Had a pest control problem. Wasn't seeing progress in the treatments. Called their rep. Didn't call me back. Emailed him to call me. Replyed via email that he would call. Never did. I cancelled services. They sent their final bill. I asked if they were willing to make any kind of accomodation because of the fact that they didn't remediate the problem, not to mention not returning my calls. Receptionist said a manager would call me the following week. Nothing. Now a collection agency is calling me. A crappy way of doing business. read more

I'd give their service 0 stars if possible. I moved into a new place June 1st and today was my 5th exterminator. Upon arriving 30 minutes late and not removing or covering his shoes (we have a shoe free house) he proceeded to rudely explain to me how my problem is no long severe enough to spray the way I'd requested and he refused to spray. That's right after 2.5 months of struggling, 1 week of waiting, and my entire morning being wasted he refused to spray. Not only are they unprofessional but every time one of them comes they say something completely different than the last one and it seems that the place is only sprayed properly if the landlord is present. This place has been the worst experience of my renting history and at this point we're discussing subleasing because of their failure to eliminate the issue. Horrible customer service! They charged us over $1400 to install a mesh in the ground in the backyard to prevent rat burrowing. The sales guy and I discussed EXACTLY what I wanted to have done, and then the technicians showed up, a day later than they promised, and did NOT install the mesh the way I wanted. For weeks I've fought with management who tell me the mesh "was not intended to be installed that way," and that the "salesman was wrong." Why isn't the salesman educated on the right way to do things? Why can't they keep an appointment when promised? And, most importantly, why did they have to keep arguing with me? Eventually, they just left me additional mesh material and I installed it myself, the way I wanted it done. Guess what? It works! I have the opportunity to work from home on some days, but when I intentionally stay home because they promised to show up, then they don't, I can't work with them. Lousy service, too expensive, and instead of trying to please the customer, they'll argue with you about what you want to have done. Avoid these guys like the plague. read more

Called on Saturday and was given one price. On Monday they had changed it $100 more. They said they would look into why they quoted me two different prices and they never got back to me. This is not a company I will trust and the way they handled the situation was very unprofessional. Fond some one the do the job for $150 less then the first price they quoted. We got in touch with Orkin when we found out there were rats in our house. I thought i was contracting with a team of professionals but it turned out to be the complete opposite... First, Orkin is always late. They call you to say they will be there within 30 minutes and 2 hours later you are still waiting. Second, their representatives are not technology savy! Took 1 week for the inspector to send us a quote because he could not scan it or fax it so he had to ask his roommate to do it... Third, they are not HONEST at all. They tell you they will do one thing and then when you ask about it, it is not true anymore. The inspector said his team was going to fill all holes in our house (we have an old home with a crawl space) and had holes in the walls in the kitchen behind appliances. They were supposed to fix them, told us they would and my husband temporarily blocked holes with a big piece of wood so that rats would stop coming in. Inspector had told us that they would put metal as rats would eat the wood and that the work my husband did would be redone by their professionals. It turned out they said it was fine! And when i ask about it to their main office, they tell me that Orkin is not a team of carpenters! That they were not going to fill holes in my wall! Then why did i pay them $1500 for???? I have called the main number to talk with a manager about these issues and the complete lack of follow up. No one is calling me back. No one is coming to my house to check traps and make sure there are not rats anymore or at least activity is decreasing. And when i finally talk to the manager (after calling 3 times), he said that they came to the house but no one was there!! I guess they expect you to leave the door open or be at the house all the time waiting for them! Give me a call and i will be there!!! And Finally, i guess worst part! I sign a contract, and they charge my credit card without my authorization! I read it many times and it does not say anywhere that i authorize them to do anything. I have a contract with orkin to spray for bees. Every year I remind them to please bring a large extension ladder in order to spray the upper part of the house.Every year they fail to bring one.They came to spray last week,again without a ladder.The tech promised me that he would be back on sat. with the ladder.No show or no call. I am calling them as I write this review (1;20 in the afternoon) I have been on hold now for 19 minutes so I have plenty of time to type.I am sure that this company has some good people wanting to do a good job but they are unprofessional and disorganised,22 min and counting on hold. read more

Filled out the information needed for a Orkin rep to contact me. 24 hours later they did and I explained what was needed and the location of the bees. An Orkin person showed up and took video and pictures and said he would be getting back to me that a younger person would need to do this job as it was in an attic which I explained on the phone. The next day I received a call just to have the person tell me Orkin would not do this job due to the location. Website says no problem taking care of things like this and the person who I talked to on the phone said it would not be an issue. I have to echo the other things I'm reading here. I gave an extra star because the problem we had did seem to get better with their service. The reason they only get two stars is because of how miserably painful and awful their scheduling and customer service is. For each appointment, they would call and say, "We'll be there in 15 minutes." OK, well, um, apparently I had an appointment today?!?! No advanced warning, no scheduled appointments, no phone calls, nothing. They just expect you to be there when they decide they will be there. When you call back to schedule, they make you feel like an idiot that you have to "reschedule." Yeah, it's not a reschedule... It happened today (for the last time) and the woman literally hung up on me when I said I wasn't at home and couldn't accomodate HER schedule (ha!). She called back literally 4 times over the next 2 hours to tell me she'd be here on Wednesday morning. Again, what part of me being the client and you not being able to dictate to me when YOU are available do you not understand? I just called to cancel the service and I had to talk to a manager for some reason. He was douchebag, as expected, and told me that if I could "clue him in" to what was convenient for me, he could help. I said, "For starters, you could not say things like 'clue me in' and act like a professional" and then told him that their service is a disaster from top to bottom. i hired this company for my restaurant, to make the story short, when we opened the account they said that they will pay for any health department violations. i got fruit flies and they never took care of the problem. i had a problem with the NYHD. when i spoke with them on the phone they said : we never said that. no heart feeling i just don't recommend them professionally. they should stick with the bad bugs but not restaurants read more

Had a mouse problem and had Orkin come to "hopefully" rid me of this nasty 4-legged pest. The guy who came onsite was rude, and imo, very bad at what he was supposed to do. He basically sprayed 2 - 3 points around the exterior of my house, and put down 2 traps in my Kitchen. Said, be back in 3 months to check on the traps. I asked about the basement and he replied that "nah, their up here in the kitchen only". He never checked upstairs, downstairs bedrooms etc. Very bad service all round. Please be smart and use a different company. I live outside Chicago and will be trying Anderson pest control or similar next time. Also, be aware that if you sign up for 3 visits they will continue to come after that and charge your credit card "even though" you did not request it. This is in the fine print that you sign. The person on the phone was very unhelpful without a quote for a ball park range. Orkin guarantees a 30 day warranty for bedbugs, but states that the lifespan is over 300 days and that females come out to feed around every 60 days. I inquired about the method of treatments including types of chemicals and the spokesperson refused to answer without an inspection. When inquired about multiple visits, the spokesperson refused to answer. All in all, the spokesperson only wanted to schedule an inspection. Orkin will not treat or have any reasonable remediation actions for items in the infected areas. I would suggest to look elsewhere. read more

Had a great experience with Orkin. I suspected bedbugs and had scheduled another exterminator for one Saturday morning, who never showed up. I was distraught, called about 10 different companies before someone at Orkin finally answered. Not only were they able to send someone same-day on a Saturday, but the guy got here in less than an hour. AJ was very nice and professional, and he even lowered my bill by $100 because my apartment is smaller than the average studio. It has only been a few days, and only time will tell if the bugs are gone for good (there's nothing I can do if they're in the building). I would definitely call them again. read more

It started out great. The person in their call center was fabulous! Professional, knowledgeable and courteous. He provided a lot of information, set up the appontment and sent a follow up e-mail. Because of this rare fabulous customer service I didn't balk at the almost $1000 price tag for the cost of the treatment I needed. I left work early to be able to get home in time for my 4:30 appointment time. Arrived home and waited for the tech to call and say they were on their way. I waited and waited and waited. Then, they never showed up for my regularly scheduled appointment. After waiting an additional 15 days I called and requested service. Orkin then charged me for the service requested. The gist of this epic: This office is thoroughly unprofessional. From start to finish they offered sub-par service at best. A terrible service which cost me hundreds of dollars, endangered myself and my pets, and provided no resolution to my problem. Initial Contact: Like others, I had difficulty contacting this office to schedule the initial consultation. They do not seem to respond to email requests generated from the main Orkin website. They also do not return voice mail messages. The only way to get in touch with this office is to actually get someone on the phone. This would be practical, except that they do not always answer the phone. Initial Consult/Sale: The technician who arrived to initially consult me on my infestation (clothes moths) stated that all i needed was a 30 day service. I was told the 30 day service included unlimited visits; it did not. I was told that the treatments done during the 30 day service would be "more than enough" to solve my problem; they were not. Since using Orkin I have contacted other pest control companies who have stated that clothes moths are particularly difficult to get rid of and will require several months of treatments to eradicate. The Orkin initial consult said they would hang traps and that would deal with the problem once and for all. I kick myself for not doing the research earlier, but the manufacturers of the traps expressly state that the traps are for detection only. They are not designed to rid you of the problem, but rather be a barometer of sorts for how infested you are. I paid hundreds of dollars for 30 days of "unlimited" treatments to an outfit that misused their own tools (the traps). My 30 days of service came with the caveat that I had to wait 14 days between treatments. This means that unlimited really means two... two treatments. If the problem was a easily resolved as they said then this would not have been a big deal. This became a major problem when we discovered, after the first treatment, that the initial consultant made an error in diagnosis. Treatments - SAFETY ISSUES!!!!!!!: Here is where Orkin failed the worst of all. I am not bashing the mis-diagnosis error as we are all human. My ire stems from the Orkin office resisting, rather vehemently, coming back out to correct the mistake. Due to the diagnosis, we used a moth lure for a different species of moth and the traps were initially catching nothing at all. The traps used were for meal moths and not the clothes moths variety. Orkin wanted to burn 14 days, half of the service length, waiting to see if the wrong traps would work; they didn't. When finally convinced to return, the Orkin tech wanted to use a spray in addition to the traps. The tech wanted to fog my entire bedroom and closets with the spray. She advised that the spray was "non-toxic", "totally safe for people and animals", and "just smelled funny for a while". At this point, I did do my research and found on the manufacturers website that the product is toxic, is not safe for use on clothing or bedding, and that the "funny smell" is from a bittering agent used to deter ingestion by pets because the product is harmful to animals. The product, according to the manufacturer, is safe for use around pets when spot applied to cracks and crevices. When fogged into the air, the area is unsafe for 8 hours; I was advised it would be safe after 15 minutes. We ended up spot applying and continuing to trap as I did not have confidence in the competency or safety of the plan. Aftermath and (lack of) Resolution: Upset with being sold the wrong service, delivered a worthless service containing only one real treatment, and upset that my pets had almost been endangered, I called for the Orkin branch manager. My first calls were to try and speak to him about my lack of confidence in their plan to resolve my infestation. These calls went unreturned, though my technician insisted, numerous times, that she discussed my "meal moth infestation" with him. This was infuriating as, by this point, it had to be explained countless times that these were clothes moths. This late in the delivery of the service, and considering this was a previous mistake, I would expect something like this to be known. My second round of calls were to complain about the general worthlessness of the service. I was determined to speak with the manager and called three or four times in a single week to get a hold of him. The calls started on Monday and on Friday I finally received a call back. I was in a meeting at the time and had to ignore the call and let it go to voice mail. This was as close as I ever got to speaking with the manager. The voice mail he left was very cordial and extended an invitation to call him back. He did not include a call back number and a subsequent call to the office went unanswered. It would appear that their lack of professionalism was greater than my determination. read more

The Orkin Branch 557 in Toledo Ohio is Horrible. I have had them over 20 years, and I will agree they were great for the first 15 years, but boy they have gone down Hill. They spray 1 little room and want to charge you a crazy amount. Call, and the Manager is downright Mean. Called them to take care of mice in my basement, the technician came out and placed glue traps in the basement and bait traps outside the house. He showed me where they had chewed thru the garage door seal and said he would have someone contact me to get a replacement that was mouse proof. Well the mice moved upstairs where the cats and my family are even though he said they would stay away from us. So I ended up getting mouse bait on recommendation of Lowe's employee.They never contacted me about the garage seal even after three phone calls. And I signed up for continued pest control and after four months still had not seen a technician again. Terminix has given us much better service! read more

Carpenter Ant problem. Orkin quoted me $450 for the year. I asked them if they didn't get the ants the first time will they come back, she said they will come back as many times as needed for the year. Finally got the guy to come out who then proceeded to tell me it would cost "much, much more". Called head office and they back peddled saying that it would be a minimum of $450. Outrageous! I was not going to be held hostage by Orkin. Bunch of crooks. Even if I have to buy 200 cans of ant killer I will do it myself rather than be ripped off by Orkin! Buyer beware! read more

I called Orkin to give me a hand with a hornet's nest on the outside of my house. The salesperson explained that they would spray the nest, but they would not knock it down so as not to cause any damage to my house. That was no problem, until she started asking about the number of bedrooms and bathrooms in my house. I told her that the nest was outside and that her request about the inside of my house was making me uncomfortable with doing business with Orkin. She explained that she needed that information in order to pull up a rate card. I told her "no thanks" and that I would find another company to do business with. read more

I am unsure which Orkin location I was directed to, but the service I received speaks for them all. I called for an inspection and had a set appointment. About 15 minutes later the technician calls me back to say I was doubled booked and the earliest he could get to my home was was the next day. So they next day arrives and no technician shows up or calls at the scheduled time. I call back to find out what happened and the technician says I don't remember talking to you honestly and I have a note by your name for the next day not today. The one thing that buying the services from Orkin has taught me is to never buy into the commercials. I thought I would get professional quality service from orkin, but what i got was annoying phone representitives. I swear I would explain to them my pest situation and would give me a reference number for my case. WHenever I called back they would ask the same questions over and over again. Each time I called i would always get a different person. That was only part of the problem. When I finally made the payment the guy said that there would be an opening from 4-6....no one showed up. I was a new customer to Orkin and spent about 35 minutes on the phone talking to sales and it really sounded like a professional and organized company. NOT at ALL. Made an appointment and took off from work only for them not to even call or show up. All the non professional customer service could tell me is that someone can call me within 24 hours to see what happened. No supervisors available and no one that had a clue about my appointment. All they could tell me is that the person has until 7pm to show up, but it was already after 7pm when I called. They said they have no way to get in touch with them or know if they will show up. What kind of company is this. Needless to say no one showed up and I am still awaiting a phone call. I would not recommend them to anyone. Bad business and unprofessional... read more

The only time I saw the exterminator was the day I signed up. He would call and say he was in my drive way. I work and can't just leave my job. This happened 2 times. I was still billed and told that he sprayed the outside. The last time I asked if they could come back the next week when I would be home. I was told no. I told them not to come at all we were through. I still received a bill. I call the manager, but was told he was busy. He never returned my called. I call a couple days later he was on a conference call. He never called. I called the 800 number and asked to speak to someone above him. I was sent to him. He said let me call you from my desk. It has been an hour and no call. I wonder if my place has been treated since the first appointment. read more

We read good reviews and called Orkin because we were having what we thought was a bed bug problem. They came out the next day and did an inspection and confirmed that we did have a small problem. We scheduled an appointment for a few days later for them to come back and actually do the extermination. We have a baby in the house so we wanted to be sure that this was done right and wanted to go with a company that offered a guarantee on their work. We followed their instructions on how to prepare the room and they came and did it. A couple of nights later I and my baby move back into the bedroom but within a few days each one of us has a bite or two when we wake up. We called Orkin who said that they would schedule someone to come back up to redo the job. Finally, 3 days later (it had by then been a week since the initial extermination) a man calls up who says that he is scheduled to come out to our house but confirms that someone else had been here before to spray. My husband tells him that indeed someone had been here before but we are still having a problem. The man on the phone then became belligerent and tells my husband that he is not coming to our house, Orkin needs to call the original guy who has gotten paid for it already and then hung up on my husband. My husband who was a little bit in shock saw this man's phone number on caller ID and tried calling him back twice and left messages asking at the very least he give him the number of the original exterminator but those messages were never returned even after threat of calling him managers. We have now called Orkin twice to try to resolve the matter and noone has gotten back to us. This morning I found a dying bed bug crawling on the pillow next to where my 6 month old baby was sleeping. I am so angry and disappointed in this company for their lack of professionalism and follow through. read more

I would give half a star if that was possible. I called Orkin after I had tried unsuccessfully to get rid of mice in my home by setting traps and closing plumbing and electrical holes with copper wiring. Good points: They are very polite and professional on the phone. Bad point, they are very incompetent. My very first call, the customer service representative had a voice dripping with honey. She assured me the SEVERE MICE INFESTATION in my home will be a forgone issue once Orkin was on it. She told me they spray eco friendly repellents, do a perimeter inspection and take caer of both indoor and outdoor entry points. Then she scheduled my appointment from 12-2. By 3pm, no one showed up or called. When I called them back, I was informed the dispatch dept was unaware I had a scheduled appointment. At that point, I knew my experience with them will be sour. So they rescheduled for 3-5pm. And didn't show up till 5.45ish. And the exterminator they sent didn't spray anything to repel the mice as promised by the customer service rep when she gave me a breakdown of their services. Then after dumping alot of dead mice caught by the traps set, I called again. I asked for a thursday appt, the rep said someone from dispatch will call me to confirm. Nobody did call and an exterminator called me wednesday when he was in front of my house. He said my appt was scheduled for wednesday. That really pissed me off because I realised they were adding to my stress level in addition to already being stressed out by the mice situation. My mice saga continues and I'm trying to find a good company willing to get ride of them for good. All orkin did was set traps indoors, sprinkle poison and close up some holes. The mice are living in my walls and they did nothing to address that. Their proposed course of action was kill them once they are in but the reason I called them was how to stop the mice from coming in. After I filled their customer survey, one of the supervisors came but basically told me thesame thing, all Orkin does is set traps and sprinkle poison. They can't stop the mice from coming through the walls. Also, they push their 12months service subscription really hard. I was really angry and asked for a refund. He promised to refund my money. While my review is for the Elk Grove Village, IL location, it's still the same company. For the past 2 months I have been waking up with bites on my arms, legs, ankles, wrist. It was still mildly warm, so I passed it off as mosquito bites. Then.. It started to get cold... Mosquitoes are gone, still getting bit. So I went to my doctor. What the hell is going on with me, she goes, HIVES. Gives me medication to reduce the itch that "kinda sorta" helped. But still getting bit. Recently took in my sister's dog. Notice he was scratching, So then, BINGO it had to be flea bites. Paid 60 bucks to get him treated and went to a dermatologist for myself. Google'd exterminators for FLEAS, Orkin had a deal where they come out, inspect and if positively finding fleas, spray for FREE (ongoing service had a fee). Well no brainier, gave em a call. Explained the situation and told the rep I have fleas. Described the bites, she goes, "Oh no honey, those are bed bugs". I said no, I checked and how can you tell me what they are over the phone? Set up same day tech to come out. He calls, and cancels due to a "dentist appointment". Comes out the next day, and at first didn't see anything. Goes into the second bedroom and didn't see anything there. Goes BACK into the first bedroom (mine) and lo and behold he put his hand on the mattress to put it back down and and a baby one crawled on his hand. While I am still at the door of the room, he looks and says "Yep, you've got em". GOT WHAT???! Bed bugs. I think he pissed them off because out of the woodwork 2 adult ones and a few baby ones started to come out. He charges me $120 for a mattress and box spring cover only to see TWO more bed bugs ON TOP of his "so-called durable" covers. He quickly left after that sensing that i was going to tell him to take the covers off and give me back my $120. He proceeds to email me a contract for $1700 frickin dollars just to treat 2 bedrooms and a very small living room. My blood pressure dropped so quick i thought I was going to start seeing stars. I've NEVER dealt with a bug situation and almost positive one of my guest bought them into my home as I lived here 1.5 years in the same bed and never had any issues. I will be taking my business to Eco-Tech as they quoted me 890 for the same exact thing and it INCLUDES 2 follow up visits with a bunch more perks (free traps, additional preventive solutions). I feel like the guy was trying to lock me in because once i asked if I could get the cover cheaper at Wal-Mart, he said I could but it wont keep the bugs out and not to even think about going to get over the counter pesticides because the only thing that will work is Orkin chemicals. Maybe he thinks I'm Oprah Winfrey but I don't have $1700 to shell out when my rent is $1200 and due the day after the proposed service. Go someplace else, and not Terminix either. read more

Unbelievable! We called Orkin over the summer because of ants. The guy came and my husband signed up for a series of 3 appointments (1 every 60 days) where they come and spray. They charged our credit card and said we could continue after the 3 treatments or call and let them know we were finished after the initial 3 we signed up for. OK. So we just had the 3rd and final appointment and we now live out of the country, so my brother went to house to meet the guy. He said so this is the last time right?, and the guy said we'd have to call and cancel service. I called and was told we signed up for 7 appointments (no) and that they could not cancel but since we're out of the country they (begrudgingly) would. So, 2 things-1: We DID NOT sign up for 7 appointments! We knew we were moving out of the country! WTF would we do that? And 2: the guy (Phil) was SO rude on the phone. I was very nice and said that it could have been a mis-communication or something, and he still was unbelievably rude. The only reason I stayed polite was because he sounded like an old man. But we are pissed, and I understand that he was probably just trying to keep a customer, but he has definitely lost this one for life! read more

I was hoping to have a nationally recognized company service our home for pests. But after several calls and missed appointments for the initial inspection, I just dropped them all together and went local. Orkin took our information both contact and description of our issue and scheduled an inspection for the following day. The following day arrives and no one showed. After calling their office to question the matter, I was transferred to a representative who asked "again" to repeat what had happened. I gave them the order number but it didn't matter. She assured me the manager of the area would return my call in the morning and reschedule the appointment for that day. That day came and around 2 in the afternoon, I received no such call. So I called them. After inquiring about what the mishap was, I was then transferred to another representative who answered, "how may I help you?" I am sorry but I lost all faith in Orkin at that point. How do you transfer calls and not relay information? Communication is key to any business and if Orkin is such as renowned US company, they are failing at its most fundamental part. I had to re-explain my predicament along with all contact information....for the 5th time in two days. I would like to say I do not blame the representatives. I blame their call center managers, then their regional managers, then their corporate offices. Train. Train. And train again. Call center customer service was fine. But it breaks down after that and that can only be the responsibility of how they conduct themselves technically in terms of communication. Whether this be a hospital, mechanic, restaurant or pest control office, once you leave communication to the whims of daily operation and not instill some sort of concrete structure and policy, you're basically getting either no service, wrong medication, new transmission when you needed an oil change or fries instead of mashed potatoes.
