One of PV well know spot. Along the river and just off the Malecon walkway. Oscars, a big open air restaurant with amazing views of the river and out to the beach. We stopped in for a drink to cool off and enjoy the view. It was still early so the restaurant was pretty empty. Staff working was all wonderful. We sat along the waterfront overlooking the river. Cocktails menu did offer a lot of nice creations. It's a full bar so whatever you prefer it could be made. Killing some time with the cocktails, we went for some snacks to share. The ceviche which was well presented and served with chips and extra salsa. The fish was fresh and marinated well with the lime juice. Also loads of avocado on top and fried calamari. And the nachos with rib eye. They didn't asked how we wanted the steak cooked which it came out well done. That was accompanied by beans and cheese. Good thing salsa and pico de gallo was also brought out. Even though meat was well done, it was still quite tasty. The restaurant itself was quite beautiful in the main floor which leads out to the grassy area. Beautiful spot for a party or wedding. There's also an upstairs level that is open air as well. Across from the restaurant, they have the brewery which we didn't try out. That as well is along the river on the opposite side. It's a beautiful restaurant and a nice try if you're walking along the riverfront island. read more

Wonderful environment with excellent food, and the service was fantastic. We went on Saturday afternoon, around 2pm, and there were only a couple other tables, probably after the lunch rush. Prices were as expected for higher end dining in a popular tourist area, but comparable to what we pay in Albuquerque at a popular gastropub. Fish tacos, ceviche, a cocktail, and a bottle of artesian water set us back about $50. The menu was filled with delicious sounding options, and the flavors were fresh and refined. So this is not a review of the restaurant, it is entirely a review of their tequila tasting, which, yes, is indeed still around as of when I was there a couple months ago, and yes, it is completely free. which still felt a bit odd coming from the US, where *everything* is always monetized, even after this being the last stop on our cruise, so we'd had similar experiences elsewhere in Mexico. Smart of them for sure, since after trying a whole bunch of agave spirits both here and elsewhere, I ended up returning to the US with a whole suitcase of them. (Unfortunately, while the bottle I bought here was wrapped up super well, and made it all the way home without issue, I dropped something on it and it shattered *after* I got it home and onto my bar, but that's not their fault.) Anyway - the tasting is outside on their patio, a nicely relaxing spot to taste tequila compared to a bustling tasting room. I gathered the person running the tasting when I was there was one of the distillers, which was also cool. We got to try a whole range of tequilas, mezcals, even a sotol (it was the sotol I bought and then unfortunately lost the following week.) A few liqueurs, too - all of them quite good. Definitely stop by here if you have the time, if you have any interest in spirits. (Again, I can't speak to the restaurant side of things, which looks to be operated pretty independently.) read more

We had the best experience during our first tequila tasting at Oscar's in PV, with Saùl as our guide. He was funny, knowledgeable, and not pushy. Though it was a free tasting, we still bought two bottles and left a tip because of how generous and personable he was. The tequila itself was incredible, from their extra añejo to the fruity cocktails. Also, it was hot and humid outside, but the restaurant is seated right on the water, leaving a cool breeze from the ocean, making it very relaxing and enjoyable. There weren't many people there at the time, so we were seated immediately upon arrival. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a great tequila tasting experience. read more

The chips were crispy and delicious to accompany the creamy texture of the guacamole get it you won't be disappointed you have to get the whole red snapper it's the signature dish of the city. Our was perfectly crisp to go with the bright pico de gallo and cubes or avocados. Tortillas on the side fresh so can make your own fish tacos We only ordered water and ice as it was too early for us to drink. The tea was fresh brewed and excellent. We stopped in for the Tequila tasting, which I highly recommend. It's free, though you're expected to buy a bottle. The bartender taught us a lot about tequila, like how to drink it properly, the characteristics of Mexican tequila vs US tequila, and the different types of tequila. Overall, we had about 8 samples-worth of tequila that had us feeling great. Four were pure tequilas, while the other 4 were flavored (like coffee). They were all incredible and so much better than US tequila. Definitely worth trying out. It's on the little island so you have beautiful views of the canal and the ocean. We did choose to buy a bottle. By some freak accident, our bottle completely shattered within all the wrapping. The cork and bottle neck were fine, but everything else was shards. We can't think of what the heck could have happened - it was wrapped and we were gentle, so again, freak accident. We didn't think they'd do anything about it, but we passed the following day asking if it was common. They said no, but offered us a sample as condolences and we went to move on. As we were leaving, a bartender chased us and said that after talking to his manager, if we bring in the broken bottle they will replace it. So the next day, we stopped in with our broken bottle and they replaced it - which was so generous and unexpected. The bottle was double wrapped and made it home safely. They truly care about customer service here. Great service and great tequila. read more

Walking along the Malecon we stopped in at this place. I was a little skeptical about the food there because there were only about 5 people there. Amazing place. My friend had a birthday here and everything from the walk to the venue was perfect. It's right by the bridge and river, really transporting you to a different environment. All the employees were friendly and accommodating. The food was delicious. I had a shrimp plate. We danced the night away on their dance floor and they projected music videos. Oscars has a beautiful location, right on the ocean. It is a little bit tricky to get there as there is no parking next to the restaurant. We were promptly greeted by restaurant staff and they were attentive throughout the dinner. We both ordered wine and they brought my husband's Cabernet ice cold, just like the Chardonnay, rather than at slightly below room temperature, as it should be served. I did hear a man at another table complain about this as well. I am vegan and appreciate the fact that they have several vegan and vegetarian options on the menu. I opted instead to have mashed potatoes and vegetables and a lovely citrus salad. I appreciated the beautiful presentation, even though I was only ordering sides. My husband was less impressed with his seafood enchiladas. He said that they did not have much flavor to them. I think this is a restaurant that has tremendous potential and I'm looking forward to seeing them continue to grow and improve. read more

I saw Oscar's on a You Tube Blogger's site and decided to give it a try. When I arrived the restaurant was totally empty. The host explained that the hours had changed the day before and no one knew, I guess. I had the whole restaurant to myself!!!!! The food was excellent and so was the service. 12 days into our 14 day visit, this is vying for one of the best meals we have had this trip. We really love the location - being right on the river with a cool breeze in an open air place is an incredible experience. They had live piano this evening, a cool jazz. The server (Ricardo) was able to match my wife's playful mood, and that only added to what was a very memorable evening. I went for the catch of the day - perhaps not my favorite of their dishes - that night it was dolphin fish. While it was very tasty and the sides were cooked to perfection, it was a little tougher and drier than I would have liked. The wife went for the chicken breast in mole Xiqueno, a Oaxacan-style mole that has a terrific flavor. The chicken was tender and the plantains were a terrific match. One of our friends had the giant shrimp entree. She is still talking about how perfect her meal was. While Oscar's does a great job with presentation on all of their meals, this one stood out above the rest. The combination of flavors and cooked to perfection shrimp with garlic and Tequila came off truly memorably. Our last friend went for the Angus Ribeye. My picture doesn't do the presentation justice, the sides were really nicely done, the steak cooked to a perfect medium as requested. We really enjoy this place and will continue to make sure we visit it when we are in town. read more

This place is spectacular, inside and outside. The staff is incredibly accommodating. We walked up on Monday morning at 10 am, the gentleman said they don't open until noon. He then said hold on and asked the kitchen if it would be okay, the kitchen said they were ready! We started with ceviche, then Mahi Mahi tacos and Al Pastor tacos, all were delicious! How can anyone come to this part of Mexico to skip such a great restaurant dining place? Tequila bar, piano on the floor, tiki style views, river views, nearby markets, and more. Tip those guys who work the tables to sing & entertain for you! $5-$10 USD not too bad. Yes, they do accept American dollars or just swipe your credit card. The staff was all very friendly, professional, and happy people. Fresh air. Music keeps the excitement alive here. People celebrate when visiting. Food pricing was a bit on the higher end (similar to Santa Clara County-California prices), but the experience was worth it. You get what you pay for. I actually did enjoy the nachos with everything and Mexican tortilla soup, because it's not as spicy or salty, compared to Mexican foods in the states. Light and natural. Must love. Authentic Mexican foods: tacos, quesadillas, Mexican tortilla soup, nachos, etc. Add the delicious rancheros sauce or other sauces if you like. Very clean and spacious interior. Grab a cute cocktail drink! Plenty of beautiful views for photos outside too. Give your family & friends those moments to cheerish! Cute place for sure with absolutely great service. We are on a Mexican Riviera Cruise with our logical family. Although my husband & I are here for the ship, not the ports, we wanted to show Puerto Vallarta to them because we love it so much, having spent many week-long vacations here in out timeshare. We had the taxi drop us off at the beginning of the malecón, and we walked toward old town/zona romantica. I suddenly remembered a restaurant by the river that Jack & I had eaten at. I remembered it for the location and ambiance. So we went there for lunch. OMG! The service, drinks, ambiance, view, and most of the food items were the best I've had in PV over the years. The service by the team of Jaqson & Alfredo was outstanding. The highlight was the preparation of a salsa picosa that I ordered. They prepared it tableside starting with flaming a habanero pepper. Then with mortar and pestle they muddled and ground. The result was the most beautiful fresh habanero salsa I've ever had. It had all the flavor of the habanero and a little heat. For Jack and me they gave us some chopped habanero to add. Our family liked the original. We ordered family style. I got the ceviche de pescado. Someone else ordered the aguachile. I have always loved fish ceviche but not the aguachile. Usually the raw shrimp texture bothers me. Well, we got that first and I erroneously thought it was the ceviche. It was fabulous. I loved it. Later when the real ceviche arrived, I was floored. But it was also delicious. Salsas and totopos were good. The pico de gallo perfect. The calamares were also excellently prepared. The fish tacos and rib eye tacos were a little underwhelming although the beef was extremely tender. I prefer some carne asada or an al pastor preparation which were not on the menu. The beverage service was top notch. Tequilas were a heavy pour in champagne flute with sangrita, coffee beans, and chocolate. We even took advantage of the "free margarita" yelp offer. The house one was very tasty. Normally I get a premium one. This place was quiet and serene. Although a tour group did come in a little after us, the ambiance remained calm. A respite! The atmosphere is beautiful! A gorgeous restaurant sitting on the river tucked off the molican/old town bridge. The food was wonderful. We had the seafood enchiladas, catch of the day (mahi mahi), coffee chili rubbed filet, and the ribs. Everyone cleaned their plates happily! We ordered some dessert coffee cocktails that were made with a flaming presentation. Spectacular! (we went back the next night to get another coffee cocktail) It was not busy but should have been! This review is for the service, ambiance & cheese board & drinks. I found Oscar's by doing my usual research, watching YouTube. Originally, we were going to go by to have some tequila drinks and try a few dishes. When we walked by, the place looked completely dead. It was a Saturday night, still a little early, so we decided to keep walking and maybe circle back. We ended up going back around 9:30 PM, not for a full meal but for some drinks and maybe an appetizer or dessert. The place is beautiful. It was still up empty, I think there was one other table there. So, we had our pic of the place and chose a table right by the railing overlooking the river. The service staff was amazing! The tequila and Mezcal selection was extensive. I ordered the cheeseboard, but was craving some type of protein, so the chef added prosciutto for me. We laughed, talked, sipped our drinks, and swayed to the light music that was playing. Towards the end, we both ordered double espresso's and Don Julio 70. They go very well together I will definitely go back to Oscars anytime I'm in Puerto Vallarta. In my opinion, it doesn't matter if there's no one there there or 100 people, it's a must. I do have to say, however, that I prefer it when the place is empty so we can feel like we have the river to ourselves. read more

We booked a cruise excursion through NCL and were brought here for drinks (and lunch, but on our own dime). The free drink was a margarita with quite possibly the saltiest (like painfully so) rim I've ever experienced on a drink before. It was so off-putting that I ended up not drinking the drink. We ordered chips and guac and a few orders of shrimp and fish tacos for the table to share. Portions were small, prices were high, food was mediocre. (Three tacos was around $15 USD...but why would I pay that much in Mexico when I can pay less for better tacos at home?) It was definitely a tourist trap. Its only saving grace was location, which was conveniently located off the boardwalk. Don't bother coming here if you have the choice. read more

We had the best waiter / bartender, Modesto! We told him my boyfriends birthday was the next day, and we'd be back for a few drinks.
