A gem in the outskirts of the city. On this visit to Rome we wanted quality food - and as a result, we looked at YELP for some help - go figure!! Good reviews pointed us here, but did not do it justice... The location has difficulty finding parking, so be ready to walk. The pace is very small at about 15 x 25 foot area - hence not many tables. We called and got there late - they had 1 table for us in the corner. The ladies that run the place were amazingly sweet and so welcoming. The menu was small, but we order the specials. And they are highly recommended. The chefs can get creative and it works out very well. We had the pork shank and the pesto gnocchi with dry tomatoes. The pork fell off the bone and was like butter. The gnocchi was very well made with the pesto just lightly seasoned and the tomatoes balancing the flavors extremely well. For desert we had the Amereto Moose - well balanced in flavor with the right amount of liquor. Lastly, the house wine is best you will have. We did the white wine as it paired well. It will feel like water and before you know it, you will be tipsy. This is a Mom and Pop place. And not frequented by too many tourists. Highly recommended!! read more

This was our final decision to end the day after searching for a few hours for best place to eat and get pasta. We hopped on the train and went over not knowing what to expect. After reading reviews we were sure it would be good. Once we arrived we were sat immediately which was nice not waiting. Shortly after we got some water and bread and placed our orders. When given our food I was in awe of it. It exceeded our expectations. The pasta was phenomenal and we also got a pork slab which blew us away with how tender it was. We also ordered the tiramisu after the main course. By far the best dessert we have had all trip. The waitress were great and helped us out with any questions. The light in the red and atmosphere was great. You are able to sit inside or outside. I would highly recommend this place to others. read more

Great dinner here last night with a large group including two small kids. I'm not gonna lie, we're a handful with screaming kids and some with dietary restrictions but everyone enjoyed this place. We started out with the meat and cheese plate and some bruschetta. Both were very good but the tomatos on the bruschetta made it the stand out. Their signature dish, which is rectangular pasta with a sausage ragu was absolutely amazing! My daughter had the spinach and cheese ravioli which she inhaled. Omg. In my European trip alone, I have gone to Florence, Millan, Venice & Rome and I have to say this is the BEST food I have ate in ALL of Italy. The food is delicious. My family and I ate there and decided to order 3 different types of pasta (When in Rome, am I right?) & all 3 had so much flavor, came out piping hot, were homemade and most importantly, all the pasta was made from SCRATCH. And you could taste exactly that. I'm unsure of the names of dishes we had but I'll try my best to describe them. The pasta I ordered (which was the BEST in my opinion, but the other 2 were AMAZING as well) was the Potato Gnocchi with smoked salmon. I recommend this dish to anyone that goes. The presentation was also A+ as well. I'll post a picture of one of the other pastas we ate and the other one, well I have no clue what it was named but according to the waitress, it is their most popular pasta dish and it also is the first one on the menu. At the end, we were stuffed but decided on getting a dessert. HOLY SMOKES. This thing was HEAVENLY. I'm unsure what it was called again, but the waitress described at as their spin on cheesecake with biscotti and warm caramel. It's not in the form of the American cheesecake we eat back home. It's served in a cup, parfait style. UGHHHHHHH AMAZING. You HAVE to try this if they have it, TRUST ME on this. This place is absolutely fantastic! I had 2 of the best meals I've ever had in my life while dining at Osteria del Cavaliere. I found this place because the friend I was visiting happens to live in the apartment building attached to the restaurant (lucky her!). It doesn't look like much from the outside, and is closed up until 7:30 each night. But once inside, it's very cute and not very large. They fill up every night, so you will have to make a reservation to ensure you are able to dine. They turn away walk ins! Everything we had was amazing! The owner floats around the room, while his daughters are the servers and his wife is the chef. Most everything is handmade and cooked to perfection. The sliced filets we shared (one night with mushrooms, the next night with green peppercorns) were the perfect temperature, tender and juicy. Both pastas we enjoyed were delicious as well, and the plate of vegetables we had with our steak was huge! This place is not in the city center, so it's more of a locals restaurant. This is a small very cute family run restaurant. It was one of the best meals we had in Rome and by far the best tiramisu I had in Italy (and I tried many!) We had the smoked cheese with truffle and speck for antipasto, the gnocchi with cream, cheese, and saffron, and the mixed grill. Everything was flavorful and delicious. The servers were very kind. We tried coming here on a Saturday night. All of the tables were occupied and it smelled heavenly. The hostess approached us and asked if we had a reservation. We didn't and she turned us away. We went somewhere else but before doing so, I made a reservation for Monday at 8:30. Best decision I could've ever made! We returned on Monday. The same hostess asked if we had reservations and our answer was YES! We were promptly seated and that's when the magic began. I don't speak much Italian but we were able to place our order with ease. Everything that came out to the different tables looked and smelled amazing. Oh my God! Soooo good! I went on Yelp while in Rome to find a good restaurant for my family. This one had 62 reviews and was still 5 stars! That, in and of itself, is incredible. We had to try it. We got there at 6:45 to ensure we were the first in line to get a seat since we didn't have reservations. Italians eat dinner around 9 so we were able to get a table at 7 when the restaurant opened, but we had to be finished by 9. Two hours? No problem. We ordered a number of appetizers, all delicious. From the bread with different sauces to the melted cheese with mushrooms (my favorite), the food was so good. My son, who's a VERY picky eater, ate liver pate and didn't complain, which for him is the equivalent of shedding a single tear from the level of deliciousness. It must be good. My favorite entree was the spaghetti with truffle oil and bacon (I think I did shed a single tear), but my wife's potato gnocchi was very, very good. The children had steak, steak with mushrooms, and I also had steak in red wine sauce. The steaks were perfect. The flavor on point. We were too full for dessert, but I suspect they're delicious as well. I can't say enough or recommend this restaurant enough to be captured in words. We ate at a number of restaurants in both Rome and Paris this trip, and by far this was the best meal we had. read more

So I will start by recommending a reservation. We went there without one and had to wait outside for 30 minutes since it was full. It is pretty small so there is no place to wait inside. When we were seated we ordered the sampler appetizer with salamis and cheeses with a bottle of chardonnay. The sampler is more for like 3 to 4 people. They even brought a chilled bucket for the bottle of wine which was great. We ordered then the grigglia mista (a plate full of different grilled meats) and a pasta dish. It was amazing. Definetly one of the best if not the best dinner we had in Italy. The servers were amazingly nice and very attentive. We had a little struggle with the wifi password and she sat down with us until we got it. Then she sold us on the baileys tiramisu which you MUST try. 5 stars all around. read more

We had the homemade pasta with sausage both times and died and went to heaven both times (Matricianella with sausage). It was by far the best meal in Rome and that's even taking into consideration the food tour we went on. The daughter was our waitress both times. She was very kind and generous. The mother is the chef and has an amazing vision for executing the food. They have a selection of grilled steaks and the one with red wine sauce is to die for. You must try the food here. This is the type of place you just know is authentic upon walking in. Sleek, modern atmosphere and run by a very nice family. The way it works is you basically tell the waitress what you like and what you dont like and then she brings out dishes based on your preferences. For an app we got a meat/mozz/crustini/various spreads platter. Wow, just wow. The spreads were full of bold, unique flavors like tuna and onion, mushroom, and grilled vegetable. They were all unexpected and delicious. The meat and cheese were extremely fresh and the bread was crispy, warm and soft all at the same time. The waitress was a doll and looks exactly like marisa tomei lol. For our second course we were brought out a pasta duo of pasta with a red sauce and one with some type of primavera sauce and black pepper. Both were out of this world. As our third course we got grilled lamb with vegetables. Very juicy and delicious. However, the best, most unforgettable part of the meal was the dessert! I got dark chocolate cake with pears. There are just no words to describe this dessert. It melted in your mouth between the sweetness of the chocolate really offset the tartness of the pears. It was amazing. read more
