Second time to Maruya and it does not disappoint. They have Sapporo on tap and that was a great start! Had the #6 #13 rolls , both rolled just right fresh and tasty. The #6 is Under Control and 13 is the Orange Dragon. Great place for a casual sushi dinner and very good service.

I was looking for lunch in Little Tokyo and I liked that this place was not as packed as the other places, so I jumped on the opportunity to get a delicious lunch and it did not disappoint! I know they are known for their ramen but I was really pulled in by their Bento Box. Mostly because it was so much food and reasonably priced. I got the salmon teriyaki bento box and man was that a lot of food! Comes with a full piece of salmon teriyaki, salad with ginger dressing to start, California sushi roll (4 pc), tempura shrimp and veggies, an egg roll, and chicken karaage (Japanese dark meat fried chicken). Salmon was perfectly cooked with the classic sweet and salty teriyaki marinade. Loved the ginger dressing on the salad. And the tempura veggies were even a stand out! Loved that they had broccoli, Kobucha squash, and sweet potatoes. All the food felt authentic and well seasoned. The service was great; our waitress was super friendly and our food came out fast. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is the atmosphere. It looks a little worn and outdated inside, and the bathrooms were also very worn and kind of dirty. Definitely wouldn't go here for a nice date, but definitely great for a casual midday lunch pick me up in Little Tokyo.

Surprisingly haven't tried this place till recently after all my years of visiting this plaza. We decided to finally try it since we were craving some small bites and curry lol. Service was quick, staff were friendly, and the menu was easy to get through. The hostess also helped give more info on their validation for the parking nearby which we didn't use but good to know for next time! Plenty of seating and even outdoor seating is available which is nice so you can enjoy the fresh air and plaza vibes. The curry was super delicious and really fills you up! The gyoza was probably my favorite (even dipped some in the curry). They did the pan seared so it's not fully fried and still soft in the middle. Their sauce though was fantastic! It was like a ponzu but not super citrusy, it was just right. Would definitely come back and try their other menu items! They had a yellowtail carpaccio that I'd like to try next time. We love coming to Maruya especially during the non-peak hours. At 2pm we were seated immediately but we were a little surprised that it filled up an hour later. But then again it comes as no surprise because of how delicious their ramen and sushi are. The price point is a little on the high side but in this economy, that's to be expected. The service and the food are impeccable. I wanted to give them 5 stars but they haven't fixed their bathroom situation. No disrespect to the owners, I know how hard it is to run a business, but the mirror still hasn't been cleaned so it's impossible to see one's reflection and the trash bin in the ladies' room was overflowing. I hope they can address this because my family just absolutely loves coming to this restaurant!

Delicious ramen spot that I always come to whenever I'm near Little Tokyo! I always order their Miso ramen (no bean sprouts) with a sushi roll on the side. It's really good. We also decided to try a few side orders this time like the spring rolls and gyoza. There is seating outside and inside. It can be packed depending on what day of the week you come by. Weekends are subject to be packed sometimes. There are only 2 restrooms and there is usually a line for it whenever I had to use the restroom so just a heads up. A little bit on the pricey side. But it's rare I come out here. Other than that, my favorite ramen spot in Little Tokyo hands down!

The Ramon was soooo good, best food I ever had, there customer service was too notch, they where so kind and nice and respectful 10/10 on ambiance, and when I was short a few bucks they where ok with it

Had a date night with my husband and LOVED the sashimi. Tasted really fresh and with variety of fish, worth the $40. My husband also enjoyed the ramen! The broth itself was really good and with the spice mixed in it was even better! They also have a whole alcohol menu, get the plum wine if you're craving something sweet. It is LA so we did park a couple blocks away at a parking structure. Place is located in Little Toyko with a bunch of stores and restaurants nearby.

    Avacado roll $7.00

Food: We wanted to come back to this place because the food was good pre-Covid. After coming back the food portion got smaller and was not as good. The food is cheap and worse than what you buy from the supermarket. The ramen costs $18 which you can find in most places. The Avacado roll is $7 for 6 pieces, but it is very small. Would not come back!

Pretty basic and rather overpriced. The beer was well presented and it was nice sitting outside in the sun capturing this sapporo advert picture. The salmon sushi was $20 for bits of salmon on top of rice and avocado, and not great salmon at that. It's ok for a quick bite but I wouldn't stake an entire meal here.

We came in on a Sunday night, it was busy but we were seated within 5-10min. I ordered the chicken katsu combo, it's very filling and you'll definitely have left overs. The katsu is crispy and hits the spot. The food comes out quick after you order!

Felt like going to Little Tokyo yesterday for lunch. Decided to try this place because it did not have a line. It's not a big restaurant. None of the restaurants in this mall are big. Not much in ambiance. Now we know why. Big portions of food but it was just okay. The waitress was nice to tell us the portions are huge so we ordered the Salmon Bento to share as we are not big eaters. It came with miso soup, 4 pieces of sushi, salad, and in the Bento Box fried chicken - overdone, a variety of tempura, rice, salmon teriyaki and a spring roll. The Salmon was a little overdone for us.

Thought sushi's in the heart of little Tokyo would have been better than others but I was wrong. Yellowtail's jalapeño was well presented yet the texture of the fish was not that fresh and buttery. The volcano roll and salmon lover were just ordinary. Although services were delightful and the restaurant seemed packed with Sunday's crowds. I wouldn't be returning unfortunately.

I ordered the Salmon Ikura Bowl and my guest had the Tonkotsu Yama. My order came with miso soup and a small salad, both of which were delicious. We ordered a chicken karaage to start and it wasn't bad, nothing to write home about though. Since the pieces were large, it was slightly awkward to eat without any plates, and I was just catching the crumbs with my hand (didn't have the ramens at the time). Also got a yuzu beer to try and it was delicious, nice yuzu flavor with some tanginess. I had the shoyu with duck while my husband had the yama tonkotsu that came with fragrant black garlic oil. The tonkotsu is not one of those rich, milky, creamy ones and I personally like these lighter ones more. I also enjoyed the shoyu which had a pleasant depth of flavor, but it felt like it was relying too heavily on MSG for umami. Noodles came out chewy. Definitely not the best ramens I've had but are some of the better ones in LA. Our server was friendly, as were the rest of the staff. Service was quick. The restaurant decor feels straight out of Japan, an extra bit of fun. There's a $10 paid lot behind this block of buildings that's convenient for anything in this part of Little Tokyo.

Dashi was VERY good. Generous amount of grated daikon. Assort. Tempura: Saw this being served while waiting. Looked really good and it WAS! Large shiitake mushroom. Fan cut Japanese eggplant, kabocha pumpkin, shrimp tempura & two (2) shiso leaves. All VERY crisp not oily. Warm dashi side had deep umami rich flavor. Probably made the legit kombu & bonita flake method. #1 ordered the Miso carbonara: garlicky carbonara served with their signature house-rolled out udon. Wonderful dish. Portion sizes were adequate. #2 ordered the Uni carbonara: same garlicky carbonara with uni bits strewn about. Estimating one whole uni broken. This actually works for ease of eating. Plus, uni ranges in the $18/oz on the low end to $60 or more/oz on the higher end. Yes we love & appreciate their gonads. Udon noodles were chewy, bouncy & worth the wait. Yeah yeah....the dough is purchased. Not house made. But, seriously you've seen the YouTube videos of restaurants specializing in Japan? Yes there are places in LA who make their dough & roll it out. It's Hella lot of work! Yamachan produces large scale udon/ramen in San Jose. It's fine. Let them work out the dough to water ratio. Also portion size was decent since we shared a couple apps. There was not anyone at the restaurant at the time, but people did start trickling in as more time elapsed. We got our food relatively quickly as well. FOOD: I ordered the spicy pork tsukemen ($23.45), which is their dipping noodle. The noodles are thicker than standard ramen, but in a good way! It comes with thick chashu (thick, fatty pork) slices and soft boiled eggs. If you haven't had tsukemen before, you essentially dip your noodles into the broth and then eat it that way. The broth is extremely flavorful and there are also pieces of chashu in it as well. The only critique that I have regarding this is the broth was lukewarm which made the dish taste slightly off. I've tried this dish at another branch and the broth was also lukewarm there, so I'm not sure if this is a location issue or a standard amongst all branches. Also, this dish does not really have any vegetables in this, but I also don't know if traditional tsukemen has veggies included. SERVICE: Service was quick and everyone was nice and doing their job. Didn't seem like the staff was slacking or messing around while there weren't many customers. They were very attentive to us, refilling our water immediately once they saw it was getting low, and being very attentive towards if we had any other concerns or if we needed anything else. PARKING: There technically is street parking but since it's in Little Tokyo, it's going to be very difficult to find it. There's $4-6 valet parking available nearby the location. There are a lot of people walking around though so just be safe. INTERIOR: It's not too big of a place but it's also not too small as well. It looks very well kept and clean. BATHROOM: Two gender neutral bathroom stalls that are both very clean and accessible. No issues here with them. TLDR: Overall, I thought the place was pretty good to eat at! I would definitely come back for the tsukemen (as long as the broth is warmed up until it's hot). A very good dish combined with great music (they have some great Japanese music variety) is definitely a spot worth coming to with friends !! :))

While good, it didn't have the crisp flakiness you'd find in a specialty restaurant that specializes in just tonkatsu. However, it is still good. Next up was the omelette with gravy with fried rice that had both shrimp and pork. I feel the egg of the omelette was well made. It had that texture and consistency you would really want from an omelette of that nature. The pork and shrimp fried rice tasted a little light in the seasoning and flavor, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. The gravy was also lighter than a heavy gravy as well. When the food came out, I thought the meal would be deeply heavy due to the quantity and the gravy, but it still felt a bit light and manageable, which was kind of outside of my expectations, so that was pretty interesting. I do like the chicken soup this comes with. It has a nice flavorful broth where you could tell it was made well too. The service here is pretty good and attentive. We walked into a casual, unpretentious space with walls covered in artwork and doodles that give it plenty of personality. The setup is modest and functional, the kind of place where the focus stays on the bowl in front of you rather than the decor. While newer ramen shops often lean into sleek interiors and trend driven menu items, Mr. Ramen feels more focused on delivering the kind of meal that keeps people coming back year after year. The menu covers a wide range of ramen styles, but the tonkotsu and fried chicken ramen stood out most. The tonkotsu delivered a rich, deeply savory broth paired with noodles cooked to the right texture, while the fried chicken ramen offered something a little different. Crispy pieces of fried chicken added both texture and substance to the bowl, creating a combination that feels uniquely tied to the restaurant. The curry ramen is another favorite, bringing a heartier and more robust flavor profile than the traditional options. Beyond ramen, gyoza and bento boxes round out the menu for anyone looking for a larger meal. Despite its modest appearance, the restaurant has a warm and comfortable energy that fits naturally within Little Tokyo. Service can occasionally slow during busy periods, but the friendly atmosphere and satisfying food make it easy to understand why the restaurant has remained a reliable destination for ramen lovers. The staff handle the steady flow of customers with a casual efficiency, and the pace of the meal stays relaxed even when the dining room fills up. What makes Mr. Ramen memorable is not any single trend or specialty ingredient, but its consistency. It delivers the kind of comforting bowl of ramen that feels familiar, filling, and dependable, making it one of those places that continues to hold its place in Little Tokyo's crowded ramen scene without needing to shout for attention.
