I have been seeing Ortho VA since April 2026. I fell in my bathroom floor and tore both rotator cuff muscles in both arms. I saw Dr. Mariscalco and he was a class act. I could not have chosen a better Orthopedist. He did a reverse shoulder replacement in Aug 26 and I have had virtually no pain post-op. Their facility in Westchester, is the best. Dr. Mariscalco's team, from Carley Westbrook,PA to all the his medical assistant, are all top notch. You will not find better care by Dr. Mariscalco, his staff or anyone at this facility. read more

I am very disappointed in the surgical center on Schrader Road. I have a surgery scheduled for 7/17 and received conflicting information. A written document from an RN and a pamphlet was mailed to me with instructions. Today, I receive a voicemail with very different instructions concerning the need for a driver and no food/drink after midnight. I am not having anesthesia so today's message contradicts what I was told to do my written instructions! I called around 12:30 and left a message for clarification. no call back and my surgery is tomorrow! Very disappointed in giving me contradicting info and for not calling me back! This is not my first issue with communication issues from OrthoVirginia. I have the utmost respect and confidence in my surgeons (back and hand) and if not for them, I would go elsewhere. I LOVE my doctor (Dr. Herring) at OrthoVirginia, but I don't think I'll ever go back due to the billing office. - There is no billing office onsite. Everything is via email and if you have questions, you have to go through an outsourced billing/support company. They couldn't understand me (they weren't native English speakers) and they refused to escalate my case to a manager. - I spent THREE months with support trying to get them to see they had my bill incorrect and couldn't get anywhere. I myself had to finally research how to escalate it and get someone to listen to me. - Sure enough, they forgot to include how much I paid as a deposit on the surgery before the procedure. Simple enough - but took THREE months of run around. - In the meantime, I was receiving emails threatening to send my account to collections. I wasn't being negligent, I was consistently pursing support to get an answer, but nobody knows what anyone else is doing. They just send automated late notice/collections notices out without regard for if the patient is conversation with the billing office about the problems. This was by far the worst billing experience I've ever had. It took months to get to talk to someone who was English speaking and higher up than the contracted customer support/billing rep. If there had been a local office where I could go in with the bills they were sending me, and sit with them and SHOW them what my receipts paid showed versus what they were showing, etc. AARGH. As much as I love Dr. Herring, there must be another excellent orthopedic physician at an office that has better billing/customer service. It has now been SIX months past my surgery and I'm just getting to the bottom of things. The hours I have put into this are ridiculous, unnecessary, and disrespectful to the patient/consumer. Ortho Va with Dr. Brown (ankle/foot)...he was very curt, verbally aggressive and overtly expressive with his face in the negative sense. His questions were condescending. I have a hx of bone issues and knew before getting an Xray an MRI was likely on the horizon. Dealing with what I deduced was chronic pain from a broken ankle '22 that improved a bit but in the last yr has gotten worse. Dr. Brown spoke to as if I was wasting his time -though mine was clearly wasted. I would not recommend this provider. To add to the uncomfortable experience, I was able to hear him catering to another patient (male) in a very kind and respectable way. Specific to Bremo Rd location Horribly dysfunctional. First indication is parking. With 10 doctors booking 3 appts per hour each you'd think they'd need no more than 120 to 200 parking spaces. So why, with more than 2,000 parking spaces, cannot you not find a spot? Next. doctors overlooking is rampant. Seems there's 10 appts for each 20 min slot. That results in a standing-room only waiting room which extends into the atrium. I had a 10am appt and by that time they announced they were running 60 minutes behind! My suggestion ... avoid Ortho VA altogether but if you must go, go to one of their other locations. This lack of consideration for their patients is obviously driven by the partners' greed. My response to Rep. OrthoVirginia's comment. I have contacted the phone number listed on the statement (844-493-7933) several times, as well as the escalation team at 866-711-8014. Everywhere I received the same response: if the claim was approved by insurance, I am obligated to pay everything that wasn't covered. No one could explain why the price was five times higher, simply stating that this is their pricing policy and they are free to set any price, be it $700 or $10,000. They informed me there are no options for modifying the statement or making any adjustments. Since the knee brace charge has already entered the collections period, I am forced to pay the current statement. I asked if there was a way to pay everything except for the brace to allow further discussion, but they said there is no such option, and all incoming payments cover the oldest bills first. I find myself in a no-win situation. The entire payment structure at OrthoVirginia is designed to leave no room for discussion or resolution. The nurse was telling me the appointment was over and giving me my treatment instructions before I had even fully discussed the issue I was having with the person I had made the appointment with. I am on medicare and a supplemental ins. I had treatment in August, 2024 and just received a bill for $900 via text in January and again in February. I contacted the billing department in January and they did not even have my info to bill. The past few times I've come here, there has been a 30-90 minute delay in being seen. Yet, if the patient is over 10 minutes late, then their appointment would be canceled and charged a no show fee. Yes, I get things happen but things don't happen every single time. Patients are told to come 10 minutes early. With the technology that we have in today's society, there is no reason that physicians that are 30+ minutes behind cannot contact the patient to let them know. Patients that work, such as myself, may not have the luxury to come and go as we please from the workplace. Others may have to check for availability on the date and time of the appointment to ensure they are able to take the time off. All I'm saying is respect people's time in the same way that you want patients to respect the doctor's time. I started coming here prior to OrthoVirginia taking over. Thinking back on it, the practice was better before OrthoVirginia came bought out the previous practice. Sometimes bigger is better, but that's not always the case. I would give 0 star if I could. My husband had gone for neck and back pain upon recommendation from his primary care. He had the worst experience including first hand racism since we are Indians. He didn't even look at the reports my husband had taken with him since he had surgery previously and MRI scans that he took recently. Misdiagnosed by a physician assistant and told I needed an ortho glove. They make you sign a paper saying you will pay whatever the insurance doesn't cover. I have great insurance so didn't seem a problem. I didn't realize they charge $100 for the glove that you can get an identical one at Target for $25 retail. Insurance paid $35 and I had to pay $65. She guided me along every step and her team stayed in constant communication with me the days leading up to it. Morning of, I still had questions. Dr. Macdonald answered all my questions in pre-op and we went on. Afterwards was just as great. You go each time (even if you were just there last week) to the pay me booth and are asked for your id and insurance card--i get procedure--but at least act like you appreciate the fact that you have been a returning patient(customer) not just a bum off the street who is there for the first time. Then you state you cannot find the needed referral from you primary care physician while you are writhing in pain. You ask if you can pay in full for the visit and they refuse that. Im sorry but i lost my cool at that time. Focus on the money only mow ortho virginia because if medicare for all is approved you wont be driving $100,000 cars any longer. My husband has been a patient for Dr. Reece and for Sarah in physical therapy. I have been to over 10 appointments now and the staff is awesome, friendly, professional and courteous. They have been helpful in working out appointment times that work with our hectic schedule. The building, waiting rooms and therapy rooms all feel modern, clean and well-maintained. The staff we've seen has been very knowledgeable and patient in answering questions. The exercises they have given my husband they explain in a good way and he feels comfortable to do them in the right way now. It took another 10 minutes for Dr. Walker to come in the room for my initial appointment dislocated shoulder. He spent less than 2 minutes in my room telling me what there "regular" routine was for patients but never asked anything about me or my injury. He never even touched\examined my shoulder. (Posting on behalf of my elderly mother) I chose OrthoVirginia for my first hip replacement surgery-A poor decision, as it turned out. Treatment at OrthoVirginia was minimal, perfunctory and careless. Dr. Glenn Kerr, who perform my hip replacement surgery, could have risen above the slipshod approach. Unfortunately, and with dire consequences to me, he did not. Staying with my family postop, it soon became obvious that my condition required serious medical intervention. I developed huge oozing blisters, extreme pain and very limited mobility. I reached out to OrthoVA who said it was all normal. I was in agony though and went to the ER. From there, I was hospitalized with cellulitis (a condition which can be fatal) and then transferred to a medical facility I was treated for as well as blood clots. The blood clots were discovered by my primary care physician. And where was Dr. Kerr during all of this? Not in touch with me (I reached out several times asking for their help) though he was well aware. My second hip replacement was performed several weeks ago at MCV. This has been a different outcome. No infection, no clots, no blisters And pain very well controlled with a prescription I was able to give up after five days postop. Presently I am recovering predictably and gratefully at home. I would not recommend OrthoVA to anyone. Quite the opposite- I would warn everyone to steer clear and consider MCV instead. MCV's safety protocols and post op care is miles above OrthoVA's shoddy approach. read more

I recommend opting to choose another PT rather than use the group at OrthoVirginia. My girlfriend was almost 20 mins late had to park freaking 4 stories up in the garage across from them. Called and asked if she was okay to come in and not be turned away they said yes. So she proceeded to scooter all the way to the their office wait 10 mins in line and told no she cannot have her appt. That's beyond screwed up and will be sure to pass along this gem of customer/patient service to all my friends/colleagues and social media. I am very pleased with the surgery that my son had on his knee at Ortho Virginia. However, beware of their billing practices as I find they leave a lot to be desired. They have charged us for every follow-up visit related to his surgery. Secondly, they also have turned over to collection, without first invoicing or even speaking with us about a payment, less than a week after the appointment. Billing should not be considered delinquent until it's 30 days or more. Certainly, give people the opportunity to pay before you turn to a collection agency, which can also affect a person's credit report. I have had multiple knee surgeries and knee replacement and in each case, my orthopaedic follow-up appointments have been covered as part of the surgery itself and not. Additionally my orthopaedic practice also did not have to turn anything over to a collection agency as I had 30 days to pay. read more

They did not even take consent before selling the useless boot which costs $86 at Amazon however they charged $275 for the exact same thing which we had to pay out of pocket. I have carpal tunnel in both arms. my primary care dr recommended another hand practice but I looked at the reviews and chose Ortho. my initial visit was positive & I looked forward to relief but then after the evaluation, I had to fight to find out the results of my emg. I have no idea of the scale of mild to moderate carpal and no follow up even using MyChart. then I get billed a $1000 for the process. I now have to go to another practice & find my own phys therapy to determine proper care so condition does not get worse. the doctor is important but followup and information on next steps for a condition is equally important and Ortho did badly on all accounts read more
