Chicken Teriyaki Bento Box and Dynamite Role
Henry C.

This is centrally located in North Burnaby which was very easy to find. I decided to drop by for lunch and was thinking about a bento box. Since I drove by this tiny Japanese restaurant many times - I decided to give it a try. Street parking is easy to find but they do not have their own parking lot. The decor of the restaurant looked quite clean and very typical of a Japanese restaurant. From the sushi bar to the seating. It looked like it could fit about 40 people in the restaurant. When I sat down, the waitress automatically came over and provided me tea, water and took my order. Which was quite fast and efficient. I ordered the chicken teriyaki bento box and a dynamite roll. When I got my order, the food look ok, the Chicken Teriyaki and the tempura is hot and crispy, however I would suggest to cut down less on the rice, which I left more than half in the box. I also thought the Dynamite could do better, it was very dry, without any flavour. Something I would stay away from. Perhaps the chef forgot to put the Japanese mayonnaise to give it better flavour. Overall the service is great, servers ensured I had enough tea, water and napkins and would check up on me often. I would suggest the chef to improve the food and the customer will come.

Osaka Sushi located in a Deep Cove of North Vancouver. Just a short distance walk to the deep tranquil water of Burrard Inlet. The restaurant has a sparkling wholesome setting and charming decoration. The service was prompting cordial and professional. The servers were warm, friendly and responsive. We, a group of friends/alumni, visited it when we were touring North Vancouver. We enjoyed very much the lunch boxes we ordered!

Salmon Teriyaki Bento Box

DELIVERY : a large menu with a wide variety of items from sushi to entrees to noodles and appetizers. Meal arrived on-time and included all I ordered. I had the Salmon Teriyaki Bento Box. A couple nice pieces of salmon on rice that were quite tasty. The bento box also included a shrimp and yam tempura, spring roll, tuna roll, salad and some wasabi/pickled ginger. They also sent a side of tasty miso soup. Definitely a full meal and quite nice for delivery. $$

Grand opening today Tuesday Oct 25/11 this modern and snazzy 'chain' sushi bar replaces "yummy yummy sushi". Offering nominal fee brown rice upgrades and 10% off your order if you order a day before. I tried the spinach gomae (fabulous), chicken teriyaki (a little dry), spicy salmon sashimi (sauce poured over instead of enrobed?), regular salmon sashimi (big pieces!) and spicy Agedashi (slightly larger pieces used but still tasty!) The decor is pretty and very comfortable in dark wood. The takeout menu rocks the house and the regular menu is the perfect picture stuffed intro that every restaurant should display. I am very GLAD a sushi place of quality is once again nearby with the last one having burnt down Nov 2010 across the street and down a little.

Pretty good sushi for a decent price. It's a nice hole in the wall and I was impressed with the freshness.

Food poisoning and bad quality. Not worth the price whatsoever. They have a wide menu but it doesn't make up for the poor quality.

She then left to let us peruse the menu. We took awhile to look so we were asked at once point if we were ready and we sis we needed a bit more time so the server was delightfully accommodating and said whenever we were ready to give a server a call. Later on when we were ready our order was taken by a male staff member. We ordered a decent amount. Miso cheese eggplant, chawan-mushi, fried fish collar served in some kind of broth, 8pc nigiri omakase, blue fin tuna&uni hand cone, another hand cone but I can't remember what was in it..wifey ordered it, vegetable tempura and a black truffle dynamite roll. The highlight for me was the black truffle dynamite roll, it's taste was perfect. The right amount of truffle used and not over powering like I've had at so many other venues. I was pleasantly surprised and delighted. It was smokey, earthy and tasted wonderful. The miso cheese eggplant was delicious, slightly salty from the miso and wonderfully roasted soft eggplant. The fish colar in broth was light and delicate, beautiful flavor and texture. Chawanmushi was soft and delicate, excellently flavored. The omakase which had fish from Japan was delicious, super fresh and masterfully prepared! The tempura came with a green tea seasalt which was different but very nice. For dessert we had the green tea tiramisu which was very tasty. The restaurant itself is small but cozy and wonderfully decorated. My wife and I had a wonderful meal and I would go back for special occasions.

The staffs/owner were very friendly and made great recommendations. Had the hamachi carpaccio, so refreshing and appetizing. The homemade ponzu (lemony) sauce has a nice finish with thin sliced onions and veggies. The Engawa Arburi nigiri was recommended, and it was phenomenal. It is the 'fin edge' of flounder. Super delicate, with seared (arburi) flavor and melts in your mouth. Yum! The other highlight was the Wagyu beef cubes severed on stick. Two skewers 4 cubes each. The Wagyu was perfectly cooked. It melts in your mouth with every bite. We also enjoyed the 7 piece Omakase sushi set. The fish was very fresh and satiating. Love the lotus root chips garnishing. We loved everything we had but would likely skip the Omakase appetizer Platter. Perhaps we were spoiled by the hamachi carpaccio appetizer. We still enjoyed it but For the same price, we would prefer the sushi set. It had 9 small plates in a beautiful serving box including- tiny sashimi cube of salmon, tuna, tamago, and my fav is the komochi nishin (herring fillets ("Nishin") layered over a base of crunchy capelin roe), also included in the tiny plates of apps were, chicken karaage, baby taco, sliced taco, taco in red sauce, and seaweed salad. We look forward to be back!!!!!

We sat in a separate section of the restaurant with 3 tables at the front. We ordered chicken wings, assorted tempura, miso black cod and an order of beef teriyaki that was not on the menu. The servings are very small for the prices charged. We found that the chicken wings (only 4 small wings) $9.50 were a bit dry. The tempura batter was not as crisp or crunchy as we've had. The miso black cod was a very small portion - maybe 4 oz. for $18.00. We did not feel that there was value for the money. The food was average and the prices were too high for the quality and amount of food received. We did not enjoy the anime that was playing and we were glad that we were not sitting in the main dining room. Overall, we feel that there are better options for a Japanese meal.

Okeya Kyujiro is a Michelin one-star theatrical omakase restaurant, and when they say theatrical, they mean it! From the moment you're welcomed by smiling ushers in kimono to the closing tea ceremony, every movement feels intentional, precise, and elevated. The ambiance is serene and anticipatory. At the start, guests sit in silence as a black screen conceals the chefs. You see their shadows moving behind it. A bell rings, the screen lifts, and the performance begins. Dinner is a 25+ course experience priced at $325 per person. It's undeniably a splurge, but for a milestone celebration, it feels justified. The menu is seafood-forward, with many ingredients flown in from Japan. Each ingredient is presented before preparation, then carefully assembled and served directly from chef to guest. Courses arrive one by one, never rushed. The service team moves seamlessly in the background, refilling water and attending to drinks (available as an add-on) without disrupting the flow. The finale is a matcha ceremony, whisked in front of you with the same quiet precision that defines the evening. When the final sip is taken, the bell chimes once more, the chefs and staff bow, and the screens close. It was a beautifully choreographed dining experience, perfect for marking a special moment, and one I'd gladly return to for the next celebration.

Service was really amazing with servers explaining each dish and drinks were always topped off…read more Food was good, but maybe this isn't quite my style of omakase compared to the other ones I've tried. This is a more theatrical style so expect louder music and a more theatrical experience (eg one of the servers played the flute for the guests celebrating birthdays). I prefer a more intimidate and interactive style of omakase where you can talk with the chefs. This lunch also felt a little fast in terms of progression of the meal. Some of the dishes were very tasty while others didn't wow us. With drinks, we were quite full despite some reviews saying portion is on the smaller size. Our total was around $500 with drinks for 2 people. A really good experience for omakase, especially if you are looking for a unique experience though not my favourite one I've tried.
