We ordered the cucumber appetizer which was so refreshing for a starter. It came out with a basket of fresh bread and butter. We chose the soups instead of the salad since we had the cucumbers. My husband had the white clam chowder and I had the cabbage soup which reminded me of a family recipe I love. We both had lamb for the main course. This place is outstanding. We drive through every year on our way back from Montana. The rib eye is the best we ever had. Tried the chicken fried steak this time as well. Wow has the rib eye and it's awesome. We pick up the food to go, staff is very friendly and make sure we are happy with our food. The place looks like a cool place to eat. We live 6 hours from town and I have considered driving there just to eat at Ormacheas. read more

The place we normally go to was closed on Sunday, and I must say that turned out splendid for us. We found this place. It will now be our go to place on our travels across the country on I-80. The food, the service and the ambiance were exceptional. The lamb was amazing, although too much garlic for me, but my brother in law would have been in heaven. My husband ordered the steak, again delicious and cooked to perfection medium rare. The salad with the beans were excellent and tasty. The Picon fabulous. We ordered the temperillo for the main meal. The dessert was right up there for my husband, home made triple chocolate cake with ice cream on the side, he loved it. I got the flan. We shall be back. What an interesting surprise to find fancy basque options in Winnemucca! Service was very attentive, although they seemed quite busy - perhaps understaffed tonight. Cheese chorizo plate delicious, cabbage soup tasty and halibut good - plentiful - could be a share plate. Husband loved the lamb chops. As a local, I have seen this restaurant through its many owners in the past few years. . Original ormacheas was great, until it changed hands. . Then it was Bakarra and the food was hit or miss - Bre, Jake and their crew have flipped this place upside down in the best way possible. It is back to it's original name, the menu is small but wonderful, the food is fantastic and best of all - it's consistent. I've had the filet once every two weeks for the last two months and it's phenomenal. . The house red wine is soooo good, the chocolate cake is my favorite (and homemade.) Yes the salad is just lettuce with dressing, but it's a traditional style. If you know you know. . (Put your beans on top.) We normally dine in on Fridays so I'll only say that the clam chowder is great as well as the house cabbage soup. Their bartenders kick ass too. . Great bar, great people and fun atmosphere. But, In my opinion, you should remove the parmesan encrusted halibut from the menu; it is not good. I would like to see a menu overhaul. read more

The service was great, which brought it up to a 3. Unfortunately the food was just mediocre. The sauce on the $30 chicken/asparagus dish tasted like canned "Cream of Something" soup. For the outrageous prices, the sauces should have been handcrafted. The other chicken pasta dish was lukewarm and had an extremely bland, benign flavor. On the other hand, the soup was tasty and the salad was okay. Putting the beans on top added some pizazz, which was good since it was just overdressed lettuce. The bread...well, couldn't taste it.
