    Kid's miso ramen
    Paula L.

Stopped by Orochon Ramen in Little Tokyo after the Nisei Week Japanese Festival, since they were not crowded. We really appreciated the service -- the staff was attentive, friendly, and super helpful. When a drink got knocked over, they quickly helped clean it up without any fuss or hesitation. The food itself was just okay for me. We ordered the Miso ramen, gyoza, edamame, and Kid's miso ramen. The noodles for the miso ramen were fine, but the miso broth could've been more flavorful and creamier (I prefer a creamier broth). Also, if you want cha shu and egg, you'd have to order that as an add on. What's funny is that the kid's miso ramen came WITH an egg...but, the adult version does not. Unfortunately, the gyoza wasn't very good. It's probably one of the worst gyozas I've had. It wasn't very crispy and the inside stuffing was lacking flavor. The best thing here was the kid's ramen which was pretty big for a kid size AND you didn't need to add the egg. The place has a casual, no-frills atmosphere with a bit of an old-school ramen shop feel. The space can feel a little tight, but I guess it adds to the coziness of a traditional ramen shop. The walls are decorated with photos and challenge boards from their famous spicy ramen challenge, which gives the place a fun and quirky touch. It's the kind of spot where you come more for a quick, hearty meal than a drawn-out dining experience. Overall, great people and service, but the food for me, didn't quite hit the mark.

Craved a warm ramen bowl one Sunday evening so decided to go to Orochon Ramen. The place was not very busy so my party was seated very quickly. The service was so fast and they were highly accommodating to my young children. The taste and flavor of the ramen was nice, nothing extraordinary to me. We also tried the dumplings but not sure how fresh those were- most likely frozen. One thing I did not like was how sticky our table was- it made the place seem unkept and tad bit dirty to me.

Large portion size, but noodles were average in quality and quantity. The broth was diluted and thin, which was incredibly disappointing. Pork portions aside from chashu were lackluster, and adding a single slice of chashu cost an extra $2.50. Despite an event in the plaza, seating was readily available and prompt. Service was warm and attentive. Ambiance was average...it's a compact space with staff equipment integrated into the dining area.

This place is amazing. Staff was so kind and welcoming. The prices were affordable and they even have a vegan selection. It's a small spot so be ready to wait a bit during peak times but it's worth it. They have melon soda, which if you've been to Japan you know. I really enjoyed this

We brought some of our Hawaii fam to try out Orochon. There's a lot of amazing ramen places in Hawaii and they were surprised and pleased with the quality of the food that was served here. The service was excellent and servers were very friendly. The old school ramen shop atmosphere of the restaurant made us feel like we were in Japan. So good!

    Impact spicy, chasu, egg, miso

I came here with friends in order to see them do the SP2 challenge. I got the impact spicy miso ramen with chasu and egg, but I do believe I could've gone one higher but that's just one. The ramen was very tasty and the soup was great! The challenger on my table on the other hand had a lot on their table, going through the noodles and toppings was very easy, but the most difficult part was the soup. In the end they weren't able to finish, but that's okay. The staff was really nice about it and they do validation for parking as well. I really liked that we could sit on the outside so we could let us take in the outdoor chill for the spicy ramen!

I've been wanting to try this place since 2009. This place is legend to me. Before social media marketing, this place had huge hype in LA after the Man vs Food episode. All my high school friends at the time were talking about the Special 2 challenge. I finally got to satisfy my craving. Highly recommend everyone in LA to try this place at least once. Even though the show/episode is "old" now, I believe to this day, the Special #2 is an iconic menu item that you can only find here. Although I didn't try the special 2, I can imagine it to be very spicy. I was satisfied with the medium. I was a battling a sore throat, and the ramen broth did wonders!

    Worst ramen in the world

This was hands down one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. The food was terrible, the service was incredibly rude, and everything took forever to come out. They served tap water and skimped on ingredients -- instead of proper chashu, they put in a tiny, pathetic piece of pork that looked like it was meant to save costs. The ramen was disgusting, the fried rice was unbearably salty, and the dumplings were just frozen store-bought ones they deep-fried and served as-is. I seriously have no idea how a place like this is still operating in LA. The bearded Spanish-speaking staff member was extremely unfriendly. One of us got their ramen super late -- almost when the other was already finished eating. When we tried to complain, he wouldn't even listen and just kept talking over us. We ended up leaving most of the food untouched. This place is a joke and deserves to go out of business.

Teriyaki chicken (not good, not bad) wouldn't order it again.
    Joann K.

The ramen here is pretty tasty but they give so little. I'm a small girl that loves to eat, I needed more! ^^ I also ordered teriyaki chicken which was not good or bad, but I was hungry so I ate it. It's located inside Marukai market plaza on 3rd floor and i beleive it was 1 hr free parking w /validation. That was a plus especially in little tokyo.

1/24/2025 - Had lunch with Miso Soup Ramen. The bamboo is not fresh with some bad taste. I asked the waiter whether it came from a can. He told me, "from a plastic bag." The pork piece is thin and small, but not from high quality meat. Miso soup is ok, but not from a traditional stewed broth.

This was the small roach. The first one i saw was much bigger.
    O P.

I was finishing my plate when I noticed 2 cockroaches running around on the floor. I didn't bother telling the employees. I left right after. The floor was dirty and the bathrooms were stuffy. I took a quick pic of the small roach so I wasn't able to get a clearer shot. The first roach I saw crawling was massive.

Does this place have vegan options?

Not really vegetarian friendly , flavorless and poor costumer service

    Are dogs allowed?

Yes, but only on the patio area (not inside)

Are they still open right now even tho everything that's going on?

    Yes

Where can I find the parking?

There is parking located directly underneath and Orochon offers validation so don't forget that parking stub!

Who much is the typical ramen bowl?

Usually about $12. Pretty big portions and you can add more for a small fee. Definitely suggest chashu and garlic!

    Is there a parking structure?

    Yes

Can you do the spicy noodle challenge with the vegetarian broth?

    To my knowledge yes.

Hi, are the noodles made with using animal products such as eggs or butter? Just want to be sure the ramen is vegan friendly, thanks!

The noodles are vegan friendly. However, there is an option to put any extra toppings such as egg inside.

The flavor and level of customization are still what keep customers coming back One of the biggest draws is how customizable the ramen is. You can choose your noodle firmness, oil richness, broth richness, and even remove ingredients like onions, ginger, and more to make the bowl exactly how you like it Another standout feature is the variety of side toppings and add-ons. The Overload combo has always been a favorite for meat lovers, with three different meats that are all cooked well and pair perfectly with the ramen. There are also plenty of other toppings and side items available, so you can build your bowl however you want They used to offer more lunch combo options, but now the menu seems to focus more on individual items and seasonal specials like baseline one running now with Dodgers. Some of the seasonal offerings can be hit or miss, but it's nice to see them trying new things. Drinks are also available if you want something to go along with your meal. And they definitely raised their price, which guess is expected since everyone is getting more expensive in LA Service is typically quick, and food comes out fast since the broth and noodles are already prepared, with only a few items needing to be cooked to order. Like many ramen spots, they also offer extra noodle refills if you're still hungry after finishing your first serving The ambiance is casual and comfortable, with light background music and simple Japanese-inspired decor. There is both indoor and outdoor seating, which gives you some flexibility depending on your preference If you're in Little Tokyo and looking for a ramen spot that lets you customize your bowl exactly the way you like it, Shin-Sen-Gumi Hakata Ramen is definitely worth a visit!

There was not anyone at the restaurant at the time, but people did start trickling in as more time elapsed. We got our food relatively quickly as well. FOOD: I ordered the spicy pork tsukemen ($23.45), which is their dipping noodle. The noodles are thicker than standard ramen, but in a good way! It comes with thick chashu (thick, fatty pork) slices and soft boiled eggs. If you haven't had tsukemen before, you essentially dip your noodles into the broth and then eat it that way. The broth is extremely flavorful and there are also pieces of chashu in it as well. The only critique that I have regarding this is the broth was lukewarm which made the dish taste slightly off. I've tried this dish at another branch and the broth was also lukewarm there, so I'm not sure if this is a location issue or a standard amongst all branches. Also, this dish does not really have any vegetables in this, but I also don't know if traditional tsukemen has veggies included. SERVICE: Service was quick and everyone was nice and doing their job. Didn't seem like the staff was slacking or messing around while there weren't many customers. They were very attentive to us, refilling our water immediately once they saw it was getting low, and being very attentive towards if we had any other concerns or if we needed anything else. PARKING: There technically is street parking but since it's in Little Tokyo, it's going to be very difficult to find it. There's $4-6 valet parking available nearby the location. There are a lot of people walking around though so just be safe. INTERIOR: It's not too big of a place but it's also not too small as well. It looks very well kept and clean. BATHROOM: Two gender neutral bathroom stalls that are both very clean and accessible. No issues here with them. TLDR: Overall, I thought the place was pretty good to eat at! I would definitely come back for the tsukemen (as long as the broth is warmed up until it's hot). A very good dish combined with great music (they have some great Japanese music variety) is definitely a spot worth coming to with friends !! :))
