If you are considering buying a mattress from Ortho Mattress, 'BUYER BEWARE'. Buying a mattess at Ortho Mattress has proven to be one of the most harrowing experiences of my life. I went in to the Oceanside store in all good faith, and the salesman, Bruce Murray showed me a couple of mattresses. I mentioned to him that I had had a memory foam mattress, but although I found it comfortable, I was unhappy with it because it made me sweat. I also mentioned to him the fact that I have severe arthritis and very sore joints. He then showed me a Stearns and Foster Hypoallergenic Latex Mattress which he told sleeps cool, and is the only mattress that his Manager, who has been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia (like myself) could sleep on. He told me that this was a very pricey mattress, but because I am a senior living on social security, he would give me a very special deal and it would only cost me $2400. Hearing this price, I was nearly bowled over. This was twice as much as I intended to pay, but he assured that he would not have any problems waking up in the middle of the night in a bath of sweat as I was experiencing with my memory foam mattress, and that it would be gentle on my joints. He also offered me a finance plan which would enable me to pay it off at $200 a month over a period of 12 months. Based on his assurances, I decided to buy the mattress, and boy was this a mistake. As I discovered once I received it, neither of these things was true. I found that just as with the memory foam mattress I would wake up after four hours sleep in a bath of sweat, and find myself unable to go back to sleep. When I complained, I was referred to the 'Warranty Department', who then told me they could not help me because they only deal with 'structural defects' not 'comfort issues'. I was then referred to Sally, the manager at the Mission Valley Branch, and dealing with her and her side-kick Scotty was the most harrowing experience of the lot. Not only do they hardly allow you to get a word in when you are trying to outline your problems, they talk over you and try to shout you down. They show a totally callous lack of concern for your problems. Sally told me that I didn't know how lucky I was getting this mattress at $2400.....that normally, it was a $6000 mattress (another thing I discovered to be completely untrue when I called around and inquired at various Ortho branches). She then said that if I wanted to change it, I would have to buy something that was at least of equal value, plus I would be expected to pay a restocking fee of 20%. Being as senior living on social security, this put the fear of God into me that I would never be able to afford an exchange. She said if I wanted to avoid this problem, I should try putting two cotton sheets on the mattress and buying a Natura comforter (which I did.....the Natura comforter cost me nearly $300). Neither of these things solved my problems, however, and since I have had the mattress (a few months) I have lost 30 pounds from not getting enough sleep (I still wake up in a bath of sweat after four hours and am unable to go back to sleep). I tried repeatedly to call Sally during this period, and was told to leave a message, but I did not get a call back. Time passed, and when I finally got hold of her, she said she thought too much time had passed but she would look into it and call me back. She has not called me back or returned any of my calls. Eventually, her side-kick Scotty, who also showed a complete lack of concern for my problems, said that there was nothing that could be done. All I can say is, if you buy a mattress from Ortho and have problems with it, don't expect any concern, consideration or attempt on their part to do the right thing. They are completely callous and uncaring, your complaint will remain unresolved, and you will be stuck with an uncomfortable, expensive and completely unsuitable product. read more

Bruse was my sales guy. He seemed like he didn't known what he was doing but i was patient and told him it was fine. My mattress was supposed to be delivered today and I was told I would get a call the night before and again 2 hours before the delivery. I did not get a call the last night so I decided to call Bruce to find out what was going on. He assured me that the mattress delivery was on schedule and I would get a call 1 hour before. Well now we went from two hours to one hour.. I was a little put off but no big deal because I was not planning on going anywhere more than 15 minutes from my home. So I get a call from Bruce not even 15 minutes after this conversation saying the the delivery guys are at the door!!! And of course I was at Kohls at the time -_- . He told me they would not wait and would not deliver my mattress later in the day. At this point I am beyond pissed!!!! I have already taken my bed apart and its ready to be trashed. So i call the main headquarters and i could not get in touch with the customer service department to save my life. I left a message but never received a call back. At this point I'm wondering if this is some kind is scam!!!!! When I finally get in touch with the delivery department he tells me he'll make an exception this time and have my mattress delivered between 5 & 9 (originally not was supposed to be 10 & 2). So I'm a little worked up but definitely relieved that my daughter and I will have a place to sleep tonight.... Yet here I am at 10:23 pm... No sign of my mattress... Not even a courtesy call saying they will deliver it tomorrow...at least that way I can go to sleep and not continue to wonder wtf is going on. Now I'm back to the point of thinking this was a scam... I won't be sleeping tonight not only because I'm worried about the $1800 i spent on a mattress but because I don't have anywhere to sleep.... I needed a mattress so I stopped in at Ortho Mattress Oceanside. Since the mattress was for my new Murphy bed, there were a few parameters for the type of mattress I needed (not memory foam, minimum weight of 70 lbs, maximum height of 12"). Robert was extremely helpful and knowledgeable and showed me three great options that would work. I needed it right away, so Robert verified that next-day delivery was available. After gathering my info, I left to do some comparison shopping (per my husband's request). Later that day, however, I was back again at Ortho, since I was most impressed with what I had learned from Robert about Ortho's mattress quality, as well as the price. Once I was actually buying the mattress, there was a little glitch with the promised delivery date, but right away Robert made a call and insisted that my mattress be delivered the next day, as promised. And sure enough, it was, and it's perfect! I am very happy with my purchase, and was so impressed with the best customer service I received from Robert! The showroom is large, bright, and clean. They have a good variety of mattresses. Quite a lot of them but it didn't feel intimidating. All were tidy and inviting. There are designated parking spots right in front of the store, which is helpful in that often packed parking lot. Quite a few pros to this store, but what really made this place 5-star worthy was the service. Xavier really helped us out. We needed to find and order a mattress relatively fast. He easily guided us through the showroom to the ones that fit our needs. He was knowledgeable and provided very helpful information (info that you wouldn't find on the mattress placards), which allowed us to narrow down the choices. He didn't make any long-winded, time-consuming pitches and he respected our price range, all of which I sincerely appreciate. Xavier was simply very helpful. Mattress/bed shopping can be very difficult but Robert at the Oceanside Center made it super easy and actually fun. He steered me in the right direction and I purchased two beds from him and absolutely LOVE them. Super comfortable!
