terrible experience that caused me more pain. Susan, my PA, was terse and did not explain muc h about how to navigate living with a broken ankle. she dismissed it and my pain as no big deal. she had her assistant put on a boot that was too big. it was put on the wrong way and I was made to walk on it after less than 24 hours after it happened. when I tried to and collapsed in pain, the assistant left then came back and said I could use the crutches. the PA never came back to check off the boot was on right. when I asked for any advice- dos and donts- she was visibly annoyed with me. they just want to charge you for as much as they can and get you out of there. I was in more pain the next day from the improperly positioned and oversized boot. read more

It was a mess, no one on staff was able to work their computer system. They kept having me use my phone to do things for them they should be doing. For example their computer said my insurance required a referral. Which it does not. But i had to call my insurance and give my phone to the desk at ortho on call for them to hear it from the horses mouth. After which they took a co-pay but were instant the billing would end up wrong so we canceled the appointment so i could take my little one to an urgent care center that we know doesn't have this issue. But they couldn't figure out how to refund the co-pay so they gave me a number to call... after seeing everything going on here in figured i better call right then in-front of them. This was a good choice their company on the phone had no idea what to do and asked to talk to the desk so once again they were talk ON MY PHONE haha. They never could get it figured out. Maybe I get a refund maybe I don't but for sure we wont be here again. We left to go to a place that can work their computers. read more

Hurt my arm and it wasn't getting better. Went to this Ortho On-Call. All the staff were lovely, welcoming, and helpful. I was seen quickly, the nurse was wonderful and kind. They took three X-rays with no waiting and the Doctor came in with the results. They fit me with a brace, gave me a RX, and exercises to do after it improves, and a follow up appointment with an Orthopedic Office. All this only took 45 minutes from the time I walked in. My surgeon told me if my dressing got wet, I should go to the OnCall and have it re wrapped. They acted as if I was asking for major surgery. They didn't want to do it, I over heard the conversations. G. Vincent Dalton, MD contradicted my doc and then kept me waiting for what would have taken 5 minutes. My 5 year old has had several broken bones recently. I so appreciate Ortho on Call. For our past 3 visits, we were in and out in 45 minutes. It is then so convenient how they schedule your follow up visit at Ortho Virginia. All the doctors and staff we have seen have been friendly, helpful and kind to my 5 year old. I was referred here to reset a dislocated toe. No one there would actually set and pop it back in. They made excuses about what they saw on the xray and that a doc would have to do it at the ER and maybe I would need pins/surgery. When I got to the ER, an NP and a nurse in training set it. The attending agreed to just pop it back. The newbie nurse did a great job. The follow up doc A week later said the dislocation was a non event and he would have set it without lidocaine! So this simple easy procedure bewildered the staff of ortho on call. What's the point if they cannot treat the simplest injury? read more

Ortho on call in the West End. went in today for help with bruised ribs, based on the suggestion of my primary care. I was in excruciating pain and could not sit down or barely stand. Absolutely no one in the office cared at all to help me...they left me standing in a waiting room, sweating bad about to pass out from pain. The PA on duty was curt, rude, and after telling me I had 4 broken ribs, didn't even offer to help me out to my car to get to the ER. The staff was more concerned about chatting amongst themselves than helping patients. I honestly can't believe that an urgent care facility treated someone in agony with such disregard. I've been twice in a week- a 9 year old with an arm fracture (football with his little brother) and a 12 year old with an ankle injury from gymnastics- but the last time (12 year old) I went the X-ray tech told me to wait outside instead of going in with my 12 year old daughter. A few days prior it was no issue to go along with my 9 (almost 10) year old son. This won't happen again and I advise other parents of kids to be cautious. We recently took our child to the Three Chopt location for an emergency situation, received a relatively serious diagnosis, followed-up with their referred local sports ortho specialist - who was fantastic and very reputable, and found out the diagnosis from Ortho On Call was completely wrong and off base. To pay a deductible to see an emergency specialist, spend money on injury support equipment based on the diagnosis and then take time off from work and school for a follow-up referral only to reveal the pain is a result from "growing pains" was absolutely mind-blowing. Time and money wasted and lost. My hope is that the experiences at the other locations are not the same. But my guess is that if it has happened to me, I am certain it will - or already has, happened to other patients company-wide. As a consumer advocate, I diagnose Ortho On Call at Three Chopt with "growing pains" and cannot see myself recommending them. Trust is earned. read more

I had an issue on a Friday afternoon. The positive was that I only had to wait just under an hour to get called back to the waiting room. An x-ray was taken about 15 minutes later, after the necessary insurance related primary care referral process had to happen. The challenge was that the on call doctor did not exactly get the diagnosis right. Also, he prescribed a pain medication that was not necessary. For simple problems, this service may be more helpful than it was for me. I did not have any issues with staff, but the receptionist has a unique sense of humor. read more

I went in during the morning for an acute back pain issue. Signing in was quick and the receptionist was friendly. I did wait awhile in the lobby, but once I was taken back, everything moved pretty quickly. The lady who did my medical history/blood pressure, etc was new, and while she was very nice, I think she needed a little more training. The PA, however, was great. He took a lot of time to talk with me about what was going on, didn't order unnecessary xrays, and had a list of solutions for me to try. I never felt rushed or invalidated. He was compassionate, friendly, and best of all, he told it to me straight, which I appreciate. I believe his name was Anthony Rodrigues, and I wish he could be the PA at every doctor's office I visit! read more

It may "open at 9" but staff doesn't roll in until 9:15 or start taking patients until about 10. It's like the waiting room from Beetlejuice... expect to wait an eternity even if you're second in the door first thing in the morning. No stars if I could. Westbury location. The front desk was helpful. The intake nurse was helpful and kind. One of the x-ray techs were nice, the other one manhandled me. The PA I saw was a joke. Very rude, Laughed at me when I couldn't do part of her exam and was crying from the pain. I went in for back and hip pain. Couldn't even use the medical terms of what was going on with diagnosis. When she said what she was prescribing (steroids) I told her I could not take them because they have a major interaction with another med I am taking. She laughed at me and said she never heard of this. Said she was still prescribing them and to get ahold of my prescribing doctor of other med. He specifically said NO STEROIDS. Very unprofessional, rude and I do not recommend going here. Most doctors would have researched the interactions and possibly prescribed something else knowing this interaction could KILL someone. I came in with strained back muscles on the right side of my spinal cord. Arrived about 12:30; had been there before but still had to complete the same medical history. Put in an examination room and a few minutes later a staff person came in and asked a few questions including asking me to rate my pain on 1-10 scale(depends on what I am doing and rated it 2 to 5. Then I was told x-rays would be taken; waited about 15-20 minutes. Nothing to read in the examination room(good thing I had my book-on-tape). Sat in examination room for 15-20 minutes post x-ray and a PA(physician's assistant) came and completed a very good neurological exam. After a thorough explanation of findings by the PA, I was prescribed two meds: oxycontin for pain(every 6 hours) and cyclobenzaprine for muscle spasms taken once at bedtime. I did not use the former and the latter gave me heart palpitations that woke me out of sound sleep and continued for several hours. I called Ortho on-Call that morning saying I needed a different prescription because of the side-effects; the receptionist said she would place the message on their desk. 28 hours later no call back. I called again and the receptionist recognized my name and concern and put me directly through to the PA's desk area. Spoke to a woman who put on hold while she "checked with the doctor". She came back in about 2 minutes and told me the "doctor" said there were no other medications for spasms that could be prescribed. And I should continue taking the "narc"(oxycontin). Actually, there are other medications that could be used and guess the "doctor" was one of the PA's. Disappointed in the post visit management of a side effects. read more

Went in last night after a possible broken foot and front desk person was rude, first stating that I would have to wait to be seen and that I would be the last patient they would see. I got there alittle after 8 and they close at 9. I told her that my foot may be broken and I had no choice but to wait. The other people in the waiting room said they would let me go ahead of them bc they could see I was in pain. When she checked my insurance she said I wasn't active. I showed her my "my cigna" app showing her it was active and asked her to call Cigna. She said she didn't need to call bc her system said I didn't have active coverage and that I needed to pay. I called Cigna and then Cigna called her to verify my coverage. I have never been treated so bad at a medical facility. The other staff and doctor were nice and helpful, but I will not go back. Went in for an in person visit ...the two ladies at the front desk asked for my insurance card and id. I handed it to them and they both conversed about COVID-19 the whole time and one of them was talking smack about the lady who tried to come in before me with a daughter who had COVID. Got some X-rays for my right knee which pops in and out intermittently. The X-ray tech took 4 different pictures from different angles. The young lady asking me about my history was very nice as well as the lady who took my X-rays. That's the reason for the two stars instead of one. I waited in my room for the doctor to come and examine me and tell me about the X-rays. Cindy Runkle was the nurse practitioner who saw me and didn't listen to a word I was trying to say. She said my X-rays showed that there wasn't a lot of joint room in my right knee but then told me nothing seemed to be wrong after a quick examination. Even though my knee popped as she was examining it. It was swollen and red compared to my other knee. Would not recommend this location or Cindy Runkle. I was referred to Ortho on call at Westbury. Although the receptionist and tech and radiologist were pleasant, professional, and helpful, I found the nurse practitioner to not be as helpful as I 'had anticipated. I was referred by Partner's MD. I was left feeling that my issue was not fully addressed . The medicine I was prescribed and the advice given is something I will not be taking as it did not address my issues until I consult with by physician which related to the discomfort I am currently experiencing. I had already been taking Advil being aware that there was probably some inflammation She constantly referred to my doctor as my primary care physician, which is an insurance term. Concierge doctors are just your physicians, an assumption that doesn't apply to those of us fortunate to have private insurance coverage that does not require a primary care physician and allows one to make their own choices related to with whom they select to provide their healthcare. There was no physician there with whom I could speak and I had been dealing with this pain for several days. I'm glad I was able to get an x ray and hope that my physician will be able to use that information to give me some relief. Being a well educated Black female with a doctorate, I felt the nurse practitioner gave me responses that were not very helpful, and that I already had tried to no avail. I will be conferring with my own physician instead of relying on information I felt was not at all helpful, did not relieve my pain, and that left me feeling like what the nurse practitioner provided was something that was cavalierly said to just about any patient who might look like me, and walks thru their doors. I'm passing my impressions on to the practice at Partners MD. Perhaps other Ortho On-Call locations are more attuned to patients needs. After suffering with this issue for several days, the last thing I wanted to be told to me in a nonchalant factor was to wait longer and if its not better, they could contact one of their actual orthopedic physicians at another location and see what he says. Theses days it's hard to know why you're being passed along with little attention to your immediate discomfort, but it does raise a question I hoped we had stopped having to address in this country by now but sadly I'm constantly being forced to remember that maybe, even when not even meaning to, we have not. read more

My poor fiancé injured his shoulder playing kickball, and like most guys he was stubborn about going to see a Dr... BUT, I finally convinced him to get it checked out. My mom is an x-ray tech and she recommended we go to Ortho On-Call as they are the only 'urgent care' facility that has x-rays onsite. We got there around 6:20 and we waited a good hour and a half to be seen, which was a little frustrating since there weren't that many people waiting! But once we were taken back to the exam room, I was very impressed with the PAs and everyone we encountered. The x-rays were really quick and the PA-C even prescribed some anti-inflammatory meds and some higher strength pain meds for his discomfort. The PA-C even came back and went over the x-rays with us...Luckily nothing was broken! I would recommend this place as it is super convenient (especially with their later office hours - open til 9pm!) but just be forewarned, you're probably going to wait a while! read more

Would not recommend I came to Ortho on call after falling while cycling per a recommendation. I could not walk, bare weight on my legs, and I heard a pop during the injury. The doctor examined by legs diagnosis was left knee sprain with right and left bone contusions back to work in 24 hours although I could not walk or stand. They sent me home on crutches I could not use and 1 large bulky brace when I asked for two braces the question was which leg is the worse, WELL BOTH!! After going to VCU sports Medicine clinic for a second opinion and MRI I now understand that I torn both my meniscus and ACL in both my knees. My mom got me a walker from the pharmacy which was more help than this entire practice. ALL ORTHOPEDISTS are not created equal. read more

My main gripe about this place is they always insist on doing an X-ray yes alot of times x-rays are warranted but when you go in for Fibromyalgia aches and only need a shot to calm the ache down an X-Ray is not not needed nor will it help diagnose anything. They just want to run your bill up. I can guarantee before you have a chance to do anything except the paper work you're going to get an X-Ray; Doesn't matter what type of issue you're having. I noticed a lot of negative reviews and I just have to write a positive one. First of all my family and I have used this facility several times. Yes, sometimes it is very busy. If you can't wait, go to an ER. My husband and I have found them to be professional and helpful. After an ER told me my hand was not broken (and they were not nice about it either!), Ortho on call did find the break in their x-rays - more than one x-ray was taken. They made a comfortable cast for my hand - eliminated pain! - and sent me to my hand doctor for further work. When they take x-rays, they take a lot of them so they don't miss anything. They have listened to and believed me. They are not a substitute for you orthopedist, but they will do an excellent and thorough job to get you "over the hump." Expect to wait because they are giving the earlier patients the quality care that you want for yourself or you family member. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. I am post operative from knee replacement surgery and needed them to take a look at my leg. It didn't warrant an ER visit so I thought I would give them a try. I walked in and was told they were closed and couldn't be helped. I respect working hours but the smirky attitude and response that they couldn't help was annoying. It seems my experience was just like the majority of the reviews. When I walked in everything seemed great, waiting room was clean and the front desk staff member was friendly. Another family got upset because they had been waiting for an hour and a half. When I heard that I was about to get a refund for my copay. However, the receptionist told the family they were next so I decided I would wait around. Soon after that the receptionist got up and went outside. Moments later we(the entire waiting room) heard his verbal escalation outside with someone. I complained because it was very unprofessional and startled the child with the family waiting. The family that had been waiting then decided to get their copay back and leave. Which meant I was next to go back. A lady walked in to be seen during the craziness and almost immediately walked right back out. So they lost 2 patients during such a short period of time. The technician that brought me back was nice enough. The xray technician was very nice and prompt once I was placed in the exam room. I'm writing this as waiting for the doctor to come review my results in hopes this review spares someone of having this same experience! read more
