This place was really busy! We had a big group with us (8) and they were willing to accommodate us even though we didn't have a reservation, although we sat separately but it was totally okay. It was a lot of food so I would recommend to share if you can. Homemade pasta is the best in Milan and possibly in Italy. There is an always a wait so plan on at least 30 minutes to be seated. Outside dining is preferable but any table available is good. Some appetizers are seasonal but still a large selection to choose from. The food is hard to choose because all looks so good and the aroma is amazing which increases your appetite. I came here simply to see what the hype was about. Early lunch in Italy, there was no wait and I was greeted with smiles and warm laughs. My waiter actually ordered for me! Carbonara and a glass of red wine. I picked the zucchini flower stuffed with mozzarella and anchovy as a starter. The zucchini was fresh and so was the cheese, I could tell bc of the liquid that leaked out of it after the first cut. So simple and delicious. It wasn't quite crunchy, but tastefully crisp and soft at the same time. The. Pasta. I mean their reputation speaks for themselves. The pasta is made in house- they have about 4 kinds : tagliatelle, gnocchi, ravioli, fettuccine, and sciavatelli, each made three to four different ways. My waiter chose sciavatelli carbonara for me. On first taste I thought: grownup Mac and cheese. Second taste made me think comfort food. It was really yummy. If I had room I would try the braised rabbit, but I was just so full!! It's not going to change your life, but the pasta here is made very well. The chefs are confident in their craft and I respect it. This was my first night in Milan (also in Italy), and I just finished the 3-hour walking tour in the area. My lovely tour guide told us that Breva is for the food, so I thought I should look for pasta in this area. I was very exited to find Osteria Da Fortunato and I went with my sister. The restaurant was small and packed with people, we were very lucky to grab the last second seat, or I thought so. There was a couple who spoke Italian seated right after us, but they got the menu first. We got the menu later. Then a family of 4 sat down, they also spoke Italian, got menu and ordered right away. My sister and I were siting there for a good 10-15 mins, feeding mosquitos for free, then we finally got our order. I should note that we were using Google Translate trying to figure out the menu, later we saw a QR code for English menu with pictures. The server spoke English and took our order. The couple who came after us got their dishes right away, they finished their food before ours came on. Same with the family. This just says that the restaurant was really busy. So we thought perhaps it's the language thing, perhaps it was because we aren't Italian and we don't speak Italian, so the service on our side was slow. When the couple next to us left, there came another couple. They sat down and were warmly welcomed by the same server. The couple was hesitant at first, but the server spoke lightly, "Oh don't worry! I speak English too! *laugh* where are you from? Ahhh I see! Well so our restaurant serves family-style and..." I looked at my sister and we were both baffled. I guess it wasn't about the language at all. It might be because of the race and that we don't look European. The second couple who received a warm welcome were Caucasian (from UK). We don't know for sure but we couldn't help but think that was the case. After all, when we dined at the restaurant, we were the second table of Asian. The first Asian table sat a lady but she looked like she is about to finish her food when we walked in. FOOD + Starozzapreti Carbonara: the noodles are chewy and al dante. As soon as you walk in you can tell this is a legit tourist trap, I've been to the same restaurant in Rome, which I can recommend, this is a version of the rome restaurant in a bigger space, so it gets crowded, if you are with a large party it may take some time for you to get it, if you are in a odd number party it will take even a longer time. The service is awful, the wine is terrible, and the dishes are disgusting. As soon as I arrived I tried to order, but the waiter kept checking his phone, he kept leaving the restaurant to check it, then he finally took my order, I only came here for the fettuccine amatriciana, the pasta was over cooked, such a shame because it's made on site. If you are a party of 2 your wait is typically 5-15 mins if you are a group of three i saw people waiting 30 mins. Luckily we were seated right away. For appetizers we got rice balls. They were to die for. I ordered the Cacino E Pepe ($18) it's pasta cooked in cheese with pepper. My boyfriend got the pesto pasta. We also ordered meat balls to share. The pasta is made in the window of the restaurant right in front of you. You can also watch the chefs cook the dishes too. The pasta was amazing the flavor was nothing like I've tasted in the US. The pesto pasta was extremely creamy. The meatballs were full of flavor and tender. We were stuffed at the end of the meal. I would love to come back. Our bill came out to $73. My friends and I went to this place after reading a lot of good reviews. When we got there, we were given bread and we asked for tap water. One of my friends got the cheese and pepper pasta, and it tasted like blocks of very very strong cheese. I can see how some people may like it, but definitely not what we were expecting and not our cup of tea. My other friend got pesto, which was the best out of all of our meals but not anything special. I've had better pesto before, and I was expecting something over the top considering the reviews. The best thing we ordered was the lemonade. Tiramisu was alright, but again, not anything special. The waiter was also really weird.
