My former orthodontist retired and had transferred over my Invisalign case to dr.Shen. When I had asked to get my case transferred over to a different orthodontist closer to me, they had asked me to come in for a consultation. I have no idea why I would even need to do that when they wouldn't even be the ones who end up doing my treatment. I've been a patient here for 2 1/2 years and with my time with braces they couldn't even straighten my teeth. My bite doesn't align my front teeth aren't straight, and when I asked about them fixing some issues I didn't like the doctor wouldn't really listen to my request. My teeth stayed the same for 5 months before I got my braces off with that time they could've completely straightened out my teeth. Before getting my braces off I informed them about the type of retainers I requested and they didn't make them so I had to wait 2 weeks for it to be made and my teeth still haven't shifted back. First and Foremost a very delayed review! I'm in my Senior years, and my teeth were becoming crowded, to the point, that my bite was getting worse and worse to the point of biting my cheek at times when trying to chew my food. My dentist would check my teeth and say your teeth are becoming more crowded, and he said we can take care of this for you with Invisalign. I had researched Invisalign before and I already knew who I would go to when the time comes to get this done. Well.... the time came right during the break of Covid and long story short by the Grace of God, I was able to obtain an appointment with Dr. Shen, but I had already been seen by him prior to Covid and had some preliminary work done about my teeth and the length of treatment I would need. I'm still under treatment with Orthoworks Dr. Shen and still faithfully wearing my liners. Dr. Shen and his staff are the best, so very professional, understanding. On a rare occasion I've had to call after hours and on a weekend, long and behold a returned call from faithfully yours Dr. Shen. Thank you Dr. Shen for taking care of my teeth especially in my Senior Years. I was a patient at the milpitas office for about 3 years. At my initial consultation Dr. Shen mentioned two things. 1. My treatment would be appx 1.5 years. 2. Due to my facial profile, they reccomend NOT pulling any teeth since it would change my whole facial structure to an unfavorable preference. He mentioned it would push back my face and cause it to be elongated which would be worse even as I age and lose bone mass. I said great! I don't want to remove any of my teeth if i don't have to. I signed up and went to my first appointment. I recieved a different doctor for the remainder of my time here. The doctor did EVERYTHING Dr. Shen said they shouldn't and won't do. They pulled 4 bicuspids out and my face is a different shape, elongated, loss of cheek bone stuctures that i used to be complimented for. My mouth is pushed back and my face looks old granted i am only 27... instead of getting a response from people that my smile looks great, i get oh my gosh you look old.... When i see myself in the mirror oor pictures i hate them. I feel like this iS such a crimee. To be so irresponsible with someones mouth and face that you dont have to lIve with. Its not fair or right that this officee doesnt take their jobs moRe seriously. If this were to happen and they knew it wAs going to happen-- they shoukd have suggested an alternative... like just straightening out the bottom teeth i was consious about with innvisalign Without the removaL of teeth. In addition, i had 3-4 different doctors that were always focusing on doing somethjng different to my teeth. Towards the end if my treatment dr. Shen happen yo be there in which he notice my initial plan was slated for 1.5 years.. he proceeded to yell at me like a child saying i shoukd be done, and i "should charge you more"..... i was furious because first of all, you lied to me at the consultation to get me to sign up with a deposit. I wanted to rave about OrthoWorks. This is now the second office that I have gotten work done in with Ortho Works and it has continued to be unprofessional and dishonest. I had issues with regular braces and needed to do Invisalign. The issues I was having I was told "was not in the literature" and I was asked if I could be pregnant. When I told the doctor I was in fact not pregnant she continued to say, "It sounds like you could be pregnant." couldn't believe this conversation was actually happening. In doing my own research, the symptoms I was having are very much reported by people who cannot do metal braces and or latex. Moving on to Invisalign, I was given latex bands and started having the same symptoms. Nausea, headaches, brain fog and fatigue. One day I forgot to wear my bands and my symptoms cleared up. I called the previous office I had attended and they sent me the only size of non-latex bands they carried and gave those to me. They were very thick and it didn't seem right that I started with a size much thinner and I was given a very thick size. I could barely open my mouth and my trays were bending. When I called the Milpitas office, the dentist told me this would be fine. So I did some research myself and found out that it in fact would not be fine and could disrupt my treatment. They then said, "You can wear them at night and you'll be just fine. I refused. I called them today to see if my bands were ordered and they said I could get them at my next visit, which is 6 weeks out from my last appointment. I got a call today from their supervisor who is now saying, "Dr. Shen wants you to stop your bands." Uh, hello! I don't have any bands to use. Keep in mind, the latex bands I received in the beginning I was told to wear all the time and to never skip. And now your changing your tune because my bands maybe haven't been ordered? Not to mention the dentist who felt it was appropriate to ask me what kind of underwear I was wearing because of my latex allergy!! This is neither any of her business nor is it professional. I was also not informed that the attachments placed on my teeth from the first visit were not able to be placed on correctly due to their equipment being broken. I will actively be pursuing finding another office for my dental treatment. This place is not to be trusted!!! read more

I went there for braces consultation due to the positive yelp reviews, such as - reasonable price, great customer service.... May be it's me being unfortunate that I got the most expensive and ridiculous treatment fee from them, out of five orthodontists I visited. The fee difference is not solely $300-500, it's ~$1700 to 2000 each more expensive than other orthodontists, and this is AFTER deducted the $1500 insurance coverage. I am not talking about difficult and complicated braces treatment, this is just basic treatment for teenager, inclusive of expander RPE, metal braces and retainer. Moreover, it's two of us doing the braces treatment at the same time. And we're each being charged at ~$5k to 7k range. Are you kidding me? I told Karla frankly, I am shock with their fees. She told me she will talk to her supervisor and get back to me 2 days later, but it's been more than 1 week and no update from her. Is this consider good customer service, or they are shy away with their over-priced treatment fee? or is it me being unlucky that I have to deal with this? read more

I transferred my treatment here when I moved to the area a few months ago. The staff here are very nice and helpful. I came in for a consultation and they put together the estimate and took care of my insurance process. They are upfront on prices and very candid on the process. Dr Shen is amazing. He is always smiling and looks personally at your treatment and plans everytime you come in. They definitely straightened out my bottom teeth. I'm less happy with my upper teeth. My top teeth are mostly straighter and align better in the middle, but they were pretty straight before. Plus the small gap in my front teeth has lessened to be more like it was when I was a kid and my teeth were more tightly packed (I had extra teeth up top when I was a kid and this gap didn't exist) However, I feel my smile looks worse, especially in pics. My front teeth are now further forward than my other teeth and it shows in photos. So overall good, but not 5 stars They also didn't give me a real or hard retainer at the end. They just gave me four more Invisalign trays, all the same. I don't think it will be adequate in the long run with how I clench my jaw. They will wear out quickly read more

I've been coming here for about 3 years and all I have to say is they have done a remarkable job with the final result of my teeth. I recently gotten my braces removed and everything is absolutely perfect! I started coming here at the age of 16 when my teeth were very horrid. Lots of crowding. I consulted with at least 5 other orthos (before coming here) and was told I HAD to have teeth removed because I was too old for other procedures that would keep all my teeth; and I really didn't want teeth removed. After I consulted here, they gave me the option to have attempt expanders. They were mindful and respectful of our decisions and informed us of the best options to go forward with. The staff are incredibly kind and patient. In my experience, I don't think there is a single rude employee there. Since I started my treatment here, everything has been smooth sailing. The following is what happened to me. I once saw three orthodontic dentists before choosing this orthodontic clinic. All three dentists said that I must extract my teeth, otherwise the teeth will be in a burst state after extraction. But when I came to this clinic, I met Dr. Shen and he said that I don't need to extract my teeth for orthodontics, because my wisdom teeth have been extracted and there is still room for adjustments. So I happily chose his plan. It lasted for two and a half years. I gradually found that my teeth became more and more explosive, and the shape of my face became more and more strange. During this period of treatment, I mentioned my teeth protruding many times, but they seems try to ignore it. During the dental period, I kept changing dentists, and I don't know which doctor to discuss with my teeth. I was expecting that maybe the bursting state would disappear after the whole treatment , but I was wrong. The moment I pulled out the braces, I found that my teeth were still bursting and my face looked uglier than before. But I know it's too late. If you are a beautiful woman and want to adjust your teeth, you really have to choose a dentist carefully. Before this, I was very satisfied with my appearance, but not anymore. Dr. Shen has been my primary doc for about 6.5 months and I just finished phase 1 of my Invisalign treatment. I couldn't be happier about the result. The polishing process doesn't hurt at all. Every time I need to come in - which fortunately isn't too often - everything is easy and peacy from check in/check-up to schedule next appointment. I usually don't have to wait more than 15 minutes. I've also seen 2 other docs during Dr. Shen's occasional absence, they were also very nice and patient with questions. I recommend Orthoworks to my friends as well. I believe nothing better shows the truth than a picture (took while finishing phase 1, new aligners coming in 4 weeks). Pls only look at my teeth, not my face. I went in just to see if my insurance was allied with this company and right then and there the front clerk Karla greeted me real well and professionally and was able to get me a Xray the same day and to get my braces put on. NO APPOINTMENT, but great customer service. Karla is so nice and generous and explained everything to me as well as working out with my low income finances; with not having a job the down payment was broken up and made the payments convenient for me I was then introduced to Janet who is high spirit and nice as well. She is a comedian by the way she made my worries, stress and nervousness level decrease tremendously. She got me ready and excited to get the braces on as she carefully and genitally put them on with me not feeling a thing. Doctor David Shen and the entire OrthoWorks team is just incredible and amazing people. Everyone is nice and welcoming to you rather first time or returning visitor. I had an estimate from a previous ortho office and they were going to charge me close to $6k. I went to get a second opinion and got referred to Orthoworks by my primary dentist. After my check up, X-ray and all that, Orthoworks gave me a quote of just close to $3k. I'm like "Are you sure?" So I decided to go with them instead. Hmm, So where do I start with this place. Oh, yeah that's right, I've been a patient with Orthoworks for almost 8 years now. My two older siblings went through Orthoworks way before that, so I guess you can say I'm just continuing the legacy. I was a patient with a really bad case of the underbite. It was so bad I couldn't even bite into a burger normally because i would lose pieces of veggies from not being able to bit down onto it. In the beginning, I didn't want the surgery for worries about my bite and such, so I just did the braces to adjust my teeth to be as straight as possible. My teeth were all straightened out after two years, and I had my braces off by the time senior year of HS came around. After 2 years of college, I decided that my bite still wasn't as functional as I want it to be, so I went back in for a second round of braces. I went through surgery for both jaws and now everything is exactly where I want it to be, thanks to the team at Orthoworks! I just started my Invisalign a month ago. Before that, they gave me a lingual arch to expand my upper teeth. Everything has been good so far. Both Dr. Shen and Dr. Lam are wonderful, but after I changed my appts to Mondays (when Dr. Lam is in), I started to really like Dr. Lam. He's very gentle and knowledgeable, ready to answer all the questions/concerns you may have. I feel safe and assured under his care. They also have very good and capable assistants. It seems to me they are ALL good and pleasant to be around. I got a lot of laughter from them. I can't remember all their names. Doreen is one that I remember. Her title is actually "supervisor." Highly recommended! The receptionists and admin staff are all extremely kind, considerate, and open-minded people. I especially like Melisa and May. They are a joy to interact with. I had many appointments with some of the best Orthodontists in Bay Area before Orthoworks. My only concern was to get the best treatment for my teeth as my teeth were crowded. Apparently I was offered a good deal with/without insurance for Orthodontist however i was lil apprehensive to go there. I can't take the name of the orthodontists here at yelp. I went through Yelp reviews and personally been there, I wasn't satisfied with the treatment plan. Just had the most pleasant visit ever! Absolutely pleased with their staff and the consultation. Dr. Liu, assistant Tina and their finance personnel Tina made this visit painless. First, among the orthodontist offices I visited, this is the most reasonablely priced place! The good: the office manager is very nice and friendly, not pushy at all! explained the payment option thorough and clear, very honest! Other staff were nice too. The not so ideal: they only do traditional braces, no damon! Dr. Liu was polite, but seemed a little "out of date", when I asked some new treatments that mentioned by other Drs, she had no idea about them. And she sounded honest when I asked what kind of result I should expect, but meanwhile less passionate about how to achive the best results, more like she was just doing a job and not anything more than that. Unlike the other places, they did not take any picture or x-ray, the Dr checked my teeth briefly by hand. Overall, this is the most affordable place among the orthodontist offices I visited. But I am still debating on whether I should have my braces there, I did a lot of research, and most people say it is the Dr, more than the brace that move teeth, the Dr's skill is the most important part, I did not have 100% confidence in Dr. Liu after the initial consultation yet. Maybe I will visit them again. While for the office manager, this is definitely one of the most comfortable one. I will update later if i make a decision. read more

I decided to get braces when I was 22 years old because I wanted my teeth to be straighter. I know that they weren't horrible, but there was room for improvement. Although I was an older client, I was treated great! Actually, now that I think about it a lot of their clients were adults :) Anyway, when I had appointments I was always in and out. I'm giving Orthoworks five stars for several reasons. First off, appointments always run on time. The staff is always friendly and cheerful... not just with me but with my children. In addition to that my kids are fearful of dentistry from past experiences, and one of my children has special needs... Yet my kids have never been afraid hair or hurt by this team. Ortho works have always treated my children with warmth and respect. I have gone through braces with both of my kids and now they are into retainers. I had to special circumstances where I got to see this office go above and beyond what you would think a business like this might do. One afternoon I locked the keys in my car and was in a lot of trouble being far from home. We traveled from Santa Cruz to Milpitas for our visits. Much to my surprise Monica in the office pulled out her AAA card and made a call. She had my car towed all the way home back to Santa Cruz. I was beside myself with gratitude. And finally after a tragic accident earlier this year I was left to being a single parent on a single income. The office was very understanding and did what they could to help me with payment arrangements when my daughter lost her retainers the first week of having them. When it seemed like nothing could go right, Orthoworks came through and was gracious with me during a difficult financial time. I've had orthodontic treatment before, so i have a great comparison. First of all-REALLY quick at getting you seated. I go in, sign into the computer, and within 5 minutes I'm called in. My past ortho was terrible, waiting time was about 45 minutes. Yeah, pretty much spent my whole day there. D: Second-ONLINE REMINDERS! they're soo helpful. I love that I go to a place that utilizes technology as opposed to snail mail. Third-Friendly service. There's always something to talk about with the assistants/orthodontists. I have a lot of homework, and all my appts are on weekdays, so any place with so much efficiency gets an A+ from me. Should be done with braces by summer-fall of this year. We brought my autistic son in this Orthoworks San Bruno branch fearing that my son will not be able to stand the process of having an Invisalign in his mouth because of his overlapping teeth.
