A generally good experience for a fast food stand inside of the grocery store. Soba and Udon noodles were fine. Mixed tempura age was fried crisp to order. Servings are on the smaller side for the prices, but flavors are nice. Hard to say if it's a deal over all the other bento plates found in the market deli, but it's an alternative for convenience's sake. One of the most disappointing katsudon meals I've had. The pork cutlet was soggy, the breading lacked texture, and the rice was completely soaked in broth to the point that it felt almost like soup. The cutlet also seemed like it had been prepared in advance and reheated rather than freshly made. I wasn't expecting a gourmet meal from a food court, but I did expect a basic, decent katsudon. Their cook and front desk staff have changed, they're now Koreans and the service (and more importantly) the food has greatly improved. They're fast, friendly, and the food is decent. I usually get their chicken or beef bowls and for the price you get a generous amount. It's never too salty, oily, or overcooked. The previous staff here were almost always frowning, did not appear they wanted to be there, and the food they prepared was inferior to what it is now. I hope it stays that way. On top of that, the furniture in the dining area has been replaced. They're newer and cleaner, a welcome and much needed change. Give this place a try, decent food, decent prices, and there's now another new Korean dining establishment right next to them to try. read more

Haven't tried this place before, but was craving some thing savory. Their chicken karaage is only $7, and the portion is very good for the price. Very tasty, and the sauce they provide is just enough (some more wouldn't hurt, depending on how much you like covering your chicken). Also ordered 2 croquettes, $4 each, and they were very well cooked and have a delicious taste. A+ work, highly recommended. Will definitely have to try their other offerings soon! read more

Does Sakura Noodles allow doggos? Nope, it's located inside an indoor market/plaza. However, there's a number of picnic tables set up outside the plaza. Doesn't look like much but Sakura Noodles has the best kimbap in this area! Their tuna, beef and fish cake ones are my favorites. I love their stuffings to rice ratio. I recently noticed they stopped pre-making kimbap all day like they used to in the past. May be due to sales slowing down. I'd recommend calling them before to make sure they have kimbap! read more

If you want to know how it feels to physically be somewhere, but emotionally be somewhere else. This will be the place to help you experience that. Beef Udon Noodles (3/5) While eating this, I kept thinking about Kura, and Marugame Udon. Kura? They're the fast-food style Pieology of sushi, if anything is their specialty it's sushi, but, their side offering of udon is better than the noodle offering here, at this noodle restaurant. At Marugame, I watched the worker spend about 5 seconds making my udon, a literal 5 seconds, grabbed noodle, threw it into a bowl, threw a couple slices of meat, and then pumped a squirt of liquids into a bowl, and that was better than this. The broth tasted of standard beef udon broth, the broth with a lot of umami, tastes a bit of bulgogi marinade, and a bit of beef stock. But the udon noodle was kind of mushy, had the texture of thick spaghetti noodles that boiled 10 minutes pass al dente. The beef's flavor has hints of being marination, but seems to have washed off into the broth. It just tastes like it's been washed off by some sort of boiling process, or it's been diluted, and almost has been fully washed off and now you have boiled beef slices. I felt like the kids in Robin William's Hook, where they were eating nothing, but through the power of their imagination, they were eating a feast. Ah... Kura... Mmm... Marugame... This dish is best enjoyed with very low expectations. So low, there's nowhere to go, but up. Croquette (3/5) The crispy skin, smelled delicious, the crunchy sensation reminded me a blend of Church's crispy chicken skin, and McDonald's hash brown blended together. Very exciting. Then I was greeted by the taste of grainy watery instant mashed potatoes. I was half way through the croquette before I encountered what tasted like, the dried vegetables found in a Nissin ramen cup; a kernel of corn, and a single pea. See photo. What I didn't realize then, was that it was the first and last time I'll ever be tasting a corn, and a pea, in this croquette. Then towards the end of the croquette, a hint of curry powder. I actually enjoy the skin, 4/5 for skin, but the insides were a 2/5. There are a ton of things on the menu, which is great, but if you don't want you restaurant judged by it, probably should take it off the menu. Overall, this place is "okay". Stopped by here for lunch and ordered the spicy seafood ramen. Which is basically almost like shiramyun with seafood. If you have been here before then you know this is at a food court of supermarket and the service is generally average. It wasn't super spicy just the right amount. Noodle wasn't firm but rather on the softer side. I suppose for the seafood it was a fair deal. If you like shineamyun on the softer side this would be good for you. read more

Dirty! All their tables are dirty. When I asked, very kindy one of the staff. The guy with a shoulder length curly hair with such a disgusting attitude. Actually, he already gave me "the attitude" when I asked him what's the difference between tonkatsu ramen and pork ramen. He said, "tonkatsu is tonkatsu. Pork is pork." with a sarcastic face. I got so irritated. Good thing my husband stopped me because I was about to say something he wouldn't like. Lucky for that guy. I hope the owner sees this and fires the man. Years later, this hole-in-the-wall contains to remain a favored lunch spot for me. Yes, prices have slowly creeped upwards due to increases in labor costs and what not, but the meals here are still cheap and reasonably tasty, all things considered. All that said ... is it just me, or has the beef in the soba and udon gone down in consistency of quality of product/preparation over the past years? When I got there, there was no line, super kind elder lady took my order. I got the chicken udon, shrimp tempura udon with no green onions, and a side of the shrimp tempura. The order came out in like 5 minutes. The food was hot and fresh. I tried the chicken udon, the chicken came in a separate bowl. It was super soft and mushy. I'm not a big fan of the chicken, but my boyfriend enjoyed it. I asked for no green onion on my udon but they still gave it to me either way. My shrimp tempura was super delicious and hot. I've been to this location a couple of times for lunch when I work/shop inside of the mall and it's been quite a good experience. They have been the best! She accommodates me and is nice even though I am usually in a hurry or pressed for time. I loveeeeee the owner there. I think other menu was good but my favorite things to order ramen. I have ordered Shoyu Ramen and beef kimbap. Ramen- broth was terrible. They need to stop calling it a ramen if broth is gonna taste like water diluted with soy sauce and way too much salt. No flavor whatsoever. But i chalked it up to it costing only 10.95. Prepackaged noodle and soy sauce water was what i got. Kimbap- pretty decent for what it is but somehow was very soggy. 0 stars for the Latino cook and Latina lady calling out the food that's ready. 5 stars for the Asian lady at the register. I always order the same thing, beef udon only udon & broth. They always write it correct at the register, but it's the 3rd time they give me meat. I politely told the Latina lady yesterday and she gave me an attitude and told me "that's not what I ordered" I lifted the bowl and they write the order in a tray liner and pointed to it where it said "no meat" she said well I "I thought you wanted no beef" beef is the only meat it comes with so it obviously wasn't a substitution. She went to the Latino chef and they laughed making fun of me the customer.... So rude, I stood there watching because I wanted to make sure it was correct now, Latina lady kept starring at my table mad dogging my coworkers... seriously? I ordered the tonkatsu cutlet curry. They give you a lot of curry sauce served separately in a container with potato. The cutlet is nice and crispy and is a great serving. Overall its pretty good. The restaurant is a little eatery inside the supermarket formerly known as yoahan plaza. With currygouse closed this is a great curry alternative. read more

I'm trying to support local businesses during the pandemic, and this noodle shop is in the Little Tokyo Mall and very easy to get to - especially when shopping... However, the last few times they have messed up the order and today was the last time. The food tastes good for the price, but this is the third time they have mixed up udon with Ramen and vice versa. We ordered Curry udon and beef Ramen, but when we got home we had Curry Ramen and beef Ramen with no beef in it. At least the gyoza was correct. I will not be purchasing from them during the pandemic anymore, when I can't make sure my order is correct until I get home. It's not worth the hassle or the wait. Located inside Little Tokyo Market Place are two restaurants both fast food with seating in back of the grocery area. This place is definitely cheap eats but you get what you pay for. I've come here for hot soba noodles which are just okay and for $4, it's not bad. The ordered a chicken katsudon which was a bit on the bland side and also not chicken, was pork. Someone's mistake in the kitchen. I didn't bother me and needed a quick meal. Katsudon lacked love with limited sweet soy and onions and just a tiny amount of red ginger. The one thing I'm sure about when it comes to this place is that I am never buying food from here again. I've passed by this restaurant many times because I frequent the Little Tokyo market and decided to take a chance a week ago since I had to get dinner anyway. I ordered the curry katsu and got home to discover five measly (and when I say measly, think child finger-sized pieces) strips of katsu laid onto of a whole styrofoam box full of rice and two wilted carrot slices. The ordering process was simple and the wait was not so bad around 6:20ish. I picked the tonkatsu bowl and was a bit disappointed on the size of the meal considering the price. They sell Takoyaki (a snack I'm very familiar with) under the title of "Taco"yaki. And, it's not the type of Takoyaki that's made from a maker; it's deep fried frozen ones that you can buy from the market this restaurant is in! I was walking hopelessly and was so hungry when I found Sakura Noodle in the Little Tokyo Mall. I had dropped of my daughter at a nearby bar and as always I needed my rice fix. It was around 130pm I stepped into the mall and there was a line of about 5 people at Sakura. They are inside a Japanese grocery store which is convenient but not exactly the best ambiance. The serving for the chicken teriyaki bowl was pretty big and even if I was so hungry, I didn't manage to finish half. Other people ordered ramen in bowls that were 12 inches in diameter! The broth was not that great, and I left most of it untouched. The pork is tough to chew and is in very thin slices. The noodles were okay, but because the base wasn't very good, I didn't like the whole thing overall. I honestly get more pleasure out of cooking my own Shin ramen. The pros are that Sakura is cheap, fast, and filling. For all I know, their other options are more palatable, but I'm only basing my review off of the ramen.
