So we ordered: -Spicy Sashimi salmon -Krispy crunchy roll -beef teriyaki with rice -unagi roll With 10% off it came to around $40 for two people We came during the Covid-19 pandemic and they were doing 10% off. They advertised on Yelp that if you dine-in, you get 10% off by checking-in. Because we saw the advertisement and check-in offer on Yelp, we thought that dine-in was available. Unfortunately we were misled. We actually took the bus to the restaurant and taking the bus back home wasn't really an option for us at that time. We took our food and ate it at the park. It wasn't the most comfy option but we had no other choice. The order took about 30 mins to make. The food was so so. The spicy salmon sashimi was super drenched in sauce. The flavor was not as great compared to their competitors. The beef teriyaki was quite tasty but again it was drenched in sauce as well. The most upsetting was the krispy crunchy roll. It was really cream cheese, with tamago and smoked salmon on top. There were almost no crunchy to it. The tiny bits of crunchy spreaded on the roll were not even crunchy at all. That roll was super disappointing. The unagi roll was nothing special and it tasted like everywhere else. Overall, it wasn't wow. The portion size was ok and it is all reflected in the price. I read some Yelpers mentioned about the big portion size. Like I said it was just standard portion size for the price you pay. There are parking outside right in front of the restaurant if you are driving. I have had better Japanese food elsewhere. read more

A coworker suggested this restaurant; I wasn't too familiar with the area, so was open to anything. We came at around 530, and the place was pretty busy, but we were still able to get a table right away. Food came out at a good pace, service was efficient. Good portion sizes. They have daily specials. The special that day was the mango roll, which tasted great. The mango was sweet, and not in an artificial way. I had two orders of rolls and left feeling nice and full. My coworker had the spicy tuna sashimi, which actually consisted of a very generous portion of tuna. I didn't try her meal, but she said it's very spicy, so she requests for the sauce on the side. Hands down the best sushi restaurant in the lower mainland (both poco and langley are great). Service is miles above any other sushi restaurant and the quality of the food is insane. We normally get the house green salad with yuzu apple dressing (I can probably just eat this and be happy), spicy tuna roll, cali roll, salmon oshi sushi (BOMB), ika karage, and salmon belly sashimi if we're dining in and it's available. They also have great specials when you're dining in which is a fun option whether it's date night or you're with a large family. Had a sushi craving on a Saturday afternoon so I googled the closest sushi place near my friend's place. I did not expect much but the interior design of Sushi & Roll gives me a good feeling :) We ordered takoyaki and a party tray (A). I have to say: everything's better than expected, even though most are fusion dishes. Takoyaki: excellent ratio of batter, octopus, sauce and bonito flakes. Batter is a bit too runny tho. (It was my friend's first time trying takoyaki and he was mind blown.) Party tray- Salmon roll: classic. Thick and fresh salmon. Seaweed is okay. California roll: A lot of crab meat! Their avocado taste really good too. Very smooth. BC roll: First time trying BC roll ever - may not ever order again because I can make it myself? This place made it okay tho. First of all, I was shocked to be served lukewarm tea. Not hot at all. I had negitoro roll, Smoke salmon/cream cheese roll and ebimayo. Ebimayo means prawn with mayonnaise in Japanese. I found deep fried thin sliced roots vegetable over it. Savory sweet and match with ebimayo. It was interesting combination but surprisingly good. Smoke salmon/cream cheese roll would be just ok. I expected more smoky/salty flavor but salmon tasted very flat. And texture of rice was very hard like grocery store's to go sushi box one. I think price was very affordable. But when I pay the tip by credit card, % selection was 15%, 20% and 25%. Server lady often served tea but what else? This is one of my go to spots for sushi especially when I'm in the Surrey area. I know what to expect and have never been disappointed by the food. It's by no means the best sushi I have ever had but it does the job when I'm looking for a quick fix. I usually go for the spicy salmon roll, deep fried roll, negitoro roll and prawn tempura at this place. Occasionally I'll get the beef teriyaki. If you want some kick of spiciness and a decent sized serving the volcano roll does the trick as well. The place is usually pretty busy but i find the service to be slow. Wow...came expecting good service and witnessed a server trying to physically fight a customer. The server was unhappy that the small child (maybe 2) was finishing a small snack and told the parents if he wouldn't eat sushi they shouldn't be there. The parents stated the child would eat some beef or chicken teriyaki but needed to finish a snack quickly as he was starving and there was a line for tables. The couple left the restaurant with their small child and the male server was throwing fists at the window to them, this poor young family, the child was asking why fighting for sushi. Very spacious restaurant and convenient as it's nearby Surrey Central skytrain station. Also near a Chatime. As it is a pretty big restaurant, there are many seats. There are 3 things about my visit that stood out negatively to me. Firstly, when I'm at a Japanese restaurant, I enjoy eating the pink ginger between dishes. However, they serve pink ginger in a bowl on a per table basis. What I mean is that each table gets a bowl of pink ginger and they refill it every now and then. To me, that is not very hygienic as I don't know how many people have used their chopsticks to picked through it. So that was a bit of a disappointment. Secondly, food was OK, not very impressive. The negitoro that I ordered was basically just rice in one of the pieces (see pic). I understand it might be the end pieces and that the fish may not go completely through, but this was barely any. I think the basics of sushi rolls is to have the same rice and fish ratio throughout. Thirdly, the spicy salmon roll I ordered was also not very impressive as it was simply salmon roll with some kind of 'spicy' sauce squeezed on it like ketchup on a hot dog. I did not enjoy the 'spicy sauce'. (see pic) I would suggest ordering their special rolls which were actually more special - such as burning cheese roll. Perhaps I was just unlucky with my orders this time so I'd still come back to this restaurant and give it another try. read more

Sushi & Roll is my regular sushi place. I ordered sushi from here regularly during the peak of the pandemic and nowadays, dine in here from time to time. A recurring sticking point that I had with this place is their lack of sustainable packaging. They seem really fond of using styrofoam even though Surrey's backward recycling infrastructure prevents it from being recycled unless you take it directly to a recycling depot. They notably also shrinkwrap the top of liquid containers before adding caps. Good attention to detail, but it does make you question whether that is really necessary. I don't intend to centrifuge my soup/Sunomono/ramen, and I certainly hope my delivery driver doesn't either, which begs the question of why any of it is necessary. Food-wise however, Sushi & Roll is solid. My partner really likes their salmon tuna combo for the value, and I really like their specialty rolls. The hot volcano roll provides unparalleled value, as you get some hefty rolls, and a mountain of spicy tuna and cucumber chunks. The Burnt Cheese roll offers a pleasant combination of textures: crispy, creamy, chewy, and it's got a cool conical shape. Maybe they should've called this the unicorn roll (they do have that as a different menu item) I had their tonkotsu ramen once. It was alright, not particularly noteworthy. Their Korean Chirashi don was pretty good value, offering a good combination of sashimi. Sadly, the spinach wasn't fresh enough that day (possibly on the count of that monstrous heat dome/wave that we were in the middle of when I ordered it). Service is also excellent. Very friendly, proactive and responsive. All in all, a solid neighbourhood sushi place, if you're not overly hooked on the food purist trope. read more

It's true they say sushi in BC is way better than Washington state, but this place drops the ball and is overrated. Yeah it's cheap (exchange rate works in my favor too), but there are so many flaws. Reputations seems to be that it's consistently busy. We went in during peak Sunday lunch and the place was packed. There were not enough servers to keep up with clearing the tables and getting people seated. And duhh of course service suffered too. The tempura actually comes with a decent quantity. But the sushi rolls appear so half-assed in quality, like you can see them trying to push out and keep up with the busy demand. This place has potential, but everything falls apart during peak hours. I have been here a couple times, so this is a double review. The sushi is decent. Not something I would go out of my way for, but if I was in the neighbourhood, I might pop by. Pricing is on par with other sushi places. The service though - very frustrating. The first time we came, we ordered food. It was 40 minutes from the time we ordered it to the time that it hit our table. It was absolutely absurd - we were the only people in the restaurant, and they delivered no take-out orders while we were there. What was taking so long?! The second time I came, they had moved to take-out only because of COVID-19. Fair. I tried to place an order over the phone at 11:20. They said, "sorry, we are not open until 11:30. Please wait until 11:30 to call back." I could literally see the restaurant owner/manager sitting at a room, relaxed, ready to go, through the glass window. I insisted, asking if we could place the order, and he could start making it at 11:30. He was firm "no, you must call back in 10 minutes, then I will place your order." It seems so absurd. I understand opening times - but the manager was completely free, with nothing to do. So so frustrating. read more

A friend from work had told me about this spot so, on a recent trip to Surrey, we decided to stop in for lunch. I have to admit, when I noticed they still had their Christmas decorations (including a tree) up I started to have second thoughts. But the place was full (and we were hungry) so we decided to go ahead and get seated - a process which involved our hostess literally pointing to our table, tossing our menus on it, and walking away. Oh well, it wouldn't be the first Vancouver sushi place with perfunctory service - sometimes I've even wondered if it's a requirement! Our waitress arrived soon and poured tea, then took our order: salmon sashimi for my daughter, and a big plate of assorted sashimi and a burning cheese roll for us to share. The miso soup arrived quickly and was just ok - it lacked the richness in the broth of others I've tried. A few minutes later the salmon sashimi arrived. The pieces were huge and the fish tasted very fresh. This was a definite hit with my salmon-loving girl! And then...the wait began. We waited. And we waited some more. Almost twenty long minutes later our other items arrived. By this time my daughter had almost finished her lunch. Our 24 pieces of fresh, beautiful sashimi included toro, salmon, hamachi, snapper, surf clam, sweet shrimp, octopus, and mackerel. There wasn't a bad bite in the bunch, and it was a good deal at $20. The roll was not my favorite - it's always interesting to try a restaurant's "signature" item, but the spicy tuna in this one was borderline fishy and did not pair well with the cream cheese. When we were done another wait began, this time for our bill. Eventually we just walked up to the counter and asked. If this place could get on top of their service issues it would be worth a solid four stars. Oh, and please take down the Christmas decorations! read more

This is cheap but really good sushi. I can't believe we ate so much and still have some leftovers and only paid $47! My favourite is the seared salmon nigiri. Only 50 cents per piece. I also love the Mangodise Roll although it comes with just a mango sauce it is still refreshing to the taste. I also like the chicken karaage. I know it's deep fried and really bad for you but this one is really tasty. I love the hint of ginger in the karaage. I tried the PUCK. I don't know what it stands for but this is spicy tuna and crab meat deep fried with tobiko on top. What can I say?! I love deep fried. This dish reminds me of rellenong bangus (fried stuffed milk fish) that my mom used to make in the Philippines. So good! The place is very clean and the servers are friendly. I saw some reviews harping on the service... but I think I've said before that I don't judge that much on service, as long as you get me my food in a reasonable amount of time and aren't rude about it. And that's what you get here - I didn't think the service was bad at all. I mean, it's like your typical asian place - and that's awesome enough for me. That being said, they have a good variety on the menu. I forgot the name of one of the rolls we got (see pic), but it was REALLY refreshing, with a thin slice of cucumber wrapped around the outside. This is my favourite sushi restaurant! My husband and I go here at least once or twice a week, that's how much we love it! All their food is fresh and well prepared. The staff is very friendly and the prices here are reasonable! Our favourite things here to eat are the Fantastic Roll, Flying Unicorn Roll, Ebi Mayo, Spicy Agedashi Tofu, Chicken teriyaki both entree and rolls, and so much more!
