Staff were friendly and very knowledgeable of the menu. Once I ordered the food was delivered very quickly. There is ample parking in the shopping strip which is nice. The bento box was great! The food was cooked well and was flavored to perfection. I may have been there on an off day, the texture of the shrimp tempura was hard and chewy. I usually love shrimp tempura in sushi rolls but I was not able to finish this roll due to shrimp. The California roll included with the bento box was delicious though! We got the fried calamari for one our appetizers and we weren't too impressed. The pieces were pretty tiny but the sweet and sauce sauce was nice pair. The tempura was good but I don't think the shrimp tempura is made fresh there. The bento box has a lot of food and I love the variety. We got the steak teriyaki and it was cooked perfectly. The sushi was good but had too much sauce all over them. I also didn't like the sauce all over the hand roll because I couldn't pick it up to eat. And it just didn't work with using chopsticks. The takoyaki was not right, the octopus was so hard and barely chewable, the scallion pancake didn't come with any dipping sauce and anyone who knows anything about scallion pancakes would know it comes with a dipping sauce unique to the dish (not plain soy sauce) they claimed they don't serve sauce with it, smh! The ramen was flavorless and my son who loves ramen couldn't stomach it and said he would rather make his own (and he's 10) it was that bad. I've had packaged ramen that was better than that and the meat tasted old ugh!!! Our drinks were also not good. My son had the brown sugar boba and again he loves boba and not only did he not finish it, he didn't even want to take it home. I had the Japanese coffee drink and that also taste peculiar we were just over it. The servers spent more time talking than tending and the guys at the front desk didn't greet or say anything when we left. It's been since August 31st 2021 after Hurricane "Rock Head" Ida hit NOLA and ENTERGY not having power in most areas of the city my little family came to ALABAMA by family. The staff was not as enthusiastic as my waitress Sofia! Sofia was nice and knowledgeable about everything on the menu. We came here on a Sunday evening and were seated immediately when we came in. There was an expansive menu that also included pictures of the rolls--something I love so there was no confusion over what we ordered. I ordered the Tiger's Eye and Texas Roll and my friend ordered the combo fried rice, and two other ones that had lots of crab meat in them (sorry cannot remember the name). Both of our rolls were delicious and packed with flavor. She did say the one she at less of in the picture did not have quite as much flavor as the other but they were both good. The Tiger's Eye was soooooo good! It was also really big and was hard to eat it all in one bite. I didn't even need soy sauce or wasabi for that one. The salmon inside was great too-flaky and fresh. The Texas Roll was still flavorful but the extra bit of soy and wasabi added a little punch. For drinks we had Asahi and it was crisp and smooth. I feel like it was a great choice for the rolls. I came here due to its many good reviews here on yelp, but was very disappointed. It's a typical Americanized sushi bar and Japanese restaurant. Most of the rolls are not authentic to Japanese style sushi but instead what people in the South expect to see which is rolls drowned in thick sauces, not fish which speaks of its own flavor profiles. And that's fine, I get it, you sell what sells. But even then, the rolls I ordered were very lackluster and one, the yellowtail and scallion roll, didn't taste especially fresh, either. To make matters worse, I ordered the pan-fried gyoza, as well. It took forever to come out from the kitchen and was cold when it did. Cold . . . how does that even happen with something pan-fried? Anyways, I had the waitress take it back and have it done over again. I'm not sure if they gave me a new plate of it or just threw the original gyoza in the microwave, but regardless when it returned it was warm but now tough and rubbery. I asked the waitress, "do you make these here in your kitchen or buy them frozen?" She was, at least, honest: they buy frozen ones. No wonder then. Look, I cook Asian food at home, I've even made my own dumplings and if I ran a restaurant sure as heck I'd make my own and not pawn off some store-bought frozen ones as a menu item. The portion was generously, but the taste did not hold up to its standards. The crazy roll sushi, on the other hand, was pretty decent but was nothing to go "crazy" over. The service was a little below average as our server did not attend us as often. After waiting for an hour, I called the restaurant and was informed it was still not ready and would be at least ten more minutes.
