Job was for grass and leveling of dirt in backyard. It was a two-day job. Upon inspecting first day job, I noticed my cement on the side of my house was not only cracked in several places but was sunken by 1 inch. A utility vehicle was driven through side of home and used to bring in 20+ yards of dirt. (Cement damaged was about one truckload worth - quote to repair was $12,000) extremely more than this grass job. I was told by Pedro he would fix it, and apologized for damaging. Fast forward, I was then told it's my fault and even blamed my husband for possibly driving on it once he found out what the quote was for repairing. Then went off to say, my cement guy didn't do a good job with the cement, etc etc...(cement is poured for different purposes, mine was for walking on, not driving vehicles) When I told him I took pictures the night before he arrived I was then blamed on setting him up,... mind you, I just installed my cement two months ago and it looked amazing. Working on my lawn this Monday. I've had Mr. Ortega doing my yard for 3 weeks now. My property looks just as bad as it did before I hired him. I had used his services about a year ago. I loved the work they did so I called him back. Mistake, not only is he more expensive. He does so much less. I hired him to mow and weed my property once a week. First week he mowed front and back nothing else. Second week he did one flower bed weeding and mowed the front. Third week me mowed the back and trimmed a foot high hedge. He's bringing 2 teenagers with him. Neither one of them want to be doing lawns. I feel bad especially for the young girl. He needs to go back to using his adult guys for these jobs. Hubby and I were tired of our dirt lawn, and never ending, never surviving grass. We recently hired these guys to fix our backyard. Of course you get nervous paying someone for a service, but we were very happy with what they've done for our yard. They yanked out all the dead grass, weeds, and roots, and aerated the yard prior to putting in the freshly cut sod. The grass is so dark green, and lush. Hired them to remove weeds, including roots, fixing all sprinklers on my backyard, and moved a couple trees on the front. Whey they scrapped the weeds than digging out roots, I brought this up. Pedro, the owner, went mad, and pretended he did not understand English well. They broke the valve's pipe without telling me. I had to pay them extra to fix it. After Pedro came to fix it. Nearby soil was still wet which indicates somewhere underneath is still leaking. Some sprinklers were simply capped than fixed. And again without telling me. One of the trees was moved to sit on top of water pipe, and they broke the pipe again without telling me. Water splashes out when sprinklers are turned on. I have to pay someone else to move the tree away and fix the leaking pipe. Terrible work done, and no response whatsoever. The owner, Pedro, is simply a mad man. He understood perfectly when at the beginning what needs to be done. He turned mad and pretended he didn't know the language when they got caught doing lousy jobs. Besides, he abused his guys for the whole day without giving them food that I supplied his guys with water and burger meals. Stay away from this madness business. read more

We moved into a new place in Corona. Being unfamiliar with the area, we looked at some reviews and found Ortega. We asked them to come out and get things in shape after the previous owners obviously had let maintenance go for months. It was a big job. They showed up on time, blasted through the work and left our landscaping looking fantastic. The price was right and we didn't have to wait a long time for them to schedule it. Very disappointed in this business. I contracted with them to plant four trees with root guards - super important - and clearly stressed multiple times. They would also be planting 10 ferns, and double-staking over a dozen trees in the backyard (we get strong winds regularly). They responded promptly to my request and came out to give a bid. The owner (?) came with his daughter who acted as our translator. He didn't think root guards were beneficial and said it would be a waste of my money. I told him my HOA required it and that while I appreciated his opinion it was my money to 'waste.' Smile. They said $900 for the job and returned three days later to do the job. When he arrived for the job he met my husband (first-language Spanish) who greeted the men in Spanish. As they were digging the holes for trees I asked the owner if he had the root guards and he said he did. I asked because they weren't visible but the trees hadn't been delivered yet so I didn't worry about it. The guys finished the job in a little under four hours. Before they left my husband asked if they had installed the root guards - the owner said no. Ack! The trees were already in the ground. I was annoyed but felt it was clearly a misunderstanding. I paid them thinking that when I spoke to the daughter they'd either redo the job or refund the difference. It took three calls but I finally got a hold of her and she said he hadn't understood when I asked (although funny thing root guard is said the same way in English and Spanish) and they had not staked any of the trees because they thought I would provide the supplies. Guess I should be glad they brought the soil? Makes no sense. She said the estimate assumed I would supply the root guards and the stakes and they would come back when I had them. So frustrating - I don't have a truck so getting 2 dozen 10-12ft stakes would be a serious headache. Fast forward four months, holidays have passed and I have the supplies sorted. I call three times with no call back. The fourth time I get the son who - after I texted him a copy of the estimate and a screenshot of the convo with the daughter where we left things - says they could come out that very day. I say that doesn't work for me I'm not home. Any other day available? He responds with two days the next week and when I confirmed one of those dates he never responded. I have every belief that if I call them another half dozen times I could get them to do the job but that's not how I do business. I didn't hesitate to pay them in full because I was certain based on reviews they would make the situation right. In the end I paid 4 guys, $50 an hour, each, to plant several trees.
