I've only ever been here once so maybe it was a lucky visit but all the food we ate was a cut above what we expected. I was in town for a work conference but had the evening off so I met a couple friends from high school for dinner. We started with drinks then split boneless chicken wings and got a few entrees including the brie and mushroom pizza, the pastrami sandwich, and the meatloaf. My drink - The Cure - was a mixture of light beer with ginger liquer and lime and some other stuff. My friend said it was like a 'manly sangria - a mangria!.' Well, manly or whatever, it was refreshing and tasty and suited this lady. The boneless chicken wings were awesome but really, when have I met boneless chicken wings I did not like? So there's that. The pastrami was good but won't be giving any famous Jewish delis a run for their money. The brie and wild mushroom pizza was delicious. And HUGE. It came as a long rectangular thing sliced into six flat portions. You'll be taking leftovers. The winner of the evening was probably the meatloaf which had this rich, spicy, tangy brown sauce and some crisp at the edges. I never thought meatloaf could be so flavorful. Definitely not most of the meatloaf I've ever tasted. We finished with the chocolate lava cake. Not a bite left. Mmm mmm good. Our server couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful in offering menu advice. Also, despite the karaoke going on at the other side of the bar, we could still hear each other just fine and we were kind of entertained. Maybe this place doesn't know if it's a restaurant or a sports bar, but that doesn't really matter. It had the casual ambiance of a sports bar but with the upgraded food of a restaurant. Decent perks from both worlds. Next time I'm in Boston, I'd plan to go back. read more

I thought Orleans would be a cute place for a date (hey candlelit tables), until the lounge areas by the window started to get really loud. If I was trying to set the "mood", it was definitely shattered. Not that I was trying to set the mood. I was out with a friend. Seriously. I was. The booths are kind of uncomfortable in proportion to the table. I felt like I had to lean in. Maybe it's my horrible hunchback posture.. maybe the tables are meant to be romantic and encourage leaning. I don't know. I love that their version of "bread on the table" is foccacia and hummus. Yum! Seeing the baked lobster mac and cheese on the menu and being the classy broad that I am.. of COURSE I ordered it. I was torn between that and the saltimboca, but I felt like having a chunk of cheese in my stomach was a good idea that night. Both dishes were in the $20+ range, so I was expecting some good eatin' either way. When my food came out, I was somewhat disappointed. It seemed as though they forgot the 'baked' part of the dish name and it was basically just pasta with mixed in veggies, bacon, and lobster. Don't get me wrong, it was delicious (and with nice sized pieces of lobster).. it just wasn't baked mac and cheese. Or at least the kind of stuff I'm used to. The service was great. The waiter gets brownie points for putting up with the table's ridiculous conversation and being dragged into an unwinnable argument. Beer selection was awesome. I really wanted to like Orleans - from all the things I'd heard about it, it was supposed to be a good place to go lounge and have some drinks and maybe a bite to eat. First, the food is crazy overpriced. If I had known it was going to be so overpriced and equally outrageously bland I would have gone to Anna's for a $6 burrito. Instead, I had the cobb salad and added chicken for $6. I clearly had missed the price to add chicken, as if I had known I would have passed. For $6 you might think it'd be worth it if it were the most flavorful and juicy and amazing chicken ever - and of course, it was not. I received an overcooked, dry as all get out piece of boneless, skinless chicken breast. (I've cooked better chicken at home...) The cocktail menu was intriguing and so I got myself one -- pineapple mojito. It was ok. It did come in a pint glass, which I approve of - but where's the alcohol? I'd like to taste some if I'm having a cocktail. (Though perhaps it was my own fault for getting the pineapple mojito...) In general, the service was so-so and the atmosphere while seemed chill and loungy was weird and uncomfortable. The booth we were sitting in was like a craftmatic adjustable bed gone wrong - shaped in such a way that my feet didn't touch the ground. Weird. Too bad, so sad. read more

I hit up the Orleans for Guitar Hero Night. Total blast. Even if you suck (errr, i mean just learning) it is pretty impressive to see some real masters go to work. I even was able to convince Boston Yelp Wrangler Ligaya T. to do a little Guitar duet with me. I believe we only made 20% through the song before it made us stop. Brilliant! The bar/restaurant itself is pretty nice. Big place actually. Couches are comfy. No idea what the scene is like on a normal night, but on Sunday's, John the Bartender serves up some great booze and is an all around good guy. read more

As soon as I stepped into Orleans, it hit me: more bars need couches. And not just any couches, NICE couches. The couches here add such a cozy, friendly, welcoming ambiance, and as a bonus, they don't look like they'll give you a communicable disease if you sit down on them, as is often the case with other bar couches (you know who you are, Our House West!). The ladies behind the bar were fast and friendly, and the booze was cheaper than I expected it to be. The standard drafts didn't blow me away but at least they had Smithwicks. My comrade had an orange mojito and some sort of blackberry cocktail which were both alright....I got the impression that in creating innovative drinks, Orleans just slightly crossed the line separating tasty from weird. An extra star for having cucumber vodka, which I will now be searching for high and low. Delicious with tonic! read more

Oddly enough, my relationship with Orleans resembles the relationship between Fred Savage's little brother and Topanga on "Boy Meets World". I've known Orleans since I first moved to Boston. We've had good times and bad times, but I know we will always be together. Orleans has changed over the years - adding flat screens, DJs, and outdoor seating. It's harder now to get a seat at the bar than it used to be, but Orleans still pours a good drink and rewards repeat customers. Yes, Orleans still hasn't entirely figured out who they are. I am OK with that - Orleans is still learning. Mr. Feeny would be proud. read more

If you're not looking to push your way into a crowded bar or restaurant in the heart of Davis Square, walk a few blocks north to Orleans, where it always feels a little more open and relaxed inside (maybe it's the layout of the dining area, maybe it's the lounge feel up front with the couch arrangement they have). The drinks here are usually top notch, though sometimes they go overboard with the puree and the frozen juice when they should be finding a place for more liquor (the blueberry martini, which had passionfruit puree, lacked any kick whatsoever). There's a good selection of beers on tap and in the bottle as well. As far as the food goes, it's always good. Our salmon was cooked to perfection, with a slightly char on the outside (which made it just crispy enough to be delicious) and nothing undercooked on the inside. Our request to not have it in the curry sauce was met by adding some sort of light wine reduction, which worked really well with the fish. I ordered the gnocci, which wasn't the greatest I've ever had, but it was very tasty (and there was plenty of it). The best part about Orleans is the atmosphere though. With a spacious dining area, a well-placed bar, and couches setup in the front for a more relaxed area, there's something for everyone. And when the weather is nice, the front windows open up to let in fresh air. If you live nearby, this would make a great regular haunt. And if you don't, it might be worth the trip anyway. read more

Orleans is a beautiful place to hangout or watch a game. It's spacious and modern looking and it looks like a place at which you'd never have an issue finding a seat. In part, though, that seems to be indicative of large problems. The food was good (I got the veggie burger) and the service was fine. The beer list also wasn't bad. I think where Orleans goes wrong, though, is that it seems unsure of what it wants to be -- call it an identity crisis. The crowd here seems to be "regulars" -- a mix of mid-20 and low 30-somethings -- but the menu doesn't cater much to the more casual patron. Prices are a bit to high for those just wanting to stop in and the presentation looks a bit like a place you'd expect to pay much more for (not in a good way). This place would be better suited sorting out what it wants to be -- a sports bar or a restaurant -- and then catering to that crowd a bit more purposefully. read more

The food deserves 3 stars but the staff brings it down to 1. So I give it a 2. I'll ask a simple question like; can I get it without green peppers? Or; can you recommend a wine to go with this? First I'm asked to repeat myself then I'm asked to explain myself; no I'm not allergic. I've gotten the wrong dish put in front of me then made to feel it was my fault for confusing the waitress. I've been served room temp white wine in a glass hot from the dishwasher. I'm not sure why I keep coming back. The last time I was there was 10/6/13. We had to sit in the bar area because of a MeetUp in the dining room. No biggie. I saw there were Oktoberfest specific appetizers on the specials so I asked if there was an Oktoberfest themed menu. The server stared at me, "sorry?" So I pointed to the word Oktoberfest on the menu "Are there more Oktoberfest items besides these?" She says to me "I'm sorry, I don't know what you're asking." She leaves to get another server who comes up to me offering to help. So, I break it down a little farther. I point to the word Oktoberfest and say; "you have the word Oktoberfest here and a few sorta German dishes. Are you offering any more Oktoberfest themed items?" Seriously, she just blinks at me. I finally got it out of her that the 3 items marked Oktoberfest were the only German specific items on the menu. Now, I knew the answer to the question the moment I asked but because I couldn't comprehend how I was being misunderstood I kept at it. Because it took 3 servers to finally take our drink order we'd been sitting there over 10 minutes without even water. We had to take silverware from another table coz we had none. We went to Orlean's for Trivia on Wednesday night. We'll be back because the trivia was fun and the prizes are certainly motivational ($750 if you can get 18/20 questions right!) However, we'll definitely plan to eat before showing up next time. None of us were totally hungry and the menu was a bit pricey, so the three of us opted to share Calimari and the Nachos with Chicken. Both seemed obvious choices, they are staples on a bar menu, how could they screw them up, right? The calimari was bland and chewy. It was served with marinara (also rather bland) and a lemon jalepeno sauce which was neither spicy or enticing. Now onto the nachos... I've been told I'm a bit OCD when it comes to making pizza and nachos, but seriously, a three year old could have made them more appetizing. I imagine the construction of the nachos went something like this: 1. Pile chips on plate. 2. Cover pile of chips with lots of cheese. 3. Bake 4. Pull out of oven. 5. (Imaging the mound of chips as a clock) Put a pile of tomatoes at 2 O'clock; a pile of onions at 4 O'clock; salsa at 6 o'clock; guacamole at 8 O'clock; jalepenos at 10 O'clock and huge blob of sour cream in the center at the top of Mount Nacho. 6. Serve. The results were less than inspiring. The top layer of chips had too much cheese, but none of the chips below that top layer had any cheese at all. Because the toppings were placed strategically around the pile of nachos, you had to work to have anything on your chip. Sprinkling each of the toppings across the entire plate would have been a great start at improving these less than awesome nachos, but even then I'm not sure it would have been worth it. We ordered through GurbHub & Orleans completely lived up to our expectations. My Impossible burger with onions, brie, arugula was absolutely amazing. Their cornbread was melt in your mouth. The Korean BBQ brussel sprouts were delicious. And my wife loved her caribbean chicken sandwich. We were incredibly happy with our meal and will definitely become return customers. read more

Ok, I am getting more critical in my Yelp-old-age...me and my friend came here just on a whim. I was not that impressed with the menu, none of the dishes really jumped out at me as something I would desperately want to try. I ended up having the Fried Statler Chicken and getting crab cakes. The crab cakes were good, but really kinda small - they made up for my disappointment by putting them on a pretty good salad. However, I was kinda shocked by the "fried" chicken. My friend said it best...it's "Shake n' Bake!" The dessert menu was not fantastic either, the only non-chocolatey thing was the creme brulee....It's definitely just a place for people to hang out and rave about the Red Sox game (they have the games projected on a big screen) - not really a place to rave about in terms of food. read more

(review dated 3/08): location is convenient; right by T (red line) or an easy drive. environs were good. there are high tables for cocktails and low tables for food. heard the glass doors open during warmer days. there's public parking along the street (but usually full), and a parking lot right across the restaurant (you'll see sign pointing you to turn left). even got a free spot inside the metered parking lot coz it's reserved for business parking only during weekday biz hours. had an 18-people dinner. service was alright, although i don't understand why we had to pay extra tip to wait longer for food. maybe it was just me starving. the bread is extra fluffy, while crust felt lightly crispy but not hard or stale. they have this yellowish bean sauce-like spread to go w/the bread too. pineapple mojito is excellent--you can even order w/less sugar. house sangria... not the best i've had. kinda on the sweet and syrupy side. quite cheesy w/that maraschino cherry inside and two wedges of orange and lime on the rim. how about some REAL fruit pieces? entree is excellent. my swordfish w/cous cous is cooked to perfection; fish not dry (soft and moist in most parts), although it tastes a bit "intense" where the charcoal grill marks are. portion is ok for a lady; men might need a side dish or something to fill up. saw the slabs of lamb someone ordered, it was like 2 persons' share! the shrimps in the angel hair pasta dish were big and cooked right; looking beautifully translucent there. that seafood pasta dish was visually overwhelming: mussels sticks out to build the entire outer "wall", while the inside of the bowl was stuffed with all kinds of things. price is reasonable, with drinks from $7 and entrees ranging from $16-23. dessert, however, can be skipped without much loss. those sad little mousse cakes... looks like the ones i can get for much cheaper at a chinese bakery. tried one anyways, that "thick" chocolate mousse cake didn't taste like anything at all. :) read more

I just went to Orleans to meet somebody from an online dating saite for a first date. So nerve wracking! I sat at the bar while I waited, and it felt very friendly and relaxing. Really nice bartender, too. I told her my date was a few minutes late (like 6 minutes, but hey, it's an excuse) and I was thinking of bolting. She suggested I wait a little longer because even if we didn't really connect, I might make a new friend. Good advice! It was the best date I've been on in ages, and Orleans was a really nice venue for it. We talked for a long time at the bar, then we went and sat down and had dinner. There were lots of tempting things on the menu. We split the shrimp in olive oil with hot peppers, really yummy! Then we also split the fish & chips, which was good, too. The fish & chips was probably a little less fattening than most because the fish was breaded with panko bread crumbs, rather than dipped in batter. It came with nice, not-too-thick fries, and a large serving of cole slaw. The waitress was very nice about us splitting both dishes, too. It was just right- just the right atmosphere, and just the right amount of food. They were starting karaoke when we left (after four hours!!) and that looked like fun, too. Seems like a nice, neighborhood-y place with extra good food. I would definitely come back! read more

I had a really good time here despite the prevalence of negative reviews. Yes the bar does have a bunch of wide screen TVs showing various sports games, but they are all bunched in the corner with the bar. The dining area is quite separate so it's not like the noise from the TVs ruined my meal or anything. I liked that it has those big windows that open up into the street too, so there was a breeze going. It felt like summer! Finally! I almost wish we could have sat on the cozy looking couches by the windows but I suppose it would have been hard to eat that way. Anyways, the food was good! No it's not a cheap place, but they have things on the menu for $10 like burgers and individual pizzas. The other dishes don't go much higher then $20 a plate so it's not super pricey. Also, for $20 I got a lot of food. I had the special of the day which was fettuccine with scallops, shrimp, and mussels in their "spicy" red sauce (which wasn't spicy at all though still good). They did not skimp on the seafood. I had a whole ring of mussels around my plate as well as a generous portion of the scallops and shrimp. Completely worth $20. For that much seafood, it probably would have cost much more somewhere else. It was also cooked well, as the scallops were tender and not overdone at all. No one else I was eating with had any complaints about the food either and everyone enjoyed themselves. I think this place deserves a shot, especially if you're looking for something a little more upscale in the area. read more

Yeah, I can see what some people were saying about this place. Russ and I decided to pass up our known-to-be-super-delicious breakfast at Alfrescos for a brunch burger at Orleans. We were seated right away (at around 12pm) which is freaking impossible next door at Johnny D's -- so that should have told us something. Then we didn't see our waitress for about 10 mintutes, then we had to watch another couple (or I did) Russ had his back to them paw each other after a night of more pawing, I'm sure. Then there were the Football loving boys haunting the bar -- and the couches which I thought were cool. There definitely is a weird lounge -- but sports -- wait no a lounge -- no still sports feel to this place. And, the food, well it's really not that great. I didn't even finish my burger but the fries were pretty simple at tasty -- but eh -- I'd rather pay $16.00 at Alfresco's than $32.00 at Orleans for slow service and mediocre food with an awkward atmosphere. read more

Just a few blocks over from the Davis T stop lies Orleans. Charming. Upscale. Savory. We were welcomed with a smile and friendly waitstaff. Lucy was certainly on top of her game. She brought us refills on our drinks just as we were done sipping our first ones. Attentive and quick. I appreciate that. Especially since we wanted to make it home in time for the series premier of 90210! I ordered the Pork Loin ala Saltimbocca, which was according to the menu: "Tender Scaloppini with Prosciutto, Mozzarella, and Fresh Sage In a Wild Mushroom White Wine Sauce With Sautéed Spinach and Roasted Red Bliss Potatoes" for $21. It was delightful. The pork was tender and the blend of ingredients complemented well. Orleans has certainly won a space in my heart. The atmosphere is just perfect. It's not pretentious but rather modestly furnished and elegant. Between the couches and the tables, it gives off an air similar to a coffeehouse/lounge. I'd be back for sure just to try out what looks like a soft plush couch. However, just to warn you, if you're short like me, there's a possibility you may end up playing footsies with your dining companion across the way because your feet can't touch the floor. Nicely multi-faceted and multi-purpose... I've come just for drinks and people watching at the bar, a comfy catch-up conversation and apps with a friend on the couches, and a lively group dinner in the main room. There's also the small but infinitely appreciated patio area that I've yet to venture out to. Unquestionably passed the mojito test, the glass was Tall-with-a-capital-T, chock full of fresh mint and limes, and not sickeningly sweet. The menu is a bit small and pretty generic for an American bistro sort of place. If you want to be adventurous, you'll have to look elsewhere but what it lacks in inventiveness it makes up for in reliability. Friendly and adept staff, pleasing atmosphere. Prices are about $2-3 more than I'd like to be paying in Somerville. read more

I went here for brunch this morning and I had a fine experience. They brought us toast and a corn muffin as our bread basket, with butter and only apple and grape jelly (that's negative points. Who eats grape jelly anyway?). But the muffin was good. I got eggs benedict, and my friend got challah bread French toast. They were both good - I would say they had a slightly more gourmet feel than normal French toast and eggs benedict. But I don't really think that justifies the $11 price tag for eggs and potatoes, you know? I think a lot of the appeal of coming to brunch here is getting the brunch cocktails. Otherwise it's definitely good, but outside my brunch budget. read more

I've been going to Orleans for a while now and have always been pretty happy with it. Like other reviewers have noted, it's weirdly stuck between an upscale place and a regular pubby bar on both food and drink selections, although it tends towards more upscale in terms of atmosphere, which is probably a good thing. I'd usually opt for their bar food over the upscale food, though - I think their pastas and steaks and stuff for $18-25 are worse, relatively speaking, than their $9-12 nachos, cuban sandwiches, and burgers. The staff have been really good every time I've been there - when I was there for my then-girlfriend's 21st birthday they gave not just her but all of our group a round on the house! Wild. More recently, I've been there for the patio (nice!) and a few evenings just to grab a beer or a cocktail. Good, solid place and a bit different than the rest of the places in Davis. read more

I've been here a few times now and have always been satisfied with my meal. I personally think their menu items are either too expensive or incredibly dull, so I always order their specials. My first time here was with a few friends. I ordered a pork chop from their dinner specials. I was impressed! It was a little tough, but the flavor was there and the price was decent. The pork chop was served over a bed of asparagus and a side of the most incredible polenta I've ever had in my life. Seriously. Try. The. Polenta. It's incomparable and delectably buttery. My friend ordered a soup and gnocchi combo, which were both delicious. Their housemade butternut squash soup was a hit at our table and I couldn't stop stealing spoonfuls of it. Worth mentioning is that if you have a big party, make reservations! My classmates and I failed to do so. We had about 25 people come in around 2 on a weekday. Aaaand turns out there was only one waiter. Oops! Definitely our mistake, but he reaaaally emphasized that large parties need to call in advance. Major props to him for constantly refilling our waters without us having to ask! Their lunch specials are pretty good. They offer 10 items for $10. Their sandwich specials also come with your choice of fries, salad or soup. My friend and I shared the California Tuna Melt and the Carne Asada Burrito. We both LOVED the tuna melt, which had perfectly toasted bread, a good portion of delicious tuna, and a kick from the pepperjack cheese. It paired perfectly with my side of tomato soup. You should know that it's not creamy. It's housemade and really hit the spot. We'd pass on the burrito next time though. Aside from the carne asada, the burrito was incredibly bland. It's rolled with rice, avocado, and pepperjack. The rice tasted a lot like basmati rice...which tasted really odd in a burrito. This burrito also doesn't come with tomato or salsa. I personally think this missing ingredient would make the burrito taste a whole lotta betta. Overall, I'd only come back for convenience. But I do want to try their $1 oysters and 50 cent wings! read more

I couldn't really decide between three or four stars....so I figured I'd go with the nicer one (that's my charity for the week...). I go through phases where I either spend a lot of time here, or I go months without even thinking about it. The food is good, as long as you stick to the brunch or bar menu (for entrees in this price range, just keep on walking towards Gargoyles). The arugula pizza is crave-able, and their brunch is my favorite in the Davis area. I've always had good experiences with the drinks here, but that may be because they tend to be on the strong side, and I may have drinking problem.... That being said, the waitstaff is painfully bad. And yet, they are all really nice and sweet. So I end up feeling bad that I am annoyed that they are being sooooo slow. And then I get annoyed that I feel bad about their lack of motivation. Which explains why I then stay away for a few months. It's a vicious cycle. read more

I went here last night to watch the first Pats preseason game because I really have had it with J Tree. I can't stand that place anymore, it's so annoying. It was actually a refreshing change of pace being on the other side of Davis. That being said, I don't understand why the bar is so small. We lucked out and got there just in time to snag the last 4 chairs but within an hour or so it was packed and everyone was there to see the game and were watching our seats like vultures, frustrating. It's kinda cool that they have live music. The guy who was on last night wasn't bad, just louder than I was hoping for and not the right musical backdrop for the Pats. In terms of food I only had nachos, which were decent - nothing really out of the norm. My friends had burgers and wings and they didn't complain, so I'm assuming they too were decent. The bartenders seemed friendly enough and didn't take long at all to get our drinks. I love the fact that they have such large and open windows; I'm looking forward to coming back here soonish and hopefully snagging a seat by the windows while trying out more of the menu. read more

I've been back a couple times. They do dollar oysters on Mondays and 30 cent wings on Thursdays - both awesome deals. The grilled cheese is great, as are the fried pickles. I celebrated my birthday here last year. Kind of a sex in the cityesque deal, three girls taking the cocktail menu by storm. Orleans Cosmo, Chocolate Coconut Martini, Totally Peach Martini, Mocha Martini, 24 Karate Martini, Mango Mojito, and Dark and Stormy ... no stone unturned. I liked the set up of the place, couches in one area, defined dining area and bar area, with a spot right up front for live music. So, about that live music... This guy was playing guitar and had a little backup with another guitar? I'm not sure, but the sound system was either jacked up or it was not good to begin with. Either way we tried to move further away so that we could enjoy our evening - didn't happen. In fact I'm pretty sure the music got louder and more distorted as the night went on. The wait staff was a little slower than I would have hoped and we had just missed the time of the year where they take over Comcast's parking lot and have outdoor seating (just last month I saw them start an actual patio, kudos Orleans!) which was a shame, cause as awkward as it was to walk outside and smoke a cigarette, the music was much more pleasant from the street. I would go back, cause the drinks were decent... I would like to try the food. read more

I usually come here with pretty large crowds. It doesn't take too long to get seated and the dim light is good for my vampiric sensibilities. I did get carded once, but in their defense, Illinois licenses do look a tad basement-made. I'd recommend the pot stickers and the white/dark mousse with vanilla ice cream. Not necessarily together, but if your stomach can take it, then by all means. The Neopolitan pizza isn't my style, on the thin side, burnt bottom, you know the kind - but they do have amazing pancakes. Since I live in Davis I frequently end up at Orleans. Is it the best food ever? No, but it's not bad either. The decor is cute (I actually love the green/blue paint colors that they use). They have some booths and couches too. So it's a pretty comfortable place. This is a great place to come for some food and drinks with friends. It's pretty fun at night and they have a DJ playing music Friday nights. Sundays during football season they have the game on and have a nice big tv and some other small ones. In the nice weather they also have an outdoor patio which is great for some drinks and a meal with friends. UPDATE: I had to update my review and rate this place higher because of the fantastic service I got here Friday night. Our waitress was awesome. We sat outside on the patio and she totally didn't rush us. We took our time ordering - and then I asked for an item they had just taken off the menu.. she checked with the chef and they could still make it! I was so happy and appreciative that she went out of her way to find out about that. I would have been happy to order something else, but I was really craving their BBQ potato pizza and was sad to see it off the menu. Then when we were done eating but wanted to have some more drinks inside (it was chilly by now) - she found us a table inside! Orleans is truly deserving of three point five stars. . .however, since it has something that makes my little heart go pitter-pat, I'm bumping it up to four. Orleans seems to be going for an electro-lounge kinda feel. . but when they're playing "the game" on massive TVs or having Rock Band (or is it guitar hero) competitions, or having live horns play jazz music throughout the bar, I can't quite tell. With that out of the way, the staff is generally friendly enough, though I find the servers to be nicer than the bartenders. What really set this place apart in my mind is their (ready for it. .the ultimate WTF when it comes to identity) Irish breakfast. Yes, Orleans the furthest thing from an Irish Pub in all the known world has a rather awesome Irish breakfast. Second best in the city, actually (druid is the best in my NTLBFHO). With it generous portions of black and white puddings, perfectly done eggs, and mushrooms (?? not really traditional Irish breakfast fare, but tasty). This is the plate that keeps me coming back. If you're in Davis, and lookin for an Irish breakfast skip the Burren and head down here. You'll be happy you did. read more

Orleans has identity issues. Is it a sports bar? A live music bar? A date spot? Instead of doing a good job at any one of those specialties, Orleans chooses to be barely passable at all three. The food was better than a sports bar, but only slightly. The prices on the menu suggest you're getting something better than that. It's date night prices, but not date night quality. None of the food was necessarily bad, but it wasn't good either. Mashed potatoes were clearly from a mix. The broccoli tasted like it had been in the freezer too long. The porcini mushroom glaze on the steak was their saving grace. I would not bring a date here. While at the restaurant, the sports bar was playing generic rock tunes, then about halfway through the meal a live musician starts tuning up and playing. It took until his second song for the restaurant to go turn off the overhead sports bar music, which at the time was playing the best song it had managed for the night: Come On Eileen. The live musician exclusively played covers of 90s rock tunes. So before the restaurant had turned off the overhead music, it sounded like a Battle of the Bands in my high school. Verdict: Not impressed. Overpriced. Not going back. read more

Walking by so stopped in. Started off great and got a seat as there was lots of space. But then it too forever for the food to come and then a long time to get the check. And the burger I had was nothing special and had burnt back. It is a sports bar and the price is OK, but overall just OK so only 3 stars. Lots of choices around. read more

The other night was the third or fourth time I'd been to Orleans, and it's like ordering the Mac and Cheese at Boston Market - I hate it, but I get it every time. And every time, I'm disappointed. It looks so swanky and hip, but once you step in, much less look at the menu, I get the sense that Orleans is simply the place that's trying too hard to be hip enough for the hipsters, gourmet enough for the foodies, and casual enough for the townies. Why the 2 stars? Well, the food, while it might look impressive, is a bit overpriced for what they're offering. I also went there recently for a trivia night. The fact that our team just got hosed wasn't so bad- honestly, it was the trivia master. Zero personality (well, if one-too-many-shirt-buttons-unbuttoned-douchebag is a personality, then that guy's all set). Also, I'm all for fresh food. I'd rather have food just out of the fryer than sitting on the pass under heat lamps. But we ordered spring rolls that had *literally* just been dropped onto our plate from the fryer, to the point where I actually burned my thumb pretty bad picking it up to eat it. The times we've been there, our waiter/ress was either non-existent, or over-attentive to the point of annoyance. There was no middle ground with service. Pizza is good. Nachos are hit or miss. Cocktails- average priced? (If I'm going for cocktails I'm going to Diva Lounge usually anyway.) In all, I left this last time like I've left every time: underwhelmed and disappointed. read more

I like Orleans. It has a nice laid back atmosphere. Subdued lighting, kind of classy without being too posh and sterile like a hotel bar, not too crowded (depending on when you go), lively but not overpowering. Although I (unfortunately as of yet) wouldn't know about this, it seems like a great late nite place to take someone you've been seeing a few times, and want to seal the deal on a budding relationship over one last drink in the candlelight. They even have some nice comfy couches you can make yourself comfortable on with your sweet-on, if you can manage to garner a seat on one. But with that said, it's only getting 3 stars because it seems like every other time I order a draught beer, it's flat. Not just the obscure stuff that probably sits in the keg for a month, but the fast moving stuff like Sam Adams and Harpoon IPA. Flat and lackluster. It's kind of a shame, because the food is good (I usually get the Asian dumplings). Go to Orleans, but if you're a beer drinker, get a bottle. And stay away from the pizza, because it's unimpressive. read more
