So I was in Montgomery helping my friend move so we took a lunch break. I love Panera Bread but this spot was so beautiful vs the one I usually go to. This spot was well lit, lots of room, and the display of bakery goods just made you want to get one. My friend knows the staff very well so she was greeted and even asked how her move is coming along. We ordered the soup, cheddar broccoli, and it was so delicious. I would have LOVED my Turkey bacon avocado sandwich if there had been avocado on it... not only was there just one tiny slice, it was also not ripe and if you've ever tasted an unripe avocado, it's hard as a rock. (Picture). I've always loved Panera; and when I say "love", I mean everything from the ambiance being cozy coffee shop vibes and the food being so great. This was before the location moved from the location attached to five guys to the new build stand alone location across the street from the old. It quickly went from coffee shop vibes where you can sit for hours studying or just reading, to an open restaurant with no walls where it does feel socially acceptable to sit there for more than the time you're there to eat. Not only that, but seating is so limited that it feels like people are watching you eat so they can take your seat as soon as you get up. The bagels, when I visited lately were non-sliceable (I have never seen, especially from the bagel capital (New York). Not sure what that's about. Do Panera breads usually have a drive thru?! I've never seen one and I think it's for good reason. Waiting 19 min in the drive thru after ordering you food does not seem to be a good business idea. Cars were lined up behind me, all of us looking hungry and frustrated. I don't know how the pick up line was any different than the drive thru, so even if you ordered ahead, you would have had to wait. The employee taking my order and money at the window was polite and professional, so I gave them credit for that. Also, I got the broccoli cheddar soup and Mediterranean veggie sandwich and thoroughly enjoyed it both, so they get credit for that as well. Would I go back? Panera has gone very quickly from a consistent decent spot to a cross your fingers and hope sort of place. But little by little they have changed most of their items to crap. I need to hurry up and go use my birthday points! Anyway, there is never a dull moment at this Panera, especially during lunch time it's packed and the line can get pretty long. It can also be difficult to find good parking during the lunch rush, so come early or late. The service is pretty standard, some of the staff are great and others are just so/so. Depending on which type of server you get, your order can be perfect or messed up. It's a coin toss really, but if I see one my favorite workers in, I'll usually get in their line or let the person behind me go first until they're free. My favorite thing to get for breakfast is a chai tea latte with caramel and a cheese danish. It's hard for the so/so servers to mess that up (unfortunately sometimes it happens). When it's done correctly, it's my favorite drink, even better than Starbucks and more affordable. They have a nice selection of juices and teas on tap along with the normal fountain drinks (Pepsi products). The iced green tea is good, especially on a hot day. Lunch, I like the Fuji Apple Chicken Salad or the beef and white cheddar panini. They usually have a few seasonal dishes. And during the winter the quinoa bowl really hits the spot read more

This is my first time at this location. I ordered turkey chili, a drink, and a cherry pastry using the "Rapid Pick Up" option on the app. The App is really well-made by the way and I've never had any issues with it. Anyways, they got my order out promptly without incident. I get the turkey chili almost every single time I come here (at least when they are offering it). Today the turkey chili was really watery and didn't have much flavor at all. I don't know what happened to it today but it was really not great. I just happened to be REALLY hungry so I did eat it all. I just wished it was thicker like it normally is. Also, it wasn't very hot. Kind of defeats the purpose of ordering chili in my opinion. In many ways, this is a standard Panera. But there is one thing that sets this one apart: These guys really, really take care of their customers. I've never seen that at any other Panera, where interaction with staff tends to end once you've gotten your meal. This Panera was bustling with activity. Lots of customer traffic. And lots of staff to deal with those customers (which they did with alacrity). There was at least one person on the floor whose primary job was to maintain the drinks area (even the soda fountain). That's all that person did. And still others to check up on customers as if it's a full-service restaurant--not to mention plenty of help clearing tables and making sure customers were happy. This location is actually farther than the other Panera Bread ( which is closer to my place) but I would rather drive here because they have better service and I can see that the managers care. On Sunday mornings for example, the souffles are out and ready and they get a new batch ready before the souffles run low. I'm a big Panera fan and regularly go there. This one, however, lacks good customer service. I have yet to meet a friendly cashier there. But hey, if not even the manager is nice, why would they be? I see where they get their attitude from. It seems like they are annoyed by my business. They have never asked me if I wanted bread, apple, or chips as my side. They rarely point out that I have a reward on my card. Instead of keeping eye contact, they stare into oblivion daydreaming of a better workplace, I guess?? They hand me my receipt without a thank you or have a nice day and just seem glad to have passed another minute on their shift. The guys in the kitchen are a different story.
