I remembered 12 years ago, Green Leaf Sushi charges $60 for the same aburi platter. Looks like they had to reduce their prices. For such a good deal on a platter, I thought they are going to be super busy. To my surprise B and I showed up for dinner and they were pretty empty. The aburi sushi were delicious. My favorite was the Yukke Tuna. I liked the salmon aburi too. My least favorite was the ebi aburi and that was because it had black olives. I personally hate black olives. I can't stand the taste. B said he liked the ebi aburi. The ambiance and decor of the place was good. The aburi platter was the best deal I have seen so far. We will definitely be back.

I'd definitely want to go back to try out these items. We mainly stuck with nigiri and rolls. Chawanmushi- I vaguely remember it used to having a piece or two of seafood. It only had a piece of chicken and vegetables. I felt it was a bit too loose, but the flavour was what I remembered. Nigiri (hamachi toro, seared salmon toro, ika shiso, mega negi toro)- all fresh. The hamachi toro was fatty. The salmon toro was seared just enough. Ika was complemented well with the shiso. Overall the amount of rice to fish ratio was good. Chopped scallop roll- it was a bit on the smaller side, so I think I'd rather order nigiri. But the chunks of scallop were still good. Overall, service was good, the vibe of the restaurant is nice, and quality of food is great for the price. This used to be a restaurant I frequented a lot and honestly I don't know why I stopped. I'll be adding this back into my rotation of Japanese restaurants.

They've hired at least 2-3 more staff after a brief renovation, so the service is a lot quicker now. But the good thing is that its remained a nice place to sit and chat without the feeling of being rushed, despite there always being a lineup around the door. I haven't seen as many unique, ever-changing weekly specials as I once did, but if you've never been, you'll be overwhelmed with options already. They do u-pick nigiri, torched nigiri, deka nigiri (overflowing), sushi rolls and hot food The fan favourite is the thick cut, deluxe sashimi platter for $28, fit for sharing with another person or a larger group. My personal tip is to order the Gyutan (grilled beef tongue) if you have a craving for skewers, but not the price of the skewers. I would also recommend trying the deep fried soft shell crab or the ankimo (monkfish liver). If you have the chance to try their BBQ fish heads, that's also a treat and a full meal in itself.

The gyozas were very nicely done with a crispy outside and juicy filling. It was not oily too. The salad was very fresh with a light dressing. Maybe the sushi and sashimi would have been a better option. I will still come here to try other stuff in future.

We got a total of 3 boxes. Beef teriyaki, chicken teriyaki, and salmon sashimi donburi. All three of them were great. They had a variety of sides some differing from box to box. This made it harder to choose what we wanted, but ordering all 3 allowed us to try a little from each box. There wasn't an item that was not good. Loved the variety, freshness, and flavours. The most difficult part of coming to this restaurant is parking. However, that won't discourage us from coming again.
