OMG!!! Been looking for two windows we took of my house " a Fox & Jacobs built in 1959" and accidentally threw away. been to every salvage with no success. But once here we found two Identical windows. And to think we almost didn't go there because we couldn't find the place but something told me to call and see where their location was, so glad I did. I couldn't believe it they have every window imaginable, after a few minutes my wife almost gave up I said let me go a little further and lo and behold there they were I called her and told here they are she couldn't believe it. the price was just awesome. the people were so awesome they couldn't believe we found what we were looking for. When arriving to Orr reed I was greeted by the most beautiful wall of colorful doors! It actually inspired me to create a door-wall that is similar in my home once I own my own and no longer renting. Hannah, the owner, and her mother Michelle were there and as a first time visitor they gave us the full walkthrough the entire inside and outside of the building. They were both extremely knowledgeable about every single piece they had! "That is an Egyptian door from the 1800's" Like, what?! Who remembers that kind of thing, or even takes the time to learn the history of their items?! Orr Reed does. They were also an amazing backboard to brainstorm ideas for our projects that we had originally come in for. We wanted to build a table out of a funky looking door and Hannah was able to help us think through the entire project start to finish!! We will definitely be returning soon! read more

We went here for a craft day and walked around the entire site. Wow. If you need any sort of bits and pieces for an art project or home improvement this would be a good place to go. It's out of the way, hidden by the Trinity river just south east of the city center. There are some other scrap dealers in the same area. Definitely worth a look. read more

Although we didn't walk away with anything and I'm still curious as to how much something would cost, it was pretty much what I had in mind. The pricing is a big factor. They have tons and tons of off hinged doors and lots of used wood. We came looking for driftwood but they said they didn't think they had any and we didn't look very hard because it was raining so it kind of put a damper on our search. If you are looking for used sinks, lighting, broken windows and doors, this is the place! I saw some windows I liked but they were a little more damaged than I wanted. The staff seemed friendly and welcoming and there were cats roaming around inside and out. It's also back in a part of town that I don't go very often or ever and I wouldn't go by myself if you know what I mean. But overall pretty interesting and worth checking when you're looking for used items with lots of character. read more

architectural salvage. in case i need to explain, this place is a small(ish) "junk yard" - which is totally NOT junk - but super cool old stuff- of stripped pieces from homes/buildings that are scheduled to be demolished; for example, old cast iron claw foot bath tubs, fireplace mantles, light fixtures, hard wood floors as old as your grandma. this is a shop that re-sales, passes on, appreciates and respects character. this shop is not just helping the environment in promoting repurposing one man's junk, but it's preserving a little bit of history, which personally, i think, is very special. read more

I am all about architectual salvage and repurposing things as opposed to throwing them away. Unfortunately I feel like most of the stuff at Orr-Reed actually needs to be thrown away because it's rotted or molded or unusable. I'm not saying there's not a treasure to find, and it might have helped if I didn't come after a rain and everything smells like mildew. Most things are outside and subject to the elements. One of my most prized possessions is an antique Singer sewing machine that has been converted into a very pretty accent table and the sewing machine is displayed at my mothers house to this day. There are so many treasures and fun unique things to find and incorporate into a home. I was a little bummed at my visit here. I didn't find the type of wood I was looking for (only limits were size and price) nor any coat hooks. They do have an interesting selection and the staff, while very informal, are very good about answering questions, looking up what they don't know, and generally being very pleasant and helpful. I did dig the cats that were hanging out inside but did not see the pig. I'm sure if I had a wider range of house-salvage needs, I would have found something at a good price point.
