This is centrally located in North Burnaby which was very easy to find. I decided to drop by for lunch and was thinking about a bento box. Since I drove by this tiny Japanese restaurant many times - I decided to give it a try. Street parking is easy to find but they do not have their own parking lot. The decor of the restaurant looked quite clean and very typical of a Japanese restaurant. From the sushi bar to the seating. It looked like it could fit about 40 people in the restaurant. When I sat down, the waitress automatically came over and provided me tea, water and took my order. Which was quite fast and efficient. I ordered the chicken teriyaki bento box and a dynamite roll. When I got my order, the food look ok, the Chicken Teriyaki and the tempura is hot and crispy, however I would suggest to cut down less on the rice, which I left more than half in the box. I also thought the Dynamite could do better, it was very dry, without any flavour. Something I would stay away from. Perhaps the chef forgot to put the Japanese mayonnaise to give it better flavour. Overall the service is great, servers ensured I had enough tea, water and napkins and would check up on me often. I would suggest the chef to improve the food and the customer will come. read more

Came here to try their lunch special. Parking is available out front along Hastings. The inside is quite clean and somewhat modern. There are booths along both sides, as well as a row of tables in the middle. This is where you'll probably end up if you're in a large group. The lunch special itself is $9 for 3 items with a free miso soup thrown in. 1 item can be an appetizer such as beef udon, 3 pieces of nigiri sushi, or 5-6 pieces of a sushi roll. I was honestly expecting the rolls to be quarter-sized, but they were slightly larger than toonies. Finally, a place that doesn't leave you hungry. Chicknen udon - nice tender piece of chicken, without too much fat. Firm noodles. Sashimi - nice thick pices. They are of the farmed variety (salmon pieces have large white ridges), but I didn't mind at all. Served with cucumber. Tuna was pinkish white. BC roll - actually some grilled salmon in there instead of just the skins like other places. Decent-sized rolls. Spicy tuna roll - nice and minced up. One of the better ones I've had around town. Chopped scallop sushi - a bit too minced for my liking (I like the pieces solid), but no fish taste. Ebi sushi - a bit *too* perfectly uniform? They looked like clones of each other. But this can't be a bad thing either. Tobiko sushi - tiny tiny eggs. I'm not sure how they were able to form these perfectly molded pieces. No other place I've ever been to does this. Wasn't a huge fan. I found most of everything I got flavorless, and I wasn't a fan of the rice. I found it hard and bland. Only plus was the prices and portions were reasonable. But like how can a salmon and tuna maki be bland? Well it was. The agedashi tofu was pretty crispy but again bland. They literally gave one flake of bonito and not a lot of tempura dipping sauce. The only thing that was actually good was the double dynamite dragon roll. It was big and smothered in unagi sauce. The sauce and ebi tempura was the highlight. We came here for an early dinner, the service was good the sushi was fresh and delicious. I had the mango roll, and gyozas my friends had a lunch box and 3 different rolls. The speed that's the orders took to arrive at our table was quite quick. The quality was high. Grand opening today Tuesday Oct 25/11 this modern and snazzy 'chain' sushi bar replaces "yummy yummy sushi". Offering nominal fee brown rice upgrades and 10% off your order if you order a day before. I tried the spinach gomae (fabulous), chicken teriyaki (a little dry), spicy salmon sashimi (sauce poured over instead of enrobed?), regular salmon sashimi (big pieces!) and spicy Agedashi (slightly larger pieces used but still tasty!) The decor is pretty and very comfortable in dark wood. The takeout menu rocks the house and the regular menu is the perfect picture stuffed intro that every restaurant should display. I am very GLAD a sushi place of quality is once again nearby with the last one having burnt down Nov 2010 across the street and down a little. read more

We stopped by here to try some more sushi restaurants in the area. We were seated right away. Tea arrived shortly afterwards. We placed our order and received our food promptly. The food tasted average. The tempura looked a little on the darker side. I am not sure if they were using old oil to fry the tempura to be that colour. The tempura was crispy but a bit on the bland side. Service was alright. Server refilled our tea once during our meal. Overall, it was an okay food experience. read more

Came during the afternoon with a friend for some sushi. The food here is passable but I am really disappointed with the service. When we entered no one greeted us so we just sat down at a table. One of the waitresses then told us that we needed to move because they did not clean the table. We then ordered,ate and paid for our food. I then asked for a takeout box so I can pack our leftovers. She went into the kitchen where I heard her speaking in Cantonese with someone else "such a waste of our takeout containers" and "he's so young and he's using LV ah" Why does the brands I use concern you? One of my favourite sushi places. This restaurant is a bit of a hidden gem as it is smaller than other restaurants on the same street, but that's why it stands out. It is a smaller restaurant that isn't usually full and the service is very fast. They have a very diverse menu and have amazing lunch specials. I strongly recommend their bento boxes during lunch as they are 12 dollars and under and are very filling that usually I end up taking some of it home. They're big on delivery as well. Personally, have not tried ordering from them via skip the dishes but the quality of food won't dissapoint. read more

I eat a decent amount of sushi. This review is food only. Just-Eat delivery. Was very fast! Surprisingly speedy. But when I got the food I think I could tell some of the reason why. Deep fried dumpings? The most mediocre I've had in some time. Not crisp. Sushi, a bit warm. Seems like they had things pre-made, waiting. I mean, it's competent, I guess. The crab miso was okay, but it's hard to mess up miso soup (and I have had better). This is just one man's experience one time. Other people seem to like it. I would give it a second chance. Ordered from here late night because it was one of the only ones open. The fish tasted pre-frozen/not fresh/dry. About 30% of the sushi fell apart, and the rice wasn't plump or seasoned properly. We didn't get sick but I would order from here again. I think it's comparable to low end grocery store sushi. read more

No complaints. Had a beef terryaki box as well as a rainbow roll. My friend had a ramen soup as well as a spicy dynamite roll. It was all pretty damn good. Why don't I give it a 5? Small things: there was a spring roll along with the tempura in my bento box, which was a bit of a surprise to say the least. Would have preferred the usual bento box salad, instead it came with a seaweed salad. And the beef terryaki was a bit too minced/chopped up. I prefer large chunks of meat than that. read more

Ordered this on Just eat. what i got was a mess you wouldn't give to a dog. Packed in a plastic bag with a can of coke. So the mix of hot and cold creates a mess of water all over the food and the packaging. The sushi came cut at the weirdest angle that meant every time u picked it up everything fell out. It was already a mess n the box anyway. The appetizer yam and prawn was under cooked and inedible and the spring roles were ok but again not worth half the price they charge for two tiny roles. FYI, they have this promo rite now that the tiger prawn tempura $4.95, wild salmon sashimi $8.95... It's on the newspaper too... Lol They were kind of busy tonite. 4 ppl were already waiting ahead of us. Luckily, we got a big booths-window-seat not for long. We ordered their pepper tuna tataki which is on special now. It was really refreshing as an appetizer. (Honestly, I tried many sushi places' tuna tataki- I just love this dish) This is one of my fav one too. My parents ordered bento boxes with brown rice. ( Yeh~~~ they serve brown rice here!!! Awesome~~~ ) Thoz Bentos were really tasty. My mom loves that there's a pic of spring roll from the tempura part in the box. Me n my sister tried their special rolls. There was a decent portion of fish in the roll. U can just taste the very fresh ingredients in the rolls. We also tried their Aburi sushi. The aburi was really good, to the point we were pleasantly surprised at how well all the flavors melted together. The service was certainly nice enough to warrant a second visit - the chef seemed extremely happy with his job, chatting with customers at the bar, and the staff were always friendly and checked on us often. Overall, I really enjoyed my experience and would definitely go back. This is definitely one of those "I'm craving good quality sushi without paying crazy prices" type of places. read more

Their new vegetarian special roll is out of this world and their avocado is always perfectly ripe. Though I always order vegetarian sushi, I have brought many non-vegs who rave about the quality of fish. Another lovely perk is you can get your sushi made with brown rice for a small extra fee. Review Type: Lunch I've never really been to such a hit or miss sushi restaurant and it is really hard to give a final verdict to how I want to describe this place. I arrived here for lunch with my sister at around 2. The restaurant was still fairly packed, so that usually is a good sign that the fish here wouldn't be too bad. Upon stepping inside we noticed that Osaka is operated by a pure Cantonese staff. Now to be bluntly honest, the nationality of the staff really should not make any difference in regards to the service or quality of the food, but as a Vancouverite that eats a lot of sushi, this is an interesting thing to note. It's sterotyping a little bit, but for those that eat sushi as much as we do, you'll be sure to understand. The food was the most interesting part of this entire adventure. I ordered a lunch box, a crab meat salad, and my sister ordered a tuna and salmon combo. To crab meat salad was the first to arrive on the table and this dish was a complete shocker. It quite literally was just a slab of fake crab meat over diced cucumbers, nothing more. I have no idea what to even say about a $5 dish like that.. My lunch box was weird now that I think back on it. The beef terriyaki over rice was perfectly made; it wasn't overly oily or salty as other places I've been to; however the prawn and yam tempura was deep fried for too long, leaving every bite squirting with oil; but on that note, the dynamite roll was decent, meaning the fried prawn in that roll was well done. The tuna and salmon nigiri that came with the combo was decent. The tuna did not seem like it was cute the right way, leaving it chewy and hard to bite into but the salmon was made properly, but the funny thing was that my sisters salmon nigiri with her combo was chewy and hard to swallow. The combo also came with seaweed salad and a spring roll. The seaweed salad was a little warmer than expected but the springroll was pretty good. As I said, this is the most inconsistent meal I've ever had.. All in all, the price at Osaka is decent. It isn't a rip off or anything near that, but the food quality is all over the place. I wouldn't recommend this as a place to try, but then again it isn't worth banning either. If you live in the neighborhood and don't want to drive farther, then give Osaka Sushi a shot. read more

Everything about this place looked great! We were greeted promptly and friendly and served green tea as soon as we were seated. Even the prices looked pretty good. We didn't stay long though as while scanning the menu I noticed one of the ingredients in a couple of the rolls was shark fin. We walked out. I'm sure you would enjoy this place if you have no moral problem with the practice of shark finning but the truth is there are several sushi places on the same block that are on par if not better than Osaka and don't use this ingredient. Was coming here as my main sushi place for months until one day my sushi was INFESTED with black hair. Not one random hair, there was 5 or 6 mixed into the rolls. Turns out the whole bowl of sushi rice they made had hair in it. The worst part is that the time I came before this happened I had a hair in my sushi as well and i just returned it and got a new one. They took over the location of Yummy Yummy Sushi, and while I was initially disappointed because I really liked Yummy, Yummy, I've since been to Osaka 3-4 times and I haven't been disappointed. Service is fast and friendly and everything tastes fresh, from the sashimi to the rolls. It's hard to find good sushi in north Burnaby, but Osaka is making a good case for itself to prove otherwise. They have a lot of items on the menu that should appeal to all palates, from sashimi so raw you'd swear the tuna fish was still moving to fully cooked items like teriyaki beef. You also have the option of choosing brown rice for your rolls, which I know is important to a lot of people, as well as wild salmon versus farmed salmon. read more

Dropped by on a whim to fulfill a sushi craving. Ordered the Chirashi don and was surprised at how fresh the sashimi was!! The tuna was buttery, masago tasty, and the octopus has a really nice texture to it. I even enjoyed parts of the don that I normally don't like at other places but were exceptionally good here (such as the egg and white fish slices). The pieces of sashimi were very thick as well. I was pretty happy that this place was open on Jan 1! The prices are pretty reasonable and the sashimi was pretty fresh. I had the toro and the wild sockeye salmon. The spider roll was good, and the tempura was good as well. We also ordered the beef sashimi, which was okay. Not the best I've ever had but not bad. We tried the house roll as well, which was alright, tasty but nothing crazy special. Tried the ribs....good flavor but didn't taste super fresh. Customer service was okay. Food came out extremely quick - there were probably 4 or 5 other tables at the same time. Overall, this is a good quick place to eat, reasonable. Just don't expect amazing presentations. read more
