I've been going to Sopapilla since they first opened & have always enjoyed it. I moved here from Dallas & my favorite restaurant there was Blue Mesa. I had been craving their southwestern cuisine since moving here, & Sopapilla came close! Recently had Sunday lunch there with a party of 7. It actually wasn't extremely busy, as tables began to clear by the time we got seated for our 12:45 reservation. Unfortunately, many times, it's when the rush calms that service at many restaurants wanes. Apparently, there was an issue with/in the kitchen that greatly slowed our service, & our waiter tried to joke about it & wasn't always attentive for drinks/refills. 2 in our party didn't get their food until much later & it was the wrong thing. I think the rest of us enjoyed our food when we got it. I say all that to tell about the professional & generous way the owner has handled trying to make up for our less than ideal experience. We were given complimentary Sopapilla's (which used to be free for everyone), & then he gave us all gift cards. I feel he has more than compensated for this one negative experience. This last time was an anomaly, & I would highly recommend Sopapilla. I will definitely be returning. Always good chips & salsa. I always get the dip sampler with 2 queso + 1 guac, but it normally comes w a bean dip, queso, & guac. I've had many different entrees, all good. This time it was carne asada & brisket street tacos. I came back to sopapillas after the owner reached out and apologized for the service issues I experienced a month ago. He invited me to come back and try again, and I am so glad he did! The food was incredible again (I got the same taco and enchilada because it was THAT good the first time) and we got to try some delicious sopapillas! Still a solid choice for dining out. We made a reservation for a Saturday night, it was a good idea, it was fairly crowded. We had easy parking and were able to sit on the patio on a lovely evening. GF friends beware, the chips that are on your table are not gluten free, you can ask for gf chips but it takes a good while for them to arrive, meanwhile your dining mates are munching away. Tried this place for dinner while working in Nashville. I wanted some unique and this definitely fit the bill. New Mexico style and slightly spicy. I really like this place. Chips were thin and crispy. Salsa was spicy and good, not the tomato sauce based kind. I had Tres Tamales. One pork with a rich red sauce. One corn and pepper one with a mild sour cheese sauce and one chicken with a green (verde) sauce. Absolutely delicious. I have not had the flavors of these Tamales. And they were huge. I could only eat half. Black beans and rice were tasty accompaniments. Service with Alex was great. Ill be back. read more

My husband and I moved to Tennessee from Colorado, and if you know... you know how hard it is to find truly authentic Mexican food here--especially real green chili. We've been searching for years, and this place is the real deal. From the moment we saw Hatch green chili on the menu (and in actual photos!), we knew this wasn't the usual "tomatillo sauce passed off as green chili." The food is fresh, authentic, and full of the flavors we've missed so much since leaving Colorado. The green chili is incredible--exactly what we grew up with. If you're a Colorado or Southwest transplant, or just someone looking for genuinely amazing Mexican food, this place is a must. This has to be one of the best restaurants in Franklin. We got the sopapillas platter which had a taco, tamale, and enchilada with rice and beans. It was incredible. and to top it off, Cora made us an incredible set of sopapillas for a dessert! Lastly was the ambiance of this place was so cool. Went today (Sunday) to try their tortilla chicken soup- I heard it was amazing. The server we had (taller man prob mid 30's in all black) kind of ruined the experience. He wasn't very professional and didn't seem to be that interested in what he was doing. I ordered the tortilla soup and asked to add chicken- that is how it is listed on the menu- add chicken is right below the description for $2. My daughter ordered the grilled fajita salad- she asked for the steak. As he took our order he didn't write anything down which always makes me nervous but ok & again didn't seem very attentive. Our food came out and looked delicious especially the salad. The chicken for my soup was dropped right on top of my soup, which was fine- the soup didn't seem to be a brothy soup more of a creamy soup, I noticed chunks of potato and thought it was interesting but thought maybe it was just their take on the soup. About half way through I noticed that in addition to the chicken there was another meat which I thought was odd. About that time I was full so only had eaten about 1/2 of the soup. When he came to bring our check I noticed that it said "green chili stew" and not tortilla soup. When he came back I asked him - "was this the tortilla soup or green chili?" He said "the green chili" and I said oh ok that's not what I ordered- and he then said yeah I thought it was weird you wanted to add chicken. Which I was thinking well if you thought that was odd then why didn't you ask and clarify then? So he then said is that ok? And I said well no, I wanted the tortilla soup but it's too late now. He offered to bring me some to go which I said would be great. So it was nice that he tried to make it right but being that the only reason we went there was to try the soup it just kind of ruined the visit. I felt that the error could have been avoided if more attention had possibly been given from the beginning. read more

So....we were arguing in the Hobby lobby parking lot where to go for dinner as we always do...just the two of us. I threw out Mexican and initially the response was "we do Mexican all the time" but eventually she saw the light and suggested this place where she had lunch with our daughter but I had never tried....so here's what I found (her review won't be as detailed or awesome).... Ambiance:: Corner of the Complex next to Herban Market and ample parking (at least when we showed up. Nothing to write home about - not a ton of mexican fare or colors just a standard table and booth set up. Service: Service was great - our host and server were very attentive (it was a slow night apparently also) but either way they were very nice and prompt. Food: I had the Surf & Turf Fajitas which were cooked well and tender. Too many onions and not enough peppers for my liking and the guac / pico were not enough to fill 3 tortillas with the meat. Lots of onions - not sure maybe because it helps for flavor and maybe there are cheap so as to up the profit margin but the tall a good dish. Portions were a bit smaller than other places that i prefer but not a bad portion. Price: IMO - too pricey - $7 for a Pacifico on draft and $13 for my wife's white Sangeia...wow thought we were on broadway! $22 and $25 for the fajitas and again I've had larger portions at other places with equal quality for much less...(see other mexican reviews from me) Summary; If you are Hangry and have to pick a place on Franklin road then you will get good service and food here but you'll pay for it. For just the two of us $80 for 2 fajitas and 3 drinks....just a bit too pricey for Mexican food for me.... it like I said before you'll enjoy the meal and the service. Keep Munching!!! read more

Sopapilla's attempts an elevated Mexican cuisine, but left me wishing I'd gone to my staple Mexican dive. The flavor is just not there. The refried beans were bland, and even their spiciest sauce did not pack any punch. The chicken took notes from the beans -- it was also dry. The pricing is absurd. I Absolutely recommend Sopapilla's!!! Great atmosphere with great friendly service. The food omg the food was fantastic!! You must try the pineapple guacamole oh wow it's so good. We ordered the street tacos and dos tacos and all were good but my favorite was the brisket taco very delicious. I think the thing that sits their food apart is the attention to detail that they put into it along with the different style sauces that really brought out the flavors and enhanced the tacos. My only complaint is that I didn't get another order of the pineapple guacamole to take home. I'm serious if you go you must get the pineapple guacamole. It was so so good. read more

I love the flavors but it's been a while since I've been back. I tend to struggle with pricing or service every time I go so I just quit for a long while. I had the taste for their street nachos today so thought I'd give it another try. The flavor was great as usual. They've now added an extra $4 charge for a protein. So the $15 is now a base fee. Add chicken and you're at $19. Plus tax, plus tip. Although the online menu says $12.50 plus $4.50 for the protein. The pricing inconsistency and increases, along with a bar tender that doesn't smile, and just seems to have a chip on her shoulder, makes for an unpleasant overall experience. I wish the whole experience were better because I do enjoy the flavors. read more

I attended a small work event here last year in the VIP room and it was just lovely! Private, warm, comfortable and the food was delish. It made enough of an impression that I hosted a college alumni event here recently in the same room. It was decorated beautifully for the holidays and everyone commented it was the perfect place to meet. The stew and brisket quesadillas were the menu standouts, along with the generous cocktails. Our server Christina was on top of everything and so nice! This is a fantastic place to bring a group and there's free self-parking all around the restaurant. read more

Customer service was awful. Ordered food online for delivery and food came out completely incorrect. Sopapilla's was unwilling to provide a refund for the order that was incorrect. We ordered chicken enchiladas and there were only onions and cabbage in the burrito. When we brought the issue to their attention they wanted to deflect and put the responsibility on uber eats. The food, today, was not remotely close to the quality it was in the past two years. The queso was like processed cheese. The ahi tuna salad was inedible. Thankfully, the kind server recognize d the lack of quality and did not charge us the $27.00 salad. The shredded beef taco was so extremely salty. My grandson couldn't eat it. The guacamole was premade and tasted like it was from a plastic container. They charged for soda water. Nobody does that. Also charged for sharing a plate. It was a $27.00 salad and 14.50 dip combo. That was enough spent not to charge $3. It shows they must really be hurting. The chips were good. That's was about it. We were looking forward to going since we hadn't been in a couple years. Something must have changed with ownership and management. I won't be going back, sadly. It was a good place to have good drinks and good food. Now, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. read more

Closest thing to New Mexican styled food I can find in Nashville. It's not exactly "authenticate" New Mexican food but close enough for TN. Had close to no spice from the green chiles in my stuffed sopapilla. For reference, I lived in NM for several years and their low spice meals were spicy. Queso was delicious, but again, not much spice but overall great flavor. Server was nice and knowledgeable and over all decor was good but saw a good amount of spider webs towards the front waiting area on the decor and plants. Will be back for more! read more

Back for the first time and as great as ever. Came in on a Saturday afternoon and was able to seat immediately at a table by the window. First off, great service. Attentive, friendly and kept the drinks topped off. Food served while still piping hot. Second the food was great. G had the three Street Tacos and two filled her up. I had the Angus steak fajitas and wow, that was tender and delicious beef! Enough food to bring home and make a snack out of it the next day. All-in-all, another great visit! read more

Moving to Tennessee we were on the hunt for delicious homemade Mexican style food and this place hits the spot! Sopapillas is a New Mexican base cuisine and it tastes authentic to the places I've loved when in New Mexico. Dishes I've tried: tortilla soup (10/10)- they add so many veggies and it is filled with meat green beef enchiladas (10/10)- tortillas and sauce tastes homemade mini chimichangas (10/10)- MY FAVORITE DISH surf and turf (10/10)- delicious! Shrimp was seasoned VERY well carne asada tacos (10/10)- juicy to perfection Baja tacos (10/10)- batter was delicious and had a great amount of fish which is nice. Prices are VERY reasonable especially for the quality. Service: Drea is great and I believe Rob! Ambiance: Very nice and caters well to their style. We loved all the food we tried!!! I only wish we didn't live an hour away or we'd be here every week. There were three of us, the chips and salsa are complimentary l, we got queso too. They both had a nice Smokey flavor. I had the pick 3 street tacos, the brisket was my favorite, then the steak, I didn't love the chicken but it was still good. My wife had the steak taco salad, she gave me a bite of steak and I was almost sorry I got the street tacos it was so good. My daughter got the chicken and cheese quesadilla, she got full after 2 slices and said she was sad she wasn't hungrier because it was so good. Next time we're out in Franklin I definitely want to go back. Or maybe they'll build one in Murfreesboro closer to me. read more

We came here for a dinner for my husband's lab. It was a last minute decision as the restaurant we were supposed to go to ended up closing for a private event, but it really paid off! I called Sopapillas immediately and they were able to accommodate our group of eight without a problem. The restaurant is very nicely decorated in a Southwestern style that you would see at high class restaurants in Arizona. The service was impeccable. Our waiter came and checked on us frequently and make sure we had everything that we needed. Drinks were delicious. Sangria was cold and refreshing on a hot day. What I really have to compliment them on was the excellent arrays of vegetarian options. The chips and salsa were plentiful and delicious. The salsa was a very nice medium flavor, and you could tell it was made fresh. We ordered guacamole, queso, and the skillet nachos. The queso has lard in it so I didn't try it but other people in our party tasted it and said it was delicious. I ordered the Fajita Portabella quesadillas. The vegetables were hot and the mushrooms were juicy. The street corn was the best part of the meal. It tasted so fresh and authentic. I ordered mine on the cob, but you can order it off the cob as well, which is probably easier to eat. Both my kids had a different kids meals which came with a drink. Both got lemonade, which tasted fresh. My youngest son had the quesadilla and french fries, and it all came out hot and delicious with large portions. My oldest son (he is six) had mac & cheese and a fruit bowl. He said "Sopapillas is one of the best Mexican restaurants. I never could have imagined that it could be that good! " We ended the meal with hot Sopapillas for dessert. Some came with strawberries and chocolate and some came with honey. One bite and it transported me back to Arizona and sunset dinners with my husband and his family. read more

Well. Darn. This has been one of my favorite places for Tex Mex. Both the service and the food has taken a major downturn. I was shocked at last week's health rating in the 60s but thought I'd give it a try; surely after such a horrific score they would be minding their Ps and Qs. Nope. I sat at the bar and waited forever for service. I asked for water upon ordering our meal and drinks. The drinks were served but the water didn't arrive until after we were half finished with our food. After ordering our food, we waited and waited. My guest even commented on how long it was taking. The food finally arrived and it was cold. Literally cold. I can't believe that no one - not a manager or anyone else ran the food. My order was missing major ingredients listed on the menu. Pretty bad experience after past experiences that have been trending downward. And with the health score... Sopapilla and I are on a break. read more

One of my favorite restaurants in Franklin! We eat here at least once a week. Every dish we've tried is great, but I especially love the steak tacos and the blue corn chicken tacos.
