you're going to have 1 person serving, bussing, bartending, and food running, you should at least have a manager present on the floor to support when it gets busy. Our server was lovely but we waited way too long to get served, I went and got my own water. Would absolutely come back with my family though the food was that good.

Had a wonderful date night while visiting Chicago! We have no polish restaurants in Indy and are always looking for great polish food. The best pierogis we've ever had! We ordered the Sweet Cheese pierogis and kielbasa with pickles and onions. The best meal and cutest restaurant! Also, incredible cocktails!

Good value sampler plate for two seemed enough for three. Rye soup was savory. Lively and crowded with a diverse clientele.

Do they do a lunch buffet? Is this the same restaurant that was on Belmont near Central a few years ago?

This Staropolska has no affiliation with the Staropolska on Belmont/Central. That restaurant just happened to have the same name as this one. That restaurant has now been closed for a few years. This Staropolska is a sit down restaurant and does not…

When I arrived, there was only one other table dining, which made it GREAT for me. It's a decent size hall with 10+ table arrangements, making it pretty great for a group to enjoy their lunch. It also featured a couple of kiosks for ordering, which I thought was a bit easy to miss, since it was tucked away in the left corner when you walked in. It looked like there was also a cashier available to take orders, if you miss the kiosks. I've seen places where they simply do not have anyone at the register to take orders, but that wasn't the case for Lotus. Before deciding to visit them today, I had an impression that their menu choices were very limited compared to other Vietnamese restaurants I was used to. I'm certainly not complaining, since I'm usually a huge fan of select "specialty" approach in restaurants. That's why I decided to order one of their Bahn mi, where I normally would have chosen pho for my first visit. And it didn't disappoint. First off, the size of the sandwich was good. I've had it where they charged a buck or two less, but they weren't big enough to be a full "lunch" portion. Lotus' size, I thought was decent. I had ordered one of their cha gios just in case the sandwich failed to fill me, but I think I would have been okay without it. Cha gio was super good tho! Oh, and the iced V-coffee was good, too. Typically, they'll bring out the coffee before your meal is ready, probably because they're ready-made in the morning and all you'd need to do is pour them over ice. I of course, have known legitimate mom n' pop places, where they'll actually bring out coffee as it's brewing in Phin (stainless steel coffee filter) and a glass of ice with condensed milk, so you can wait for the coffee to finish brewing and pour yourself one, which is what I *always* prefer. Not here, but no big deal. You can usually tell how good the food is going to be by trying their iced coffee. Even though V-coffee isn't known for using "incredible" beans, the balance of the strength of coffee and condensed milk *does* make a big difference in your experience. I felt this place had it correct! I'll definitely come back myself and even bring coworkers or my family to have their Bahn mi again. What I'm not sure about is whether I want to try their pho or bun. First, they don't offer too many variations, so I'm stuck choosing from just a few. (For example, I usually go for "brisket-only" or a combo of brisket and rare steak, but they didn't seem to have those options. Granted, it's possible they'll make it happen if I asked) Secondly, I think they're a couple bucks more expensive than what I would like to pay for a bowl of pho. We'll see.

Then wiped his fingers on a dirty rag and proceeded to finish making the bowls. A short time later, we were served that same bowl of ramen. Watching an employee use their bare hands and mouth on food that was then served to a customer was extremely concerning and completely unacceptable from a food safety and hygiene standpoint. It ruined the experience and made us lose confidence in the restaurant's food handling practices. I hope management takes this seriously, retrains their staff on proper food safety procedures, and ensures this doesn't happen to anyone else.
