This was my first time here at Uchi Charlotte. What an experience. The ambiance from the outside and inside is amazing. The ladies at the bar were amazing! As I mentioned, this was our first experience and the ladies at the bar gave us an experience. The young lady explained the menu and also provide her favorites. So, I left my readers in the car so I couldn't see the menu. The young lady looked in the back to see if she could fine me some readers/glasses. She was able to find a pair. Now for the food and drinks. Everything we ate was table mouthwatering. The drinks were very good. We even received a complimentary appetizer that was yummy. This here is definitely a revisit.

This restaurant is definitely a vibe. They specialize in curated experiences, so lean on your waiter and the bartenders for recommendations and suggestions because I was totally at a loss on what I should order. The menu isn't as descriptive as I want it to be think of the options more as toppers or Asian infused toppers you come inside and I was taken back. I didn't think it was so big inside, but it's huge inside and it's packed but very elegant and cozy and sexy. Ordered the Leche martini which could've been a little stronger. I had the grilled Escobar, which was OK. The scallops were really good. Next time I think about ordering the Denver steak or the Wagyu. I heard the old-fashioned was really good. We sat at the bar. Bartenders were very helpful and offered really good recommendations I may be back.

I have to start by saying this is one of the most amazing culinary experiences I have ever had. The space is aesthetically beautiful and exceptionally well-designed. We sat at the bar area adjacent to the sushi bar, which was an incredible experience because we got to see the master sushi chefs hard at work. From the hosts and managers to the sushi chefs, bar staff, and servers, everyone was incredibly welcoming and knowledgeable. We started with the daily oysters, which were phenomenal. Because it was a very busy evening, there was a slight wait between our courses, and the team thoughtfully brought out the Uchi salad and a bluefin maki on the house. It was unexpected but very much appreciated--honestly, the atmosphere is so enjoyable that you'll be in no rush to finish your evening anyway. The hot rock is both fun and delicious (pro-tip: use both sauces in combination!). The bluefin chutoro, pork flank, and spicy crunchy roll were all absolutely top-notch. Another shining star to end the night is the fried milk dessert. Do yourself a favor and save room, because this is a next-level dessert unlike anything else. The flavor explosion from the actual fried milk balls is life-changing. For drinks, I highly suggest their signature cocktails, the Subarashi and the Nikko Martini. You truly can't go wrong here. I can't wait to come back to try the rooftop bar menu and the chef's tasting option!

This place is so cute and nice. Love the aesthetics Inside. Plenty of seating and very spacious. The service was good. They are very knowledgeable and know there things. Was very helpful with recommendations. The food was delicious. Like any other place in clt, definitely pricey compared to the portion. It was worth checking out once but I can definitely get more elsewhere. Nothing bad about this place. Parking can be done either valet or in the parking garage. It's set in a good area, they'll get plenty of business for sure.

Second visit -- came with a large group to celebrate a special occasion with a reservation. The service took longer this time when it came to getting the items we ordered, but our server was so generous and brought out multiple complimentary appetizers, including the karaage, rock shrimp karaage, Brussels sprouts, crispy tuna rice, edamame, and the Uchi salad. Ambience Low lighting hanging over the tables, no table lamps this time. Maybe a little too dark? Depends on your preference. Music varies a bit, but it seems to lean toward Gen Z-era pop music. Madai crudo Fresh, raw, light flavored fish with a little fattiness to it that pairs perfectly with the apple and ponzu. No complaints at all, but it's not as impressive as the Hama chili or the bluefin tuna. Cured anchovy nigiri Not even comparable to anchovies from a Cento can. This wasn't overly fishy at all, and the anchovy itself has a nice meaty bite. Salty and a little vinegary, but nothing overwhelming. It pairs so well with the warm rice underneath. I feel like this is a very consumer-friendly, approachable way to eat anchovy. Ham and eggs Good, but honestly it tastes like a really good fried tempura roll. The flavors don't feel especially unique -- it's just solid. Walu walu Perfectly cooked. Flavor is very light and delicate. Very similar to the miso salmon, honestly. You definitely don't need both. Miso salmon Perfectly cooked fish with a very light flavor. Loved the pickled vegetables and mushrooms on the side. I'm usually not huge on ordering cooked salmon at Japanese restaurants because I think salmon is superior raw, but this was really good. Very approachable and easy for almost anyone to enjoy. This dish has a little more flavor and feels slightly more substantial than the walu walu. Bluefin tuna Loved this. Perfect balance of sweet and savory with a mild wasabi kick. The tuna surprisingly wasn't fishy or metallic tasting at all. I think this paired with the Hama chili would be perfect. Brussels sprouts Sweet, smoky, charred, but not overly bitter at all. Tangy from a bit of citrus, and cooked perfectly without getting mushy. These are ridiculously addictive. Best Brussels sprouts I've had so far. Edamame Served hot and grilled, so they're charred with salt and lemon, and it's incredible. Such a unique way to serve edamame that actually packs a ton of flavor. Best edamame I've had anywhere so far. Uchi salad These come as like 5-6 little lettuce cups filled with toppings, all individually wrapped with what I think is seaweed. You basically pick them up like little lettuce tacos and eat them with your hands. All of the elements work so well together. It's savory, slightly creamy, crunchy from both the crispy rice and the pickled daikon. I also love that the greens actually feel intentional. It's not like a typical side salad with filler greens that taste like nothing. Everything feels fresh, colorful, and thoughtfully balanced. This feels so much more unique than a regular side salad. Palate cleanser A little tablespoon-sized dollop of sorbet served on a chilled soup spoon that you eat in one bite. This one tasted like a ginger sorbet -- subtly sweet, a little spicy, and refreshingly cold. Coconut tapioca dessert A scoop of lychee sorbet surrounded by this rich but airy and thick creamy layer that almost feels like a pillow, with buttery crunchy bits and pickled blueberry at the bottom. This was fantastic. You must use your spoon to dig all the way to the bottom to get every element of the dish in one bite. Compared to the Jasmine cream dessert, they share similar textures and elements -- the sorbet/shaved ice, the creaminess, the buttery crunch, plus fruit components (blueberry vs. pineapple). You probably don't need both, but honestly they're equal contenders to me in terms of flavor and creativity. Karaage Also delicious, and very similar to the shrimp version except not spicy. The chicken pieces are actually pretty big, and the portion is generous, definitely enough to share with a handful of people. I don't think you need both the chicken and shrimp though -- just pick one. The one thing is that it could definitely be crunchier. The sauce softens the coating which diminishes that signature Japanese karaage crunch. Flavor is great, but i wish the chicken retained a crunchier exterior. Rock shrimp karaage According to our server, this is the spiciest thing on the menu, but honestly it's only mildly spicy. Not a bad thing, just an observation. The flavor is delicious, but again, I think the fry could've been crispier. The shrimp pieces are small, but the overall portion is generous and easy to share. Flavor is fantastic, but the texture could be improved since the sauce softens the crunch a bit too much.

We went for our anniversary and we were pleasantly surprised. The staff were all very dialed in wishing us a Happy Anniversary. We ordered the chefs tasting menu for two and it was great. Plenty of food and the staff worked well together to deliver. What was nice was that there was no pressure to turn our table. Perhaps it was the tasting men u, but unlike some new and hot restaurants who want to turn tables, we didn't feel pressured at all. Highly recommended.

Went to Uchi for my birthday dinner and had such a great experience from start to finish. Booking the reservation was super easy. When we arrived, we were greeted with a sweet little "Happy Birthday" card displayed at the table, which I thought was such a thoughtful touch and a really nice acknowledgment. Our server was amazing -- so attentive, knowledgeable, and helpful walking us through the menu and explaining the different dining options between à la carte and omakase (which I'll definitely be coming back to try). Throughout the night, we ordered a mix of dishes. Some highlights for me were the Hamachi Chili, the yellowtail nigiri, and the salmon toro nigiri (salmon belly). Yellowtail is my favorite fish and Uchi absolutely delivered. We also ordered the hot rock, short ribs, Hamachi crispy rice, spicy crunchy tuna roll, and oysters from the daily specials menu. The oysters were fresh, although on the smaller side. The hamachi crispy rice had a sauce that was kick to it - FYI. One thing that really stood out was how generous and hospitable the staff was throughout the evening. We received dishes for us to try including the tempura killer cauliflower and chicken karaage, which was such a nice surprise and made the experience feel even more special. I love the Thai chili flavors the chicken karaage had, and the pickled radish and cucumbers were refreshing with the dish. They treated me to a complimentary cocktail for my birthday called the Mitsu Mitsu and it was SO good -- if you like yuzu/citrus flavors, I highly recommend ordering it. Overall, it was such a memorable birthday dinner and the service truly elevated the entire experience.

Upscale Japanese dining in a beautiful yet casual setting, Uchi is well worth the multiple attempts it may take to secure a timely table. Uchi's been open in Charlotte for three months, and It took us ONLY two of those to make our 6:00 weekend reservation. All I had to do was log in again, and again, for several weeks before I happened into an available slot a month in advance. If you wish to eat at 4 or 9 pm an open table is waiting. Otherwise, at least for now, perseverance and patience, or luck, are required. So everyone's aware, Uchi is a chain albeit a rather exclusive one. Charlotte has the tenth location, next closest is in, let's see, Nashville. We've now eaten at three of these (also Miami and Hollywood). What I can tell you is that the design and decor vary considerably in each as do the menu items. The seafood tends to be locally sourced (relatively speaking) if possible and the seasonal menu is updated, literally, daily. I enjoyed the design of this Midwood Charlotte restaurant more than the others. It's in a renovated historic building and has an airy, modern yet industrial vibe. That is, except for perhaps the alcove where we were seated. This nook reminded me somewhat of my uncle's wood-paneled basement from many years past. That's OK, because what the niche may have lacked in aesthetic was made up by providing a more secluded quiet space for intimate conversation. Because we were hungry yet at the same time lazy we chose the chef's tasting omakase menu. Ten small courses chosen by the kitchen, no muss or fuss on our part. Many, but not all of the courses are from the menu. You can review my photos of some of the dishes, I remembered the names of most. Favorites? In general it has to be the sushi. Sure, the fresh fish is delicious but it's the rice, that incredible moist, flavorful short-grained rice that makes them sing. If you've only had sushi or rolls from a lower-end restaurant or grocery store then, my friends, you're in for a treat. My wife LOVES Uchi so now that there's one in our neighborhood we'll definitely be back.

Come hungry, leave hungry or spend a fortune. The service and ambiance is amazing, the food is good (some really good) but it's expensive small plates. For example we got the kinoko rabe (mushroom and rice dish) for $24 plus $8 for beef- honestly I didn't even see meat. I think I had one tiny bite. Again, the food is good. It's just very over priced and there wasn't a real dish with substance

Cool new upscale Japanese restaurant chain comes to Charlotte! Very chic inside, trendy vibe, great bar and nice sections of dining inside. Also a patio dining area. Big draw here is the 4-6pm happy hour everyday! Including a omakase tasting menu for a great deal! We sat in a nice side section of the restaurant, it's dark inside so kinda hard to read the menu! They have a nice variety for the happy hour , which is food only not drinks. The cocktail menu was a little disappointing as everything seemed sweet . They have a nice wine, sake and beer menu too . Also a full bar so you can get whatever you want really . The place was packed on a Sunday at 4.30pm, so make a reservation! Also new so super popular right now. They have some signature dishes they are known for also great sashimi and sushi options. There is a more casual sister restaurant upstairs called Uchiba, smaller menu but still really nice plus more of a rooftop atmosphere. We had the Aperol spritz, lychee martini and a glass of the Albariño. Drinks were served up nicely in great glasses. Of course we ordered off the happy hour menu and each course was bought out one at a time which was nice. First was the ceviche roll, one roll per order, but they are big rolls. Good for one person. This and the hamachi roll were really good , each come with a dipping sauce, the wasabi is underneath the dipping bowl! One of my friends tried the tofu roll too, called Inari, this was interesting at sight, not your usual roll, but she said it was delicious. We tried the Hama chili, not really spicy, little sweet actually. The yellowtail was really good though. The Okoge rice, probably my favorite and I'm not even a meat eater really! I loved the crispy rice and sauce, and the beef was so tasty and almost buttery. Loved this. They also came and dropped us a salad on the house, super nice and the salad was a nice light touch with a great dressing. Lots of greens and lots of crunchy bits! All the plates are shareable but you'll get a taste really so order a few things. We finished off with the must have fried milk ice cream, honestly it didn't sound good as a menu item, but the description won me over, the actual dessert was amazing. Picture perfect to look at it, not. too sweet, the chocolate mousse like thing was so good as was the fried milk ice cream. The get you is the fried donut balls, put that in your mouth and see what happens. So now you have to get it! Great dessert! Good service also which is always nice. Loved trying Uchi, will be back to try the Omakase menu for sure.

I had *such* an incredible experience at Uchi that I had to share. We did the 9-course happy hour tasting, and every single dish was thoughtfully curated, beautifully presented, and honestly just so good. The pacing was perfect, it felt like a journey rather than just a meal. Each course built on the last, with a mix of flavors and textures that kept surprising us (in the best way). You can really tell how much care goes into both the food and the overall experience. Service was just as impressive, our server Leah was phenomenal!!! 10/10. attentive without being overbearing, and super knowledgeable when walking us through each course. If you're even thinking about trying the happy hour tasting, do it. (4-6pm I believe) It's 100% worth it and such a fun way to experience the menu. We will definitely be back!

If you've ever been to Uchi Charlotte, you already know--but this one blew me away. I've dined at the original Austin location and the Houston and Dallas spots many times for business, and I honestly never thought we'd get an Uchi in Charlotte. Not only did it arrive--it exceeded every expectation. This was, without question, one of the best dining experiences I've ever had. The service is flawless, the pacing is perfect, and every dish feels intentional and elevated. The omakase? Easily the best I've ever had. Creative, balanced, and just consistently incredible from start to finish. Charlotte just leveled up in a big way

Dishes ordered: Crispy tuna rice, wagyu tartar, yellowtail sashimi, blue crab California maki, spicy tuna crunch roll, brussel sprouts, and the wagyu hot rock. For dessert, we went with the fried milk, and the jasmine cream. What I loved: The restaurant's ambience is lovely. I found the lighting perfect, and the temperature in the room was comfortable, which is a huge deal for a chronically cold person. Our server (really need to be better about taking down names) was kind, attentive, and went over the menu with us in detail. She was helpful with answering questions and offering suggestions, and was consistently refreshing our water throughout the meal, bringing new dish ware when old ones were full of sauce, and also wiped down our table before our dessert course. Huge wins in my book! Another thing I noticed and GREATLY appreciated was the entire staff chipping in and taking empty plates. If staff walked by (not even our server) and noticed an empty plate, it was gone instantly. I really appreciated their attention to detail. I thoroughly enjoyed the yellowtail sashimi. It was buttery and light with a clean finish. The wagyu hot rock was probably my favorite bite, and dipped in the sesame oil/soy combo, I could have ate at least 10 of those. The wagyu tartar was also delicious, and the chili crisp flavor really shone through, the shell it was served on was a bit stale though.  The desserts were delicious, and that jasmine cream with the cilantro granita would be heavenly poolside on a hot day. Another favorite bite was the bluecrab california maki. Holllyyyy moly that crab was good. Even with all the richness from the crab and avocado, it never felt too decadent. Really well executed.  What I didn't love: The crispy tuna rice was okay. The tuna portion of it was actually quite good and had a lovely heat to it from the jalapenos, however, the rice portion of it was stale and cold, and tasted a little old. Curious if they pre-batch a lot of these and that's what led to the crispy rice going soft? Humidity is hard to control! The spicy tuna crunch roll was just not great. It reminded me of grocery store sushi, and neither I nor my partner got any crunch or spice. The brussel sprouts were burnt to a crisp, and while I like a good charred brussel sprout, these were just bitter and the bowl was entirely the leaves and not really any actual brussel sprouts.  To end on a good note, I really enjoyed my gin and rosemary cocktail, and my partner's old fashioned was delish as well. All in all, I had a great time at Uchi and will definitely be back to try their other menu items!

With it being my first time back in Fort Mill after sometime, I was ecstatic to see this place show up. Upon entrance, the elevated honeycomb seating on the right immediately caught my eye and I knew I had to sit there. The staff was polite in greeting me and provided recommendations after I sat down. For a drink, I decided to try the POKKA Oolong Tea, which was a toss up on whether I'd enjoy it. It was delicious and settled perfectly with all the food. For an appetizer, I decided to get the Tokoyaki which came in a solid portion and tasted great. For my ramen dish, I opted for a house favorite, Spicy Garlic Ramen with a level 2 heat. The whole dish was a perfect balance of tasty topping, well cooked noodles, and a delicious broth. The pork was so tender and of good quality. All in all, this place has such a wonderful atmosphere for grabbing some food by yourself or with friends. The small plates make for perfect sharing and the seating arrangement breeds a feeling of togetherness so often missing from dining experiences. The staff was so kind and helpful, and I even got to learn a bit about the beauty of Indonesia.

We arrived at 5:17 p.m., were greeted immediately, and seated right away. When I opened my menu, I was pleasantly surprised to see "Happy Birthday" printed across the top. Another thoughtful detail that made the evening feel special. Since we arrived early, the atmosphere was quiet, intimate, and honestly very romantic. We could actually hear each other talk without raising our voices. The lighting was perfectly dim--creating a cozy ambiance without making it difficult to see the menu. The service was equally enjoyable. Our waiter and waitress were attentive, friendly, and never overbearing, allowing us to enjoy our meal at a relaxed pace. As for the food, it was every bit as good as I remembered. The quality hasn't changed at all--fresh, beautifully prepared sushi with consistently excellent flavors. That's exactly why I keep coming back to O-Ku. You can always count on them for outstanding food, attentive service, and an overall dining experience that never disappoints.

Recs/what we tried, best to worst: - Black magic (hakozushi) 5/5: This was such a standout, so unique and tasty! Definitely recommend. The squid ink rice and seafood was such an excellent combo/fusion plate that was just delicious. - Salmon usuzukuri (6 pcs nigiri) 4.5/5: This was pretty good and more shareable between 2 people than the nigiri. We got the pickled wasabi on the side so it wasn't spicy. - Cucumber roll 4.5/5: Simple staple but refreshing and tasty. Recommend for a vegetarian/simple option. - Top shelf roll 4/5: The first piece didn't hit for some reason, but it grew on us throughout the meal. I think it wasn't as good as expected, but still not bad at all. The servers were so sweet and friendly, and the ambiance was really perfect for a date night with the low lighting, candles, and spacious interior. They also gave us free edamame (truffle!) while we waited due to a bit of a wait/kitchen backup, which was a very nice gesture. I would come back!

It was our first visit and we wanted to try the curry. We ordered the Thai Red Curry and the Thai Green Curry. Both were perfection! The red curry had just the right amount of spice to give it flavor, but not be too spicy hot. The green was mild, but flavorful. The dumplings were so good. These were both very good and we added shrimp and chicken. I believe they would be just a satisfying with only the vegetables. This is my go to place for Asian noodle dishes from now on...can't wait to sample more of the menu on my next visit.

They genuinely did not taste like chicken at all, and I couldn't even finish them. I strongly recommend staying away from that item. I also tried to order a bubble tea without ice and was told I'd be charged an extra $2 because they would need to "add more juice." I didn't ask for extra juice, just no ice!!! And charging extra for that feels unreasonable and borderline price gouging. Ridiculous!!!! Between the poor food quality and the frustrating service, the overall experience wasn't great, and I won't be returning.

The ambiance is beautiful, inviting, and creates the perfect atmosphere for a date night or family dinner. The food was incredibly fresh, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. Every dish was beautifully presented, and the drinks were just as impressive. A special thank you to our hostess, Linda, whose attentiveness and warm hospitality made our experience even more memorable. She truly went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. If you're looking for exceptional sushi, amazing drinks, and top-notch service, I highly recommend Yugenn. Be sure to book your next dinner or family gathering here--you won't be disappointed!

Over the weekend, we got to check out this new Japanese fusion place in South End…read more.. As anticipated, the place was very pretty and posh...with a sleek color motif of black and pink (one of my fave combos!). Since the weather was so nice, we decided to sit in their patio area...very nice! Can't say I loved the playlist (a bit busy and random...everything from soulful lounge music and hip hop, to Donna Summers, Salt 'n Pepper, etc.etc.), but I loved the overhead volume...giving the place a festive ambiance. I just hoped that the music would be a tad more relaxing and sophisticated...but then, I get it. Am sure the vast majority of folks coming here are in their 20's or 30's. Service was good. I think both Managers-Owners (?) stopped by our table to check on us...and our waitress did her best. However, we did find it odd that we had to ask for soy sauce and wasabi with our Unagi nigiri order. Maybe this had something to do with it being a fusion place? As for the menu, there were several tantalizing and interesting options. My husband and I both decided to start with 2 orders of Unagi (as an appetizer). Then we agreed to share their signature dish, Lobster Fried Rice, as well as 2 sushi rolls, "The Genie" and "Kimchi Fried Chicken". We also finished our meal with their Panna Cotta (with Strawberry). Well, we both thoroughly enjoyed everything...but our favorites were the Lobster Fried Rice and the Panna Cotta. Sushi Rolls were good, but I felt I've had better? The Lobster Fried Rice, however, was possibly THE best Fried Rice dish I've had to date! The Panna Cotta was amazing too...just wished there were a bit more of it? BTW, I liked their cocktail, "Lotus Milk Punch"...but here's the thing. Despite the lofty price point, there just wasn't much of it...as there was this big block of ice taking all the space (just as with Whiskey drinks). Also, I didn't feel that it was strong enough. So here's where I dock a star. I feel that when a drink is this expensive (20?!?), it should be well worth it. Despite the good taste, it fell a bit short on its stingy portion and weak alcohol content. One other minus I must mention is the lack of parking here. You just have to drive around until you find a space along the road. It's a good thing we came early! Still, this is a great, new addition to Charlotte...and it's a cute spot for a date night or a girl's night out. I'd definitely wouldn't mind returning to try a few more items on the menu...and a repeat order of their amazing Lobster Fried Rice!
