When the food arrived, the vongole pasta had a strong ammonia smell, which usually means spoiled clams. Was looking for a happy hour drink spot and my wife and I found Osteria offering HH 4-7pm! They have a selection of food, cocktails, and wine so we decided to get a cup of Sauv Blanc each. It was a generous pour and only $7. The wine was fresh and had subtle fruit notes but not sweet. Our second round we got a Merlot which was equally delicious. They have a tv in the front table area so we were able to have a few drinks watching World Cup games. read more

A uniquely bad experience We had a reservation on a Saturday. Not a dead Tuesday, and the restaurant was only half-full. It still took over 10 minutes to get seated because no host ever showed up. When I asked the bartender if he could find one, he literally said "no." Just no. By this point, several others were waiting in line to get in, and began joking about how poor the experience was. A bus girl eventually led us to a table. With lettuce and red onions on the chairs. I asked for bread three times before giving up and getting it myself. Our son got the wrong dish. My husband never got his pizza. At some point he walked behind the bar to get us a beer and a glass of wine (which we then paid for on the tab). Our waiter did apologize. Two new staff members hadn't shown up, which, okay, happens. But someone should have been managing that. The place was half-full. Where was the manager? Not at our table, not checking in, not offering so much as an acknowledgment. My pasta was mushy and tasteless. Nobody came back to check on us once the food landed. At least the customers were in a semi-good mood and laughing about how uniquely poor the experience was. Sad, because we had a great experience here years ago. The salads were fine. read more

There is no short supply of good Italian food in NYC. As elevated small plate Italian restaurants continue to materialize in Manhattan, family style restaurants like Osteria are also popping up to serve working class families. The waitstaff when I visited were all Hispanic (typical of the hospitality industry), but the recipes are still classic Italian. Ambiance is relaxed and staff are friendly and non-intrusive. My favorite dish of the night was the Spaghetti Fra Diavolo, a tomato based seafood pasta with plenty of seafood and tasty pasta sauce. The salmon is a close second, perfectly cooked and served with a delightful kale puree and mustard sauce. The only dish that I found underwhelming was the cacio e pepe. Everything else was good, served in big portions and reasonably priced. And to end the meal, a waiter comes over with a plastic tray of faux desserts to choose from (genius sales tactic). Originally, my family wanted to get one dessert and ended up getting two. I can't wait to come back for a second round of their seafood pasta. And maybe some profiteroles. Got here and our table wasn't ready for us even though it wasn't busy at all. We had to wait for them to do our tables for party of 8. L doesn't like Fritto Misto, but only likes calamari and so we asked them if they could just do calamari rather than the mix and they said, yes, but it arrived as Fritto Misto. Portion was very small and the calamari itself was tiny and the batter wasn't as flavourful as I would have hoped. Got the Polpo Al Carbone - this was unmemorable, but I know we ordered it, but can't remember much of it. Pappardelle Oxtail Ragu - okay very bland and not what I would expect from a ragu. L loves this dish and L wouldn't eat a second bite of their version. Margherita Pizza - decent, but were with picky eaters, so didn't get to order the ones that were spicy. This spot has three locations across Brooklyn and Queens! I visited this Brooklyn location for a Sunday lunch and dived into their refreshing drinks and food. The Osteria Brooklyn cocktail was big and really well balanced! The apps were both classic quality picks. The meatballs were juicy and cheesy and the fried calamari was lightly salted.The pasta was very cheesy of course as it got tossed in the wheel, but was nice and hot. I love the texture of the pasta noodles too. The Rustica pizza had a nice oily pesto base with bits of sausage and potatoes on top. And the Tiramisu dessert was so creamy and had just enough espresso flavor in it. There was a bit of a language barrier with the servers, so it was hard to communicate with them sometimes, but they still did a great job bringing food to the table. Overall, the food and ambience is nice here. My friend and I came out for dinner, and enjoyed the cozy covered back patio (a warm space). The bread, pizza, fettuccine, salad, meatball, and especially the lava cake were all delicious. What was a little wacky was the pricing. We were forced to pay $75 each for Mother's Day three course menu (which was a subset of their regular menu), but the à la carte pricing of the food was $57 and $60 each. Usually in a prix fixe menu, you get a little bit of a deal (less than the à la carte total and/or including a glass of wine or something), but here we were offered nothing special and were being ripped off by $15-$18 each ($33 total). They also added $8 extra to the charge to use a credit card and requested extra money for service tip on the whole charge. So not very fair! read more

It's a quaint restaurant from the outside, I almost passed it, but it is a really cute spot with plenty of seating/space. I like the cute little decors inside, feels very homey. The service was good. Nothing over the top but no complaints. Drinks: my friend had an old fashioned and I had the "Osteria on fire". Our drinks were good, we both ordered a second round. Food: everything was so fresh and delicious! I can't wait to go back! I started with the grilled calamari which is served over risotto. It was SO good! All the flavors just combined perfectly! This dish could probably fill you like an entree. My friend had the caprese which was really good as well. All ingredients were fresh. For entrees I had the "risotto ai frutti di mare" which is a seafood risotto. It was very good and flavorful. My friend had the "fettuccine Osteria" with a side of grilled chicken. I have never had a bad time at Osteria. It has become a staple for my fiancé and I to visit here every once in a while. Sometimes it is just the two of us, and other times we will bring friends - in any situation, Osteria is a good choice. It is an incredibly cozy and comforting spot to visit in the colder months. I have loved every cocktail and wine choice I've gotten from all my times visiting here - you can't really go wrong. The Fettucine Osteria is one of THE best pastas I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing. They make it beside your table so like, dinner and a show vibes. I always give a little clap after. The performance is always enchanting. They shave truffles on it and the flavor is actually just unbelievable. It is 10/10. My fiancé says the burger is also incredible here. He says to bear with him - he understands this is an Italian spot, but he really can't go wrong with the burger. It's a tried and true and consistently impressive option for him. He loves that the bacon comes on the burger automatically instead of having it as an upcharge, a rarity these days. Last time we went, we shared a caprese for the table. It was great to split between the 4 of us, and the ingredients were exceptionally fresh. Honestly this place was pretty mediocre. I was very dissatisfied with the special which was a steak and mushrooms for 45$. The food had no flavor. The charcuterie & cheese plate was very basic. For the price I would at least expect two types of cheese maybe one soft and one hard but no it had three meats, 4 grapes, and one type of cheese cut like French fries. Impressive Italian outpost here in Clinton Hill--have been here twice recently, for a large family dinner and more recently for a day-off lunch, and both were great experiences. At dinner I enjoyed. Lamb shank, which was well-cooked and quite impressive. The weekly lunch special is an impressive deal, with a Two courses for $25 offering (Mon-Fri only). I think you can choose appetizer or dessert with entree--we both did the app. I had a nice spinach salad and a tasty, traditional gnocchi in tomato sauce. They also make a mean Negroni, which seems fitting as they advertise it all over, and it is a pretty Italian quaff. The space is large, with ample outdoor seating both sidewalk-side on Myrtle as well as a charming back garden. The interior is lovely too--rare is the city spot where you feel space is available and not at a premium--this place is comfortable, like stepping out of the city and into an Italian trattoria. Overall this just feels like a classic yet modern Italian restaurant. Nor extraordinary, but consistently impressive. Perhaps easy to overlook or take for granted chasing the trendy new spot, but the kind of place any neighborhood should be happy to have--and I'm glad it's in ours. read more

I've been meaning to check out this place now that Piatto [thankfully] vacated the place and am glad to say we've definitely traded up! Very fair pricing, great food... and slowish service that hopefully is still getting worked on. I came in around 4:30pm on a Saturday when my folks were visiting for my birthday. Given the time [early bird special], there weren't many other tables taken, but service was pretty 'relaxed' throughout our dinner. Also notable, it was...a bit drafty, given that it was 25ish degrees out, but was still rather chilly inside. That said, Osteria Brooklyn's food is spot on. We got: Apps: Grilled Calamari - herbed grilled calamari with saffron risotto: I've never had this preparation of calamari, but god damn was this tasty. Loved the seasoning on the calamari and the risotto was super flavorful. Pulpo al Carbone - garbanzo beans, olives, and jalapenos - the chickpeas and spread on this dish was delightful, along with the perfectly cooked octopus. delish. Mains: Both of my folks got the Branzino al Forno with potatoes - I got to try some of the fish, and it was cooked to perfection! I opted for the famed Pappardelle & Ossobucco with lamb shank and goat cheese pastata. Good lord, this is one decadently delicious dish. Portion size was very generous and the lamb was [sorry for the cliche] fall-off-the-bone tender, and al dente pappardelle. And I am just obsessed with all things goat cheese, so this dish just hit on all points for me. Glorious. Desserts: I happen to love bread pudding, and I'd advise any/all fellow addicts to get the Budino di Pane, traditional Italian bread pudding and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Thiiiiiick and delightful. My dad also wanted some tiramisu, which I liked...but like I said, I'm all about that puddin. I was the only one to indulge in a drink, which was a vodka martini - it was fine, a little underpoured, but still fine. My dad and I also got espressos with our desserts, which were very good and strong. All in all, I have hopes for LIC's version of Osteria Brooklyn. Then had the house special pasta with fresh pasta finished in the flaming cheese wheel what a great dish and the best we had . I would come back and eat any pasta here any day!! And a great show. We also had the shrimp roll from the brunch menu that was fresh and tasty and the nice mini onion rings perfectly complemented the sandwich. It was a bit over dressed. One of my friends suggested this place after going with her family. To our surprise, they had delivery on Uber Eats that could be at the apartment in Williamsburg in 30 minutes. My friend decided to order the Bolognese while my sisters ordered the fettuccine osteria and pappardelle & ossobuco (lamb shank). I opted for the risotto shrimp and mushroom with truffle butter. The total on Uber eats was $108 without tip. The food came out extremely fast. It was still hot by the time we got it. The fettuccine osteria had a runny creamy sauce and slices of truffle. The noodles were pink from being dyed with red wine (according to my friend). Simple dish but delicious. The pappardelle was good but probably my least favorite. There was a ton of lamb meat which was rich and heavy. The noodles were cooked perfectly. Still a good choice just not as good in my opinion as the fettuccine osteria or risotto. I absolutely made the right choice with the risotto. It was creamy with perfectly cooked mushrooms and shrimp. The flavor was amazing and so savory. I would one million percent order this again! The staff gave us complementary house flat bread with tomato purée mixed with seasonings and olive oil. We ate all of it but I did have to ask the waiter to explain the dip which should've upon setting table. Sparkling Italian water is a must and the Sauvignon blanc was balanced. Our waiters were professional but dry. Anyway, we ordered BURRATA & PROSCIUTTO as an appetizer. I can't comment but my date enjoyed it especially the caramelized fig incorporation. On to the entrees. The FETTUCINE ALLA BOLOGNESE was fantastic. Light but savory taste with fresh Parmesan on top and light pesto. PAPPARDELLE & OSSOBUCO wasn't slow cooked enough but it was cooked well. This dish was saltier than the bolognese but still decadent. First time eating goat cheese, I'm a fan now. The portions are generous yet affordable for NY. This is a restaurant that chefs will geek out over. Osteria Brooklyn is not a red sauce joint that you'd normally find in Sheepshead Bay. It's a true Osteria with amazing regional Italian dishes. My issue with new Italian restaurants, they're heavy with cream in their dishes. Osteria Brooklyn is the real deal. My wife and I walk in without a reservation. We just left our sons wedding rehearsal and had plans to take everyone out but the kids went their own way. I have some alone time with my wife, so based on a friends recommendation, we head over to Osteria Brooklyn. We're seated and zero in on the incredible wine list. I order a glass of Rose for my wife while my selection is the Boulevardier. Made with Bourbon and Campari, this was a nice drink to kick off our dinner. To start, I order a beet salad and imported Sardinian Flat Bread or Pane Carasau. When I was in the military, I was never in Sardinia so this is a welcomed dish. Picture a very thin, almost cracker like consistency bread. It's about the size of a pizza! In the middle is sheep ricotta and drizzled with spicy honey. Now the beet salad comes to the table with fresh gorgonzola cheese and multi colored beets, this was a great first course. My wife and I don't like to eat a pound of pasta when we dine, I asked them to bring extra plates so we can dine family style. Branzino is a must as well Mallorreddus. Something else I never had before! The branzino? Spot on. Kudos to the chef, the fish was cooked perfectly and not one single bone. The star of the night was the Mallorreddus. The pasta reminded me of kinda like a Cavatelli, it was shaped similarly. But man oh man when they mixed in the homemade sausage and sauce? And the sauce I'm assuming had calabrian chili because it was kicked up a notch, it was pure perfection on a plate. Very very impressed with everything. The desserts look amazing but honestly, I am too full at this point. One other thing to point out about the restaurant. The interior is beautiful and we noticed there is a private party room in the back? I almost never have an amazing five-star experience but when I tell you that this restaurant went above and beyond to give myself and my friend an amazing dinner, I am not joking. We were greeted by the chef and owner himself he catered to every whim sending us cocktails on fire which is called Showtime, and when I tell you it was a show it was! Each appetizer was perfectly curated to give you a delicious bite whether you were eating it all by yourself or sharing with someone else, personally after I took my first bite of prosciutto I did not want to share! The fried oysters were incredible, they were accompanied with zucchini fries which were light crispy and delicious and we also share the meatballs, wow. We followed up our appetizers with the pasta course which consisted of gnocchi, little pillows of heaven and also the table side flambé fettuccine inside a gigantic cheese bowl! You have to get it they even put shaved fresh truffle on top totally out of this world. We then got to sample the new fall drinks, when I tell you a drink tasted like fall it had the total essence. I came here with my girlfriend for a Valentine's Day dinner. I wish I had known how severely unprepared and understaffed they would be. A lot of the wait staff don't speak English, and a waitress only came to our table for orders after we flagged them down. They were very unorganized and running between tables bringing wrong orders and figuring out which table ordered what. We got bread to start but our drinks and appetizers didn't come for almost an hour and a half. They had a prefix, 4-course meal that came with a bottle of champagne which helped pass the time. The Navy Yard Daiquiri was an excellent choice. My girlfriend didn't like the SEMIFREDDO so she switched to mine. The first course that came out was shrimp with ceviche and various cocktail sauces. The lobster bisque lacked lobster and had to be sent back because it was cold. I wanted the fried oysters but they sold out. The BURRATA & PROSCIUTTO with Prosciutto, Sun Dried Tomatoes Wine Figs was a nice replacement. For dinner we had the branzino and fettuccine osteria. Both were a homerun, and had amazing flavor and presentation. For dessert, we both had the VENEZIANA VENETIAN MERINGUE CAKE, which was decent. All in all the service really dampened our experience here, but it is somewhere we'd come back to on a non-holiday. read more
