This place is so unprofessional, called me the last minute to cancel on me, not just once or two weeks in a row, half hour before I stepped out to head to them!! Who does that!!! Not sure if my stylish has any personal issue with me. Felt like 2nd class citizen, this place served mostly Caucasian. I was bummed, it totally wrecked my whole weekend, too much hassle to find another stylist on the last minute notice. Planning a holiday trip, I am running out of time. I was desperate to get my hair done, I ended up heading there anyway, another stylist did my hair color, I specifically said no red tone, still pulling red auburn. She didn't even show me the hair strand sampler and asked how I wanted my hair color to be. She went to the back and whipped up a bowl of color, had no idea what she picked. I showed her couple of pixs with golden brown ombre, sun kissed affect. She dyed my hair medium brown to cover the grey. Big chunk of my grey are still not covered completely!! Brown color will pulled red, gosh not a happy camper! Now my hair looked crappy with old faded brassy copper tone, auburn shade on top, yaik!! Bye bye my nice golden caramel highlight. Molly is the best!!! She is very knowledgable about different kinds of curly hair and the best way to care for it and what products to use. I recently moved to Pasadena and the air is much dryer than what I am used to so I've been having some issues with that. Molly knew just what to recommend and did a great job with my cut! Also she is incredibly sweet and patient. I will definitely be returning to Orpheum. Plus there is plenty of 2 hour street parking and they will validate for the lot next door. I used to really like this place, I came often and looked forward to it. After my long time stylist left I didn't come back for a while, but recently I took a chance and wish I hadn't. The people are still nice and the place is still beautiful (looks like a remodel) but my last experience left a lot to be desired. I told the stylist what I didn't like about my last cut and what I was looking for. She cut my hair the way she felt was best, which is not what I asked for. My hair doesn't look awful, but it's not the way I prefer. I wish she had told me her suggestion before just going her way. I understand she's the pro, but it's my hair and I'm paying!!! Which leads me to my next point, $70 is too pricey for a haircut, even for women. read more

Made an appointment a few days prior. When I arrived at the salon, the only person there was the receptionist. There was absolutely no one there to cut hair. The receptionist told me she had accidentally cancelled my appointment in the system and hadn't realized until then. She apologized but never offered to reschedule. I've been going to this salon for a while and have always been happy with it. I don't go as often as I should (it's difficult to find time) and it is out of the way for me (which is why this experience was frustrating). At least I got my parking validated. read more

I love this salon and that says a lot because I am aware of how picky I am when it comes to my hair and hair stylists. I completely lucked out about 2 1/2 years ago when I moved to Pasadena and decided to try out the Orpheum Salon for a cut (trim really) and full color. I was scheduled with Melanie and have continued to get my hair done by her since. She is amazing when it comes to cutting and coloring and I could not recommend her more. As for parking I noticed some reviews complaining about the street parking. I'm not sure how long the parking at the bank next door has been going on, but I have never had trouble parking there. After reading about this salon from other yelpers, I decided to give it a go and get my hair cut with Alison. What can I say? She is amazing! Not only is she fun to talk to, she does mean color and awesome cuts. I'm not the most reliable hair customer, I only get my hair done a few times a year, but her cut and color actually held up through the long winter. I have bounced around from different stylists over the last few years and when Allison was recommended, I was happy to try her out. I won't go anywhere else now. She always does an amazing job, is super friendly and fun, and I always leave with a smile. I can't say much for the salon services or other stylists because I have not used them (and I prefer Biolage to Aveda) but the other stylists etc have always been very hospitable and friendly. I'm a sucker for Aveda products and had a haircut w/ Jo Gavin today. The salon's website is very informative and the salon itself is uber cute. The only problem I had was trying to find parking (gah). I really love the layers that she put into my hair and think everything came out great! I went there for the first time today; I called in the morning and was able to get a same-day appointment for highlights and a cut and blow-dry. Everyone was very welcoming and friendly, and Melanie, my stylist, did a great job on the cut and highlights. I mentioned that the color came out a little lighter than I expected, but that I liked it anyway. I think most stylists would have taken that at face value, but Melanie offered to change it for me if I wanted her to (but really, I do like it). When we were done, they gave me a little sampler packet of hair care products but didn't try to sell me anything. To address a couple things that came up in other people's reviews -- everyone was very friendly and welcoming when I was there, and they offered me beverages a few times. Vanessa will do the greatest job on your hair, no matter how high your standards are! She is also the expert hairstylist for th Brazilian Blowout, the AVEDA way. No harsh chemicals are used but the results are the same if not better. She has applied this wonderful technique twice on my hair and I couldn't be happier. Gary, on the other hand, is my stylist, he knows exactly how to please the customer and always does a great job. Vanessa has been my stylist for at least eight years now, and I will follow her anywhere she goes! She is great with cuts, color and highlights -- and is a miracle worker with blowouts for my curly hair. Vanessa really takes the time to listen to you and doesn't try to push you into things that you don't want, as so many other stylists do. Honestly, she is the only person I trust with my hair. I just tried Jo Gavin and am very happy with her. I told her I just needed a little trim and she assessed what I wanted correctly -- she asked if I wanted to keep my layers long and to have a half inch trim, which is exactly what I wanted. She proceeded to trim my hair and I can tell she's confident and knows what she's doing. The best part is that she was careful not to cut too much off. She did a great job with my hair and my bangs -- not too short and not too long. It's rare for me to find a hairstylist whom I like and can trust right away. I don't know how well she blowdries because I only got my hair trimmed so I can save $10, so it came out to $50 for a cut only. Other places don't give that flexibility in price -- they'll charge the same no matter what. She was warm and friendly too, which made the whole experience very pleasant. I got my hair cut by Vanessa at this salon last night. My hair is wavy and very thick so it can be hard to cut well. She did a great job, it has movement, great lines and she got most of the pesky bulk out. I feel like flipping my hair around like in one of those hair commericals. ($65+tip) read more

I first started out with Jo but she moved and I've been going to Molly ever since. Molly is truly gifted! She helped me embrace my wavy hair (that I previously thought was only a slight wave and straightened out on the regular). With the right product, a great cut and great tips and now my hair is amazing. I love it- it's simple and fast. My hair definitely has it's own ego at this point. read more
