I came here to try a new stylist, Natalia. I'm very particular about only seeing stylist who know how to work with curly hair. Luckily, I found Natalia and she was so kind and sweet. I let her know that I was looking for a new hairstylist that I can see 2-3x a year. I also mentioned how important transparency is when discussing cost, because of bad experiences I've had in the past. She made me feel very comfortable in this conversation and said she also prioritizes transparent communication with customers. She gave me a solid color to remove my balayage and I love the way it turned out. It's been a couple of months and I'm still happy with how the color turned out. I usually have a good experience here. The color looked great but I was very clear that's I wanted my hair an inch below my chin. Suddenly my hair was an inch above my chin and I was holding back tears as I left. Worst cut I've ever gotten. I started going to ORO Duboce after a recommendation from a friend. I don't get my hair cut as often as I should, so when I do I try my best to book with Eden at ORO. She's kind and friendly and I'm always at ease with her here - and, of course, I've always loved the results! (The only mini inconvenience I've experienced is that I usually have to book way in advance since she seems to be quite busy/popular with clients.) Location-wise, ORO is easy to get to since there's a MUNI stop right outside. I had been in touch with someone because I wanted to get my bangs trimmed and I just stopped getting responses even after following up plus sending them an email (which I never got a response to.) I needed it done before my birthday dinner so I just booked the earliest appointment I could find and it was through a "barber cut" which was supposed to be for 30 minutes. To me, it made the most sense at the time. On the day of my appointment, I had to help with a medical emergency which altered my schedule. I texted the salon at 1:48 (appointment was at 2) letting them know I was running late. I get a response at 2:13 saying that they had an appointment at 2:30, "I can take you at 3 while my color is processing". I was already inches away from the door when I saw this and thought about just turning back, accept getting charged, and call it a day. But since I was already there I thought, if they can't do it maybe this is my sign to just trim it myself but went in anyways. When I got there, the hairdresser by the name Camille attended to me and I apologized for being late. The vibe I got was not good at all, she even said "you're SO late" in such a condescending tone. She was talking to me from at least 6 feet away so the other 3 people salon were basically just hearing this. She walks over to the counter and I explained to her how I had issues with the text only service and that I didn't know what service was appropriate to book for my bangs since again, no one ever texted me back. She said she can take me at 3pm after she applies her clients hair color and okay, I get that I was late but why was the 2:30 appointment attended to first even after I had already communicated I was going to be late. (It still wasn't 2:30 at the time.) Because I felt bad for being late and also of how I was treated, I said I'll wait. A few minutes later, she then comes over to me and says she can do it now since her other client is not in a rush. I just need a trim, that's it. I showed her a photo of Dakota Johnson's bangs and she started cutting away. I was shocked because she didn't even wet my bangs and by how much hair she was cutting. I eventually had told her that the length is good enough just so she can stop. It felt like I was being punished for being late because how can someone look at the end product and think that this is a good job. The texture was so bad. I looked like a child that decided to play with some scissors. While I was paying she then gives me a whole lecture of what to do next time and to keep texting even if I don't get a response. How was I supposed to know that if I can't even get a response in the first place? It was my birthday and I felt so horrible. I am humiliated AND my bangs looked so horrible I had to "fix" it while crashing out at home. I can't believe I paid $36 for this experience. My bangs will grow back eventually, but that attitude was so unnecessary and unprofessional. read more

She's has given me the most beautiful blonde highlights and a perfect color correction from a butchering at a different salon. If you show her a picture of what you want, she will do exactly that! She is absolutely worth every penny and the most amazing hairstylist in the Bay Area (trust me I've been getting my hair highlighted since I'm 13 and I've had a lot of experience in many many different salons). It's honestly a little embarrassing how long overdue this review is! I've been seeing Brittany Pilgrim for my balayages for the past 2+ years and it's been the best thing I've done for my hair. Before Brittany I hadn't found a regular stylist in San Francisco, but after my first session with Brittany I knew I would be a regular. I really appreciate the attention to detail that she has - she's thorough and meticulous, making sure that she nails not only what you're looking for, but gives you feedback to ensure that you get what's going to look good on you. She's super concerned with the health of your hair as well and will give recommendations and make modifications to keep it as healthy as possible. Knowing the texture of my hair and how I struggle with it she also turned me onto keratin treatments, which have been a total game changer. The ORO Salon itself is super cute and the Muni train stops literally right outside so getting to appointments is a breeze. On the day I had scheduled my appointment at Oro my son ended up being home sick from school and I was the only one who could take care of him. I contacted Oro to let them know I could not make my appointment and they charged me $300 the full service amount! No sympathy for the fact that I had no choice and could not leave my sick 8 year old at home alone!!! So disappointing. Needless to say I will never be going here again. I LOVE ORO, period! Pre Covid, I followed Sophia from Grasshoppers to ORO and loved her and she did wonders with scissors! Then Covid hit! Shutdown! Sophia moved to Hawaii. I cried and cried! Then salons were allowed to open this fall. I needed a long awaited haircut but didn't give up on ORO. I knew they would have other haircut/style scissor masters! I checked out the stylists on their great website. When I read Lee's bio, something just clicked. I liked what I read. Well as you know, going to a new stylist is a bit scary. When Lee met me at their door, I knew I was in good hands. He was very friendly, has a lot of soul, very sweet AND I loved his whole look. He put me at ease and worked the scissors like a genius! I'm very disappointed with my hair and the service I received during my first appointment at Oro Salon. Firstly, my stylist was running behind and I was seen 40 minutes later than scheduled. I understand this happens sometimes and wasn't upset about it since they texted to let me know about 30 minutes before my appointment. However, once I was seen and my hair was cut, she did not take the time to blow dry and style it. I assume she did this to save time since she was running behind and her next client had already arrived. But honestly, walking out of this very nice salon with wet hair after paying over $120 plus tip was really frustrating. Especially since I saw her previous client walk out with dry and beautifully styled hair. The cut itself is also not great. The bangs are much shorter than I wanted, the face framing is uneven, and the overall length is shorter than we discussed. Hair grows back and money returns but this whole experience ruined my day and I left the salon holding in tears. read more

Phenomenal salon! I can't recommend Sophia Mangin enough, she is absolutely amazing!! I have very fine, thin hair and was starting to notice that it couldn't grow past my shoulders without breaking. I love having long hair so I wasn't sure what to do / what my options were. Oro has a free 15-min consultation, so I signed up to get a professional to help me assess my options. I've been to several stylists at many salons in SF (including Population & B Parlor) and Sophia was the first to ever give me totally honest, helpful feedback about my hair, its limitations, and my options. With Sophia's guidance, I decided that tape-in (i.e., non-damaging) extensions were my best option to keep my long hair yet still cut off all the dead, dry, damaged ends. I was super hesitant about extensions at first, but Sophia walked me through the whole process and now I absolutely LOVE them. I've had them for 8 weeks now and don't even feel them in. Sophia did an incredible job blending the color with my natural & dyed hair; literally no one notices that I have extensions and I get compliments all the time. She also gave very fair and reasonable pricing for the super high quality work! Beyond doing a great job with putting my extensions in, Sophia has taken a genuine investment in my hair. I had an appointment for men's haircut with deep conditioning, and i got a fabulous haircut. Given it was my first time at this salon, I got lucky with my stylist. Their services is not worth the cost. I walked out of the salon covered in hair, i had to clean my neck and my jacket by myself in the bathroom. You'd think they would at least rinse my hair to get rid of the fallen cuts but no. My stylist said they only do one wash. Also confirm the prices before you go, i was overcharged than what I agreed to pay for when i booked my appointment online. There are better salons in the city with services worth your buck. I would probably not go there again. read more

This is an awesome (and reasonably priced for the quality of service and products available) salon with a great team of hair stylists and colorists! I have been a faithful client to Sylvie for several years now and have followed her from her previous salon to this one. Sylvie really understands what I want when I ask for a cut/color which is a supreme compliment as I am beyond particular about my hair style... and color. I went through many recommended stylists before meeting her, and I have no intention of ever going to someone new. In fact, people stop me weekly on the street to ask who my hair colorist is because my color is so beautiful (I'm a dark brunette who went to a cool, ashy platinum blonde) and I owe all the thanks to her and her talents! I have gotten to know the team that is now working here as they worked with Sylvie in previous salons and they are all very talented. Kuddos to the owners for opening a brand new salon that has such a rockstar team of stylists! The space has a really fresh, contemporary interior and is right off of the Church & Duboce stop on the MUNI! Very disappointed with my hair. I even got my hair fixed after my first go around and it is nothing of what I asked. I was looking for brown balayage on my naturally very dark brown hair (I came prepared with pictures and everything) and the first time I got ashy (almost gray) highlights and then when I called to get it fixed the woman was very open and immediately got me in. She stripped the toner to then put another toner into to get to what I originally asked for but now my hair is reddish with random blonde streaks. I just had to say I liked it and get out of there and I left almost in tears on my way home. Pro tip: don't go to a new salon right before a big trip (my mistake because now I'm stuck with this hair). Unfortunately, I don't think this salon is a fit for my hair needs and wants. read more

I've been seeing Sam Eldridge for 4 or so years for cut and color services and am so thrilled to have found her. I followed Sam from a previous salon to the ORO salons because she's a blonde expert. We've played with a variety of shades, tones and even adding hints of pink and lavender at times, and it's always so skillfully done, I feel like a new person when I leave the salon. What I appreciate most about Sam though is that she's taken the time to get to know my taste and style and can help me navigate changes to my current style without going overboard. That's a level of trust I wish I had more often in my life!! Also, while I liked the salon Sam was previously at, I love ORO. The Duboce location is lovely, just off Market street but with no busy street noise. It's clean, refreshing, and I seriously look forward to every appointment. read more

Followed Lee Gonzales here from a previous salon, so this is a two part review of both ORO Duboce and Lee. After moving to SF, I asked a friend who cuts his hair, and he told me about Lee. I booked an appointment and haven't thought about looking for anyone else. Lee is quite possibly the most consultative stylist out there. SF prices for cuts are high, but Lee is well worth the money. He'll sit with you and talk about your "goal" hair, help you think through what makes sense for you, and talk with you about the time frame/path to get there. Or, if you don't have any idea, you can also give him a sense of what you do/settings you live and work in, and he'll give you a great cut based on your needs. Can't go wrong with him. As for ORO, all the stylists and staff are extremely friendly. It's an open space so there's a good amount of noise, but it's a bright and fun space where I always feel welcomed. I haven't gotten my hair cut at the other ORO space on Market, but would imagine that the owners have setup a similar, high-quality shop there. Take a chance on ORO--you won't be disappointed! read more

I originally came to ORO when I Followed Lee Gonzales from his previous salon. He is absolutely wonderful with cut and color. However, I ended up deciding I wanted to try tape-in extensions since my hair never seemed to grow past my collarbones. Lee was happy to recommend Sophia Mangin to me for extensions. First let me say that I have had extensions on and off for nearly 8 years. I have tried everything, but not tape in extensions. Sophia was wonderful to work with through the process of choosing what colors would blend best with my hair, and she did an AMAZING job. I waited about 3 months between my extension maintenance appointments (Way longer than recommended) And I never lost a single extension. I will be going to Sophia for extensions FOREVER, or until the miraculous day that my hair turns into Rapunzel hair. I highly highly recommend her, she's excellent at what she does and she is an awesome and fun person to boot. She cares about the health of your hair and won't recommend anything that's going to leave you with brittle damaged ends. She's also realistic about what is actually possible with your hair, unlike some stylists at other salons that will promise you they can give you your dream hair and charge you exorbitant amounts--when it's not remotely possible to achieve the look you want given what you're working with.
