Food is tasty. Went for a lunch meeting. While the service was great, there was a sense that they wanted us in and out at. The waiter was at the table every minute to ask for our order after we ordered an app and drinks. Then after we were served, and before we could ask for another round, he was handing us a check. The restaurant was probably at 40- 50% capacity during the time we were there. I would go again, but not at lunch or for an event where we may want some time to converse. read more

My husband and I had a reservation at 7:15, the place was packed which is always a good sign. We arrived a little early and had a cocktail from one of the servers near the bar, Christian. He grabbed us a drink and cashed us out quickly. We were promptly seated right in time and had the best experience. The spicy salmon tartare was twice the amount of a serving you'd find anywhere else in Charlotte. We ordered so many things, Scallop and salmon Nigiri, Doragon sushi roll, pork belly Bao. The intimate setting was something we appreciated, it made the experience feel more exclusive. Everything was absolutely too notch and at a price you couldn't find anywhere !! Most of all, the service was outstanding. Jimmy was the best server I've had in at least five years. As a career server, I'm hard to please, and he was just the most amazing server. He topped off our Sake throughout the meal, was such a delightful character, greeted us immediately and was just such a lovely accompaniment to the most amazing measles we've ever had. There are very few places we would go back more than once, and this place is now on the top of the list. Absolutely stunning experience. read more

Literally from the moment we walked into the door to the moment we walked out- OUTSTANDING SERVICE from the hostesses, manager, servers. I cannot express enough how accommodating and nice everyone was. We sat at the table behind the hostess stand and did not feel cold or crowded at all, ever. It was actually a perfect seat because we had plenty of space. Atmosphere was exactly what I would expect from a nice Japanese restaurant- soft lighting, bustling service, food presented as it was prepared, and the noise level was perfect for conversation. The drinks were spectacular! We had the mezcal cocktail and the whiskey sour one- both were "oh wow this is SO good" kind of good. The food- I hate that other people had a subpar experience because this was hands down the best sushi/Japanese restaurant I've been to in a long time. I was initially sold on how incredibly reasonably priced the dishes were. Thank god, somewhere nice AND affordable but wow the food was amazing too! We had the edamame (RUN, don't walk for this), spicy tuna tartare, salmon nigiri, beef dumplings, pork belly bao buns, and Doragon roll. Everything was fresh, made to order, and truly delicious. Hand down, 10/10 will be back and would recommend. So thankful they opened this nice and GOOD restaurant in this area and not south end! read more

Service and the overall welcome- impeccable customer service. The small yet inviting and chic feel made for a comfortable dining experience. The Mountain Miso Soup some of the best miso soup I've had. The Sunomono was fresh, crisp and just tasty. Recommend the Salmon Carpaccio for those hesitant about salmon- you'll love it. Also had the Hono/Maki, Philly Maki and Doragon rolls which were all great. Highly recommend a reservation. The restaurant is small, but OMG THE FOOD. So delicious. We started with Shoshito Peppers which were heavenly. The peppers were gently blistered with shiitake mushrooms and eggplant in a sweet brown miso sauce with sesame seeds. The peppers are cooked perfectly which makes them just melt in your mouth. Next up was Himachi jalapeño which did not disappoint with its smoked jalapeño sauce. The presentation of the dish was beautiful and completed with micro greens and a few fresh jalapeño slices. Keep the serving dish so you can use that sauce. So yummy! We had 2 sushi rolls which were so so good. Lastly, we had the Japanese cheesecake. So light yet decadent. Sort of starts like a super moist sponge cake and finishes creamy with the flavor of cheesecake. Our meal was great. We had to wait for "non-reservation" seating at the bar. Boy was it ever worth the wait. We will be back! read more

I had lunch yesterday at Oshen with a friend, as we were both very excited to try it. We came later in the afternoon with no reservations, but we were fortunate enough to be seated right away. Our server Ivanna (I hope I spelled that correctly) was amazing. I have a crustacean allergy so sometimes sushi restaurants can be tricky, but before we even began our meal she asked about allergens so we got that out of the way quickly. Since we had never been before, we asked her to give us a few of her personal favorite items, as well as the most popular ones (I have learned to always ask this way specifically, because servers will often know "hidden gems" that get missed). She was spot on with everything, and we took her advice. We ordered quite a bit, but we could not have been happier with our choices: Shishito Peppers- Best shishitos I have ever had. They can be a bit bland at other places, but not here. The sweet miso sauce was perfect, and the bonito flakes (literally) danced in the bowl. Must see. Salmon Crudo- Salmon was super fresh, an amazing bite. Scallop Nigiri- Probably my favorite dish, melts in your mouth. Tuna Tartare- Perfect "old school" style tuna tartare. Definitely get the crispy rice crackers to give it that extra texture that brings it all together. Steakhouse Roll- This came personally recommended from the owner, so of course we had to try it. We had already given away our menus, so we didn't know what to expect. We were unaware that this roll normally had shellfish on top, but without even asking our server had the chef leave it off the dish. Not sure what it would taste like as intended, but the roll was amazing without it. The beef was fire. Pork Belly Bao Buns- We had to at least try 1 hot dish, and I am so glad we chose this. The pork belly was the perfect balance of crispy and fatty, and everything was perfecty in balance. Steamed buns were perfectly executed. So after researching, the chef has previously worked at Nobu so it should come as no surprise the food would be spectacular. Sorry for such a long review, but Oshen deserves this and then some. Great Sushi presented and prepare in a unique manner. Great bar and friendly staff make this a perfect eatery and destination.

Everything was delicious, including our drinks from the bar. The service was also warm and friendly. My only Issue was the Fox News channel playing on the huge TV over the bar which I couldn't help but see from my seat. The headlines/propaganda was very distracting and definitely took away from the ambiance. I'm not sure if this channel was intentional or just a mishap but going a-political or playing music would be a much more tasteful option - unless they are specifically catering to a certain demographic. I'd love to come again but I will leave if I see that station playing. read more

I hate to do this because honestly i don't want it to get any more crowded than it already is. But it's truly amazing food and service. I just wish they made the place bigger. Everything we had was amazing. We brought our baby with us and they were amazing about that. The hostess and wait staff were all amazing.
