Going here for my 10th year anniversary. This review could have been a 1 or 2 star but CINDY, the person in charge, reverse my review. Whenever I go to eat I don't ask for much, keep my water full. When going here was sat at the booth in the bar section. After I got my first order, I wanted to order more but the bartender never came back so I just went to the bar with my order sheet but the bartender never acknowledge me but lucky CINDY step in and got the order for me and apologize. Later she had to refill our water because the bartender never came back. Later in the end of our meal we asked him can he check the status of my food and he said it's coming. Later he came back and said your food disappeared so whatever, I ask for the check. Our mood is already not the greatest at this moment. When the check came the bartender still had the charges for the food that we never got so I had to bring it up to him to remove it. Cindy came and apologize for everything that happen. The all you can eat experience was disappointing. It took about 20 minutes just to receive our first round, even though the restaurant wasn't busy. When the food finally arrived, the calamari and shumai were cold, my sushi the avocado was moldy and we had to repeatedly remind the waitress when we wanted refills. This was, without exaggeration, one of the most disturbing dining experiences I've ever had. Partway through my meal, I discovered a bug in my food. Not only is that completely unacceptable, it raises serious concerns about the restaurant's cleanliness and food safety standards. I understand that mistakes can happen, but something like this is beyond a simple oversight--it reflects a major failure in hygiene and quality control. This place was only ok. I live in Ballantyne and was so excited about this restaurant. Although a restaurant, they do the whole club thing... the restaurant is empty But they will have people standing around outside and waiting to seemingly create a buzz. For me, the menu was a bit confusing, and the waitress didn't do much to help clear things up. Apparently this restaurant has a strict '60 minute' dining rule. My friend and I were asked to leave before she finished her glass of wine. This was even though half the restaurant was empty. Always a great time at sushi haha. Have a newborn and wanted to sit outside so we came to the new ballantyne location. Unfortunately, we came on Columbus Day which the restaurant considered a holiday so they charged dinner prices all day instead of lunch but we had 2 rounds of sushi + apps so absolutely worth it and was great to get out of the house with a newborn! The music inside and outside was quite loud, but we asked our server to turn it down a little bit (we were the only people on the patio) and they did very quickly. Will be back! read more

First of all, I love this AYCE off the menu concept...perfect for those who love not just sushi, but other tasty items on the menu! The place itself was very spacious, with lotsa comfy booths. The place could have used some color and decor though. What we didn't love was their overhead music...not the volume, but the genre. Also, when we arrived, the A/C wasn't on sufficiently...but this improved during our meal. Since this was such a great value (only 29 bucks for AYCE...but didn't cover drinks or desserts), I didn't expect high quality...but we were both surprised that the foods turned out to be quite good. Given the busy nature of this deal, I didn't expect great presentation...and as expected, pretty basic. We tried SO many things...I tried to take pics of each and every item, but as it turned out, I missed at least 2 dishes. The thing that was bad was the service and the delivery system. Our waitress was barely attentive and accessible (we couldn't find her half the time!)...didn't even check on us for at least the first 20-25 minutes! Due to her absence, we weren't able to get anyone to check on one of our missing foods. We had to re-order halfway into our meal...and even then, it wasn't delivered promptly. The foods were also brought out in random order...main sushi rolls way before the appetizers and soups, for instance. Also, some of the foods took way too long to be delivered to our table. Honestly, as much as I enjoyed all the foods (again, good quality!), the delivery system kind of ruined it for me. I really enjoyed the foods...but hated how choppy the delivery of the foods were. For instance, I wanted to eat the appetizers WITH the sushi rolls...but that just wasn't possible. Luckily, despite all the shortcomings, my husband really enjoyed the meal...as he loves having so many options to choose from. Frankly, as much as I liked the foods, I felt so annoyed with the inattentive service and slow deliveries. I would have loved to drop 4 stars, but I felt that our waitress dropped the ball on us...and the slow, scattered delivery of the foods were just not good. Food is good but service... not so much. The waitress was pleasant but did not do the best at her position. She would frequently pass us when we had filled out menus, forgot our soda until about 15-20 minutes into our seating (we were already eating), and blamed a mistake on the food runner. The food runner was the only one bringing out any orders (except the presumed manager who would bring out maybe two appetizers every now and then) and looked stressed with all he had to do, alone. She said he delivered our fried rice to the wrong table, after we had already asked the status of the fried rice 1-2 times. Then she said she would put it in again and walked away. It took an hour for a small portion of fried rice (pictured below). Additionally, she would not give us menus to fill out and we would be sitting or 10-15 minutes without any food, or menus to order more. Then we had to wait another we 15-20 to get food. Keep in mind, you only have 90 minutes to eat, so much of our time was wasted asking for food and waiting for it to come out. All in all, don't go here for ayce sushi, go to Mr. Tokyo. HOWEVER, I think it's cheaper with the AYCE vs if you know you're going to order multiple rolls. The yellowtail jalapeño - this is small & very thin compared other restaurants I've been too that had this option (obvi hence the AYCE..so I get it). Was it good, yes, was it worth it...maybe if you ordered 2 - 3 orders of it, yes. Rainbow roll - pretty basic. The TNT, it's heavy. I was concerned if the mango would be a concern but it didn't. Great touch to it. Def recommend without the cream cheese. Hubs had the hibachi steak - great size portion with his other 2 sushi orders. We were really trying to get it all down so they wouldn't charge us extra for leftover (despite the only order we made for AYCE). Location of the restaurant- great! A friend told me about SushiHana and said it's a must-try. I was hoping it would turn into one of my go-to spots. Not the case, but it was a nice experience nonetheless. This isn't your typical "order and forget" just to sample a bit of everything restaurant. It's all you can eat, but it's no buffet. You place an order with your server every time you'd like more food. And every roll counts, so choose wisely. The rule is: if you order it, you eat it. The staff is more than happy to guide you through the menu to avoid any unwanted surprises, but you will be charged extra if you order food and waste it. When the servers take up your plate, it better be clean, or else. Time is also of the essence at SushiHana. There is a table time limit that makes you keep the orders coming and the sushi flowing. While the menu leans heavily on fried and tempura-style rolls, which might not be everyone's cup of green tea, the overall experience is a win. I don't remember how we came to find out about this spot, but it is our go to spot now (whenever we are up in town). The food is always fresh and the staff is super friendly. It is all you can eat at lunch (and often times can get very busy), but if you are looking for a buffet all you can eat, this is NOT the spot for you! We like that it is made to order (and you can always order more, but just don't over order!) and tasty. The pieces aren't the largest (but who cares, honestly.. it's fresh and all you can eat). They have a good variety that is included in the all you can eat (and you can always order off menu, but just pay for it), and that it isn't just California or Philly Rolls that a lot of places seem to only offer. Again, if you are expecting a buffet all you can eat, this isn't that place (in our opinion, it is way better as we don't like the buffets). We have tried two locations and both hold up. At 1:30 I still did not have my sushi so I cancelled and told them to just charge me for the soup and Gyoza. The space is also large and open with high ceilings a decent bar area and even a patio area In terms of the menu, I wish there were more specialty rolls without fried elements. Also I've never seen so many rolls with eel sauce. The chicken wings, calamari and chicken karaage were good. The salmon lover was strange, salmon wrapped around crab meat. Went with a friend to try Sushi Hana in Ballantyne that opened last week. For the price, the food is pretty good. Our server was very nice, the food runner was very helpful, and I believe it was a manager frequently checked on our table. The decor is identical to Walnut Grill with just a few new pictures put up. To start, they give you a paper with all the items offered. Sashimi is 50 cents a piece if you choose that and desserts are extra, other than those, everything else is all you can eat. They will charge you if you order more than you can eat, so be cautious. I got the miso soup, seaweed salad, and crab rangoon to start. The miso soup was fine, but not as hot as I would have liked it. I did mention it to the waiter so they could be aware for the next person. The seaweed salad was very good. They did put alot of unnecessary thinly sliced green lettuce next to it. Perhaps for presentation. The crab rangoon was simply fried dough. There was barely any filling. The sauce with it had good flavor though. My friend got the goza and said they were very good. I got the sexy roll, the seared black pepper tuna roll, and the salmon avocado roll. All were fine. I asked for them without mayo or eel sauce. One of the rolls normally came with spicy salmon, which I don't like because it's chopped up salmon with mayo in it. I had written and told the waiter I would like the roll with just salmon inside. Unfortunately, they brought it out made with mayo inside, so I had to send it back. No problem getting a new one. Next I tried the steak hibachi and it was very good. The meat had flavor and was tender. The sauce served with it didn't have much flavor though. Additionally, they only had a bottle of light sodium soy sauce on the table. I asked for regular soy sauce and they brought me packets. So, they need to do better there. This was possibly the worst dinning experience I've ever had in Charlotte after living here for almost 20 years. The food was extremely lack luster and we found hair in my sushi. All the server said was sorry and carried on with her day. The entire time we were there we saw her 3 times. Our daughter requested sushi and I read a lot of reviews about this sushi restaurant and decided to check it out. We went on a weekday, it was steady busy and we were greeted and seated immediately. This was our first time here and the waiter informed us of the ordering process which was we each order from the menu what we would like on the order form. Once the food started arriving there was more food than we could keep up with and we had to use another table to place our plates on. I highly recommend that if you are a family of 4 or more to order for the table so everyone can share because if you don't it will be too much and then there will be an up charge for not eating it all. I'll never say no to an all-you-can-eat sushi menu! Believe me. We had a great experience at the new Sushi Hana location in Ballantyne! The dinner menu has a ton of variety including tons of appetizers and a lot of sushi rolls to choose from. The chicken wings were crispy and really good dipped in the sauce. I saw several negative reviews for the crab rangoon but the ones we had were packed with filling and really tasty! Would definitely order again. The rolls are fairly small which didn't bother me because we were able to order more variety without being overly stuffed with rice. My favorite rolls were the Charlotte roll and Rising Phoenix roll. I wasn't overly impressed with the quality of the nigiri but it was good for an all you can eat menu. We had excellent service and the servers acted like they really liked their jobs which was a nice touch. We are so happy to have a sushi place like this so close to home! read more

Got seated fairly quickly, but that was the last efficient part of this experience. We waited 15-20 minutes just to place our drink order and hand in our paper menu. Another 10 minutes for drinks, then another 10 minutes before some food arrived. What we received was two kani salads, drinks, and a small noodle dish for our kids to share. That was it. No sushi. No soup for my daughter. After 45 minutes, our waitress finally checked on us. We told her we still hadn't received our sushi or my daughter's soup. She said she would "check on it" and then never came back. We continued to watch her serve other tables--including one right next to us--while we sat there waiting. After over an hour total, I had to stop her myself and say we had waited long enough and were done. About five minutes later, she returned with our food packed in a to-go bag and handed us the bill. She said she "didn't charge us for the kids," which is hardly a gesture considering one child was only 2 and only one child would've even counted toward the bill. Meanwhile, my daughter's soup never came at all--not even in the to-go bag. So to recap: we waited over an hour, didn't receive our food while seated, were forced to leave with it in bags, and were still charged for the adults despite the situation. No apology that meant anything. No manager. No accountability. This was our second visit. The first wasn't great, but we gave it another chance. Never again. Even if the owner comped an entire meal, we would not return. Not surprised if this place doesn't last. Do better. read more

The food was surprisingly good even though they use imitation crab and lobster, which at an all you can eat, is standard. The other sushi was fresh and authentic. The setting itself was fast paced, medium to loud on the noise level. This place was designed to have a quick turnover and look good doing so. They have achieved that on every aspect. Perfect for an on the go meal, but if you want a more intimate setting with authentic ingredients throughout the entire menu, there are better options available. The sushi itself was better quality than I was expecting, but the serving sizes were quite small. If you're looking to try some different types of rolls, this is a great opportunity to do so. But in my opinion, for the price we paid, I would've much rather gone to a sushi place that isn't all-you-can-eat. Also, be aware that there is a 1.5 time limit that they give you. We live in the area and are use to going to Mr.Tokyo so much of this review will be in comparison. First off the service was phenomenal and the ambience of the restaurant is much better than Mr. Tokyo. We tried many appetizers, the hibachi and 4 rolls. The portion sizes are on the smaller size so what we normally order at Mr. Tokyo was not enough food for us at Sushi Hana. The quality of the fish was really good and we liked all 4 rolls we ordered. Crab Rangoon: had no filling in them so would not order again. Calamari: over fried and nothing special, wouldn't order again. Chicken Wings: Good crunch, would order again Tuna Tataki & Yellow Tail Jalapeño: both phenomenal and must try's. Sushi Rolls: Sexy Roll, Black pepper tuna and Deep blue, would order all again really enjoyed! Hibachi: I didn't care for, I much prefer Mr. Tokyos, the veggie mainly consisted of cabbage which wasn't very good. Overall this is a decent spot, and I would love to give them a second try.
