Oscar's is definitely my go to in the Franklin area for tacos. The flavors are great and they do have a authentic look and taste to them. However my one vice is that they tend to over do it on the oils and when you order out the tacos are kinda soggy by the time you get home. The breakfast burrito was pretty good too. Hands down one of my favorite taco shops of all time. My wife and I go out of our way to eat here every time we visit the Franklin area. Incredibly fresh food. I always order the super nachos. I eat Mexican food a lot. Living in Arizona, I've come to love the great taste of local taco shops, in the American Southwestern style. Red hot sauce, salsa, carne asada burritos and green chili pork. All typical great fare. Oscars is exactly in that style, reminding me of Baja region, San Diego and Sonoran Arizona flavored. No white cheese sauces (something common in the southeast). My favorite dishes at Oscars are the Pastor burrito, the carnitas burrito, the carne asada burrito, the great beef tacos, the amazing super nachos and all of their excellent quesadilla offerings. Not just that but their chips and salsa is actually the best in Tennessee. Plus the prices are extremely reasonable. This is the best American Mexican fast food place in the Nashville metro area. I have been looking for a great breakfast burrito..FOUND IT! Oscar has amazing breakfast burritos! The other day I stopped in for Nachos. I have not found any nachos I like - most have that weird cheese stuff. However Oscar's was outstanding - they use carne asada, real cheese & fresh pico! Prices are great. Green and Red Salsas area great! Only think missing is the spicy carrots, onions & jalapenos (just a suggestion). The only issue I have - you open at 10 am. Decided to eat here on a whim... it was a good choice! Parking can be rough in Downtown Nashville, so I opted for this Franklin location that has a parking lot. I ordered a fish taco ($2.50) and a shrimp taco ($2.75). The prices are great for the amount of fish/shrimp you get! I loved both tacos I ordered. The fish was deep fried and very tasty; the shrimp was seasonal perfectly. These may be the best tacos I've ever had. The employees were friendly and the restaurant was clean. I've been wanting to visit Oscar's for a while now, but I'm always so hesitant to try Mexican food these days...I'm kinda picky... That being said, I wish I hadn't waited so long to come here! This food is legit. I tried the Chorizo Torta- it's a combo of two of my favorite things, sandwiches and chorizo. They make theirs with scrambled eggs and fresh pico. The sandwich was the equivalent to a Mexican sloppy joe. It was a toasted bun overloaded with chorizo laced goodies. It was spicy and flavorful and ever so wonderful. My wife had 3 different tacos, and she loved them too. My one beef with Oscar's is that they charge $3.99 for a basket of chips and salsa. :( I feel like chips and salsa ought to be like the free bread you get at an Italian restaurant. Next time I go back, I think I'll try one of their breakfast burritos- they're served all day. read more

These choices were great! We really enjoyed everything. I am not a fan of Taco Bell and am picky. I read reviews about it not being authentic - I disagree. But - regardless it is very good! This was a very nice stop on our trip from Alabama to Indy. My wife and I wished we had a place like this in Indianapolis. This place is OK. The prices are reasonable, the food is mostly good, with a few misses. Sometimes the shrimp seem unfresh, and the beans and rice are of varying quality. Service is mixed - some friendly some cold, but trending toward the friendly. I would recommend coming during lunch or busy weekends, but avoid off-peak times when you're more likely to get lower quality food and service. read more

This is the third Oscar's Taco Shop we've visited in Franklin. In a nutshell....consistent high quality and service. This particular location is much larger than the other two (Westhaven and Columbia Ave) but the food is the same - solid. One feature of the Westhaven shop that would enhance this one are large high-quality posters of the food. The menu is quite large (and I've tried nearly all of it.) So, pics for the uninitiated would be helpful to have here...and there is room on the walls. The walls are light-colored and I think the splashes of bright colors of the food would be a nice touch. Been here numerous times. The nachos are the sleeper item on the menu! They are amazingly great tasting! And generously portioned. I'll split them with wife or eat later if I go for lunch! I'm originally from San Diego and now live in TX and have been dying for the kind of Mexican Taco Shop food I grew up on. I was in town on business and discovered that TN has some good MX food (also tried Los Primos down the street for a more authentic style). Ate here twice in one day and will probably go again. This is the closest thing I have found to CA style taco shop, which makes sense since the owners are from there. Salsa seemed pretty watered down but everything else was the best food I've had since moving. I will come here every time I'm in town. read more

Ordered the carne asada burrito and was completely let down. Having just moved here from San Diego I was told Oscar's was SoCal style with origins in San Diego Mexican food. I'm not rating anything else other than the burrito since that's all I had but that was NOT carne asada. What I was served was stewed beef. It was not good and WAY off from true SD style Mexican food. Other items might be great but this wasn't. If you love their carne asada burrito my apologies but you would blown out of the water if this was done right. HUGE difference. read more

Oscar's tacos are pretty tasty. They not only serve tacos here they offer other Mexican dishes such as burritos or enchiladas however the best to my opinion are tacos. The reason why I tacos from here is because they are simple and remind me of my Texas taquerias. When I say simple I am talking about just a plain corn tortilla with your main protein...chicken or beef and topped with onions and cilantro and salsa. I should have known better than to try Mexican food outside of Southern California. I just should have known. I love Mexican food and it's something that I relate to comfort food and this place really fell short for me. I came here with my boyfriend and his friend to pick up some food for the NBA game since Mexican food was the only thing that all three of us could agree on. First things first, I was shocked by how expensive a single taco was. Yes, they are a little bigger than I expected but still way overpriced for the quality of the food. I ordered three tacos: Carne Asada, Carnitas, and Chicken. I was happy that they loaded up on guacamole and cheese on the tacos but the flavor was severely lacking. I could only eat half of my Carnitas because it was so dry. The Carne Asada taco was a little better but still not that flavorful. My favorite out of the three was the Chicken Taco. It had the most flavor and was juicy. I also tried a bite of my boyfriend's Carne Asada burrito and that needed a lot of work. For the price, they served up some really mediocre food. On top of that, they didn't have horchata which is a must according to my boyfriend at Mexican restaurants, and their spicy salsa sucked. 2/5 read more

Yikes! I am the big bad wolf from Austin who came to give Oscar's an "A-OK" review. Okay, okay I am a Texas girl and we know how to make our taco's. Especially if you are from South/Central you know what I am talking about. It isn't that Oscar's has bad tacos. Just average tacos. The meat doesn't have any sort of flavor that made me want to write home to mama. The corn tortilla was good. This was pretty good. It filled the void. Honestly, the best part was the hot, fresh chips and queso we ordered. YUM wish there had been more actual chips with the dip - we had lots of dip left over and I would've enjoyed eating more of that than my chimichanga. Oscar's Taco Shop is a lunch time destination for the Cool Springs / Franklin set that is looking for a bite out before returning to work. Wife, friend and I all went there for lunch today. The amount of food that you get for the price is fantastic. The 3 of us ate for $17.80 and that was with the 9.75% TN state sales tax included. That's a pretty darn good deal - although I think it's kinda shady that you'd post a sign that reads: "Please pay with cash and help keep our prices down." That's kinda sketch, honestly. I know Visa and Mastercard charge you for transactions, but that's just a fact of doing business today. You should have accounted for that in your business plan. As such, I think it's sketch ball to post that sign. I got the "rolled tacos" based upon a review on Yelp, actually. They are essentially taquitos topped with pico, guac, and cheese. The cheese is the cheap stuff you buy at Walmart or Kroger in a pouch and they didn't even seem to try to hide that fact. Alright, so it wasn't fresh cheese but instead processed... no big deal... I'm a decent guy I can look past that. The guac was pretty good tasting but it was also pre-packaged and delivered by a Cisco-type company. It wasn't being made fresh in the back or anything. The chips, however, were made fresh in the back and were really good. Their house salsa is also mighty tasty with just the right hint of cilantro and a nice robust spice. They also offer two additional salsas in plastic ketchup bottle-looking things. One was definitely tomatillo, and very enjoyable. The other was spicy and delicious. If anyone can find me a true SoCal mexican food stand, I might give you my first born. Or, at least, name their fourth name after you... ok, maybe neither... but, I'd be super appreciative. All and all, it is better than any of the fast food places in the area and is better than probably half the sit down joints. It gets 3 stars. My favorites were the chicken and carne asada. The fish was good, but not as meaty as the others, and I didn't really like the breading on the fish. Overall, We had a great experience. This place is great. I usually get the same thing every time that I go and it never disappoints. Oscar's is known for fish tacos (and they are pretty good), but I always get the chorizo and egg burrito. It's awesome. I also can't help but get the cheese dip. It is really good as well. This place is super-filling and I leave absolutely stuffed by these two items. I read several of the reviews and am not sure what the issue is from the California folks. Food is not going to taste exactly the same all over the country (even if it is prepared by Hispanics in each location). I visit my brother-in-law frequently in California and their Mexican food is not as good as what we have locally. However, I can understand that it's just different from what I'm used to. I like some things dry and other things to be more full of flavor. In California, there is chain that we tried that was absolutely terrible and a couple of "authentic" places that came across as very cheap in my opinion (poor meat quality and stale tortillas). The food at Oscar's is always very fresh. Oscar's is a great spot for a fairly quick, well prepared Mexican dish. Best shrimp tacos in Nashville, hands down. I usually get one fish and one shrimp. The shrimp are superior because I'm not a huge fan of breaded fish -- though still far above-par fish tacos that come with red cabbage and some delicious creamy sauce, while the shrimp tacos have a spicy kick. They come in warm corn tortillas overflowing with all the fixins -- fresh lime, pico de gallo -- so they are a bit messy, as any good taco should be. (They do have diner-style napkin holders on the table, at least.) Oscar's recently expanded its Cool Springs location, thank goodness, since you can tell how good the place is based on the line around noon any weekday. It's a stand-in-line-and-order, get-a-number type of place, but there's plenty of seating now. My coworkers have gotten other tacos, burritos and myriad Mexicana fare, which all looks good, but I don't think anything tops the shrimp tacos. I have had their chips, salsa and queso, and their guacamole has some sort of flavor that I can't figure out -- maybe jicama? Anyway, the chips and dip of choice are good if you're sharing but way too much for one person. I'm cheap, and my order of one shrimp, one fish taco is super filling -- the best deal anywhere around my office. read more

Oscar's TACO shop is FINALLY the real thing here in Cool Springs. The rolled tacos with cheese and guacamole are by far the best in Middle Tennessee if you like the Robertos-esque, Baja / Southern California style. The hot sauce, tomatillo sauce, and even the basic quesadillas with flour tortillas will remind you of Taco Fiesta, Alberto's, and all the other 'berto's :-) read more
