Not the same as before. Literally asked for a booth (which customers just left from) was told to wait 5 minutes, so we do. Witnessed the waitress literally serving everyone water but cleaning the table we were told to wait 5 mins for. We stood at this small restaurant for 15 mins and walked out after. I know the previous owners of Guildford Sushi, and they were known for their affordable and huge sushi portions - it was the go-to spot for hospitality, big savings, and just getting full! Now, the new owners seem to have taken a different approach.They've got this awesome 3-item combo that I highly recommend! The crunchy sushi is great. I was craving sushi so I searched for the closest restaurant by guilford mall. I ordered the veggie combo A which came with an avocado, yam and cucumber roll. The food was delicious and their interior was beautifully decorated, reflecting aspects of Japanese culture. The overall layout was cozy. I'm glad I discovered this place today. This place is known amongst my friends for their quaint interior and massive rolls. I ordered the dynamite roll and nigiri combo and their sushi was huge, but I found that its large size was mostly due to the amount of rice in each piece. I have no complaints about the fish on the nigiri, but it seemed each piece was hiding a hefty amount of rice, while the rolls were also cushioned with a too-generous layer. Overall, this would be a good place to go if you're craving sushi and want your stomach filled, or if you just really like sushi rice. read more

I used to come here when I was in highschool in the 2000s and this place basically hasn't changed since. I decided to make a quick stop here while visiting Surrey because I couldn't find the good place that used to be in near Guildford Park secondary. The portions are huge and prices are very fair. Quality is mediocre at best but seems like there are not that many good alternatives in Surrey anymore. The rolls have a lot of filling but also lots of rice so 2-3 rolls will fill you up FAST. Fillings are very basic tasting and the rice is on the mushy side Tempura is crispy but something in the batter makes it very sweet and overpowers whatever was tempura'd. This place isn't terrible but I'd probably try harder finding a sushi place next time. Good enough if you're really hungry like I was. read more

Good sushi! Generous serving and the flavour isn't too bad. Service is fast and ordering by phone is not that difficult. The store has a clear pick-up system (arrows and signs all over!). I have been going to guilford sushi house for years now, and every time the sushi is always good, this place is a hidden gem. The portions are the biggest in all of BC I swear. The rolls are HUGE, yet super affordable and one of the cheaper places around, along with the size of the nigiri. The restaurant may look small, but if you have a bigger group, they have 2 Japanese style booth rooms in the back which is really fun and private. The staff is very nice and fast as well. This place is good if you are looking quantity over quality. There is no refinement and sushi seems to have been made for giants. We got two rolls and they both tasted same and very mediocre. Since the sushi is huge it's also difficult to eat. But the saving grace is the sashimi. Though we had to cut the sashimi to smaller pieces ourself as the sashimi also seemed too be cut for giants but the quantity that we got for the price was great. This is my favourite sushi restaurant. It's super small and cozy and just perfect for someone who's looking for a casual place to eat. It's very relaxed here and the service is great. My boyfriend and I have become longtime regulars here and with good reason! The food is exactly how I like it and I especially love that it's a small local restaurant. I was initially going to another restaurant, but realized it was about to close. Looking for something else to eat, I stumbled across Guildford sushi house. I ordered miso soup, some special rolls, chicken teriyaki and shrimp tempura. The miso soup was tasty and hot, just how I like it. The shrimp tempura was fresh and hot which was nice to see. I've been to sushi places where the shrimp tempura is cold, which is disappointing. At this point, my stomach was craving some carbs, so I tackled the chicken teriyaki. The warm rice and crispy, breaded chicken drizzled in delicate teriyaki sauce was just what I had craved for. I next tried the sushi. I had a deep fried sushi roll which had cream cheese and all I can say is 'wow'. The creamy interior was amazing. I will definitely order again. We ordered the mango roll and spicy tuna rolls which were good, but too big for my mouth. I think smaller rolls would be great so that it will fit in one bite. I enjoyed the sushi but couldn't finish because of the other food I had. Overall, it's one of the better sushi places I've been to. I would recommend it for sure. read more

This place has become my go-to sushi spot in Surrey! It's definitely not a 5-star fancy restaurant, but for a quick lunch or dinner, this is probably the best in Guildford. The servers are always super friendly and welcoming, and it's one of those family style restaurants where you come in and fill up on gigantic sushi rolls. The spider roll is always one of my favorites, and being an avacado lover, the avacado rolls are heaven for me. The salmon sashimi is also a great choice, as the pieces are huge and taste really fresh. I always come by for a meal and grab a few more rolls to go! This is a sushi restaurant run by Vietnamese speaking staff. The menu selection is small. However, the service was very good and food arrived quickly. We stopped by for an early dinner and were the only customers for a short bit before a couple other tables of customers arrived. We were seated right away with tea and menus dropped off. Our server then dropped off extra plates for sharing without us asking. We asked for extra wasabi and the sushi chef honoured the request generously. The best value was the Special Roll Combo ($7.25) which included a BC roll, California roll and cucumber roll. I was really full from the amount of rice they used to make the rolls. My date ordered a chopped scallop roll and Mix Combo B. The quality of the food was average. However, the service made the dinner experience really enjoyable. Staff were good at refilling tea as well. Also, the restaurant was relatively quiet so I could enjoy my food rather than listening to other people's conversations. read more

It may only accept cash and CANADIAN DEBIT CARDS but the experience truly delivers. The server who helped us was a gentleman who was quite attentive. We dove in to the menu by ordering Party Plate D at $C 48. Not only we got delicious rolls and nigiri, the food was amazing and was more than enough for all 4 of us. If you're looking for cheap decent sushi and Seattle had been disappointing you (unless you really shell out $$$), you should go here. Bring cash and be wary that parking may be limited. if I could give zero stars I would. I ordered a California roll came home and ate the first piece after moving the second piece around I found a piece of CHEWED UP GUM. Yes you read that correctly CHEWED UP GUM. It's not very clear in the photo because I took it back to the shop after I spoke to them on the phone. The worker took the gum in his hands and shredded it up calming it's "paper" when in reality it is GUM. I'm frustrated because I was having a terrific day until this happened. They were rude and I told them that I would tell all my friends and family to never come back and that this is absolutely RIDICULOUS to happen in the middle of a PANDEMIC! They didn't seem to care at all and said "sorry but it's paper". Awful place and rude, very dirty, worst place for sushi. DO NOT BOTHER COMING HERE AT ALL!! HUUUUGE SUSHI! The rolls are huge! It is so filling. Normally, i can eat an average of 3 rolls of and feel absolutely stuffed but here, I only need 1 and 1/2 rolls of sushi to get me in a food coma. The sushi in general isn't the best but you get more than what you pay for. They don't have anything extravagant but just the ordinary california, dynamite, chopped scallop etc. The sashimi isn't quite fresh - you can tell they put it in the freezer because when I was served my sashimi, it was of slush consistency. Nonetheless, the service is friendly and attentive. The ambiance is alright, it's clean but it's quite small. Their isn't much seating and it's quite busy majority of the time. Overall, it's a fine place to grab a quick bite of sushi. It's worth the money and you'll leave feeling satisfied, i promise! read more

Guildford Sushi serves bloated maki rolls so large that it's impossible to fit one piece into your mouth. Think Sushi King. Think Samurai Sushi. Alaska Roll - smidge of salmon. Smidge of avocado. Lots of rice. LOTS of imitation crab. House Roll - Alaska Roll repeat, plus a smidge more of tuna and weird grey-coloured tamago. LOTSSSSSSSSSSS of imitation crab (I ain't kidding around with my caps lock)!! Spicy Tuna Roll - alright. I was just glad there was no imitation crab. Across from Guildford Mall, tucked behind the Tim Hortons you'll find this quaint little sushi bar that's always packed with patrons. I've been here a couple of times now and I've found the service and food to be pretty consistent. The quality of the food is nothing to write home about, but the sizes of both the rolls and sashimi are pretty epic, especially for Surrey. I might have given this place 4 stars if it wasn't for 2 things: 1. If I hadn't received near frozen sashimi during one of my visits here. And, 2. At times the rolls have way more rice than needed. But no hard feelings Guildford Sushi, I forgive you because you always fill me up for about $10 =P I highly recommend the House roll, I think it's their biggest one and it's only $5.50 - what a steal! The moment Nigoya changed their menu, I knew I had to find a good sushi place in Surrey. It took a few months but many misses (aka Sushi Train), but I think I have finally found my go-to sushi place in Surrey. The sashimi (salmon) were fresh and big. The tuna sashimi was frozen the first time I ordered it but was perfect the second time. The house roll is amazing and the price is reasonable (not cheap, reasonable). Unlike Samurai Sushi on Cambie, Guildford's huge rolls don't come with a large amount of rice so I didn't have to throw much out. Love! read more

We have been coming to Guildford sushi for over 2 years now and it is consistently good with big large rolls and sashimi "chunks", good value!! My only negative and hence the 2 star rating is the atmosphere inside the restaurant. The staff spends so much time loudly talking amongst themselves you just want to put in earplugs or get take out only. Well, I'm not sure if this is a one time and experience but I won't return to find out. My girlfriend and I should've left when we opened the door and were met with a bad smell, but I have eaten here before with good results. We ordered 3 types of sashimi and 2 rolls; the yam tempura and house rolls were tasty (and large as this place is know for) but we are more into sashimi. The Toro, Hokki, and Tuna arrived and looked awful. Slimy, frozen, and sloppily cut, it was very unappetizing. We dug in just the same, refusing to make a snap judgement, but we couldn't eat it. He surf clam was tough, dry, and way too chewy. He tuna was frozen almost solid, super slick and had a funky aftertaste. And the tuna belly was just awful...gross. He service was similar to the sashimi; despite only a few customers there was very little effort. We won't eat there again so make your own call but there are really good places nearby. read more

WOW. Stopped in here for a quick early dinner, I was not ready for rolls this big. I ordered a combo and was presented with some pretty generously sized maki rolls - salmon, tuna, and California. The salmon and tuna maki were both great, no overtly fishiness that sometimes accompanied sushi. The California rolls were ENORMOUS. The dynamite rolls I ordered separately were also big, but they showed up a bit later (to the point where I had thought they were forgotten), but were they ever fresh. The prawn tempura was still steaming in the roll, and was crunchy. The staff were courteous, attentive, interactive. The restaurant was clean, the radio playing overhead wasn't a disturbance, all the other patrons were content, and they had a noticeably steady flow of take out being prepared and picked up. I use to like this joint back in the day. Chicken Karaage is still really good, specially with the spicy mayo. But I ordered Nigiri and they gave me some random shit with wasabi in the middle. The don't tell you what pieces your gonna get or that there will be wasabi in there. I threw the yellow sponge thing in my mouth, adamant that I would finish the dish. But about my first bite, the texture and spiciness of the wasabi forced me to spit it out. I never spit food out. Nothing special at this joint but it is still the best in the guildford area, sad. read more

Finally Friday has come... a beautiful day to go out with my coworkers for a late sushi lunch! I have been eyeing Guildford Sushi House for quite some time now, and all it took was one other lady to suggest it and we were there ordering in no time! The sushi: Our food was pretty good! First I should mention that I am not super picky by any means, but I definitely did notice that the rice portions on the rolls are massive! Big rolls are great (especially for the price here!), but when 1/3 of the whole roll is rice, that kind of catches you off guard. As recommended by others here, I tried their maguro-donburi (tuna rice bowl) and found it to be enjoyable. The place: It's a little smaller than I would have thought, so if you were looking to make a larger reservation I would definitely think about calling early or else even looking for another sushi place to go to as it can get a little cramped here. All-in-all, it was good, but for our group size, and for the rolls which we all received, I will be giving Guildford Sushi House 3/5 stars. read more
