Our group of 8 riders descended on Limon in the 90+ degree heat and fire generated smoky sky and decided on Oscar's for lunch. When we arrived we noticed they didn't open for at least another half hour. We were there only minutes and a person came out from Oscars and said we could come in and get drinks until they got things up and running. Very nice of them! I had been here before and it was all good that time as well so that's what I figured would be the outcome this time as well. It was. I had a Reuben like sandwich and other meals I saw ordered was liver and onions (I almost got that one) and a french dip type sandwich and a taco salad and fish and chips (I almost got this one too) and popcorn shimp and a mushroom burger. We were traveling by and staying in at the hotel across the street. Tired and exhausted of a road trip from California to St Louis. Sick and tired of fast food and weird ppl. For lunch, on our way in to Colorado Springs, we stopped at Limon. We had eaten at Jenny's Mexican before and wanted to stop again, but we were a little too early. We ended up eating close by at Oscar's. This is one of those places where you should probably order the specials or a burger. I ordered meatloaf which was fine with some onion and covered with brown gravy. It was accompanied by Home Mashed potatoes, which were good, certainly not instants and undoubtable made on site. I like slaw with mashed potatoes and gravy so asked for it in lieu of the mixed vegetables. The slaw had some sour cream in the dressing, which I do not prefer, but it was not overdone. It needed a splash of vinegar. Ms T ordered Fish and chips. These were disappointing, pre-breaded and commercial. The breading was like bread crumbs instead of a batter and they were over-browned. She would not order again. If you prefer to patronize the locals, as we do, versus the other offerings that were also there at Limon; IHOP, McD's, etc, this is an OK place. I would choose Jenny's first, though. At Oscar's you are getting kind of main street cafe food. It is OK, you just have to find what they do homemade. It just makes the cut into three stars, based on one visit. We went in for a birthday dinner today and it was amazing. We had a mix up with food but our waitress Sherri/Sherry(forgot to ask spelling) was quick to fix the situation. She was on her feet the whole time. She was on top of our drink refills and made sure to check in periodically. She was friendly and had great customer service skills. Her performance alone as a waitress will make me quick to return for another great night with friends and family! So a big thank you to her! Limon, Colorado, home of the Colorado Dept of Corrections high security prison, is not what you'd think of as a culinary find. But if you have managed to get yourself out on the Eastern Plains--like you're on your way to Kansas--hungry and not wanting to stop for Mickey D's finest, then Oscar's might just be for you. A legitimate 3 star road restaurant that sports a liquor/wine license, I'd stay away from the sandwiches and try out one of their pastas. The theme is Hollywood Movie Names (thus "Oscar's"), but forget the hokey food titles and give it a try. No awards, but decent eats. read more

The choice was chicken or beef, but for some reason, you had to get all three the same kind. Whatever--hubby got beef and I got chicken, and we just swapped one each. Giving them 1 star only because the staff was nice but as far as the food goes if you're looking for a Walmart precooked chicken fried steak meal that's over priced this is the place to go. You have to go to this small town pub for its happy hour. I think happy hour is between 4-6pm. Burgers are only $5 and beers at buy one, get one free. First, let me preface that I didn't dine in, but rather decided for take out. This was our final night of our Great Northern Idaho Road Trip and Family Bonding Experience, and we were beat. We were going to opt for some Chinese takeout, but the only place in town appeared to be closed. Since Oscar's was adjacent to our hotel (that's another story entirely) I decided to get a couple of steaks and make it an early night. The wife was taking The Kid for a swim while I got the grub. First, the place is a movie mecca. Lots of references to the movies, and apparently that carried on to the menu. I guess it's consistent, but I honestly just prefer that my food be called what it is. So, on to the experience, albeit from a take out perspective. The place is noisy. Even just waiting around for your order. Had we actually dined in, I probably would not have enjoyed the meal because of the extraordinarily loud volume coming from the bar section. That's not a criticism, just a preference of mine. I like to enjoy dinner and conversation, not listen to a bunch of drunk knotheads scream at each other in the bar. When I placed my order I was advised there would be a 15 minute wait on the steaks, due to the number of people dining in, and I said 15 minutes was more than fine. So, cut to 25 minutes later, and I'm almost ready to walk out. I think the hostess sensed my growing frustration (probably because I was checking my watch about every minute), and set about trying to get my order wrapped up. Cut to the chase, which was the meal. Probably one of the best steaks I've eaten in a long time, certainly one of the best meals I had on the Great Northern Idaho Road Trip and Family Bonding Experience. Cooked perfectly, tender and with a very well done char on the outside. The spuds were well done and decent sized. There were a few small issues attendant with a take out order, but that's not any negative against the restaurant. Overall, if I ever find myself in Limon, Colorado again around dinner time, I wouldn't hesitate to eat at Oscar's again. But I might bring some earplugs. read more
