Island Boy Roll, very yummy and fresh

Great place. They do validate parking for up to three hours. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We enjoyed how you can sit outside, the view isn't great but you are in the city so what can you expect?[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The sushi is fresh and service is quick.

Tora Sushi was last week's date night spot. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Loved the atmosphere and the staff was friendly and welcoming.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We ordered the El Diablo, Green Goblin, and Yellow Jacket rolls, and all three were flavorful and well balanced with fresh fish and perfectly seasoned rice. Each roll felt indulgent without being overdone. The fried Spam appetizer was a standout--crispy, salty, and delicious. We also tried the beef bulgogi bowl topped with a fried egg, which was rich, comforting, and satisfying once the yolk mixed in. The only downside was the espresso martini, which was made using a canned mixer rather than being freshly crafted--something we weren't expecting and didn't love. Not the restaurants fault, we didn't read the menu close enough. That said, the food absolutely delivers, and we'd still come back.

We went here for my sister's birthday dinner and it was lovely. The drinks were made well and the mango tango roll was delicious! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The decor was super cute[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] and we would definitely go again!

Appetizers were good, steak rice bowl, shrimp tempura and a couple rolls. busted it all up between some big backs. Pretty good spot!

I was craving Japanese (again), so returned here for lunch... In addition to Chicken Katsu, I ordered the Spicy Tuna Crunchy Rice and a Lychee Mojito. I ordered some of these items before, so knew what to expect. Their Chicken Katsu is quite generous...a HUGE portion. I also remember it being quite good, but this time, I thought that their curry sauce could have been better. I've had their Spicy Tuna Crunchy Rice before too, and was reminded how seriously spicy they were...much more so than most I've had. I actually really like this restaurant, but several things were amiss this time. Just as last time, I had to walk up to the bar to ask for a spoon. Shouldn't the waitress know better to bring a spoon when you order a rice dish?? Why JUST the fork at this restaurant??? Also, the Lychee Mojito was good, but way too much ice for the price point. Speaking of price point, this is another one of those restaurants that add a 3% tax for using a credit card. Not a fan of restaurants doing that. Lastly, the waitress was a bit slow on the take. I literally had to repeat myself up to 6 times when I tried to revise my order...like taking "Seaweed Salad" off the order. Not sure why that was so hard for her to understand. She had an accent, so there was definitely some communication issues. It also took the waitress forever to bring the final bill. Really didn't understand this either...as there were only a few diners there. *SIGH* Again, I really like this restaurant and their menu, so I really don't want to drop the ratings too low...but things were just amiss today. Maybe I can upgrade the review on my next visit?

Tora is a GOODIE. I really enjoyed my visit. 4.5 stars. Pretty much everything I tasted was very yummy. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant itself is vibey and pretty inside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The bartender made us 2 PHENOMENAL martinis. I had easily the best lychee martini I've had in charlotte here. Very well done. The sushi rolls were all good. They have ample fried rice options. We had a great server taking care of us. They lose a tiny bit of points only because I felt a lot of their sushi rolls were either tempura (so fried protein inside) or many of them had cream cheese - versus the more traditional classic rolls. But admittedly - that will not keep me from returning. I really enjoyed dinner here and will be back to visit soon.

I just got food to go, but it was delicious. It was ready within 10 minutes of me ordering. The parking garage is validated, so you don't have to worry about the parking situation.

Menu and Thai tea with boba
    Dawn R.

I came with a group of 10. Our waiter was very friendly and accommodating. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The entire wall of the restaurant was open to the street, letting in a nice breeze.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I got the Thai Tea ($6) and added boba ($1). I also shared an appetizer cheese tteokbokki ($10) that had rice cakes, tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese. The rice cakes were chewy and it was interesting. For my main course, I got the pork bulgogi. I was not impressed. It lacked flavor and reminded me of a simple stir fry. I had to ask for chili sauce because it lacked any heat whatsoever. I would not get this again. I also got a salmon & avocado roll ($9), but had to ask for more wasabi because they only gave a dab. Otherwise, the roll was good. 2 ladies got the crawfish roll on special ($15) and neither were impressed with it. They were surprised the crawfish was warm that was placed on top. For dessert, I got the mango panna cotta ($9) they said was made in house. It was very good. More light than normal with a heavy mango puree on top. Overall, I would come back. They have 2 price points of sushi: around $9 or around $18. The restaurant validates parking, so be sure to bring your ticket from the attached garage. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was also strange that the restaurant does not have it's own restrooms. You have to go down the hall of the office building it is located in. However, they were very clean and spacious[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. The Manager checked on us at the end of the meal and seemed to keep a watchful eye on things. Service was good.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Cute outdoor/indoor space with lots of seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We had the spicy edamame which was different than most I've tried because it was more sauce than dry spice but it was still good. We tried the spam musubi as an app as well. It would've been better with just one layer of rice but still enjoyed. Both the Yellow Jacket and Queen Charlotte rolls were delicious and reasonably priced. Our server was fast and nice, pretty sure he was bartending as well. Great neighborhood sushi spot for Wesley Heights.

    Ali B.

My husband took me here for my birthday and it has been on my list for a while now. Really enjoyed the entire experience - the sushi was fantastic and reasonably priced for uptown Charlotte. The rolls we ordered were between $12-15. There were more expensive rolls with lobster up to $22 per roll. I would highly recommend the crispy rice with spicy tuna. The restaurant was a cool vibe - elevated atmosphere with a large bar and neat decor. I found it to be a little slower than would have liked, but it was busy. We accidentally came after a panthers game ended and the restaurant was pretty full. I would also say that it might have been slow because of the way we ordered. It took the server probably 10ish minutes to come over to us after we were seated, so by that point we knew we wanted to start with seaweed salad and edamame, but we also knew a few rolls we wanted so we ordered at the same time. I expected the seaweed salad and edamame to come out first, but they waited and brought it all out at once. Next time I would differentiate better. Other than that, it was a great experience and we will absolutely be back!

I stumbled into Tora after a long 10-hour work shift--exhausted but craving a good meal. I'd driven past this spot countless times, always curious, especially since the space had housed a few different restaurants over the years. As a sushi lover, I finally decided to stop in--and I'm so glad I did. Tora is located off Morehead, right off Exit 10. They offer garage parking in the back and even validate it, though I ended up parking on a side street. I entered through the patio, where I ran into Dias, who was on a break. He immediately opened the door for me and kindly asked where I'd like to sit. The hospitality started from the moment I arrived. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The decor instantly impressed me--modern, warm, and stylish.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The patio has a charming view overlooking the street, which I loved.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Since I was dining solo and planned to take some food to go, I chose to sit at the bar. Dias handed me a menu and took my drink order. He also crafted one of the best lychee martinis I've ever had--fresh, smooth, and just the right amount of sweetness. For appetizers, I ordered the Spam musubi--something I've always wanted to try--and it did not disappoint. I'm a big Spam fan, and this was delicious. I also had the miso soup, which was rich and comforting--definitely something I'll be ordering again. By that point, I was already feeling full, but I stayed for a couple more drinks. Adi took over at the bar, and he was just as warm and welcoming as Dias. I truly felt so taken care of throughout the night. For my takeout, I ordered the sweet and sour chicken, upgraded with fried rice--and I'm so glad I did. The food was incredibly fresh and full of flavor. Tora has officially made it onto my list of go-to spots. Whether it's a date night or a girls' night out, the ambiance is immaculate, the service is top-tier, and the food and drinks are unforgettable. I can't wait to come back and explore more of the menu!

Food is amazing, creative and fun rolls. Spam was yummy. Martinis are also fun. Service is okay. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Outside seating is nice.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Middle roll is Hunky Dori. Not sure the other two- sorry I took this on a past visit.

The restaurant is stylish, modern, and surprisingly chic , with a great location that makes it easy to add to an evening out. As first-time guests, we especially appreciated our server, who patiently walked us through the process and made sure there were no surprises. The explanation about the charge for uneaten all-you-can-eat sushi that guests want to take home was particularly helpful. Knowing the rules upfront makes all the difference and sets the right expectations from the start. The food was excellent. We worked our way through several rolls , sampled dumplings , and didn't find a miss among them. My Lycheetini was delicious, and after tasting a couple of sakes , I ended up buying a bottle to take home. Zero regrets there. Parking requires a little planning, with a paid lot nearby unless you're fortunate enough to snag a street spot right in front. Overall, I'd happily return and enjoy the entire experience all over again.

My friends really enjoy coming here on a Sunday afternoon a long weekend and chowing down. One day, I got bumped up from JV to Varsity and they allowed me to join them. The ordering style is the same as most all-you-can eat sushi places. A sheet of paper, check off what and how many of something you want, then sit back and wait. I dove straight into ordering some sushi, but my friends warmed-up with a ton of appetizers. The sushi rolls I ordered came out after about 10 minutes. The rolls looked beautiful. I was able to get 3 of the special rolls including the Rainbow roll, Dragon roll, and Charlotte roll. A couple pieces of Nigiri too and I was tapped out by the end of it. Plenty of food and it's nice to try out a plenty of different rolls. You're not getting top quality sushi. What you are getting is the freedom of entering the restaurant, and not worrying about what to order because you can simply order more. If that's what you're looking for, look no more. If you want more quality over quantity, look into other sushi places.

So his choice was here. Google directions suck they took us around the back to the parking garage for the 2nd level and since we have never been here before it took us a few minutes to figure out how to get down to the first level. When we entered there was a waiter taking an order and no one else on the floor so we had a little bit to get seated even though there were only two other parties in the restaurant. We were able to sit wherever we wanted so I sat with a view of the screen with the replay of the Brazil FIFA game on. My husband wanted the unagi don but didn't order because the price seemed high. The table next to us all ordered bowls and the serving size was huge so my husband regretted it. We order takoyaki, spicy wings, and 3 rolls Godzilla, Hadouken, and Master Roshi. The wings had amazing flavor but were not spicy. Takoyaki was flavorful and the perfect temperature. I get a lot of takoyaki that is entirely too hot and have to crack them open to cool before eating them. My husband did not enjoy the Godzilla roll he said the topping was too much and didn't add to the flavor. But enjoyed the other two. We started off with the empanadas and I ordered my first virgin "pinny yolada" :). The empanadas were mind blowing! They were nice and hot, flavorful, and absolutely a delight! We were so impressed, we decided to order the double fried wings afterwards. The wings were good and had an interested flavor with the tamarind. After the wonderful appetizers, it was time for the entrees. I ordered the short rib yuca gnocchi and my friend the arroz con pollo. On paper the gnocchi sounded sublime, but in actuality it was lacking a lot. The entire dish lacked so much flavor, even with hot sauce, additional salt, and lime it tasted bland.
