I went here for my friend's birthday dinner and I liked the atmosphere! It was smaller than expected but nice and quaint. Unfortunately, I would give the place a 4 if it didn't take our food, even our appetizers, an hour to come. Our particular server forgot to put our truffle fries in so we were drinking our cocktails on empty stomachs. Eventually we got our pork belly appetizer but it was small so I wouldn't recommend it as a shareable dish. My friend and I ordered a Mango Lassi Mule and we were really excited but it literally tasted like a basic Moscow Mule which was really confusing. There wasn't any color which would presumably come from the mango and it just tasted like lime. Everyone liked their food though and had leftovers. I had the Chicken Milanese which was yummy and a good portion. I also got the bday girl a dessert but they do not comp it which sucks. They did comp one of our appetizers since it came later. Overall a 3.5 and would like to try again for hopefully a better experience. read more

Great place in the heart of Beacon Park, very close proximity to MGM. Nice place, friendly staff with an upscale vibe but not to the point where it's fine dinning. I selected this restaurant prior to attending a concert. I made reservations to ensure I had a seat. There is valet parking and various lots across from the restaurant. The valet is $25 versus $10 for self parking. The place is small and quaint. The glass gives it more of an open feel. There is also a bar as you enter. There are igloo type seating outdoors and outdoor seating when it is warmer. We were waited on quickly. The waitress was friendly and recommended some things on the menu. It was a toss up between the salmon or blackened cod. I opted for the glazed salmon with a side of spinach. The taste combination of the Thai chillies and molasses was a good combination. Went here before the Chris Brown concert for a quick meal and drink. The restaurant is nice and clean; casual attire is appropriate. They have a bar area where you can enjoy your drinks or around the bar area they have high tables. You are surrounded by glass windows which gives you a nice view of the Downtown area around you. We ordered the salad, pork belly, and the dip duo (fresh veggie plate not pictured). The salad was okay, nothing too special. The pork belly was good but the sauce underneath was unexpectedly sweet. I would prefer a more savory taste for pork belly but the flavors all together were good. The veggie plate was fresh and delicious. I enjoyed the dipping sauces that went with it. My margarita was delicious and made properly, not too sweet. Our service was nice; the server was friendly and attentive. She made sure that our drinks were made to our likens and she checked back on us periodically. To me, this place is a little pricey but overall, everything was decent. We had the best time celebrating our friend's birthday at Lumen Detroit! Both the food and the service were fantastic! They had these cute light up mini houses that you could dine in outside (but it was too cold for that lol). What I ordered: - Peach, Please Cocktail - Charred Brussels Sprouts - Calamari - Wagyu Short Ribs - Cookie-Butter Banana Pie I'm serious when I say everything that i had was a 10/10. This was our first visit to Lumen. We were celebrating our anniversary. The first impression is it is a lovely open, light filled space, but whoa, it's loud. I would not recommend it for an intimate dinner. It would be a great place for a lively group gathering or lunch perhaps. We were seated then moved by the hostess, she could see we were a bit crowded. Kudos to her. My husband is 6'5 and I am 6' so the four top was a better " fit." We sat with empty water glasses even though at least 2 people walked by, one with a water pitcher. This appears to be an ongoing problem at restaurants, "if it's not my table then....." We were eventually approached by a server delivering drinks to a table and he took our drink order. Our server then approached and introduced himself. We ordered the halibut and the short ribs. Both were served hot and delicious. Great portions. To end our meal we ordered the apple tart that was served on a decorated platter. Good taste, crust was way too thick. Went to Lumen for my daughters 26 birthday last night and it was amazing. Wonderful service, and the food was amazing. We had the meatballs, calamari, Brussels sprouts and wings for apps. We had a great time celebrating a friend's birthday last night. We were a table of 8, our server was Melissa. We ordered cocktails and appetizers. The pork belly , calamari and meatballs were delicious, someone on the other end of the table ordered the Brussels sprouts, she said they were good. I had a hibiscus margarita and it was delicious!! Everything on the menu sounded delicious, I couldn't decide. I asked our server what her favorite thing was and her favorite was the Thai Salmon, she gave me a great recommendation. Panko crusted salmon that was cooked perfectly, on top of brown rice, with red cabbage, carrots, cucumbers, edamame and a spicy aioli. It was so fresh, clean and flavorful. Half of us at the table ordered it, we all cleaned our plates! My boyfriend ordered the Wagyu short rib with garlic mashed potatoes and broccolini, with a balsamic glaze. It was tender and delicious. Someone else ordered the lamb chops that looked delicious, a friend ordered the chicken Milanese and Truffle fries. I tried the Truffle fries, they smelled and tasted great. I will order those when I come back. There was a patio dining area outside and the dining area we sat in was beautiful, sleek, it had walls of windows that had shades, but we're lifted as the sun was setting. The windows where we say faced Beacon Park and the GAR building. Great views. The kitchen had large windows where you can see inside. My friend was celebrating his birthday and they brought out a decorated plate with cheesecake on it for him. We were stuffed but I wanted to try the cookie butter banana pie. I thought it was delicious, my boyfriend thought it could be better. I loved the brûléed bananas. I hope to come back and try some new things. read more

We went to see the lights at the Beacon Park and the Lumen detroit restaurant with its warm lighting, heated igloos and glass walls looked very inviting. We tried our luck at walk- in and got reservations for 20 mins later. When we returned to the place in 20 mins , I could see few of the igloos empty but we were given a table indoor. The lady at the reception seemed a little flustered and was not letting me complete my question about an outdoor seating which honestly was not a great start to the dining experience. Apart from that , the food was great and the service was prompt. Our server helped us with the drink selections and they were amazing, though not very instagrammable :) . Truffle fries were yummy and the entree chicken Milanese was flavorful. For dessert , we ordered the special of the day -Dulce de leche layered cake. We came to Lumen after leaving another restaurant across the street where our experience wasn't great. It was a special occasion, and we just wanted to enjoy the evening -- and thankfully, Lumen delivered in every way. Alexis and Rose at the host stand were so kind and accommodating, helping us find a table even without a reservation. They set us up in one of their outdoor igloo-style dining spaces, which were beautifully lit, heated, and felt so cozy -- truly the perfect setup. Our server was wonderful, and the food was outstanding. We ordered the lamb chops, shrimp pasta, truffle fries, soup, and crab cakes -- everything was delicious and well-presented. From start to finish, the service was exceptional, the food was great, and the atmosphere made the night feel special again. We chose to dine at Lumen because it was located at Beacon Park and the holiday lights were reputed to be some of the prettiest in the city. It did not disappoint. We made reservations for 3:30 on the Saturday after the lights came on but would not have needed them. We were among the first guests to arrive. Parking was easy at this time of day yet may be more of a challenge later. Valet parking was an option for a small fee. Beacon Park was lovely, with all the lights. A beautiful place to stroll and take photos. The Lumen was equally lovely, nestled next to the park. It was festive, modern, clean and spacious. We left when it was filled to capacity, around 5:00, and the noise level was still very comfortable. Our server was wonderful: friendly, attentive, kind, and helpful. We noticed that there were plenty of staff on duty, keeping guests happy and the dining area tidy. It was fun to watch the hustle bustle in the kitchen through the open windows to the dining room. My husband and I shared a three course meal. We started with the calamari appetizer and it was perfect: crispy with a light coating paired with tiny delicious tomatoes and a garlic miso sauce that was light and yummy. We then shared a Burrata salad. There was a healthy mix of fresh greens, coated in a light vinegarette, sprinkled with crispy prosciutto and candied pecans, with fluffy mounds of soft mozzarella. Great flavors and textures. Our main course was the Lumen burger and truffle fries. The burger was cooked medium well yet was still juicy. Our fries were flavorfully seasoned but not overdone. We would have enjoyed a dessert but were too full. Their menu offerings in all areas were plentiful, varied and enticing. There were items suitable for vegans, pescatarians and carnivores. Great service, great location and really great food! They had igloos setup outside so I'm sure that's super fun to go inside. The park and patio are also really cool and a great place to chill. The truffle fries were exceptional! The dips were good but I wasn't a huge fan of the raw veggies. If they were roasted slightly then it could have been better. I just felt the raw veggies made it feel like a home picnic rather than a higher end restaurant but I get they we're probably going for a finger food dish. The sea bass was delicious and the muscles were a big hit. The green curry sauce- you need to ask for a spoon because the sauce alone you want to eat. They could package it and sell it! All the drinks were good, nice wine and beer selection and the coffee was a great addition too. We needed a little pick me up before starting. I cannot believe we have not tried this place sooner. Ambiance - it's minimalist in decoration but interesting. It's a small footprint efficiently used. It has a "green roof" and gardens surrounding it for an after meal stroll. Food - so good! We split the burrata salad, he had the short ribs and I had the halibut. Both were delicious. I was worried about the chili oil as I have had other experiences where it is over used, but the oil with the cool pea puree was perfect. Service - it was just fine; nothing to comment on really until my husband's meal came with broccolini. He hates it and it was not mentioned on the menu. They immediately got it off his plate and replaced it with asparagus. I mean immediately. No time for the meal to cool down or get disjointed waiting on some replacement. I came here for dinner and sat at the bar. Lumen is a nice, upscale restaurant overlooking beacon park with a well stocked bar. I ordered a few drinks, all of which were great, as well as the crispy Thai salmon which was fantastic. The bartenders were friendly and attentive. Service was A1, but I did have an issue with a young lady behind the bar every time she thought we were done with our dish she'd touch our plate and try to take it and we kept having to tell her not to take it, we still had food on our plate; my guest and I noticed she was doing the same thing to others and one other couple asked why she was such in a rush to take our plates, while the food was delicious it was pricey. 4stars because of service. read more

I think it would be really cool at night all lit up. I started with the St. Germain spritz. I love the glass and it was really refreshing. We started with the charred brussels sprouts and the Dip Duo. Brussels sprouts were absolutely amazing! For my meal, I got the Chicken Milanese, which was really delicious and I cleaned my plate! I've been wanting to try Lumen for a while now so I am glad I had the opportunity to have dinner there before a show at the Fox. We booked parking ahead of time at the lot right next to the restaurant. We had a reservation so we were seated right away. There were a handful of events going on downtown so the restaurant was pretty busy. I would recommend a reservation always. I started with a glass of red wine and then we were able to quickly order and our appetizer came out fast! We got the dip duo which had roasted red pepper hummus and truffle whipped ricotta with a hot honey drizzle on it. Loved both of the dips and they paired good breads and crackers with it. For my meal, I had the primavera and added chicken onto it. The flavor of everything was awesome. Super tasty and the pappardelle pasta was cooked perfectly. I love thick noodles like that! The only downside to my meal was the texture of the chicken. It was a little tough to cut and it was kinda chewy. The flavor was great but I would not add chicken to my dish next time. My mom got the Lumen Burger and it looked amazing! I would love to try that some time. Another person in my group got the French onion soup and the crab cakes and she said it was great. So I reached out to some folks to see what good restaurants were around that would also be able to accommodate a bunch of us. I heard great things about Lumen, so here we are and here's how things went! Atmosphere/Appearance: This place is beautiful. It's set right on the corner of Grand River, Cass Avenue and Plaza Drive is this gem. The exterior is modern, chic and almost feels Egyptian in some way. There's also a large outdoor section that can be utilized in the summer months. Inside is just as beautiful and intimate. The lighting is low, the music is soft, yet upbeat. The space is open and looks like a restaurant that belongs in a downtown like Detroit! Service: I can't remember who took care of us, but I don't remember having any issues whatsoever, even with out large party. Food: I kept it light today so I had the Everything Bagel Wings that were a smidge on the smaller side, but I guess that's what you get when you go organic. Lol. They were delicious and FULL of salty, savory, garlic-y, onion-y flavors! Along side them I had the "Frites" which are like a truffle-parmesan fry. I love how the truffle and the parmesan flavors complement each other so well. Next time I'll come for dinner and try more of a entrée instead of appetizers. Value: This place isn't cheap, as you should know from how I described the restaurant up above. The wings will run you $16.00 and you'll get 8 of them. The frites were $9.00, but for a total of $25.00, I was definitely satisfied. Drinks... are another story. Lol. In conclusion, I loved this place so much. This is one of my friend's favorite restaurants in the city and they paid so I went! But free meal aside this is one of the best places to eat in the city in terms of atmosphere, service, drinks and food. Just a really solid spot for a date or for taking someone from out of town for a nice meal. The crab cakes, fries and pork belly special were good had me full by nights end and I was told the half chicken was good. We shared a brownie with ice cream, which isn't all that out of the box as far as desserts go, but it was fine. Drinks were well made, I believe I had the aristocrat off the menu, good drink. This place has a wonderful atmosphere and it feels really clean and airy inside. They offer standard seating, bar seating, and even outdoor seating, although I've only ever sat inside at a regular table. One of my absolute favorite things on their menu is their hibiscus margarita -- it's delicious! Their salads are pretty awesome too, and their calamari is to die for. We sat on the rooftop on a beautiful day in Detroit and had some really good cocktails (I had the Cute-cumber & friends had the Hibiscus Margarita). The food was okay but honestly not necessarily worth the price. The cod was different than I was expecting based on previous blackened cod dishes I've had, I don't think I'd recommend it but my hubby enjoyed the crab cakes very much. Friends had the flatbread (I didn't taste it) but they said was "pretty good". I thought our server was great! My hubby thought service was a bit slow (said food took a while) but I must've not been paying attention because it didn't seem that way to me.
