We're visiting from out of town and staying nearby. We thought we would try Oromo on day one and try a different coffee shop each day, but their food and coffees are so good we're enjoying delivery every day. Their homemade milks are amazing! For someone that lives in Little Italy, this isn't the most convenient of coffee shop to inhabit for an afternoon of studying. That being said, their concept is just so refreshing that I couldn't pass up the opportunity to explore this little shop when I had the time. Everything is adorable. Even the bathrooms are cute. I ordered a Turkish coffee that came in the most ornate little cup with Turkish delight on the side (scroll through the user pics for this place and you'll know what I'm talking about). And while I didn't have a chance to try anything else from the menu, all of the other snacks and bevi's looked delicious and nutritious to boot! I grabbed my coffee and took my place at one of the many seating options they offer. There was even an outlet right between my feet. I was beginning to wonder if this place could be anymore convenient, and then I remembered the L ride it took to get there. I'd like to say I have no regrets about making the trip. Lovely little cafe in the neighborhood with some very unique flavors added to the traditional coffee. Friendly staff , nice decor and an innovative hot / cold beverage menu. A few things worth mentioning are the Turkish coffee , exotic tea selection and the pistachio rose latte. The Pistachio Rose latte has a unique scent and flavor to it , it takes me back to the days of tasting Persian desserts in the streets of Mashhad. A cozy place to read a book or get some work done. Not that I have anything against Oromo Cafe but it is definitely for show and not for quality. Maybe go there for the experience of being served Turkish coffee in a pretty cup. But being middle eastern myself, I know good quality and tasty Turkish coffee. The grinds need a bit of time to simmer with the water, which isn't the case here. I personally wouldn't come here again due to having easy and better Turkish coffee at home (and the fun of fortune reading in the end). The decor was cute and the place was super clean. read more

I am not a major coffee drinker so these options are well above my regular uncultured coffee palate. I tried the Cubano it had such a dark, rich, and smooth taste I'm sure a loved pick by coffee lovers. Cappuccino sweetened with vanilla with almond milk substitute was also delicious. Not a place to eat brunch or anything but has some really trendy seemingly healthy options. I tried the beet and avocado sandwich-seemed like random assortment of arugula and such on a pita...not a big fan. You got to know your coffee here because it didn't seem like the cashier was up for educating anyone...not that he should but didn't feel super welcoming when I asked about their coffee. Strangely too, although I said I was dining in, they gave me to-go cups. Would have been nice to have mugs or glassware. Might want to go back to try what seemed to be a really interesting tea slushy. Probably next summer, not a rush to go back but would recommend to coffee lovers. read more

I initially came in and ordered the Golden Mylk Latte, however they said they were out so ordered something else. Right after I got my drink, I heard two orders of the Golden Mylk Latte being called up for the customers who had ordered just behind me which struck me as ridiculous as I had just been told there weren't any available. The baristas told me that they just had a batch come out, and sorry about that in a way that was dismissing of the fact that the order I was hoping to get was in fact less than a minute from being available. Wish they had given a heads up or checked when it would come out, as after coming all the way out here I would have liked to try something they were known for, and wasn't going to buy a second drink at these prices in one sitting. Ended up with the Vietnamese coffee which wasn't that great and tasted watered down. Overall, not a great experience here. read more

i was having a really bad day. after stopping by open books, i was looking for a cafe to sit down and let my feelings out. this place did the trick. i ordered tomato basil soup with toasted naan and a rose matcha latte with oat milk. the latte was pretty good but nothing special. it was served in a ceramic mug which i appreciated. the soup was slightly bland and not quite hot enough. naan was delish but to be fair you can't really mess that up. i wasn't too upset though because the atmosphere was nice and i was able to get some writing done. i appreciate the amount of vegan options and i wouldn't be opposed to trying out more of the menu. read more

I have been coming to Oromo Cafe every Sunday morning after Chicago Endurance Sports Winter Warriors at the Lincoln Square Fleet Feet & each stop in has been a positive one! I typically get a drip coffee to warm up post-run and what I love most is the variety of house-made nut milks that they offer. I have tried the pecan, pistachio, and toasted hazelnut milks in my coffee, but the golden mylk has quickly become my favorite. The staff is always very accommodating, willing to steam up milk and warm up any of their healthy treats from the bakery case. This the perfect spot to catch up on emails, read the paper, meet a friend for coffee, or just sit and relax for a few minutes with something warm before braving our current Chiberia temperatures. I highly recommend Oromo Cafe and look forward to continuing to stop in in the future. read more

Oromo Cafe is the type of place that makes you feel like you should be better, without being too snobby. Everything is well-lit, organic, and (seemingly?) good for you. I had the Golden Mylk Chai. I was skeptical but WOW that was a good chai. Like best in the past year I've lived in Chicago. The best-selling almond butter cookie was eh - I could and have made similar, so I didn't see anything too distinctive in that. I would probably go more adventurous the next time I visited, as there was a whole raft of vegan treats. Oromo Cafe is one of the best cafes I've been to in Chicago, especially if you're sick of lattes and want to try some different kinds of coffee. Their matcha teas are great but their Turkish coffee is the best coffee on the menu (it's the size of an espresso shot or cappuccino so don't be expecting anything large!). Food wise the goat cheese toast is AMAZING. Definitely a great place to go. Plus in the summer there is a farmers market right in front of the cafe on Tuesdays! read more

Yay for innovative craft lattes. Had the privilege of enjoying their Turkish coffee and the hazelnut horchata latte today. Both were fabulous. I was especially keen on the latter because it was super creamy and one of the more memorable lattes I've had in a while. Oromo makes its own nut milks daily that are free of artificial sugars, and the amount of labor that goes into making them is evident through their quality. Super rich. As you glance through their drink menu, you might notice some pretty foreign and interesting ingredients like maca and camu camu (both superfruits). There's other superfoods that they incorporate into their signature concoctions, all of which are described on the menu. I thought it was pretty neat that they also aim to educate and widen people's horizons. They cater to those with dietary restrictions - vegan, dairy-free, sugar-free etc. :) read more

Oromo Café where have you been all my life? I met a friend here to catch up a few weekends ago and I cannot stop raving about this place. Hands down the best Chai Tea Latte I have ever had in my life! It was perfect. Not too sweet and just the right amount of creaminess. I also tried the goat cheese toast. It was delicious. The food took a little longer to come out than I would have liked, but when I went to inquire I saw them crafting a masterpiece. It was definitely not thrown together so I can appreciate the extra time to plate it perfectly. The food menu is fairly small, but everything looks delicious. I was envious of a table nearby that had salads and lentil soup. The place isn't huge so seating could be a little tough, but we were able to find 2 window seats when we arrived. I'll be back when it's not the frigid Chicago winter to try some of their cold drinks as well. read more

What an experience! Oromo Cafe offers a wide range of organic coffee goodness. They have the turkish traditional, and some other edgy choices. The Golden Milk latte is really good. They also have really good pastries, lots of vegan options. The staff is friendly and very good at what they do. The shop is so beautifully decorated, lots of turkish motifs, but still has a clean minimal look to it. Very nice place to go with groups, large communal tables, a few tables for two, and some window sitting. Family friendly. The coffee and food options am here are delicious and high quality, which keeps me coming back. However, I have to give 3 stars because of the lack of efficiency and client service. I frequent this place (and want to reiterate it is worth it) but I have yet to order from the food menu without a long wait. if this was my ordering from the kitchen that'd be understandable of course, but I often wait the longest when I simply order from the bakery case. The cashier will typically take my order and then disappear into the back. The baristas are always efficient but have ended up having to follow up with me about my food order and get it for me themselves after noticing me waiting more than once. read more

This place was pretty good! The atmosphere is interesting. Not kid friendly at all, so save yourself the feeling of embarrassment. I came in with a three year old and a 7 month old, and the looks I got the entire time were beyond unpleasant. I ordered the pistachio mint panini and it was really good. I found this place through Freevo, and I can't believe I've never been here before. I ordered the Turkish coffee and the goat cheese and strawberry toast. The coffee was delicious and it also came with a small treat on the side. I know that the sweet is a traditional Turkish item but I don't know the name of it! Love how it came in a very ornate cup! The goat cheese and strawberry toast was mind blowing. There were so many different flavors that worked so week together! Sour dough toast, goat cheese, honey, thyme, strawberries and lemon zest. This is a solid place for coffee in Lincoln Square. The ambiance is really great as it is well decorated and welcoming vibe. There was plenty of seating and I noticed many had their laptops plugged in. They seemed to promote a healthy menu and had several milk alternatives. They claim to have craft lattes. I would say the flavor mixtures would leave you to believe that but, a true craft latte to me means I am going to get some latte art...which I didn't. I ordered some sort of maple pecan latte which was WAY too sweet. I wished that I drank it there because I would have sent it back. My husband had a light roast drip coffee and he thought it was pretty good but nothing compared to some other local coffee roasters. The prices were pretty high as their lattes were $6-$8. I literally never write reviews but this was one of the worst experiences I've ever had. My friend saw her pull a hair out before she even put the plate down and then she proceeded to put it down while there was still hair in it. She literally hid in the back room after she saw us take the rest of the hair out of our food. We didn't want to be rude or disrespectful so we quietly asked the lady at the register if she could remake it. She responded with a huge attitude and only said "thats fine" as if she was doing us a favor. The food that they came out with after was not even half the quality of the original plate. Oromo has decent coffee at premium pricing. The atmosphere and decor is welcoming and certainly has its share of people with laptops as well as the local Lincoln Square stroller crowd. Staff is not the friendliest, nice people but why am I always the one saying thank you. Crema on the espresso is not optimal, perhaps the grind is a bit off and certainly needs improvement. Selection of teas and nut milks are great too. One thing that keeps me going to Groundswell over Oromo is they give a free coffee with a pound of beans, simple but is just a great example of customer service that Oromo simply misses the mark on. read more

This is probably one of the most unique coffee shops I've been to in Chicago. Of course they have all the standard coffee options, but today I walked in to grab a latte and a seat to work for a little while. I come in and I see they have a "Tumeric Ginger Latte" which sounded really good (it's decaf but that was fine by me). So I ordered that and the barista asked me what milk I wanted. I asked for soy, not sure what would go well in the drink. They don't have soy, but what they did have was four different types of nut-based milks that they make themselves: almond, pecan, pistachio, and toasted hazelnut. It was delicious. Really really good. Great service and the overall atmosphere is modern, but very inviting. Like lots of plants around, etc. This would definitely be a good place to stop by and work for a few hours but don't plan to hop on your phone here. The music selection is pretty mellow chill kind of music, but loud enough that it would be hard to have a phone call. It's a good thing. I had a matcha latte and a matcha cookie (I don't think this is a regular item since I swinged by one time just to get a cookie). Both were delicious! The service is excellent, bathrooms are clean and the ambience is nice! I also appreciate the story behind the name of the establishment which is a huge bonus (don't mind the reviews about cultural appropriation but rather read up on the establishment's values and background). A cute little coffee shop with unique flavors and combinations for their drinks. I enjoyed a few afternoons here getting some work done. It tends to get a bit crowded and there are some spaces that don't have access to outlets. I did love the playlist, which was laid back but also energetic. Howeverrrrr, the prices are a bit steep for what you get. I've had the pistachio rose latte, which in my opinion did not seem particularly different flavor-wise from a regular latte other than being topped with dried roses, and cost $10 for a large. I've also had the cold brew + hazelnut smoothie, which was filling and also tasty. Each time I've come here, I've dropped close to $20 just with a drink, a snack, and tip. It's overall not a bad place to be, but just be prepared to shell out some more money for it. read more
