    Beef teriyaki with rice

Gone fishing... I decided to give this place a try after seeing the ratings being so high, I am a bit intrigued. (As you know I am always a bit skeptical about high rating cause some ppl give 5 stars just cause the chopsticks have a smiley emoji on it... :rolleyes). This place is located at the new Save on Food plaza on 104th avenue. Inside the restaurant is quite clean with a casual atmosphere and setting. There were about 3 tables of customers when I was greeted and seated. So it wasn't busy BUT waited over 15 minutes before I got some tea and water and another 10mins before the waitress came and took my order (throughout the time the waitress was just cleaning here and there... :palmface) Anyways, let's check out on how accurate the reviews are for their food. Here were the food I ordered; 1. Appetizer tempura. Nice light fluffy crunch. Not bad 2. Teriyaki beef (comes with miso soup and rice). The miso soup was basic but hot (that's good), rice was cold and a bit on the mushy side, teriyaki sauce was pretty good but the beef was tough and chewy. (After a few bites, gave up on this dish). 3. Assorted sashimi. All the fishes were fresh and of generous proportion. However the price is slightly more compared to nearby places with similar dish. 4. Salmon, toro, ikura, tamago nigiris. Everything was decently fresh but too much rice and the rice needed a bit more seasoning. 5. Kingdom roll (lobster roll). It was okay, kingdom may sound a bit too dramatic when it's almost on the fence of being a typical lobster roll. (I had better ones) Overall, the sashimi and sushi were pretty fresh, just that the sushi rice was a bit lacking in seasoning. (Remember! Good sushi rice is the heart to good sushi so need some improvement in this department). As for the beef teriyaki, the beef was quite dry and chewy (95% of the restaurants cook this dish wrong so you are not alone). I think it's safe to say within 5 minute driving distance, there are a handful of better sushi places and a bit lower in prices too. The service failed during the beginning and only gotten a bit better toward the end after a shift change (seriously, courtesy water or tea should be given within 5 mins after a customer is seated). However just like I said, it did got a bit better toward the end after the next shift of servers arrived. In conclusion, the food was pretty basic and needed some improvements. The service... gone fishing... so I say a 3 star would be fair and more real.

Was a little skeptical at first, as I have someone who is from Osaka. We were hesitant on trying but gave it a shot anyway since most other Ramen shops were mediocre. While the food is not 100% authentic Japanese food, and was a bit pricy for the portions, to my surprise I actually really liked it. The 'Sexy Dance Roll' was pretty unique, nothing I have tried before. And the waiter was very nice, lots of space and clean washroom. Will come back again with larger groups in the future.

    Couldn't wait!

Menu: Chawan mushi - steamed egg custard with vegetable(bean, shimeji mushroom) and seafood(shrimp and slice of fish) Ankimo - Monkfish Liver with seasonal seafood(scallop and shrimp) Grilled black cod, with saikyo miso and marinated blue fin tuna and cooked egg. Tenpura - seafood (slice of fish, seafood stuffed vegetable and vegetable(shiitake) 9 pieces of sushi Daily miso soup - clam Dessert - kinako and mitarashi dango Chawan mushi was great. I can taste fish based broth and egg custard was very silky and smooth. Decent amount of ingredients sush as shrimp, slice of fish , bean and shimeji mushroom. I wish they served it slightly cooler than too hot. Ankimo - Great item. Monkfish liver was rich and paired with scallop and shrimp so well. Sauce was just ok. Grilled black cod was another great item. Crispy and juicy, just perfectly done. Blue fine tuna was covered by salty marinated sauce which was great when wrapped with seaweed. Cooked egg was just ok Tenpura - Seafood stuffed vegetable was my favorite. Others were also decent. Highlight and stand out item was 9 pieces of sushi. Honmaguro(bluefine tuna) was good. Shari(sushi rice) was nicely seasoned with vinegar, very mild and which I liked it. Tuna was delicious. Sea breem(MADAI) was another good piece. Delicious. Aburi Toro was nicely seared. I wish this item could be a bit more softer and buttery, but it was still good. Akaebi(red shrimp) and Hokkaido sea urchin - Lightly torched the top of sea urchin and its smokiness brought out more sweetness flavor of Akaebi(red shrimp) Hokkaido Scallop - Very smooth, soft and nice texture. Delicious. Kinmedai(Gold eye snapper) -- My favorite. Texture was very soft and chewy, It was great item. Hokkaido sea urchin - Actually, this one was just ok. I wish it could be more creamy. Unagi - One of the best item. It was so fluffy and soft right after chef cooked and served. This is a must try item. Daily miso soup with clam - I can taste fish broth (dashi) flavor so well. Clam was delicious. It was good. Dessert - Kinako coated mitarashi dango -It was nicely chewy and soft. I wish there were more sauce on it. Overall, it worth visiting this place. The only problem is that so hard to get a reservation. Hopefully, I can get next reservation, may be next year.

We love Japanese cuisine so I decided to surprise the hubby with an omakase for his birthday in January. Unfortunately, they have a 6-month wait and I was not prepared so I ended up booking it for our anniversary in May. The food was phenomenal and delicious! I love the chawanmushi loaded with goodies inside. The ankimo (monkfish liver) dish was so tasty with the scallop and prawn. Black cod was cooked to perfection! The nigiris are all so fresh. We quickly put ourselves on the waiting list for after September so we can come here again soon! There's a parking lot just next door. The place inside is small and intimate. Service is great!

Food arrived after 15-20 minutes. Didn't enjoy the appetizer sashimi. The temperatures were warm. Working in quality assurance in the seafood industry made it extremely difficult for me to be satisfied. Prawn tempura and agedashi tofu were delicious. Chicken katsu was dry. Beef teriyaki was excellent. Lots of indoor seating. Modern decor. Clean. It would be better if you assign servers to specific table. We had 3 different servers come to our table and we had 2 extra miso soup. We had 2 different servers ask the same questions a few times. All in all, good experience.

Pretty brave if you ask me for a special occasion but it turned out well. The started out around six o'clock on a Sunday for dinner so it was pretty early. They are having a 10% off your bill so it eventually got fairly busy. The decor is clean and refreshing with a fair number of seats. The staff were friendly and welcoming. I did let them know that their google place pin was in the wrong place and sending customers in the wrong direction...oops! The food was good, smaller portions and a little pricey. Tasty tho, they had my favourite Oshi Saba, my partner's; negintoro, spicy chops scallop roll and for main he had the vegetable udon and I had the Pork Katsu. Good food, nice atmosphere, be prepared to spend a little more.
