This has officially become my airport/dinner ritual whenever I'm in Charlotte! Hands down our favorite all-you-can-eat sushi spot! The staff has always been incredibly friendly, and we've even had the same waiter a couple of times now. He's consistently attentive, welcoming, and makes sure everything comes out quickly. Service has honestly been great every visit. The restaurant itself is adorable. I love the futuristic waiting pods when you first walk in, and the oversized sushi chef statues are the cutest touch. The whole restaurant has a fun, modern atmosphere that's perfect for date night, dinner with friends, or just satisfying a serious sushi craving. We always order the AYCE menu, and it never disappoints. Everything comes out consistently fresh, beautifully presented, and you can definitely tell they take pride in the quality. We started with appetizers: -Shrimp Lollipops were perfectly crispy on the outside while the shrimp stayed juicy and tender inside. Even though they're fried, the breading doesn't overpower the shrimp at all. -Takoyaki had a crispy golden exterior with a soft, savory center filled with octopus. They're an acquired taste if you've never had them before, but they're worth trying. -Fried Calamari was exactly what you want. Crispy, lightly seasoned, and tender instead of rubbery. -And of course... we ordered two servings of Crab Rangoon because one is never enough! They're always hot, creamy and pair perfectly with the sweet chili dipping sauce. Now for my absolute favorite... The Carpaccio is honestly one of the best things. I could probably eat three plates of it if they didn't limit it to one order per person. The fish is sliced incredibly thin, melts in your mouth, and tastes unbelievably fresh. Each variety has its own toppings that perfectly complement the fish, while the citrusy ponzu sauce ties everything together with a bright, savory finish. We ordered: -Salmon Carpaccio: Buttery salmon topped with crispy fried onions and scallions that add a great crunch. -White Tuna Carpaccio: Delicate, silky, and incredibly clean tasting with tobiko adding the perfect little pop of texture. -Yellowtail Jalapeño, and ponzu for a refreshing kick. Then came the sushi rolls... Every roll has its own personality, which is something I really appreciate. Some are sweet, others spicy, some rich and savory, and they're all put together really well without one ingredient overpowering the rest. Our favoites included: -Godzilla Roll: crispy shrimp tempura paired with creamy avocado and finished with rich eel sauce for a satisfying combination of crunch and sweetness. -Fire Dragon Roll: packed with flavor and topped with spicy sauce that brings just enough heat without overwhelming the fresh fish. -Spicy 2 in 1 Roll: Our ultimate favorite, great balance of fresh fish, creamy sauces, and spice. If you like rolls with a little kick, this one's an easy recommendation. -Volcano Roll: one of the richer rolls on the menu with warm baked seafood and creamy sauces layered over the top. Comfort food in sushi form. -Eel Avocado Roll: simple but always my delicious choice. The buttery avocado pairs perfectly with the sweet, smoky eel. -Crazy Tuna Roll: fresh tuna with just enough spice to keep every bite interesting without being overpowering. Less likely a fan of: -Mango Tango Roll: the fresh mango added a bright sweetness that worked surprisingly well with the sushi. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the tomato since I didn't think it added much, but that's personal preference. Even after all that... we somehow still made room for dessert! Dessert: -The Mochi Ice Cream is always fun. I love that they offer multiple flavors like green tea and mango. The chewy rice dough on the outside with the smooth, cold ice cream center creates the perfect balance of textures and isn't overly sweet. -The Green Tea Ice Cream has a strong matcha flavor that green tea lovers will definitely appreciate. -The Tempura Oreo reminded me of the deep-fried Oreo at our State Fair. The crispy tempura batter gives it a warm, doughy exterior while the Oreo inside becomes soft, chocolatey, and almost cake-like. It's indulgent and best shared. -I had to mention the Macarons because they're one of my favorite desserts. I love that Sushi Taku rotates different flavors throughout the year, so there's usually something new to try each visit. Between the consistently fresh sushi, excellent service, fun atmosphere, creative menu, and incredible value for AYCE, it's easy to see why this has become our tradition every time I fly into Charlotte. It can be tough getting on the waitlist during peak dinner hours since it's such a popular spot, but we've always been able to get a table by waiting a little while, or being added to their online waitlist. Disappointing First Experience The menu clearly states that the All-You-Can-Eat lunch is served until 3:30 PM and it's also on Instagram. I arrived at 2:35 PM, specifically for the all-you-can-eat lunch, and told the staff it was my first visit. My first sushi roll didn't arrive until around 2:45 PM. Then I was informed that I had to place all remaining buffet orders by 3:00 PM--despite the menu advertising service until 3:30 PM. Had someone simply explained that before seating me, I could have made an informed decision. I was then told I should have ordered a large amount of food all at once. However, if I couldn't finish it, I would have been charged for the leftovers. That puts customers in a no-win situation. The manager told me they seat customers as late as 2:45 PM but still stop taking buffet orders at 3:00 PM. If that's the policy, customers deserve to know it before they're seated--not after they've already started eating. What frustrated me even more was how the situation was handled. I repeatedly told the manager that I did not want my meal comped. I wasn't asking for free food--I simply wanted the restaurant to acknowledge that the policy and communication were misleading. Despite asking multiple times to let me pay for my meal, she kept insisting on reducing the bill until she removed it entirely. Good customer service starts with listening. Sometimes the solution isn't giving something away--it's respecting what the customer is actually asking for. I wanted to pay for the food I received and simply have my concerns addressed. The sushi itself was good, but the communication and handling of this situation left a very poor impression. I hope management reviews both the advertised buffet policy and how customer concerns are handled, because both need improvement. read more

Stopped in yesterday for the all-you-can-eat menu while in town and had a great overall experience. The restaurant itself is fairly new, and you can tell! They've done a really nice job with the decor, creating a clean, modern, and inviting atmosphere. The ordering system is a bit different but efficient: you fill out a paper sheet with your selections, and a server comes by to collect it. Once submitted, the food arrived quickly, which made it easy to keep trying different dishes without long waits. We ended up sampling a wide range of items, especially appetizers... edamame, various chicken and shrimp dishes, and more. Everything we tried on that front was flavorful and well-prepared, making the all-you-can-eat format feel worth it. The sushi itself was decent, but not particularly memorable. None of the rolls really stood out compared to the rest of the menu, which was a bit of a letdown given the variety offered. Stopped in yesterday for AYCE while in town. It's a newer restaurant with nice decor. They were really busy during our time around 2 pm. They do close from 330-430, so you have to order your last selections before 330. We ate a little bit of everything. We had lots of apps: gyoza, wings, edamame, baked mussels, fried oysters, salmon and white tuna carpaccio, tempura Oreos and several rolls. Everything was so good. This Sunday I tried Sushi Taku one of the newer AYCE sushi concepts exploding around South End. I left with mixed feelings. The staff were incredible, attentive and accommodating. A lot of times AYCE sushi spots feature subpar service. Not here. The food left a lot to be desired. The pieces are massive, but some lacked flavor. I do plan on going back to try more rolls and get a better understanding. I also may have just caught them on a bad day/time. Had a great visit here at Sushi Taku...when you arrive you're immediately taken back by the clean, modern, Japanese atmosphere and friendly, professional hostesses. When you sit, there's pen and paper ready for you to take advantage of their all-you-can-eat sushi specials with lunch being $24.99 per person and $31.99 per person for dinner. I have never been to an unlimited sushi spot so on a Sunday afternoon I thought I'd give it a try. We arrived right around 12 PM when they open and there were already three groups ahead of us. The space is very clean and the decor is lovely. Our server was knowledgable about the menu and very friendly. Overall, I would say I'm not impressed. Most of the appetizers are fried and a lot of the sushi rolls had either imitation crab or Panko shrimp that you could get in the freezer aisle at G Mart. The sushi was good, but I wasn't blown away. I would say, if you have people in the family who eat a lot of food (like growing kids) then this would be great. But otherwise, you likely won't get your moneys worth. I love sushi so it was only right for me to check out this AYCE spot in Charlotte. The food...amazing. I've never been more stuffed in my life from sushi but I just had to try as many options as possible. From the appetizers options, to the Nigiri, to the Signature Rolls, it was all delicious. I LOOOOOOOVE SUSHI TAKU! I have been here twice and highly, highly recommend their all you can eat menu. The portioning is perfect so that you can really enjoy everything you order. They don't take reservations here, so we got here super-early for dinner...right before 5 pm on Saturday. Right away, I loved how super strong their A/C was! The place itself was smallish, but had a cool, funky layout...and many comfy booths and tables. They even featured a mini honeycomb at the entryway (this is the second honeycomb booths I've seen this week!). Anyway, I requested one of their bigger booths, and that wasn't a problem at all...given we were one of the first to arrive for dinner. Their AYCE menu was much like Sushi Hana. Here at Sushi Taku, AYCE for dinner was $31 per person (think maybe $3 more than Sushi Hana?), but included just about everything! Unlike Sushi Hana, Taku included desserts. Also unlike Sushi Hana, everything arrived promptly...with no oddly long spacing between some foods. Also, from the apps to the sushi rolls, the portions were much bigger. We regretted getting too many apps...as we got too full to enjoy more than 1 sushi roll each. I was thinking the apps were mini-sized (like at Sushi Hana), so the portions were a tad too much. Now I know enough not to order so many apps next time...at least hopefully not lol??? All the foods were totally fresh, well seasoned and even well presented! I only wish I was able to take pics of everything we ordered...they came so fast and furious, I missed quite a few dishes. Personally, I loved the Ikura Salad, Lollipop Shrimp and Chicken Katsu the most. I enjoyed my Crazy Kani Roll...but again, we both got so full from eating so many appetizers, we were barely able to stuff down the main. My husband loved the Lollipop Shrimp too, as well as Shrimp Tempura and the Karaage Chicken...and the Nigiri items he ordered (Unagi and Tuna looked so fresh...but forgot to take pics!). If you're hungry and craving sushi, look no further. This place offers an incredible deal. All you can eat for $31.99, but the catch is you have to finish everything (even rice!) or pay an extra dollar per item/piece left over. I kind of love that concept as it dramatically reduces food waste and forces people to be conscious of how they order. We added up what our plates would have cost a la carte and it would've been $48 per person! The service was fast and staff was kind. We joined the wait list on Yelp with 25(!) parties ahead of us but were seated within 30 min or so. In terms of food quality, it's not top,top tier sushi, but it's good. The standouts are the carpaccio and the rolls. Some of the starters, like the shumai, were a miss for me (and the chicken in the yakitori was a little under cooked). Also the crab rangoon we ordered twice never came out. Deserts could be improved by adding another flavor of ice cream for those wanting something other than vanilla but who aren't fans of green tea. Came to Sushi Taku on a Tuesday at 6 PM to celebrate my friend's promotion. Parking was a bit confusing--my friend ended up paying $9.40 for two hours before we realized the restaurant actually offers free parking. Thankfully, they gave us a credit once we mentioned it. Our server Johnny was great--super attentive and accommodating. He took back two appetizers we didn't enjoy: the calamari had odd plastic-like strings attached, and the octopus was too chewy to be enjoyable. The fried oysters also left a strong fishy aftertaste, so not a favorite either. That said, the sushi itself was on point. This place is still fairly new, so I have yet to encounter a wait time. The counter service was very friendly, fast and knowledgeable. The restaurant is very beautifully decorated and very clean. TIP: They do have stairs that lead down to the seating areas, so please watch your steps. Their all-you-can-eat buffet menu is pretty extensive then other varies all-you-can-eat sushi buffets around the city. My sister came in during peak lunch hour and we were immediately greeted and sat down. We were immediately greeted by our server who got our drinks ready while we checked the menu items. Lots of chef specialty rolls available. The only thing I did not see but I also did not inquire about were single hand roll sushi. From the fun entrance, clean restaurant, amazingly attentive, knowledgeable and friendly staff, to the unbeatable prices, this place checks all of the boxes! We didn't think we would do "all you can eat" with the kids, but at $15 each (under 10y/o) it only made sense! We did make sure to try options we would definitely like because wasting is not an option (in general) and you will be charged for wasted food! (Which is genius)! The kids loved the gyoza, so we ended up with a few orders of that! We also had a guest who had never had sushi, she started with a few unagi rolls with my daughter and she was hooked, she ventured on to mango tango roll with me and also loved it! Right off the bat, those little honey comb seats they advertise on their socials... that's only in the waiting areas. 2 little honeycombs. The rest is just a regular restaurant. Idk why they don't show the rest and glam up that area bc it's only that area. Also it was HOT in the waiting area; they had to have a standing fan. Not sure what happened but thankfully where you actually eat has air. This is more of the pricier AYCE sushi in Charlotte and idk why. They have a smaller menu for one and don't offer anything more than the other 50'AYCE sushi joints we already have. They do not even have beer or wine. Idk if it's coming, but can't speak on what's coming, only what I got... which was a sprite and I pretended it was the wine I wished was there. Parking is back back behind the building for sure (to be validated). I mean I came and tried but it's no point in coming back bc CLT has so many of these places. And some for a few dollars cheaper and have at least beer or wine. Oh and service was slow. Maybe the staff is new to serving & just not very attentive. Love an AYCE sushi buffet and as they are becoming more and more popular, I love how I can find a convinient location near me to eat SUSHI! Visited this location around 12:30pm on Monday afternoon. I was able to snag a spot right in front of the building. They do have validated parking in the back of the building which is AWESOME! You had me at free parking!! They do have a variety of different more options which were amazing! They have hibachi entrees, calamari, gyozu, tempura vegetables, oysters, mussels, etc. Tried their spicy tuna roll which was definitely spicy. Their Sol-california and angel roll. Unfortunately I did not read that on the Sol roll, it comes with wasabi on top which I do not like at all so I was not able to eat that roll. The angel Hair roll came with pieces of apple which I again, unfortunately could not get past the sweet taste of apple on a sushi. My sushi options were not the best choice but oh well. Either way.
