The establishment that usually comes to mind is "Square Bistro". It sits on the scenic square in downtown Chardon. The beautiful small town atmosphere is very calming. Great for a pre or post dinner stroll. You don't have to be concerned in any way about safety before or after dark. It's just a great place to be. Making reservations is easy... but definitely necessary. Lots of people love this establishment. It is always full. They have a very nice conventional menu as well as an excellent Sushi bar. And currently they are having their "Fall Clam Bake" with loads of options. We entered and met Megan, our server for the evening. She had a smile that never quit. Her bubbly personality made for a very fun evening. She was very attentive but never intrusive. After ordering our beverages and appetizers she gave us plenty of time to get comfortable and investigate the menu options. A basket of the most wonderful warm bread was delivered to the table and when it was gone another appeared in it's place. All 4 of us ordered the "Tomato Salad" - Organic Heirloom Tomatoes | Fresh Mozzarella | Basil Olive Oil | Aged Balsamic Reduction | Fried Garlic & Shallot Chips. It is one of my favorite items from their menu. Everything is so fresh and the house made dressing is wonderful. I always look forward to it. For our entrees my brother and I ordered the "Veal Milanese Piccata" - Panko Herb & Asiago Breaded Veal Cutlet | Lemon Caper Cream Sauce | mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts. Our spouses ordered "Crab Crusted Grouper" - Pan Roasted Gulf Red Grouper | Cajun Crab Crust | Lobster Saffron Cream Sauce | Chef's Grain & Vegetable. I always enjoy the food at "Square Bistro" so I must say, during this visit the Veal was not quite up to their standards. It had good flavor, however the breading was too thick and a bit dry. Also it needed some additional sauce. I only make that note because it was not the norm for them. I'm sure it was a one-time misstep. Everything else we ordered was excellent as usual. After dinner was followed up with an excellent cup of coffee and fabulous desserts. We had "Pumpkin Spice Creme Brule", "Ice Cream Bomba", and "Candy Apple Tart". Each and every one was exceptional! So, as usual, "Square Bistro" on Chardon Square was a wonderful night out. It was a great evening as always. This establishment belongs on your "must see list".

So we moved, but since we were in nowhere land we decided to just put the dog in the car to enjoy our wine back on the patio. I understand if you are not dog friendly, but I did call ahead and wouldn't have showed up if I knew we weren't going to be sitting within distance to enjoy the atmosphere. When I asked the manager on duty whether she thought I should buy a $60 steak sitting next to a big guy with his arm hair in my face, she said "he is a very good customer". I was hoping she might at least say "I will ask him to wear a shirt next time". She did not. So, If this restaurant is on your agenda for a special occasion, you may wish to consider our experience.

Easy to find right off Krile Rd. at the rt. 44 exist off rt.90. Giant parking lot with room for everybody. Good sized, bright yellow building is nice and cheery. It was a little odd when we entered and found portable A/C units all around the dining room... I'm guessing they're having a problem with the main system. We were promptly seated and a nice woman (Katrina) greeted us right away to take our beverage order. It didn't take long to realize the honky-tonk music was playing WAY too loud... especially for breakfast. But she returned shortly and took our food order. The menu is extensive with something for everyone. We both chose the Avocado Eggs Benedict with fresh fruit. It showed up quickly and looked great. The fruit was very fresh. The Benedict tasted good but could have been a bit hotter. We did enjoy our meal though. We finished with a good cup of coffee and received a bill for $42. All in all it was a good experience.

I ordered the hash eggs and my wife ordered the eggs Benedict. Breakfast was good and we both enjoyed our meals. A little bit of Frank's hot sauce, always makes things taste better. They only complain is that their coffee is kind of weak but then again I do like a strong cup of coffee. So I might be fine for someone that doesn't like to get dark roast. There was one item on the menu that I'm going to try the next time and that's loaded hashbrowns. All in all look good experience.

That alone was frustrating, but what happened next was shocking: we caught employees openly mocking us for the misunderstanding, laughing and whispering like it was some kind of joke. When we brought this completely unprofessional behavior to the so-called "manager" John, instead of apologizing or showing any accountability, he berated us -- the paying customers -- for even bringing it up. His exact words? "Maybe you should just go somewhere else." Don't worry, John -- we will, and we'll be telling everyone we know to do the same. Paninis is a joke of a restaurant with even worse leadership. With treatment like this, it's no surprise if they don't last much longer. Spend your money somewhere you'll actually be treated with respect.
